“Maybe ‘what was your first clue?’ could be our ‘always’. ”

Book: Texting Him
Author: Sage Reed
Genre: Romance, Humour
My Rating: 4.75/5

Brief Summary:
The story starts with Parker, trying to contact a friend but reaching a wrong number instead, who turns out to be Sloane. Does he simply apologize and she says “okay” and that’s it? Oh no, expect the unexpected here. What ensues between our grumpy cute guy and sunshine gorgeous girl, is a turn of hilarious, sarcastic, ‘Aww I want to marry Parker and make Sloane my best friend’ thought-inducing and sometimes emotional series of texts. But unbeknownst to even himself, Parker draws closer to this girl whose texts somehow bring a smile to his face and Sloane finds herself blushing whenever her phone lets out the familiar ping. The heart can’t help it after all…

Review/What I felt about the story:
‘Texting Him’ is a dialogue story, i.e., told through a text format for the most part with description introduced at a few points. I love a well-done dialogue story, and this is most definitely well done. The conversations, the texts, and calls at any point seem completely natural and never riddled with an information overload, which is something that I loved about this book. Similarly, the plot flows smoothly and no component feels forced.

Their witty, sarcastic exchanges, Sloane’s dramatic declarations of love (babe!), Parker’s annoyance, and Vincent; just being Vincent, made me giggle throughout. But the emotional confessions, their tragic past, thoughts riddled with insecurities, and the way they consoled each other made me sob like a baby. In short, I could feel every damn thing the characters felt; be it pain, joy, love…even jealousy ;)

‘‘How do you have friends?”
“I honestly don’t know. I pay most of them hourly, if that’s what you mean.”

There’s just something so beautiful about experiencing two people falling for each other, for their personality, their minds, through their screens. What makes me incredibly happy that Parker and Sloane bring the best out in each other, they support each other through progress and that healthy encouragement is what I strive for.

“He would do anything for her, the same way she would do anything for him.”

“Hearing those words roll off her tongue so smoothly was like music to him, a gentle reminder of how much this girl had changed him through the several months they’d spoken.”

The author has done a wonderful job, expressing what goes on in the mind of a teenager, addressing trauma and promoting the idea of talking about it, tastefully describing feelings; situations, and making me fall in love with Parker and Sloane (and Vincent; Sorry Andy, I am stealing him.) The closing of the story is just perfect! Gives us room to comprehend how the author visualizes them together and also is open enough for us to imagine them, however we’d like, in the future. I would love to read a book on the other characters mentioned briefly in the story, they have so much to tell us!

Recommendation:
I would like to conclude with a recommendation for everyone to read ‘Texting Him’ and if you are into dialogue books, love laughing while reading (and people immediately staring at you after that), going deep into thought after reading beguiling poetic lines, truckloads of sarcasm, have space for a few more book boyfriends and simply adore the ever-loving marshmallows out of the grumpy-sunshine trope, my friends, this book is cent percent for you.
I am still waiting for my wrong number soulmate but I am happy to read about Sloane and Parker again and again until he arrives!

Brief summary: Parker needs to borrow a car, so he texts his friend... or so he thinks. It turns out, he accidentally texted the wrong number - more specifically, Sloane Mathew's number. He makes it very clear that he doesn't want to speak with her anymore after he realizes his mistake, but she won't allow it. She has fun annoying the grumpy boy, so she regularly texts him for kicks. The texts turn into phone calls that turn into meet ups. What started off as a wrong number turned into so much more.

Dislikes:

There was no epilogue. I was so invested in the MCs and their relationship together, so I was really hoping we'd get a glimpse into their future at the end. We didn't get that, but I can't complain too much because the ending was still really cute.

Likes:

The MCs and how their personalities complimented each other's. Sloane was sarcastic, hilarious and kind. Half the time the things she said/wrote made no sense, yet I lover her more for it. She may not have been completely perfect, (ex: she had insecurities and stuff) but she was perfect to me. She is by far one of the most lovable heroines I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Parker was the moody bad boy with a heart of gold under the façade. He was also sarcastic and funny. They were so different, yet so perfect for each other at the same time.

Their witty banter was absolutely hilarious and had me smiling at every turn.
Parker: It was the wrong fucking number!
Sloane: If it was so wrong, why doth it feel like true love.
Parker: Don't even fucking say shit like that.

The format was unique. The majority is in texting/calling format, which makes the story quick and easy to read.

