Lol, I'm just so happy, I can't stop smiling. Finally, the Asaya and Ken ship has sailed!! I've been waiting for this development for like the start. I dunno but their relationship progress has a deep impact on me more than the main characters' progress. I think it was the angst from the very beginning that hooked me to root for them. And the way Masahiro acts as Ken's father is so cute!

Masahiro and Kousuke's relationship is going in circles though. THEY NEED TO COMMUNICATE OPENLY LOL. They're at it again, keeping secrets that leads to misunderstanding. It's so tiresome. They never learn, it's so frustrating that I don't even want to care anymore. Nothing can wipe this smile on my face, okay! I'm just happy for Asaya because he deserves it. Their situation is just too funny, a languid guy and a happy-go-lucky, innocent-looking boy: where could they possibly go? Anyway, yeah, that's all.

3/5 ⭐️ - 2nd read (2022)

I had paused at this volume for quite a few months and needed to do a re-read to continue with volumes 8-11. As well as I want to be ready for the volume 12 release next month! With this re-read, I did catch a bit more, just as in volume 6, and I am starting to distinguish the characters with more ease; however, there are still a lot of issues with this manga that need to be addressed. Which I do not believe they are ever addressed after talking to other people who have read this series.

This series isn't necessarily bad but there is just too much going on within the volumes and nothing is really getting accomplished. The plot still is so confusing and we are given very little of that in this volume. We do have that suspense of another teacher becoming suspicious but that it is. The main plot lasts for 5 pages or so. Then we are thrown into the passed multiple times and as I said the last time I read this volume, there are page fillers from moments in the last 6 volumes which are unnecessary. All these fillers are taking away from the story that is being told.

Also, I don't get why we are focusing so much on the Hitorijime Boyfriend storyline when technically this should be focused on Masahiro and Kousuke. The author has now released the spin-off series that this series is based on so I am hoping to see less of that storyline and more of the actual main plot in future volumes.

I still don't see the packed panels going away any time soon. Even though it seems to lighten up in some places now. I shouldn't be getting a headache when reading manga. The panels are chaos and have been since the beginning.

3/5 ⭐️ - 1st read (2021)

This was a cute, light, fluffy read that definitely brings a smile to the face and that's about it.

I was really disappointed. I was hoping we would have had more plot with this volume but there were a few pages that followed the main plot and then the rest of the volume was all over the place/deviated from the plot. Now usually this wouldn't bother me but this volume jumped to different moments throughout the manga series/filled gaps to different volumes within My Hero, jumped to different points in time, and jumped to 5 different POVs... it was just too much.

I feel like this was a filler volume and it acted like a filler volume.

There is still the issue of too many dialogue bubbles crowding into one panel and the reader not actually knowing who is talking. After 7 volumes, I don't expect this to get any better as it seems to be getting worse. Also, sometimes the panels themselves are chaotic and there is way too much going on at once. If that's the case, maybe have the manga slightly longer so that things can fit more neatly and not have this chaotic mess.

I am hoping the next volume focuses more on our couple Kousuke and Masahiro because this volume really didn't. I also hope that we get to see more of the plot, especially after a few scenes in this volume that could spell disaster for Masahiro and Kousuke.

The plot is getting really interesting but they're padding the books with extras and .5 chapters and hitorijimi my boyfriend chapters as flashbacks. This one only had i think 3 chapters of the main plot.

I still enjoyed the cuteness of the characters but this volume jumped around so much it was hard to keep track of what was going on.

I did enjoy it though, just not as much as some of the others.

This volume is kind of scattered again, but does it better. I think it helps that two of the Hitorijime Boyfriend chapters are actually ones that were written and published earlier - but collected into book form for the first time here. I say that because...I feel like the quality of the story is degrading a little over time, but we'll see. There are a whole lot of volumes left to go.

