THE DAWN OF REBELLION! Cable was a grizzled old veteran of the wars to save the future… and he will be again. But for now, he’s a young mutant living in paradise leading a life of adventure! Nathan Summers, son of two of the most powerful mutants on Krakoa, has a destiny leading the youth of mutantkind in rebellion… so why not start now? Gerry Duggan (MARAUDERS, DEADPOOL) and Phil Noto (STAR WARS, POE DAMERON) bring us young Cable as we’ve never seen him before!
I am pleasantly surprised. I would have loved it more if Cable had the sole task of dealing with monster Krakoa, but the story about the space knights is also cool. I would also love to read a story where the space knight is the main character. Old man Cable which is a good enough name for me chasing demons could also be a good way to make each issue about a different Cable, they share the name they can share the series. Armor looks much older here and very different I don't like it. Let's see where this goes.
This had the ingredients of being a great series, especially with Phil Noto on art duties. Even though at the surface it is a well written story and fits in quite nicely into the new X-Men Krakoa status quo, I have no love for teenaged Cable.
This being a Director's Cut edition, it included the complete script and all the pages in various stages of completion, from breakdowns, pencils, inks, and full color. It also included the variant covers.
What a waste of potential! Since I learn that a Cable new series was coming I was just waiting impatiently for it, and then it came! I was expecting something more mature, I miss the old Cable, but instead with get this teeny Cable with a more than teeny story. Totally disappointed and I won't go on with it!
There's a panel where he's holding a sword pointing it to the sky yelling I LOVE FUCKING SWORDS with a smile.. what the hell is this? Ash with Pokemon? What am I reading? Why am I reading?
It was bad. Young Cable is like another character. I like Duggan and I guess this is a first, but this is like reading Archie with superpowers.
I want the old, grumpy, serious Cable back.
I'm going to read the next ones as well in hopes that it gets better, so I'm not dropping right away. Also there was a nice final page that it may change things.
Reread #2 Review:
I'm going to be honest with you, I read this one back in January 2021 and I was so young and naive back then, and now that I'm wiser and older I reread and I liked it much better than the first time that I was quick to judge and dismiss it like a dumb nerd and bitch and complain about every little thing, especially Cable being young and different than the good old grumpy miserable Cable.
So, it definitely deserves much more than 1 star I stupidly gave the issue back then. I liked it, it was great and I have only myself to blame for not being fair.
So the thing is I've never been a fan of Cable or paid any particular attention to him. He has (for me) faded into the background and I couldn't care less if he didn't show up in any issue of X-Men. But this book made me LIKE Cable. That's how good it is. Hats off to Gerry Duggan!
Plus, Phil Noto's artwork is beautiful, clean, and a pleasure to look at.
I like this younger version of Cable. It's interesting to see how the super-serious old man was in his youth. Arrogant, a bit reckless, but very caring still. The art...eh, wasn't a big fan.
Cable #1 is pretty middling overall. I don’t like the young character design, or some of the very simple art in general, and it reads like YA fiction. May just not be for me.
I'm into it. I hadn't planned on buying this. I've never really thought that Cable needed his own book. That being said, this was a good set up for what the book will be about. Monster Island, Light of Galador (seems connected the this summers big sword event) old Cable doing something that young Cable needs to fix. I'm gonna see where it goes and hopefully it will continue to be fun to read.
This is infinitely better than any book about Cable has any right to be (but, you know, that's true of a surprising amount of Cable comics). The art by Phil Noto is, of course, stunning, and any book that includes both Pixie and Armor in its supporting cast is an automatic win. But...Spaceknights?! I didn't see that coming!
A reread, although I have the director's cut as a Marvel Insider reward. That being said, I knew this was fun, and Noto's artwork is just so, so beautiful: I haven't quite found the words for his mix of realism, expression (especially the characters expressing themselves via bodies and facial expression), and the watercolor feel so much of his work has.
I like Gerry Duggan - but am not a Cable fan. Noto is the only reason I'm going to keep reading this, although if the rumors I heard about the Cuckoos is true, that should be fun, too. I'm here for Noto, and just Noto, that's it.
I'm also bouncing around seeing if any titles in my Marvel Unlimited library displease me and chucking them if they do, or removing them when I'm finished. Except bouncing around and titles with shorter runs/only a couple issues available (Dark Ages) or easier reads like the Infinity comics that you scroll through and are only available for phone or tablets today. I'll go back to prose and finish at least Exit Strategy tomorrow.
Good start. I haven't vibed with new Cable to date he never felt like he had his own personality so hopefully this is a chance for him to develop a little.
I liked the fact it didn't take it's self too seriously as it worked in the manner they tried to take it (younger cable with you get crowd, a little tongue in cheek at times) but they will struggle with this set up if they then try to take Cable "darker" again.
Definitely a huge improvement on his horrible Fallen Angels portrayal, let's see where it goes. good start.
3.5 stars. I really like the story and this easily could have been a 4 ⭐️ book but there is no way I hell you’re going to make me believe a young teenage Cable can beat Wolverine with 100 plus years of experience in single combat. Nope!
But the rest of this was very interesting. From the other part of Krakoa with that Loin monster, the sword they find and the history behind it that is now coming back, down to the story tied to the last page reveal. Definitely want to read what happens next.
Well this is new. All right start to a new Cable tale. Definitely could be better. Not sure if the teenage angst is supposed to feel so campy or that’s just how I’m taking it. I like that Cable is establishing himself different from his older self. I have so many questions. Mainly about his powers and how he got de-aged. Also if there are resurrection Protocols why does he still have a metal arm? Also is the TO virus gone?
Ok, so young Cable is kinda dumb, but kinda fun. He just... has nothing to do with Cable. He's basically a different, new character, just another young confident stupid kid X-Man. I was along for the ride, enjoying it well enough. The ROM reference really threw me, that's a deep fuckin' cut. Then, in the last page of the book, I was given a tiny taste of old man Cable, and it just reminded me of what I was missing. Sigh.
Good start to a comic. It feels a bit like a slice of life book for a place where the day to day is filled with people that have super powers. I know the gist of how we got to teen Cable but I'm not going to attempt to unravel the nonsensical clusterfuck that got us to here. I'm just going to ride with it.
I thought I'd hate this. How am I supposed to get on board with this new young Cable but the art was rad and the ending filled me with hope to see more OG Cable. I really enjoyed the old skool Sci-fi robot origin story. Keen to see more about Morn!
A nice new feel in the world of X comics coming out at the moment!

I wasn't sure I would dig the young Nathan Dayspring. I really enjoyed his friendships with Pixie and Armor. We even get some Spaceknight action. I really have loved the setting of Krakoa.
I guess I forgot to review this... like 3 years ago haha. Anways, I love cable, one of my favorite mutants. I liked this Krakoa story with the swords and stuff, I am a simple man. Worth a look just for Phil Noto artwork, look at all those pretty people, come on.
