An aloof, brooding and injured Navy SEAL, a feisty biker-chick harbouring her own secrets and hurts, an arranged marriage, a bit of suspense, some steamy sex and a gaggle of friends bringing humour to their strange situation and what’s not to enjoy.

**ARC received in exchange of an honest review**

I read only 85% of it. Rest I couldn't get through. Whatever I read I give it **2.5 stars**

The story of a girl who has lost everything and the guy who don't believe in love and getting help from anyone.
The story started really well but then all the characters started to behave weirdly. They were attracted to each other but decided not to open up. They had a public humiliation where the guy lost his temper.
The girl almost died during a survival and rescue plan of which her husband don't know a thing about. Also she left the house at 2 a.m. after being intimate with the husband for the first time only to return after 18 hours and that too with bandages and all the lies up her sleeves.

Everything was wierd and it couldn't seem to get better as well.

Issued, the first book in the Navy Seals of Little Creek series, tells the story of an injured and broken military man and the smart spitfire who captures his heart. The main characters participate in a military-led spouse matching program. Taya joins the program after her best-friend killed her father and burned down her home. Determined to start over, and looking for a safe place, Taya believes the spouse matching program is the perfect opportunity.

Jim’s boss forces him to join the program. With no other options, Jim agrees but refuses to stay in the marriage any longer than the mandatory year. However, can they resist their undeniable attraction? And will their secrets from the past eventually catch up to them?

Taya and Jim are quite different from each other, and it’s interesting to see how these two learn to admire and trust each other. Polar opposites, Taya is bubbly, outspoken, and dynamic, while Jim is reserved, controlled, and abrupt. Jim’s frustration is clear in his interactions with others. He likes to be in control, and his injuries and the circumstances that follow, as well as his feelings for Taya, shatter the control he clings to. Taya’s somewhat chaotic life and personality clash with Jim’s reserved personality, an it is interesting to see their arranged marriage develop and grow.

Taya and Tim’s chemistry is irrefutable. Though they are different, they compliment each other well and bring out each other’s strengths. I love that they support and respect each other. Though they both make mistakes that cause conflict within the relationship, they resolve them quickly and handle these issues in a way that shows their growing feelings.

Issued is a quick and interesting contemporary romance with an interesting story and well-developed characters. Plus, the romance is steamy!! Thanks so much to the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

A wild but entertaining idea of an arranged marriage. Just complex enough to be fun but a quick read. I loved the character back stories, they weren’t just nonexistent fluff... even if it was still operating under outrageous romance book rules. There was some weight to our lead characters. And I always enjoy when there are a variety of settings, which the other provided. They weren’t just confined to a house or bedroom.

But the segues were choppy and I felt like entire moments were missed. And the secondary character relationships seemed to happen off the page. Just some great missed opportunities. So in the end it was a 3 Star read for me. Entertaining but not spectacular.

I was so excited when Paris asked me to read her latest book! I’ve read a lot of contemporary romance but I haven’t ventured into the military end of it much, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from Issued. I know almost next to nothing about Navy SEALs. I even had to double check to be sure I put SEAL in all caps just now. I know… you all are probably shaking your heads at me. What I did know is that I love Paris’ writing, brooding heroes, girls with an attitude (and she's Mongolian!), and any sort of trope that’s a fake or arranged relationship that turns into love is good in my book!

I was not disappointed. This was such a great read!

One of the first things I noticed was while Jim and Taya may not have gotten along right away, it wasn’t exactly hate to love. Instead, it was about them gradually getting to know one another, overcoming their differences, and learning to build each other into their lives. The attraction was immediate, but I loved watching them fall in love as they got to know one another naturally.

Another element I love about Paris’ writing is that even in romance, she’s not afraid to dig deep and give her characters deep and dark wounds. There is some heavy stuff to deal with in this book, and it was done in such a great way where it honored and didn’t shy away from those wounds. But at the same time, you still had the classic contemporary romance feel where you could escape for a little while and be reminded that no matter how dark our world and pasts can get, you can still have a happily ever after.

Then on top of all of that - you have elements of an action packed action book where you want to know more about what’s going on and wonder how the characters are going to get out of the situations they’ve found themselves in. There are a few nail biting moments in there!