These chapters include the backstory of Ken and Hasekura first getting to know each other when they were very little. This was the mountain excursion that was wrapped into the anime, to help emotionally drive the plotline of them first getting together. It works here because the two of them are going through a rough patch in their relationship and trying to revisit why they got together in the first place and if they're both actually in love. Or if Hasekura's in romantic love and Ken is still just into the friendship side of things.

They've made some progress, although I do still find their relationship flimsier. Some of it feels forced; I'm not entirely convinced that Ken is gay, or particularly sexual at all. Like he's said before, he's just not all that interested in it. But he does take some steps on his own in this volume, and I liked that Hasekura really is growing as a character.

He's getting less selfish, developing real restraint, and actually thinking about what Ken wants. Despite his annoyance and jealousy, it's probably helped to have Kousuke and Setagawa as an example of what a balanced, affectionate, two-sided, and fully consensual relationship looks like. If he wants that kind of relationship with Ken, he has to communicate with him and treat him better. And he has friends now, too, which similarly annoys him, but helps to dilute some of that lonely desperation that made him cling so hard to Ken as his only outlet.

There are also two chapters from Shige's point of view, which I liked, even though I'm not a fan of how much authors love to throw their mains into "hehe what if they kissed other people" scenarios. It's part of why I prefer shorter series with firm conclusions, because once it goes on for too long, it starts to feel like the authors get a little bored and want to play around more, and I just...am not here for that.

But in this case, it was just a "nightmare" where Shige woke up sweating and isn't actually interested in Setagawa like that. Probably. He just really admires and relies on Setagawa and hates that Kousuke takes him away from the rest of their fun group an increasing amount of time as the two of them get more and more serious.

Ken compares it to when your mom gets remarried to some new guy, and that...actually makes a lot of sense, considering Shige's home life. I wish we got more of him actually taking to Setagawa the way he wants to, because he's struggling with being his mom's confidante about his dad's cheating, and like Setagawa with all his family and Kousuke stuff, he needs an outlet for venting and advice. Setagawa is serious and kind and a good listener, and while he can't fix something that complicated, it helps a lot to have someone to talk to.

The other bonus story about Setagawa being the group's "dad" was funnier and more on theme. Having him drive away the actual Ohshiba dad (whom none of them recognized) was a bit ridiculous but humorous, and Setagawa really has settled into that role in their friend group.

The whole Ohshiba dad thing is kind of strange - I know that in Japan it's pretty common for men to travel a lot for work, but it seems heavily exaggerated here, with Ken seeing him so infrequently he doesn't even recognize his own father. Hopefully they go into that more. And I'd like to see the rest of the story actually start to move along again.

The main plotlines with Kousuke and Setagawa now are Setagawa being proactive about finding them an apartment, and Kousuke's coworker confronting him about the affair she thinks he's having with a married woman (Ayaka).

Volume 7 finds itself making strides towards developing both major relationships and providing insight into how their closet friends and colleagues view their relationships. I found the Hitorijime my Boyfriend chapters to provide good context behind the young masters awe at Kensuke and how this awe blossomed into romance. While Kensuke's feelings blossomed into romance have yet to be clarified further than they were in the previous volume, we do see that he does have desires to take the relationship with the young master to the same depths that his older brother and Masahiro.

Masahiro and Kousuke's relationship didnt really advance as far as I would have liked this volume especially in the context of how much they advanced it in previous volumes. Indeed, Masahiro still finds himself doubting Kousuke's feelings even after he's been given a ring and even after they discussed plans to move out of Kousuke's parent's house and into their own apartment and even after all their make out sessions in various hotels and what not...oh well, cant end the series here.

The other compelling part of the volume was the realization that Masahiro's friends realize that Fukushige potentially has feelings for Masahiro, which considering this is my ship, I was glad to see and I was glad to see that this was explored in Hitorijime My Best Friend chapters. I do hope more is explored in this in the future, as I think he and Masahiro are perfect, and also would be accepted by probably everyone in the volume and everyone reading rather than the questionably in terms of optics with the Masahiro and Kousuke relationship. Cheering Fukushige on and perhaps someday he will reveal such feelings to Masahiro.

