The Gatekeeper's Curse #1-3

The Gatekeeper's Curse: The Complete Trilogy

Rate this book
Ilsa Lynn has made it her life's goal to avoid the curse that binds her family to serve the Summer Court of Faerie. With her magically talented twin sister given the role of Gatekeeper, Ilsa is content to hide under the radar amongst the regular humans.

At least until a mysterious spell book falls into her possession, granting Ilsa with a sudden and inconvenient affinity with the dead, and dangerous magic that paints a neon target on her head. With her family's questionable past quite literally refusing to stay buried, the last thing Ilsa needs is an untrustworthy self-proclaimed faerie bodyguard, even if he does come with a deadly skillset of his own.

Dealing with zombies and fae assassins would be difficult enough on its own, but now someone's out to frame her for murder, too. While dodging enemies at every corner, Ilsa must get a handle on her new powers before the armies of Faerie invade Earth. She might just be in over her head…

This bundle contains the complete Gatekeeper's Curse trilogy: Hereditary Magic, Hereditary Curse, and Hereditary Power.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

3.5*

First time read the author's work?: No

Will you be reading more?: Yes

Would you recommend?: Yes

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

hard to read

I started this book and had to re read the first chapter as there is no introduction. No intro or descriptions of the characters or world building it just jumps in and continues like that with little in terms of descriptions and lots in terms of jumping all over the place

Solid 4.5 star
Book 1 Heredity Magic:
Ilsa Lynns family is cursed to always be a Gatekeeper for the Summer and Winter courts, Her Mum for the summer court and her Aunt Agnes for the winter. As much as Ilsa tries to lead a normal life she gets a message that she has to help find the heir, to what she has no idea but supposedly its really important she does. Things just go down hill from there as she returns to her family home she doesn't like to be in, her Mum is no where to be found and her twin sister now has a bodyguard. You really don't know who to trust, who is trying to kill who nor what the book Ilsa now has that only shows her blank pages most of the time unless she really needs it.

Book 2 Hereditary Curse:
I really do feel like Ilsa can't catch a break but she does deal with bad things happening pretty well!
With Morgan her brother turning up after leaving 8 years prior it just adds to the drama going on in Ilsa's life which also includes the necromancers bringing her in after using her magic little book. You really don't know who to trust including family and Ilsa has to work out not only what is going on in town as well as the necromancers while not letting her secret out and others dying. Can she handle all of this as well as being by River when Lady Montgomery is calling the shots on her training and watching her.... bring on book 3!

Book 3 Hereditary Power:
This book picks up straight after the end of book 2 so there is no breather for Isla and the others as they now face a new threat of the Summer Magic draining along with having to find their Mum. There is just so much packed into this book and it flows and links so well that you never know what will happen next nor just how everything links together until the end. There were some great and scary surprises and twists that pop out of no where. So much more is revealed about the Faerie history and they really are nasty folk! To top it all off we get to see Isla, Hazel and Morgan grow together as a family as well as see where things go with Isla and River.

Book one. Plot 3, narration 5 stars. Ilsa’s crush on River annoys the hell out of me.
Book two. Plot 3, narration 5 stars. Ilsa is still annoying, but her brother is even more so.
Book three. Plot 3, narration 5 stars. Never got to like any of the Lynn’s but the plot was interesting enough to keep me going, although, the narrator was the only reason at times, such diversity in voices and accents, very lovely to listen to.

A family's destinies....

Ilsa Lynn is a twin to the Summer Gatekeeper's heir, who is her sister Hazel. Though Ilsa and their brother Morgan have other powers. Ilsa is the Gatekeeper of the Spirit and Death Realms. Come follow their journeys into their destinies and what they will do to protect both innocents and ones they love.

Great Series

I loved this series!!! It follows the story basis of The Changeling Chronicles bring back the faerie killer Ivy. I loved the twists to each character and to the plots. I enjoyed this series very much and plan to get the Hazel trilogy to see how her story plays out.

Another great trilogy

This was another excellent compilation by the author. She definitely h as a wealth of knowledge regarding all of the fae realms and an amazing ability of keeping the straight in her stories. I had to re-read sections several times to keep up with her.