Of course… if you couldn’t tell from the cover… it is SEXY SEXY SEXY! ::fans self:: If you like some intense sex scenes that’ll have you blasting your AC to cool down - this is for you!

Some content warnings: there is some intense backstory about war, fires, murder, and if you aren’t feeling pro-military/pro-police books right now, this might not be up your alley.

Overall, Issued is a fast, sexy, and intense contemporary romance that will have you on the edge of your seat while swooning at the same time, reminding you how even after darkness you can still have a happily ever after.

Issued, the first book in the Navy Seals of Little Creek series, tells the story of Jim, an injured SEAL, and Taya, the woman who captures his heart. The main characters participate in a spouse-matching program made up by the Seals themselves. Taya joins the program after her best friend killed her father and burned down her home. Taya was determined to start over and started looking for a safe place to hide, lo and behold, she signed up for the spouse matching program to find a suitable husband.

The book starts out slowly at first by introducing us to Jim and Taya, but it quickly picks up. Taya and Jim are different from each other, but I loved seeing how their attraction to one another was presented by Paris Wynters. Jim and Taya learn to admire and trust each other with time and perseverance. It is so warm and nice to see their arranged marriage develop and grow through each chapter. Taya and Jim’s chemistry is undeniable, they complement each other nicely and the love and support they have for one another is commendable. I loved Jim and Taya’s story and cannot wait for Book # 2 of the series, I hope it is just as exciting and steamy as this one.

An ARC of the book was given to me by Book Funnel, which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks so much to the author, Paris Wynters, for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

3,5 stars!

I love discovering new authors and when Paris Wynters told me that her book was about an arranged marriage, one of my favorite tropes, I was all in! Issued is a sexy, quick story about a broken Navy Seal and a spitfire of a woman.

Taya is running away from her past and the danger she got herself into. Her best friend killed her dad and burned her house, so she has nothing left. When she learns about a new spouse-matching program , she finds it as the perfect opportunity for disappearing.

Jim made a huge mistake at a mission and now he pays it with a brain injury and a command to get married, so he can be cleared again for action. His first marriage was a disaster but he has no other choice but to marry a mysterious stranger.

These two are so different. Taya is energetic, chaotic and sassy. Jim is a reserved, quiet man. Jim is not easy to like in the beginning because he is abrupt and destructive but you see that it’s all because of his injuries. He is hurt so he lashes out. I loved the fact that they supported each other after they get to know each other. They both make mistakes that sometimes are silly or over the top, but they resolve them quickly.

I have to comment also that I was surprised about where the author took one of the sexual scenes. I do not have a problem for a man to be submissive but each sexual intercourse has to have a background and so far this couple could not know the other’s preferences in the bedroom. They do not really know each other, so I found it strange for the heroine to experiment like that in the beginning.

They both have secrets that are scared to share but they slowly open up and become a real couple. Their sexual chemistry is there but I would have liked to see them more together in their quiet times. They fell in love a little quickly and I would have preferred to see what made them fall.

There is a touch of suspense due to Taya’s backstory but it is only resolved in the end and I think that the author could have unravelled it throughout the book with more action scenes.

The writing is easygoing and the secondary characters are funny and interesting.

Although, the storyline needed something more for me, I have to say that I enjoyed reading it and I would gladly read the second book of this series!

This has a different kind of plot - the military acting as matchmaker to try to mitigate the failure rate of relationships in that unpredictable and dangerous environment. Jim was sort of forced into the arranged marriage if he wanted to keep his job and Taya desperately needed a new start after losing everything and running for her life. What you ended up with was one person keeping a boatload of secrets and the other trying his best to keep himself detached. I enjoyed the development of their relationship and the road they both had to walk to get to a point of mutual trust. It's a quick, exciting, steamy read.

By now you all probably know I love a good marriage of convenience trope. What you might not know, is that I also love (x1000) Married At First Sight. I could watch that show for hours and never get bored.

Not only does ISSUED, by Paris Wynters, give you BOTH of those things, but you also get some danger, military alpha attitude, and a dash of steamy heat. It’s this enticing (charming?) amalgamation of all of these things, but the “marriage of convenience and without actually knowing each other” touch sealed the deal for me.

