Mikami’s middle age hasn’t gone as he planned: He never found a girlfriend, he got stuck in a dead-end job, and he was abruptly stabbed to death in the street at 37. So when he wakes up in a new world straight out of a fantasy RPG, he’s disappointed but not exactly surprised to find that he’s facing down a dragon, not as a knight or a wizard but as a blind slime demon. But there are chances for even a slime to become a hero…
And with this, Rimuru has successfully (I think) fulfilled Shizu's final wish, and helped save the children! I'm interested to see what comes next, and whether they hold a big part in the rest of the story to come...
Chapter notes below for personal reference: (potentially spoiler heavy)
A quest of spirits to save the next generation of potential heroes.
With the task of trying to save the children entrusted to him by izu, Rimuru has been looking for ways to achieve his goal and after some consulting (and much cream puff devouring) Rimuru needs to discover the location of a place said to have an entrance that can move at the will of their queen so he is not out of hot water yet. However if nothing else Rimuru has the courage and blind luck of an anime protagonist as connections formed in the past help speed up the process and we get to see some silly things mixed with action scenes (though admittedly Rimuru has basically become more powerful then some of the more mundane challenges for now so the action is super limited.) However like in other volumes this book is also about building up allies as he continues to establish a monster society that humans can interact with without fear. With the introduction of the great and powerful fairy demon lord Ramiris I find myself hoping she will come visit Tempest more, Maybe catch up with Treyni, and visit some more hyper fun to balance out Milim's more dangerous levels of fun. :)
Of course after reading this volume be sure to read Veldora's latest journal entries as he recaps the volume from a view with knowledge our protagonist is not necessarily privy to as well as banter between Veldora and Ifrit then you still have some quick comics explaining the series like how voice actors do their thing and story time for the kids.
Ok, the saving-the-children arc is drawing to a close, great. It felt like it was kind of a snap-of-the-fingers sort of thing. Could be why I didn't like it. But it was probably needed as it brought Rimuru into contact with Ramiris as well as a strange spiritual entity (who most likely will be some arc in the future). Ramiris is as funny as she was in the anime so that's great. And there's a bit more of Beretta's origins than the anime, where it was slightly confusing when her origins got revealed in the anime. Another bit that completely confusing in the manga was the human merchant that would be playing a big role in helping out tempest. There was much more backstory and integration here than the anime, where he mostly just seemingly appeared very conveniently.
This part of Rimuru’s life is basically done. I was expecting more of it but I’m this book he does everything he was meant to. I am quite excited to see what’s going to happen to shizu’s kids, if they are going to have any influence in the story. Plus we met another demon lord and I must say, I did not expect that to be a demon lord.
What a great development of the series, its built brilliantly and loved every minute of it and cant wait for the next volume, which I havent got yet so might be a little while.
The diary of veldora is amazing and makes the series so much better and unique.
This one was a bit too much Veldora's Observation Diary and not enough Rimuru. Tbh if I didn't watch the anime I wouldn't have known what was happening in the fairy place because it wrapped up so fast it could give a reader whiplash.
Rimuru meets Ramiris, my favorite new character from this book! Next to Veldora, a really funny self absorbed character! Plus the children continue their quest to.... not die. Very entertaining volume.
I like the queen of spirits she is hilarious. It is nice seeing Rimuru taking care of Shizu's final wishes. I almost hope that he takes the kids to Tempest they would as they grow up make fine allies.
Basically it was fun to see new entities (the spirits) but at this point I don't care about Shizu's students very much. The way to the queen felt too easy too.
So... apparently humans summoned from our world aren't able to regulate their magicules and will die an early death unless they can find a way to stabilize them. Shizue did this by fusing with Ifrit, the fire elemental. Therefore, logic dictates that in order to save the five kids, we need to find spirits to fuse with them... but where do we find them?
This...gets resolved very quickly in only half the volume. A nice little plot bridge appeared so we could find the place, then Rimuru OP'd his way into getting the rest of the job done, practically stampeding over a demon lord in the process. I will say though, this volume left me with more questions than answers. What was up with that lady and why did she kiss Rimuru?
