I see my other lives, a career in the Marines, those damn hand-written tests in law school, a business consultant, as if they're stories from a book. I see my books as if I lived there, as if I were friends with the characters. All things we remember are behind us, only those we imagine lie before.

I'm not sure which place I prefer, but I don't have to choose. They live together in my mind. My books have some award nominations, they have bestseller tags across multiple countries. I write about justice, honor, and loyalty because that's what I care about. My stories are mostly set within worlds that haven't been, but could be. We have to be ready for when those times come.

No matter where I went, I always had a book with me. Thanks to 21st Century technology, I now have hundreds of books loaded on my phone and always with me. This breakthrough allows me to binge read my favorites. How many books would I have read on deployments had I not had to have a physical book with me? I paced myself so I wouldn't finish too quickly.

We aren't encumbered like that now. I love the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. I have been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, I aspire to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared me to.

Through a bizarre series of events, I ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. I never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. My wife and I get to watch the northern lights from our driveway. Our dog has lots of room to run. And temperatures reach fifty below zero. We have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.

It's all part of the give and take of life. If we didn't have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

This is an excellent book that I think fills a need for writers.

It covers most of the reasons to collaborate on a novel and the things to look out for. He even discusses contracts so there are no misunderstandings.

It is very short and to the point. Strongly recommend.

-But and I speak from experience it is not easy. It can be a big-time waster too. I have tried to find someone to collaborate with and have had no luck. I could find no one that wrote close enough to my style to make it viable.

-I will keep trying, if I find the right person I can get better exposure.

Good book. A good thing to discuss and think about.

Collaborations by Craig Martelle is a non-fiction title that provides information on how to collaborate on writing projects with other Authors.

The Cover: As far as I’m aware, there is only one version for this book. It is bright, stands out, and is branded so as to align with other non-fiction titles in the Successful Indie Author series. I find it presents as a business focused title, which ultimately it is. Once again, I’m not a real fan of the colour choices, but the cover does grab your attention, the font is clear, and the cover successfully conveys that this is a non-fiction title.

The Good Stuff: There is a lot of great information in this title. The content was very informative for me and opened my eyes to what is involved in a collaboration. Not just the work, but how to protect yourself and the co-authors rights, etc… I like Craig Martelle’s down to earth, no-bullshit style. He claims to be a blue collar author, and I am convinced this is the truth. I believe it is well worth investing in this book if you are looking at collaborations. You may save yourself and others a lot of trouble.

The Bad Stuff: What can I say? It’s a great book. There is some repetition, but I’ve found that in this series of books and I feel it is just to hammer the point home. It didn’t bother me at all, but it may irk others. At the end of the day, there is a lot of value in this book for anyway looking to form a collaboration.

Overall, this was another easy and enjoyable read. It was very informative, gets you thinking about things you may not have considered, and provides some example contracts for different types of collaborations. After some discussion with my imaginary friends, we’ve decided to give this one 4 out of 5 golden bookmarks.

I really loved all the tips and tricks Craig put into this book about collaborating with others. I often do collaborations with other authors in anthologies that I publish with my publishing company, Fiction-Atlas Press. The section about vetting authors and making sure they follow instructions and pay attention to detail is terrific. Just like Craig, I find authoring to be a business, and those who pay attention and follow simple directions are those I am much more likely to collaborate with. This policy sometimes results in choosing less experienced writers over more influential ones because I know I can depend on the rule followers to submit on time and without unnecessary complications or extra work for me. They also tend to be more willing to learn new skills.
This book is an excellent blueprint for any author wanting to find quality collaboration skills.

Awesome as usual

Martelle gives detailed information on how and why to collaborate with other authors. Every section gives useful information and advice, but the kicker for me was the section including sample contracts.

Great food for thought for any author considering a collaboration. Major takeaway: contracts don’t just protect you but also future generations.

Just what I needed to hear with plenty of help insights. Good information that I can use to get started with collaborations. This book won't give you every little detail, that's for you and your partner to come up with.

I'm half way through this. It's very informative. I just need to wait for a successful author to ask me to collaborate with him/her now, haha.

So Informative

This book made me look at the process in a completely different light and gave invaluable advice. The sample contacts are also a nice bonus. Thank you so much.

I love Craig's non-fiction books. I have a sliding wardrobe door next to me at my desk and there's postits covering it with phrases, sayings, quotes of inspiration and a rather large number of them are tid-bits from Craig's Non-fic books. This one was no different. I'd like to collaborate some day and this has definitely made me realise I have some work to do before I'm quite 'there'.

I found this a good starting resource. The sample contracts in the appendix helped to formulate my work with my collaboration.
