Jake McClure ends up in the Wyoming Territorial Prison after a fight in which a man dies. He serves his time and when he gets out, he meets a widow who has a ranch, but she doesn't have the wherewithal to run the ranch, sell her cattle or keep up things. Jake McClure takes on the tasks before the worst winter in the history of Wyoming Territory. This is a story of the Great Die-up on the American plains when hundreds of thousands of cattle died in blizzard after blizzard. It's also a love story of two people to find love amid all the hardships of pioneer life. Another exciting novel from R. O. Lane
Jake played by the rules and became a better man for it!
A HEA western about Aman who had a rough break but didn't let it sour his life Jake met a women who had a rough break and they turned their lives around. Well- written and edited. Great characters and a steady plot line. An enjoyable read.
Mr. Lane you have another winner. This book was a definite page turner with great characters and lots of twists and turns. I am already waiting for the next book you Write . Would highly recommend this book and all others written by this author as I have read everything you have written.
Being a long time follower of R. O. Lane is the reason I purchased this book, and I am definitely glad I did. This one of the most compelling story I have ever read, with each new encounter being an outstanding western adventure.
Definitely another five star story by one of the most compelling storytellers of old American western folklore adventures. Jake will definitely impress you from beginning to end with his outstanding descriptiveness of how he came from nowhere to become one of the most prestigious law enforcement official of his era. Too, his ability to help a young lady, and her children, survive throughout many negative situations, and how she later became his wife. Their lives are definitely worthy of following, as Jake pulled no punches throughout their time together, and the two children bloomed under Jake's tutelage. The author's outstanding selection of characters definitely portrayed their assigned roles to perfection, and the compassionate storylines were very heartwarming throughout the entire book. This outstanding family takes their many task in stride and never looked back, as Jake succeeds as a lawman, who believed in safety of his family, and the citizens under his charge. He also believed in justice for all! I, without hesitation, recommend this outstanding western masterpiece to all readers, but especially all of you "died in the wool" western folklore enthusiasts, as each new episode will keep you glued to your seats, as you cannot quit reading until you've read the next exciting adventure. Even you non-western enthusiasts will find this compelling western folklore masterpiece appealing to you, from beginning to end!😄
Enjoyed the story very much , beginning to ending . Had my complete interest all the way. Felt sorry for all he endured in his life trying to please everyone & doing for the ones he cared for. Just to have him for a friend would be fantastic but can’t imagine what it was like as a soulmate. So eager to please & if need be still mean as he need be to those messing with his loved ones, don’t know who you patterned him after but must have been a hell of a guy, would recommend to anyone who likes a “really” good story. Starts sort of slow but grows on you quick . Too bad there’s not a #2 😊👍 Tweety 🦜🦜 🤣🤗
R.O. Lane has the gift of story telling. Once again, I started this book in my normal reading style of rotating multiple books at a time and this story stood out from the rest. I jumped into the story and in one sitting I read it through. It’s these stories about men and women of the old west and the attributes they bring to character development, moral code, positive attitudes and the need to law abiding citizens that not only believe in God but also show respect for their fellow citizens knowing and doing the right from wrong.
A Good Read: this is a very good book, except it does a lot of repeating. I enjoyed the book and have read many of the R. O. Lane’s books. I will watch for more from him. One thing he didn’t do was warn the children about the rattle snakes . I have lived and rode my horses all over Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana on endurance rides and that country is full of them.
I typically prefer stories of the Oregon trail or mail order brides, however I find myself occasionally looking for western written by male authors. Lane rarely disappoints me. He doesn't go overboard explicit on the sex situations and is not overly bloody and gory. He plots his story on interest and intrigue and keeps me reading. I know I can depend on a good read no.matter which of his books I choose.
Another fantastic adventure by Mr. Lane. Jake was a good man man who knew how to work. He was an innocent man an who was sent to jail for defending himself. He got out of prison and found a women and her two children who needed help. As they say this is where the adventures really started.
I feel like there were a few stories inside the main story. Each blended and flowed right back to the main storyline. I enjoyed this book very much. Will read more by this author.
I enjoyed this book very much.it showed a family who grew together. Jake I enjoyed because he believed in the law enough to become one of them. He wasn't sour because he. Was framed. His boy grew into a.fine young man. Enjoyed book very much. Keep writing.
An interesting story about a good man serving time in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Upon his release his true colors are revealed and it becomes an interesting story of his impact on others.
Not just a western, but a pretty good story about raising children the right way. The main character did not preach to his children, he showed them by living the right way.
I have been fortunate enough to have known some gentle giants. They needed to be forced into a conflict. It is easy to see how they may have reacted. Thanks for a good story
This is more of a story about how a negative start in life can be overcome if you want something more and are willing to do what it takes to achieve your goals.
This author is good full of adventure keeps you guessing but also keeps your attention I read this book straight through just couldn’t put it down now I have to find another book as good
This tale is so very different from what you would expect yet it is a story that will hook you completely. I couldn't put it down once I started it and finished it in one day. I thoroughly enjoyed it and believe you will too.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story about how he left prison and found his new life and family was hard to put down. I always wanted to see how he was going to solve his next problem. He always did the right thing. I hope there are many more books to come!
This story grabbed at my heart from page one. How Jake left home at a young age and made a good life until he was wrongly accused. Life changing. Jake never became bitter. This story brings out you have choices on how you with the cards your dealt.
Another good read by R. O. Lane! I really enjoyed this story. It was a page turner, full of twist and turns that entices you to continue reading!! Once I started I couldn't stop. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!
I really enjoy this author's writing! He can draw you into the storyline like you were sitting around the kitchen table after supper like we did as my grandpa told of his younger days!
I enjoyed trade this book because it had everything, excitement, adventure, villains and romance. I didn't want to stop reading because I wanted to know what was happening. Very good reading
Fantastic story keep reading to see exactly what’s going to happen hard to put down which makes it a great read. I recommend this book to all true readers .
This was a great book from start to finish. The authors writing makes the story and characters seem like you are there with them. Great book and highly recommend any book by this author. Great storytelling
Jake McClure by R.O. Lane is a 5 STARS read full of action & emotional drama. Gunfight action mainly with rifles & shotguns with some different characters from Wyoming Old West Era.
Truly different from the many others Mr. lane has written. A lovely story written with feeling. Made me feel cold when they described winter. Bitter cold. Rock on!
