ASTERION is the first book in a new paranormal romance series, based in a dark, sexy city ruled by Hades and his court of gods and monsters.

If you enjoy reading smart ass heroine's and sexy alphas, you'll love this enemies to lovers series starter!

The Labyrinth is a place of deals and desire, where the wealthy and dangerous play. Asterion's word is law, and he rules the club and fighting arena with an iron fist. As a member of the Court of Styx, no one in Greece is willing to risk crossing him...well, almost no one.

Ariadne is an assassin, with no job too hard or too dirty. She'll do anything to get revenge on her powerful, a-hole boss who murdered her sister and is keeping her in debt to him. When she receives the contract of her life, everything she's ever wanted is in reach.

She only has to kill Asterion, the most dangerously sexy man she's ever met, and piss off Hades in the process. No problem.

ASTERION is a modern re-telling of the Greek Minotaur Myth. It contains adult content, including violence, swearing, and steamy sex scenes.

At first, I just don't know what I am reading but I came into focus when the two protagonists meet...

It's a good read. Lots of action and s*x. I just don't like Ariadne to be too much perfect or near perfect. But maybe assassin are trained that way.

This is the first novel of the author. And as for me, it wont be the last.

Up for some action and adventure with a strong dose of mythological retelling thrown in?

I don't usually pay attention to what Amazon recommends to me. Seriously, I do not understand their algorithm because most of what they send me is nothing I would want. But this book... kudos to Amazon for getting it right!

After a lifetime trapped underground, becoming a monster of lore, Asterion is finally free to live the life he was always meant to thanks to his uncle Hades. Yes, that Hades. Unfortunately for him, there's a human militia group out there who believe they are monster killers and he's been made their latest target. And Ariadne is the assassin they manipulate to get the job done.

All Ariadne wants is to be free of her master. If that means she's got to kill another bad guy, then that's what she'll do. But why doesn't she get bad guy vibes from Asterion?

Because someone is working behind the scenes to manipulate them all!

Throw in an instant connection between Ariadne and Asterion and you've got the makings of a great story. To say I was entertained would be an understatement. I've already got the next book loaded up. I want to learn more about everyone. There's Hades, of course, and Medusa, Erebus, Thanatos, Charon and I'm sure so many more I'll get the chance to meet soon.

I love when a new-to-me author draws me in right from the start. I'm recommending this series!!

Update 9/20/23
Finally listened to the audiobook, and it was pretty good. I personally prefer the narrators for Alessa’s Fae Universe series. But when life gets hectic I always reread this book! It’s fun, hilarious and sexy. And that’s all I really wanted. Can’t recommend Alessa Thorn enough.

Honestly this is my 5th time re-reading this book. And it just keeps getting better. Is this cover slightly ridiculous? Absolutely. Is it one of my comfort reads?! You bet your ass it is. One of my favorite main female characters, Ariadne (a highly skilled assassin), is out for revenge, and she’ll kill anyone in her way… including the incredibly charming Asterion. He just happens to be a Minotaur & rather difficult to kill. 😉 They wreak havoc and amidst all of the chaos, they have some of the best sexual chemistry. This entire series is pretty amazing! Although Asterion and Hermes stories are my personal favorites. It might be the long haired, male, love interests??? I can’t recommend this series enough, especially if you appreciate Greek mythology or a great romantic fantasy. Love these unique, modern, Greek myth interpretations!

Enjoyable and entertaining but you can definitely tell it is a debut novel. Good for a debut, but still a debut. The use of pronouns could have definitely been more. Characters were just a little too cocky, especially the heroine. I like confidence, not cockiness. The chemistry and romance was also just okay, it definitely moved a bit too fast and not enough development, and the hero was a bit bland to be the hero. I think the side characters were actually more interesting than him, so I'm hoping their books are better.

I've never read a book where Medusa is the heroine so I will read that one, and then maybe Hades' book, but not sure if I will continue the series afterwards, we'll see.

This book was soooo promising in the beginning! I thought it was super interesting and steamy the first 20-30%.

But then after a certain scene, it kind of went a little down hill for me.

Their instant lust towards one another was so steamy and I was really enjoying it! But then it quickly turned to instalove...which is rarely my cup of tea. I did not understand WHY they loved each other. I didn’t feel it. I knew they were attracted to each other, and then all of a sudden, a switch was flipped and they were in love. I didn’t feel like I experienced them falling in love.

I loved this world/city though and am exited to read the next book :)

Badass, assassin FMC? Check
Sexy magical man/beast? Check
Horde of exquisite side characters? Check

I am ashamed to say that I have only read three of Alessa’s series. Given her writing makes me feel at home, I knew it was only a matter of time before I dove into this world too. All I can say is I am kicking myself for not getting here sooner.

I love the pace of Alessa’s books. The character development. The found family. The banter. The spice. It ALWAYS delivers.

You bet your ass I’m already into Medusa.

3 1/2 stars.

Asterion is good, solid urban fantasy set in modern Greece. There are lots of cool elements going for it. But it could be better.