Overall a fun volume, and hope all couples are explored more in the future.

This is the first volume to not get at least a 4 star rating from me because the stories were so all over the place that it kept throwing me off. This isn't to say that I didn't enjoy each of the individual stories themselves, its just that their placement made no sense. Chapter 31 was a continuation of Hasekura and Kensuke's story from book 6 so that made sense. Chapters 32 and 33 was a continuation of Masahiro and Kousuke's story. But in between those two chapters were two random stories that, quite honestly, didn't fit well with the main story. And the way they ended chapter 32 was criminal! Thank God I had book 8 already or I would've be pissed!

The two Hitorijime My Boyfriend chapters, though cute, really just felt like filler. I enjoyed the two Hitorijime My Friend chapters, and the two bonus stories at the end were funny. I'm a little slow.. does Shige really have romantic feeling for Masahiro or is he just confused? That dream that he had about Masahiro was...wow. What if Masahiro really did kiss him to make him feel better? I know he'd never do that but just imagine it! 😂😂 Kousuke would lose it!

Have I said how much I love the cover art and the bonus color art in the beginning. This is truly a beautiful manga and has to be seen in person to appreciate it. Also flippin Masahiro is so KAWAII!! They call him dad all the time lol but I think he is more like a wife.

Im liking these last couple of volumes a little more they have been super funny. Omg the raw egg joke I about fell out my chair and Ken messing up Kous love life hahaha. The flow was a little better in the volume but still it's my only problem with this series.

I'm not that interested in Hasekura and Kensuke's relationship, so while it was nice to see how they met, it's also something I wasn't invested in. We only get a glimpse of our main couple, and maybe that's why there wasn't as much drama in this volume which I'm grateful for. It is also nice to see Kensuke and Hasekura grow a bit as characters.

We get a couple of chapters centered around Shigeo! I didn't know I wanted these until I got them and I'm down to read more in the future.

Getting back to this series felt like coming home—volume 7 was all I could've asked for! Alongside the main story, there were two new chapters of Hitorijime Boyfriend—a welcome addition to the original, a few chapters focused on Shige, and there were some adorable extras as well. Masahiro and Kousuke’s relationship is as sweet as ever—it’s made me tear up so many times I’ve lost count. Their love gives me such warm, fuzzy feelings, though I admit I sometimes get a little jealous!

The egg misconception scene was hilarious, and Masahiro as the “delinquent dad” absolutely made my day. He’s just so cute!!! The writing feels like it’s getting better and better as the series progresses. While the translation had its quirks early on, it’s easy to overlook now. Plus, I adore the slice-of-life, boys’ love, and high school vibes—it’s like this series was made for me.

I always recommend Hitorijime My Hero to BL fans. It’s a beautiful story of Masahiro’s personal growth and him finding himself in high school while also discovering a strong, everlasting love with Kousuke. Yes, the age thing had me questioning some aspects at first, but it’s fiction, and at this point, I can’t imagine them not being together—they’re made for each other. જ⁀➴ ♡

I’m so glad we are getting more little side stories with our background characters we see so frequently. I would love to see more of the characters as the story continues. Plus the other teacher hinted at a scandal and now I need to know what’s going on asap. Can’t wait to get my hands on the next couple volumes.

I had such a difficult time following around all the skips and people jumps. This was confusing. This is the Japanese Mange set in high school with a teacher dating a student.

This book has a whole host of other characters in the story. I don't feel like our main characters had much screen time.

I keep hoping the kid will graduate and this might get better. I have little else to say.

Alright, so I did enjoy this one. However, I do agree with some of the other reviewers that it was a little all over the place with POV and time. Also, does Shige have a crush?? That’s adorable, everything would make sense! Also the end with their dad showing up and being scared off by Masahiro was great!

Still cute tho! And i really enjoy the art style