There was a good mix of humor and seriousness. There were dark elements, like the death of a parent, to give the characters more depth. If the story had solely been about humor without any serious topics, it wouldn't have been as captivating (at least not to me). The author did a great job of mixing the elements together to create a lovely story about love and loss.

The way their relationship developed. In the beginning, Parker was annoyed by Sloane's texts, but that soon changes. The more they speak, the more their feelings for each other grow. It was adorable to watch him go from aggressive texting & insults to this:
Parker: "Did someone hurt you today?"
Sloane: "No."
"I swear to fucking god if they did. They're gonna be fucked up."
"Aw, you do care about me."
"Maybe just a little."

Overall, I'm really glad I decided to read this book. I love dialogue stories and the fact that it included the grumpy-sunshine trope made it even better. I'd be interested on a book on Bea in the future. It was stated that her heart was broken and I'm a sucker for second-chance romances, so I would eat that right up. I haven't even looked into whether or not the author wrote a book about her yet, but if she did, I'll be checking it out soon. Based on the little we saw of Bea, she's loving, loyal and full of sass. I'd love to see more of her character, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed she has/is getting a book :)

Text Messages/Phone Calls

(WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD. READERS HAVE BEEN ADVISED)

Rate: 09/10

Texting Him was honestly one of the cutest and fun reads. I was always into the whole messaging dialogue or phone calls, they excited me, kept the mystery of if they are ever going to figure out that they go to the same school & have been passing each other in the halls this whole time.

Sloane was a quirky, mildly aggressive (in a funny/cute way) girl who was full of happiness. She was everything Parker needed in his life. She brought meaning to his life even after he had given up on both himself and his future.

Parker was the black sheep. He was set in a path that wasn’t for him. After the death of his sister he was given all these responsibilities he was no way prepared for. He had thought for most of his life that he was just going to be on the sidelines and be able to do his own things.

It’s crazy how one message can change everything. Parker had put in the wrong number and texted Sloane who was quick to respond & start with her funny messages.

I loved this book so much. It had soulmates, friendships, it was comedic, and an amazing storyline.

I cannot wait to read Vince’s book and the others. So excited. Sage Reed thank you for asking me to review this book, you are honestly the best and Parker has officially become my fictional boyfriend. He was added to the list the minute I finished the book. Loved every moment of it.

Love this book!

Ive already read the Wattpad/Inkitt version of the book. I instantly fell in love. the concept was new for me, especially for something I had come across on Wattpad.

Its a cute, short, fast-burn romance I would say.

*once I read the paperback version I will complete my review.

The story was extremely cute, and the author did a really good job of executing the plot in a way that kept the reader hooked; which, in my opinion, is very hard to do in a dialogue story. It did get very fast-paced towards the end, but the characters were so intriguing that I still felt absorbed into the storyline. Well played.

Review:

"You know my kink is....kindness.

I'll keep that in mind."

I read this book in Inkitt last year and absolutely loved it. When I found out that it was getting published, I was really excited to read it. I was very kindly provided an advanced e-book of it by the author and I had a blast reading it. I got through it in a single day and loved it as much as I expected.

This book follows a series of text messages between Sloane and Parker. Parker accidentally texts the wrong number, which ends up being Sloane's and then they start talking and strike up an unexpected friendship.

The plot of this book is non-existent because it's just a journey of two people talking over the course of a year and developing an unexpected connection.

I really liked the characters of this book, despite them being pretty 2-dimensional. The focus was more on their relationship rather than their individual selves. Their relationship was great but I wish their individuality was given more spotlight. One thing I really appreciated was that despite it being 90% in text form, the side characters had a significant presence. In"Dear Aaron" by Maraina Zapata, my biggest complaint was that despite it being in letter format (having much more detailed conversations) and most of the book being about their one-on-one interactions, there was a notable absence of any significant side characters. I was afraid the same would happen here but thankfully, it didn't.

There isn't much to say about the writing style of this book simply because there isn't much room to experiment when the most part of the story is in text form. I do wish that the traumas of the characters were discussed a little more deeply because as it was, it felt like they were brushed away without any real consideration. I've read "His Nepenthe" by the author which talked about mental health in great detail so I know the writer can write about it well, I just wish it was talked about here too.

All in all, this book was really cute and sweet and I had fun reading it. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something light and fun to enjoy your time with.

Original Thoughts: This was such a sweet, cute and generally feel good book. I finished it in a matter of a few hours and I loved every moment of reading it. The romance is so fluffy and wholesome and I just can't establish how cute these two r together! Just go read this one, u won't regret it!!