The setting that newbie author Alessa Thorn creates is a unique one, at least for this reader. Set in the aftermath of Greece's economic collapse that began with the Great Recession of 2008, modern Greece has been transformed by the emergence of gods and monsters from its distant past. Hades, Medusa, Charon, Erebus, Minos, the Minotaur - they have become the leading figures of Greece's new economic prosperity. There's still poverty, as there is in most places, as well.

The author blends the modern and the ancient very well, in my opinion. She correctly calls Greece "Hellas," as the Greeks do, includes the corner souvlaki stands, and other interesting elements. The characters are all named after mythological figures, whether it's an assassin's handle, such as "The Spindle" for Ariadne, or a regular name for a regular guy, such as Theseus.

Where the book can be improved is in the actual romance itself and in the characters of Asterion and Ariadne. For me, at any rate, it was too much InstaHEAT that turns into InstaLUST that transforms into declarations of InstaLOVE. Additionally, Ariadne's character is just too much for me. I would love it if the woman had some flaws. But no, she is consistently described as a badass killer who can take out security, and the Pit fighters, can kill with headshots only, and still has the time and energy to reach orgasm. Oh, and did I mention she's also the Head Priestess of some super-secret stealth assassin group?

Yes, I had issues with Asterion as well, our deadly beautiful hero who falls for Ariadne at first glance. Asterion is described as this dangerous, overbearing, arrogant ass, in his human form. Yet once he turns in the Minotaur, he is practically panting in need of puppy approval from Ariadne. Is this love? Or is this some strange transformation of his to prove that he is not lethal to his sweetheart?

I supposed, deep down inside, I wanted more conflict between Asterion and Ariadne on a relationship level. Yes, she tries to assassinate him when she first meets him. However, once she is caught, she spills the proverbial tea so quickly she must have scalded her lap!

Overall, solid urban fantasy, and excellent world building. I do look forward to more by this up and coming author!

3.25 stars.

I know I just gave it a low rating. But I definitely plan on reading the next book in this series very soon.
There were some editing problems. Areas where the story lagged. Areas that felt stilted for various reasons. Mainly the use of the MC's names instead of He/She. That kept me from connecting to the characters and the story completely.
But! The story was interesting. There was quite a bit of action. The main characters and their side characters were very intriguing.
Oh! And the adult intimate scenes were HOT 🔥!
There is an ongoing or overarching plot that continues through out the series. Though we do get an HEA for our MC's.
I'm hoping the next story is smoother than this one. If it is, I can see myself really getting caught up in this series.

This book was such a pleasant surprise and really just what I needed!
I love mythology, and reading about gods and mythical creatures in the present day just makes me so damn happy :-)

Character development:
Ariadne is a kick-ass assassin that has the scars to prove she knows her trade. She has a firm understanding of the world and is driven by revenge. Normally I'm not all for the heroine that can do everything herself, but ermm... assassin... she kinda has to or she would live very long, not in her world. So yeah, I really didn't mind her taking care of things herself, it fit her.
Asterion, a sexy club owner and part of the Court of the Underworld. Have I told you yet he's sexy? Fortunately for us, he's also very caring (if a bit overbearing sometimes) and knows how to handle himself in a fight.

Pacing and flow:
Very fluid, very nice pacing! There is a lot of action but not too much at once, well balanced with all the conversations and well... sex.

The book:
The book itself was well written with only a few errors here and there (but nothing that bothered me too much). There is sex described in this book (if that is important to you), I would give it a 4/5 heat level :D
The book is 207 pages long, spread over 25 chapters and told from Ariadne's and Asterion's point of view.

Final thoughts:
This book really was what the doctor ordered. It was an easy and entertaining read. Don't think that because it only had 207 pages it was lacking in the worldbuilding or story department because it didn't. We got enough information to just go with the flow and enjoy. Medusa is next and I can't wait to get started on that one! :D

I read this during my maternity leave. I absolutely loved this. I devoured it. The thing I can really appreciate about this series is that each book isn’t very long but the detail and plot are well built.

Asterion and Ariadne are addicting. The heat is immediate and in my opinion, they deliver on it the best. Ariadne is very confident in her body and power. I loved that she was dark and violent in nature. She matched him so well.

I wasn’t sure I’d love Asterion seeing as he is part bull. 😂 But the author did a great job with his character. I just felt like he was the perfect protective, possessive big boyfriend. Plus I think it’s hilarious how their relationship starts and develops. Ariadne’s humor is just fantastic.

I finished this and then immediately began Medusa. I really encourage anyone who likes some heat in their fantasy and books about these gods to take a look at this series.

4/5 ★ Entertaining. A fast paced, action packed, predictable (not in a bad way, but if you read this genre kind of way), with a bad-ass, sassy FMC, and a monster on the outside, sweet and gooey on the inside, MMC.

THOUGHTS
Ariadne, FMC, is an assassin and she has to kill Asterion, MMC. Problem is, he's super hot, and she kinda likes him... It's a complicated world, and they have to navigate their way through it.