Was it super memorable? Eh, not really. I doubt it’ll stand out in the long line of romances I’ve read this year, but it was a fun (and quick!) treat. A “slump breaker” if you will. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it, and it did help me keep reading when I had a hard time staying focused on anything else.

This is a quick whit military romance book that I know that the readers will enjoy. The banter that transpires between Taya and Jim is almost comical. The writer did her research on the details of being a military person. The writer also did her research on someone whose hiding medical symptoms from the people who care for them. The book moves a quick pace. The details are explained plainly enough for the reader to understand. The writer sticks to the topic of the story. The introduction of different characters doesn’t bring confusion to the reader as to who are the primary characters. The romance that blossoms between Jim and Taya is very sweet and very steamy. This book is a must read.
I loved reading it. I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give it my honest review.

How can you go wrong with a damaged Navy seal, I spitfire of a woman and an arranged marriage. Throw in romance, a little actions and you end up with Issued.

Overall, I enjoyed the story of Jim, the navy seal and Taya, the girl starting over. I liked how they're relationship built over time. From strangers to love partners. Although at times, I wish it sped up a little faster because it took longer than I liked to get to the meaty part of the story. With that said, it is flowed well, had well-developed characters that had dimension and the supporting characters had me laughing at times.

Again I enjoyed the first book in the series and Wynters has left me wanting to read more from her in the future.

Here's an excerpt for ISSUED:

We watch for a beat or two, the sight of the princess issuing her not-so-subtle ultimatum bringing a genuine smile to my face. “I used to have a thing for Mary Crosby. Hell, I still have a thing for Mary Crosby.”

“Didn’t she play on Dallas?”

“She basically made the show.”

“Wow. That’s quite a claim.”

I knock her hand aside when she makes a grab for more popcorn, and one of my brows raise. The woman who shot J.R. made television history.

“And by ‘claim,’ I mean ‘an accurate and astute observation.’” The corner of her mouth lifts in an almost-smile when I release my buttery hostage. “Tell me more about your obsession with Ms. Crosby.”

“Mrs. Brodka,” I correct absently. “And it’s not an obsession. I just appreciate the classics.”

“Are we talking about the movie or the actress?”

My face heats when she lets loose a bark of laugher. “I was talking about the movie. It’s a good movie. Sue me.”

“You’re preaching to the choir, sweetheart. They don’t make space operas like they used to.”
I hesitate before sticking my big toe down the rabbit hole. “Have you ever seen Firefly?”

“I’m sorry? I’m alive and breathing, aren’t I? When I think about cinematic tragedies, canceling Firefly is right up there with the remake of Total Recall and the existence of Jurassic sharks.”

“Sharknado haunts my dreams.”

“I saw the movie and it left me feeling personally disrespected. You know there’s a movie called Aliens vs. Avatars?”

Settling deeper into the couch, Taya leans her head against my shoulder. The remnants of a grin linger around her mouth, and I want to lean in and kiss the vestiges away. My throat tightens. The weekend has not been kind, but for now, everything in my world is good and right. Is it wrong to want the feeling to last?

Dumbass.

Taya spends the next few minutes explaining which sci-fi movies she believes should be classified as acts of terrorism. I don’t always agree, but listening to the animated way she shreds plotlines and decimates directors and actors alike makes me wary of disagreeing. Her face lights up and she actively involves her hands the more passionate she becomes, and I can’t bring myself to look away.

It’s as if I’ve been placed under some sort of spell and the world is moving in molasses around me while my heart races along. Listening to the sound of Taya’s voice is more satisfying than any ocean wave I can imagine. Righter than any curve I could master on my bike.

The credits scroll across the screen, darkening the room. Taya angles her body to face me, one knee propped on the couch and her head canted sideways on the cushions. I mimicked her position at some point, and the intimacy of being face to face, separated by only a handful of inches further stirs up emotions that have been building, but that I don’t want to examine too closely because they are new and terrifying. They feel like soap bubbles. Swimming in iridescent color and too fragile to live, and that the slightest prod will make them burst.

“Katniss has nothing on my emee, though.” Taya rolls her eyes, waving a dismissive hand in the air.

“Huh?”

