The After the Fall series has taken place after some mysterious event nearly wiped all of humanity off the face of the planet. Even though this is the last book in the series (as of now), it shows us the very beginning of the end. I wasn’t too sure how I would like a prequel at the end of the series. I knew the author would make it epic AF, so I wasn’t too worried. Plus, I WAS pretty curious as to how everything went down in the first place.

Just like with the rest of this series, Before the Fall turned out to be a really fun ride. This starts out even before the governments get all involved. We start off with the meteorites falling to Earth, and the people who come in contact with them. This series has always been about the average people trying to live during this really messed up event, and this book is no different in that underlining theme.

Part of this novel shows us first hand PoV with the people around the world who first start getting sick. There is a lot of hopping around from different major countries. I thought that was really cool, because it’s something we don’t always get to see in a post apocalyptic / zombie story. Normally the story just starts with one person, or maybe a small group, being introduced to a world that has already fallen. I thought it was interesting getting to see it happen to the whole world and the very, VERY first contact.

The other part of the story tells us about a young Dr. Beck. Throughout the series, the older version of Dr. Beck gives us vague details about a lost love and past regrets. Before the Fall finally gives us some explanations to what he kept thinking back to. It didn’t seem as horrible as Dr. Beck eluded to, but I would imagine that over the 20 year gap, these things ate at him.

This book moved very fast. Fast pace and felt like an extremely quick read. Sometimes it felt like things moved a little bit too quick, maybe? Some details – especially with Dr. Beck- felt a little glossed over. It wouldn’t have hurt to flesh some of these actions out a little bit more instead of rushing through the story.

Before the fall was very entertaining though. It turned out to be another great addition to a very unique zombie series. It was great getting to see a little bit of insight in to how everything crashed and burned.

In Before the Fall, a prequel novel to the After the Fall trilogy, author Charlie Dalton tells the story of “the Fall” of humankind when the Earth was peppered with a deadly virus via meteorites.

It was time for the Perseid meteor shower and people were fascinated by the chunks of space rock that fell to Earth across every land mass picking them up, collecting them, selling them, and, generally passing them around as curiosities. The virus the rocks carried wasn’t detected for weeks and by the time it was discovered, massive numbers of people had already been infected. The virus spread quickly, unlike anything ever seen before, and those that were impacted turned into mindless, rage-filled, monsters that attacked everyone and anyone biting, tearing, and eating their flesh.

The President of the United States (as well as other heads of states across the globe) gathered military experts and scientists (including his best friend, Dr. Graham Beck) to stop the spread of the virus and the resulting destruction. But, it was already too late. With time running out for humanity, the strategies turned from a cure to a weapon to fight the green-lit satellite that keeps circling in the atmosphere above.

Before the Fall is Dr. Beck’s narrative and tells of the creation of the diary which had been hinted at in the series novels, and it does not disappoint. It lays out the sequence of events that led to the circumstances that existed at the time of the first book in the trilogy, and is a nice addition to the series. Dr. Beck, not a very likeable character previously, is definitely shown in a different, more sympathetic light. As with the entire series, I recommend this book to readers that enjoy young adult, post-apocalyptic stories.

Are we alone in the universe?

This is a prequel to the first 3 where we find out how it all began. I can't believe this is the end of the series.
The novel is utterly amazing giving us the view of how it all began of what we had been reading to start with.
Great tie in to all the existing ones.
Wonderful action and well written plot and story line.
Love the characters and all their interaction they have.
I can't wait to see what this amazing author brings us next now!!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. This is my honest opinions expressed here.

This instalment in the “After the Fall” series is actually a prequel, as it recounts the story of the brilliant Dr Beck and his life and work before the virus. The novel focuses on life just after the meteorites carrying the deadly virus explode into our atmosphere and land on various points on earth and what happens to the poor individuals that find pieces of green “treasure” How the Rage came to be named and how certain scientists tried to control and eradicate a virus that is out of this world and has been designed to kill all human life. Another fabulous novel by Charlie Dalton, a real page turner that’s keeps you on the edge of your seat. Brilliant series, what a shame it’s now completed.

This is a pretty good read giving a preview of the things that happened before the series starts off so technically speaking it's book 0.
Like the rest of the series it's a good read. Just not quite as exciting as the rest of the books. Still plenty of action. Just the characters are a bit underdeveloped. I kept trying to to see if I could link it to the rest of the series, but I never made the connection. Dr Graham was the same Doctor in the city.... But it is uncertain. All in all I give this book a solid 3 stars. It was a good read and gave some insight to why things happen in the books that followed.

This is actually the prequel to the other books. It moved along quickly, but it just brushed on the stories. It was interesting to see how it all started, but it didnt give enough of a backstory in my opinion.

Thanks to the author for a digital ARC of this book.

I couldn’t put it down! Prequel to the After the Fall series. It is about how it all began and how Dr. Beck became the person we love and hate.
