A level 1 adventure for DCC RPG – specially themed for Halloween horror!
The perfect October release! A raging storm has made the waters around Devil’s Reef impossible to navigate safely. The noble galleon, The Royal Dawn, has run aground and Princess Kaeko from faraway Fu-Lamia is now missing! Untold riches and glory await those who successfully find the princess and safely deliver her to Black Sand Port. As the greedy and ambitious adventurers set out to find the princess, their thoughts linger on the few Royal Dawn survivors that washed up on the beach with bodies that were corrupted by strange frog-like mutations. What kind of evil awaits the adventurers on that forbidden island?
A Halloween DCC RPG module originally, now rebranded as part of the "DCC Horror" line, this module is Lovecraftian awesomeness at its finest. A ship carrying a royal wedding party shipwrecks on Devil's Reef, and the party needs to try to rescue the bride - but there are strange Lovecraftian horrors, including the possible degeneration of the PCs into Deep One hybrids, and some really deadly foes. This one seems likely to rack up a big body count, but there is the possibility of replacing lost PCs with rescued sailors from the shipwrecked vessel. My only wish is that we could learn more about the mysterious land of Fu-Lamia from which the wedding party hails - it would make a nifty campaign capsule like the "Sunken Land of Ru" included in later printings of "The Sea-Queen Escapes" or "The Forlorn North" included in later printings of "Frozen In Time." Hopefully author Jon Hook will revisit Fu-Lamia in the future (he mentioned in a Facebook comment that he'd like to do so, someday!)
I might be biased as I was a playtester for this adventure. I enjoy the Cthulhu mythos in my D&D/DCC and I think Jon has brought his deep CoC knowledge into crafting a truly unique alien-horror adventure for DCC. There's a reason it kicked off the "DCC Horror" line... it is not "fair" and it might be even more deadly than most adventures in a game that has a reputation for being deadly. But if you want some cosmic Lovecraftian horror in your DCC game, give it a shot.
I'm going to run for some upcoming cons, and it's at least 2 sessions of material... I believe that the last 1-2 sections will make for a solid 4 hour convention game session.