“With the bow and arrow.” Taya searches my face, concern etched in her features. “You okay?”

My fingers tug at the extra material around the leg of my Wranglers. Shit. She probably thinks I zoned out from my TBI. “Yeah, fine. So, your grandmother was a professional archer?”

“In a way. Archery and horsemanship are part of Mongolian culture. Did you know many of the warriors in Genghis Khan’s army were women? Though, according to my grandfather, I inherited more of my father’s side than my mother’s. Of course, the comment was made after I accidentally shot him in the foot with an arrow.”

I laugh so hard, my head whips backward. “Let me guess, your father’s side can’t cook, either.”

Taya gently kicks me in the thigh, the corners of her lips curling up. I grab hold of her, so she can’t pull away, and rest her foot in my lap. When her smile fades around the edges and she clears her throat, I worry I might have screwed things up somehow without even trying.

good series starter

I liked the concept and the characters but wish the romance was developed more.

I liked the mystery storyline with Taya. I thought it was interesting and added excitement to the story. The conclusion was action packed and gripping.

Like I said before I felt these two needed more scenes together in order for me to believe they were in love by the end. I needed more time with them to see why they were matched in the program. They had good chemistry but it seemed that their relationship went from 0-100. Maybe a scene with them talking about comics or bonding over something else they had in common should’ve been included.

The steamy scenes were nice and a bit different from the norm. I especially liked how dominant Taya was and how Jim was into 🍑 stuff. It was a nice surprise.

Overall, I enjoyed this but felt it needed more scenes between the main characters. I will continue the series since Tony & Inara should be a lot of fun.

Who in their right mind would simply volunteer to marry a random Navy SEAL, just like that?

As it turns out, for Taya Maverick this seems the only choice since her former best friend killed her father and torched her house and she needs to disappear to make a fresh start. And a Navy SEAL husband should be able to keep her safe, right?

Jim Stephens is determined to last the trial year in the spouse-matching program, to salvage his career. But Taya might just be a tad more than he can handle. Especially when her past comes knocking at their door.

A fairly quick and fun read in a great setting, Issued revolves around an entertaining but completely wild plot. The backstories of the characters are great but their actions and decisions seem a bit far fetched at times and completely senseless at others.

All in all, it's a fun and entertaining read that could have been better.

‘Issued‘ opens up the ‘Navy SEALS of Little Creek‘ series with an interesting concept of arranged marriages – by the military, for military members. The pilot marriage in this program is between two of the most unlikely to survive a week together let alone a year or longer people – yet, there is a spark between Jim and Taya that is undeniable, now they have to let go of their secrets and see where this experiment could lead to. Either a total wipeout for both or a lifetime of devoted happiness, in reality, that final decision lies with Taya and Jim.

The contrasts between this couple are huge. Taya is outgoing, normally happy, outspoken but she’s living under a threat that she will choose to keep from Jim. When your best friend kills your dad and burns your house down – well, that’s pretty intense and the instinct to disappear, to hide forever is overpowering. Yet, for her own reasons, Taya will keep most of this information from her husband for far too long.

Jim is quiet, reserved, and always in control of every aspect of his life. A brain injury while on active duty will change so much for this proud man. In order to return to duty Jim’s commander has pretty much demanded he takes part in the spouse matching program. He will do anything to get back on the battleground, even marry a stranger – he won’t like it, he’ll fight it every step of the way, and get out as soon as he possibly can. Funny how plans change when the right for you person comes along… even if she is holding onto her own secrets.

While I enjoyed ‘Issued‘ and will continue the series, there were ‘hiccups’ along the way for me in certain areas of this story. Yet, I’m not a writer and cannot tell anyone how to tell a story, but there were things I wanted to know more about in order to better understand what was happening, and the whys of some things. I need things to make sense, but, just like in life, things don’t always comply with my wishes. It’s a ‘me’ thing I’m sure, so don’t let that hold you back from giving ‘Issued‘ a try. This is a good stranger to lover story, with a dash of danger, and sizzling chemistry as well as very sexy times. I enjoyed myself, I simply wanted “more”.

