Great story
This is a well written crime yarn that quickly takes you from a local PD incident to one with international implications. I enjoyed the detailed information concerning the inner workings of local law enforcement agencies and the wide-reaching consequences of one or two bad apples in a department. A well researched storyline is always appreciated and this one does not disappoint. My ONLY complaint is, I am NOT a fan of cliff hangers and each story is, including the final one of this 3-book set. That said, I can't deny I will look forward to additional books with the hope of a well thought out conclusion.

New Mystery Format for me
I can hardly put this boxed set of 1-3 down. This type of format, a continuing series starting and ending with one city and starting a new book with another city has been extraordinary and, to me, addictive. Now I need to go find 4-6 (hopefully a boxed set) to continue the saga. Can't wait.

Where Do We Go Now?
Life takes chunks from you all day. It takes a chunk of joy, a chunk of happiness and chunks of peace, contentment and even a chunk of fun. Do you get the chunks back or will they be gone forever? Jane Cole and Andrew Warren are at the ends of their traditional careers. Though they have no connection to each other they have found themselves thrust into a chilling scenario that takes their lives and turns them upside down. But as they try to keep up (it doesn't look like they'll ever catch up) they see just how far behind they are.

An odd book. (Trilogy? I don’t even know what to call these 3 books). I didn’t hate it; I didn’t love it. The 2 characters weren’t overly likable yet not offensive, either. The plot in each book kind of suddenly wrapped up but not really, and off to the next book you go. If I’m supposed to now look for books 4-6 it’s not happening...they just weren’t interesting enough for me.

I received an ARC of the books in this box set from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. I have loved Mr. Fuller's writing ever since I picked up his novella, The Cutline, which started the Alex Vane series. He has not ever disappointed me before and he hasn't with this new series. Written in the serialization mode of some of the great mysteries of the past, The Crime Beat covers the story of a world-wide assassination/conspiracy plot and the two people who are doing their best to prevent further murders and catch the people behind it. While each episode more or less brings its story to a close, preventing it from actually being a cliffhanger, it leaves the big picture unsolved and out of focus. It also leaves the reader chomping at the bit to get their hands on the next installment.
As always, Mr. Fuller's stories are full of action, suspense, and plenty of twists and turns. His dialogue feels natural and his characters are easy to relate to. Now, I have to admit, that that phase gives me pause even though I use if quite frequently and so do many other reviewers. What exactly does "his characters are easy to relate to" mean? I've never chased assassins all over the world, been shot at, tried to foil a terrorist plot, etc; so how could I relate to them? I have come to the conclusion that the phrase indicates characters who, outside of their current circumstances, are like people we know or resemble. They aren't necessarily super-heroes or such, but people who, in the course of their every day lives become involved with something outside the norm, and they step up to do what's right. The type of people most of us I think, deep down inside, hope we are. I can't think of a much higher compliment to pay an author.
If you haven't picked up the first three episodes of The Crime Beat, make sure you do. Or if you HATE having to wait for the next installment, hold off until they are all released and have a super binge party. However you decide to do it, make sure you read them. They are amazing!!!

Fast Read
Another great series by A. C. Fuller. I got the boxed set with Books 1 - 3 so I could read them all at once. Wow! Fast paced with lots of twists & turns. An unlikely partnership between a young journalist & a cop about to be fired due to her reporting. Travel with them from NYC to DC to Miami with a murder in each city. Next up: Books 4 - 6

Good quick read
Highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys police and reporter background insights. The main characters are a little over the top but it makes for a good read.
