We met Murdo MacPherson in an earlier book. How he and Emily Nesmith fell in love and married despite the fighting between her father's army and his father's fight against the English conquerors made for a great read. Now we find their children, Callan and Alice, finding love in the strangest of places. We begin this story by following Tara Bright as she heads by ship from Edinburgh to Banmore in Scotland to marry a Highland man, the son of a business partner of her father. He is travelling with her. There is another man travelling to the same port with a mysterious cargo that appears to have great value, Suddenly a ferocious storm arises and catches the ship in its path, destroying it and leading to the death of everyone on board except Tara Bright. Alice finds her and she and Callan take her to their castle to recover from her ordeal. This love story is filled with adventure, misdirection, an evil villain, a missing laird, a mystery, battles and a reunion with an old friend. This is a really fast paced tale moving from one thing to another quickly. I could not put this one down. It was difficult to find a passage that was an ending point for something without something else starting right up. I loved the action and adventure parts as much as the loving parts. This is a well written, fast paced read with all the elements of romance and love entwined throughout.