Looking at this author’s website, I’m under the impression she doesn’t have a lot of published works. This story didn’t read like a story by in inexperienced author, but it did have some issues. While I didn’t expect her to have so few books out there, I knew her library was not yet too deep. I think I’ll enjoy experiencing her growth as she publishes more stories.

There is no denying the chemistry in this story. Jim and Taya are a great match. While on the outside it seems they are opposites, they actually have a lot in common. It takes quite a while for them to let any cracks show in the huge walls they both have erected, and even after those cracks are formed the walls don’t tumble down for a while. The more they open up to each other, the more they realize they are compatible and the more they want to stay together. If only they’d talk to each other about their actual feelings.

I’ll admit that I wasn’t so sure about the concept of the spouse-matching program. Honestly, even once it’s explained at the beginning of this book, I don’t buy it at all. Yet there was still something about the story that drew me in and kept me reading. I know I can be extra picky when it comes to military books due to being a Navy wife and Army mom, so I often have to suspend my disbelief. I’m glad I did so here and I allowed myself to enjoy the story. While the premise of how these two end up married is hard for me to go along with, the story isn’t actually about the program so it’s easy to push aside in my brain.

Both Taya and Jim are keeping secrets from one another. They don’t know each other so I can’t say that I blame them at first. But the secret keeping went on longer than necessary. The reader knows there’s eventually going to be a confrontation with Taya’s past, and it takes way to long to get to that point. It’s not so much that I had a problem with them not sharing all, but I felt that there were connections that the reader was missing out on. I got the gist of what happened between Jim and his friend Lux, and we’re told the bare bones of Taya’s best friend betraying her and the whole step-mother thing is just random, it’s all just quite hazy for too long and some of it is never fully rounded out.

There are some continuity issues that bothered me, but as usual I know I’m nit-picky about that stuff. So I also realize a lot of other readers may not even notice them. And none of these issues are things that effect the storyline so it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things anyway.

I enjoyed getting to know Jim’s teammates and I’m hoping they all find their HEAs as this series progresses. Even with the troubles this story had at times, it still kept me turning the pages and wanting more.

He has a requirement to be married and she needs to disappear.........match made in heaven or hell?

Issued is the first book in the Navy Seals of Little Creek series. This is the first book I have read by Paris Wynters so I was not sure what to expect, as you do not know if you will like a "new to you" author plus a newly published author. But the book description looked like it could be an adventure so I decided to pick it up. I found the story of Taya Maverick and Jim Stephens to be both interesting and enjoyable. The initial set-up seed of the story about the Navy insisting that a SEAL be married and then providing the service to find him a match was a bit far-fetched but if you can get over that then the rest of the story was good to go. There is drama, mystery, secrets, suspense and a whole lot of hot chemistry.
Overall I thought the author did a good job. But I also found that a number of things you could see coming in the story and a few places in the book could use a bit more polish. I do look forward to reading more by this author as she publishes.

I received a copy of this book for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

3.5 Stars!

Issued begins with Jim Stephens temporarily sidelined due to an injury while deployed. He’s worried that they sideline him permanently. While meeting with his commanding officer, he is told about a newly rolled out spouse-matching program. When he is told he will be the first to participate in the program, he is stunned. He also learns that the program will guarantee his being cleared for active duty. Knowing he has no choice, Jim accepts. After all, he only has to withstand this kind of torture for a year. Surely, he can last that long?

Taya Maverick had applied for the new spouse-matching program a while back and was surprised to get the call that she had been matched up with a Navy SEAL. The timing couldn’t have been better. Her father had been murdered and her house burned down……all by her former best friend and she knew she wasn’t safe staying where she was. Surely, she would be safe with a SEAL?

Jim is not happy about the arrangement but tells himself that all he has to do is survive it for a year. When Taya arrives, she is nervous, but holds her head up and knocks on the door. Once inside, introductions are made, and a quick ceremony is performed. Once the ceremony is over, Jim shows her around the house and shows her to her room. Her room looks comfortable, except for the fact that she is not into pink and frilly. Jim then leaves, which leaves her wondering just what in the world she was thinking. He didn’t seem any happier about things than she did.

As the two of them get to know each other, one thing is for sure: they have chemistry. Both try to deny their mutual attraction for reasons unknown to the other. However, just when things start to work between them, danger arrives in the form of Taya’s past.

