Cleve Lawson is a man for minding his business. But when he witnesses a stranger murdered by road agents, then the outlaws kill his best friend, Cleve decides it’s high time he stuck his nose in where it don’t belong. As if all that ain’t problems enough, he meets a tough yet beautiful woman who takes a shine to him – and a feller with fists of iron who takes unkindly to that. Throw in a murderous road agent gone loco, an unfaithful dog, a wise-cracking Sheriff, and a range war between sheep and cattle men, and Cleve’s got more troubles than an unarmed man in the middle of a gunfight.
Another action packed Western with a hint of romance, from the pen of J.V. James – and as usual, more twists and turns than you can shake a Winchester at.
Cleve was coming home on the stagecoach with Matt. They both were arguing about the sheep and cattle business. When all of a sudden road agents shot the guard and shot the driver Dim Dave in the shoulder. Dim Dave stopped the stage in the agents lined everybody up and Robbed them even took the bankers watch. Everyone lost their guns the passengers that is as the road agents have been tossed them out of the windows as the coach was moving. From there everything was downhill as the road agents were loading everybody back up in the stage that was the last one to be climbing in and they killed him. In the adventures kept going.
Another 5 STARS for a J.V. James book & it is a wonderful western! If you love the old west then this one is a great read with hardcore killers in the mix. An outlaw killer does crazy type kills in this one so be prepared!
Very similar story of what actually happened in the old west. A clash of cultures, greed, selfish ambition, a tad of romance. All the things that make a great western.
this delightful, hilarious, fast moving story. You’ll be gasping from the viciousness of the bad guys one minute and the next rolling on the floor laughing with this author’s unparalleled use of language. ENJOY!
Mean and destructive was Barton Pickney a midget. He loved to wield his power over the big ones. Nasty little man with greed for his name. Human trafficking, back robber. Cleve Lawson and Sheriff Whipple who did his best to keep the town safe. The bank owner was in Barron's pocket and so was Sheriff Whipple's nephew Vin, who was also the Deputy. Lots going on, a strong woman who defined how she would live her life with Cleve, because they married doesn't mean she give up her life. It's wordy, but you get beyond that it's a good 👍 western adventure.
Cleve Lawson believes in minding his own business. When the stage coach he is on gets set upon by road agents, he and Matt Roach are the only two to take a stand. Not that it help. Now Matt was a sheep man and Cleve solidly on the side of beef cattle. When the stage was robbed, everyone was allowed to get back on the stage, but when Matt Roach started to enter, he got shot in the head. No reason for it. The leader of the group was wearing high top boots and Cleve knew who they belonged to. These boots are designed to make a small man look bigger. They belonged to the richest rancher in town. Guess who is elected the president of the cattlemen association. First plan is to get rid of the sheep ranchers in Wolf Town. Those that disagree, had a short lifespan. Cleve knows which side he is on now. Matt Roaches brother is the leader of the sheep ranchers and needs to be warned.
Cleve is a rancher who finds himself embroiled in a war between cattlemen and sheep herders. The war is motivated by a greedy man and his banker cohort who are determined to take over the town and the whole area. Cleve becomes involved in the war when his friend is murdered by the criminals who are intent on destroyed sheep men and take over their community. He fell in love with Winnie who was part of Wolf Town and joined in his resistance from the criminals trying to destroy everything good. Cleve prevails against the villains marries Winnie.
This story is written as if it were narrated by an observer which I am learning is the style of J V James. It was an action packed story that describes the conflict between cattlemen and sheep men.
JVJ. has penned a western action adventure, titled "Wolf Town" which begins with a sheep man being murdered during a stage coach robbery. The other passengers knew it was a gun for hire murder because one of the robbers said to much. After the murder of the sheep man the cattlemen's associated decided to allow the Sheep ranchers into their association because one of the ranchers had proven the grass grew back thicker after the sheep grazed there. Then it became a battle of will between the members of the association and the two prominent bankers. This an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
This was a good read that gives you the option of cows or sheep as in the eyes of an established cattle country sheriff. All the action and adventure that you need.starts out a little creepy, but ends up okay.
Enjoyed reading this book. Lots of great characters and lots of action surrounding a corrupt system. Would recommend this book to everyone that enjoys a good western.