Issued is the first I’ve read by Wynters. Even though the premise is a bit over the top, it is nicely written story. Taya and Jim have a hard time opening up to each other, but once they do, the chemistry is palpable. The characters are well written and engaging. The secondary characters are well written as well, leaving you wanting their stories. Taya’s backstory and the reason she’s running is a hard one. However, Jim’s backstory, once revealed in its entirety, endears him to the reader. Heartbreaking is the only way to describe it. Issued is ultimately a story of building trust and opening one’s self up to possibilities. Well done, Paris Wynters!

"For now, everything in my world is good and right. Is it wrong to want the feeling to last?"

3.5 Arranged Stars!!! Super cute and fun... Just need a little more clarification!

Jim is a Navy Seal that was injured during deployment. Scared he won't be able to go back to active duty he's given the option of doing the Spouse Matching Program, that will give him the all clear for active duty. Well given, that he has no choice he signs up. Taya was one of the first girls to sign up to be in the Spouse Matching Program and she's thrilled to get the call that she was matched, because he life is a mess. Her father was just murdered and she had her house burned to the ground by her best friend. These two have a quicky ceromony and that's that. But these two both can't seem to get it together and both have secrets they aren't telling each other. But spending more and more time together they can't seem to deny their feelings... but can it work?

I really liked the idea of the story, it just seemed choppy in some areas. I just needed a little more depth to some of the background I guess. But I loved Jim and Taya, I loved their feistyness and their relationship. Overall good, just needed a little more!

This was my first Paris Wynters's book, and definitely won't be my last. This is the first book in the Navy Seals of Little Creek, a Navy SEAL romantic suspense / opposite attract / slow burn romance. This is also a modern mail order bride. This is a Series of standalone stories, with intertwined characters, one of my favorite kind of Series! Taya and Jim's story has it all: original, hilarious, fast-paced, action packed, suspenseful, and filled with mystery and secrets. Taya has to disappear, and to do so, she volunteered to marry a random Navy SEAL as part of the military's spouse matching program. Jim agrees to this arranged marriage as his only way to stay in the team. The characters are well developed, and intriguing. Taya is a wonderful character, sassy, extroverted, confident, strong, and independent. She is also a badass biker! Jim is reserved, handsome, protective, and caring. They share an instant attraction, and a sizzling hot chemistry. They both have something they hide from their past. I like the easy, humorous banter between them. The storyline is captivating, and the mystery unfolds at a great pace. The supporting characters are great and intriguing, and I can't wait to know more about them. I like the brotherhood between Jim and his teammates. I enjoyed it, and I highly recommend it. Looking forward to read the next book in the Series, Matched, Anthony and Inara's story. I highly recommend it. #caffeinated

I really enjoyed Taya and Jim’s journey in Issued by Paris Wynters, book one in her Navy Seals of Little Creek series. This is a story of two people with plenty of baggage, who marry as part of the military’s new spouse-matching program. Marriage of convenience is one of my favorite tropes, so I was definitely excited about this story.

Taya signed up for this volunteer program as a joke when dared by her search and rescue buddies; now, she’s glad this is an option after her father is killed and her home is set on fire by her former best friend. Strong, determined, loyal, and a hard worker, Taya is determined to disappear from New York in order to start over and be safe. An added plus in staying safe is her new Navy SEAL husband. After a disastrous marriage to a serial cheater Jim has no interest in every marrying again. His options were taken out of his hands by a commanding officer who refuses to take no for an order. Jim needs to save his career after a mistake in combat puts him on the leadership’s radar and an injury temporarily sidelined him. Being the first to participate in this pilot program guarantees him his position and eventually allow for his clearance to active duty. Not long after saying “I do” Jim and Taya realize they underestimated their relationship. These two have off the charts sizzling chemistry which could burn up the sheets but neither was prepared to open their heart. These two need to learn how to trust, communicate, and be honest without holding anything back, before they can move forward. Then Taya’s past makes an appearance, causing major problems that just might keep her from getting her happily ever after.

Ms. Wynters wrote a passionate and emotional story that is definitely not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with chemistry, intense banter, and endearing characters giving Taya and Jim a chance for a future together. I highly recommend Issued to other readers.

1. I do not do spoilers unless warned. Read the summary above; it will tell you what the book is about. I will not reiterate.

2. This appears to be the first in a series but is a complete standalone, thus far.

3. This is an interesting spin on the arranged marriage troupe. The military implements a spouse-matching program. Totally not going to happen in real life but it is a fun ‘what if’ story. Besides, that is why it is in the fiction category. If you want real life, that would be found in the non-fiction category.

4. Plot is easy to follow and no surprises. Writing is well done. Does not feel forced or stilted.

5. Characters are decently developed. I would have liked a bit more tension and backgrounds but was happy with what I got.

6. I would recommend this as something a bit different on a popular troupe and would read more of the series.

Spoiler bit (so stop reading if you don’t want to know)

As one other reviewer remarked, I am still a bit torn on the sexual submissive scene of the Hero. I can see how it does and does not work with the characters but I’m still scratching my head and processing that one.

Engaging, interesting take on the fake relationship trope that I haven't seen before. It's clear that the author knows her stuff and did her research to get the details right, which is commendable. Ms. Wynters excels at putting Jim and Taya into a crucible that paves the way for tons of plot twists without sacrificing believability. I loved the plot, and how it lent an air of tension and danger to a relationship already turbo-charged with chemistry and attraction. Never a dull moment in this story.

The bond between Jim and Taya was hot and sexy, while also tender and real, the specialness shown through all of the things they have in common and how their senses of humor align. It was truly a delight to read about two people who were so compatible and genuinely liked each other, but due to their situations and emotional issues, struggled to open up. When they give in to each other, the sex is positively dynamite and enriched by an emotional undercurrent that makes it matter.

Secondary characters were fun, adding comic relief that was on point. The author's style of humor was refreshing and earnest, wonderfully understated. All of the elements worked together in consort. I enjoyed every page from beginning to end.

I received this arc from Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Impulse was a book with lots of facets. There was suspense, romance, and interactions between friends and coworkers. The premise was that there was a new program for military people. They would sign up and be assigned a spouse that was selected for them based on interviews and tests to select the best match. They had to stay married at least a year and attend bi-monthly counseling. The thought was this program would help reduce the high divorce rate in the military. The spouse wasn’t necessarily in the military but had to agree to the terms as well.

The husband was Jim, a Navy Seal that had been injured in Afghanistan and suffered from TBI. He was previously married but divorced after he caught his wife cheating. He was told by his CO that he had to do the program to be able to return to his life being deployed on missions. In addition to the injury, he also was suffering emotional issues as he’d been forced to kill a Child working for the enemy. He agreed to do it for a year and then get the marriage annulled.

Jim was fixed up with Taya. She agreed to leave NYC behind and relocate to Virginia Beach. She was looking for a new start. Right before she was to come, her father was murdered and her home torched by her former best friend Marco. Marco worked for a criminal organization and was forced to carry these acts out. She hoped Marco and his boss were unaware she was on to them and tried to report them. Taya believed marrying Jim would protect her from this bad organization.

Jim and Taya kept their issues secret from their new spouses. It was so compelling to keep reading to find out what would happen next. There was so much suspense; would the couple realize how the other felt? Would they ruin their chances by holding on to the secrets? Was Taya safe? Was Jim safe? I gave this 5 stars as I found it really easy to read, I couldn’t stop reading it and I loved the plot, the steamy scenes and the relationships between the characters. I look forward to the second book in the series.

First let me tell you this was my first read of a book by Paris and I have to say I was very impressed I love Military romantic suspense it is a go to read for me but this was such a different take on the usual Seal romances and had me engaged right from the word go

Taya Maverick has a need to disappear and what better way than to marry a unknown Seal as the pilot on a new program matching Seals to wives Jim Stephens already has one disastrous marriage behind him and really doesn't want a second but with command watching his every move after a botched mission in which he was injured he really doesn't have a choice So he agrees to be the first in a pilot program to marry of the Seals. The only problem there is a immediate attraction between them and with home recovering from an injury there is to much time for them to be together. When Taya past comes calling Jim will do whatever he needs to in an effort to keep her safe and in the process he may just realise that he actually like been married.