If you like an action packed, vacation-read sort of story, this one will do it. I'm definitely going to read the next one. I like Alessa Thorn's writing style.

🌶️ Spicy Level: 2.5 / 5 (descriptive but not excessive -- would have loved more)

If you're a Greek mythology lover looking for a fun, quick, spicy read then I'd recommend picking this up. It wasn't perfect, but since it was (I believe) Alessa Thorn's debut, it's definitely promising.

I've never read a Greek mythology inspired book that centered around the Minotaur and I found Thorn's take on it pretty interesting. I do wish we got to see more of Asterion's history, trauma, rebirth and overall arc, but for little over 200 pages you can't expect too much and what we were given was done well.

I wasn't always Ariadne's biggest fan. My favourite thing about her was definitely her plot line with Lia. I'm always here for an independent, kick ass, smart mouthed heroine but sometimes she sailed past the line of badassery and it got a little but too much and became cheesy.

I also have to say, for me at least, the 'big reveal' was glaringly obvious pretty much from the very first second that plot line came into play. But again, for little over 200 pages the author can't foreshadow and drop a false trail of breadcrumbs for us so I'm not mad about it.

Overall a pretty solid start to a new series.

New favourite paranormal urban romance series!!!
Hot damn, this book immediately shot to the top of my favourites list! A new and modern take on some Greek myths; dystopian-ish setting were the old gods have come back and taken over Greece. The city of Styx is not a nice part of town and magic, assassin-priestess’s and monsters are the new norm.

Ariadne, an assassin, takes a job to take out this super hot night-club owner Asterion. Without knowing he is actually the Minotaur- monster of myth, Ariadne lands herself in a world of trouble when she realises she has just crossed the most powerful man in Styx, Hades, by murdering a member of his court.

This book has so much action, heaps of laughs and lots of super sexyness. I read it in one sitting then immediately read it again. So refreshing to have a paramance that isn’t clean cut with blurred lines of morality. This isn’t a cutsey love story.

This is shaping up to be one of the best new series out this year.

I went back and forth on my rating. It is honestly probably a 3 to 3 1/2 star read. It's definitely one of those times that half ratings would be very useful.

Here was my dilemma. I know insta - love is a thing and I don't mind it, but it usually comes with a need for more development and that is the case here. I loved the storyline and the secondary characters that are getting their own stories with what I hope to see is a overall series story arc.

What pushed me to give a 4 stars is the banter throughout and not just with the H and h. The dialogue is just great with everyone. This is what made it a truly enjoyable read.

A new greek gods-inspired romance series to obsess over! And the covers...just do something for me. In this short and fast-paced fantasy book, we follow Asterion, THE Minotaur, and Ariadne, an assassin. Ariadne is contracted to kill him but ends up banging him instead...and also killing him...but then he comes back to life! And that is where this book begins. I was excited about the possibilities of it but while I enjoyed some scenes this book is overall very underwhelming, forgettable, and shallow in every single aspect.

The characters are bland and don't really inspire any great feeling from the reader, it's obvious then that the story in plot-driven but I'm actually here for the chemistry between the characters but I am met with these characters and an instalust and instalove that made the whole thing even less enjoyabole. How can you profess your love for one another after such a short amount of time???

The sexy parts were dull and over far too quickly, which is where the other issue I have with the book becomes glaringly obvious. The author does a lot of telling and not actually showing. From telling us the character climaxed without actually building it up (lol) to them confessing their love without building it up from little moments.

Even so, some scenes were fun and I liked their dynamic but wish it had been developed better.

I love reading anything to do with Greek mythology and this was something different than what I've seen before. I haven't read a lot of MF fantasy but I'm so glad I came across this book.
Asterion is the Minotaur from the labyrinth who in this book is part of Hades Court of Styx, and the female protagonist is Adriane who is an assassin sent to kill him.
I loved her smart mouth, always backtalking...it was cute. And Asterion had this possessive, alpha, gentle thing going.
There was a lot of action, steamy scenes, betrayal, loss,revenge....im talking a full bag of goodies going on in this book. I read it pretty fast and not many stories hold my attention.
There was some grammar issues but not enough to take away from the story.

Look, it's not a masterpiece, it's an available audiobook on libby when none of your holds are close to coming up.

THAT BEING SAID, the back story of the main character is eerily similar to the back story of the main character from A Broken Blade, and this book came out first. I don't think that's fishy on its own, but then you add the traumatic scene lifted off of The Dark Knight in the Halfling Saga and it gets a little sus. Just gonna leave that there.

It's not particularly good. There's insta love and some plot holes, but if you like books in which the society is modern but ruled by Greek gods in suits, here's another meh book for your meh shelf.

Oh also, the smut is incredibly cringe. Don't say I didn't warn you.

***3.5⭐️***

This book was interesting lol. It was like a beauty and the beast retelling but with the gods involved. Ariadne was an interesting character to read about because she would get the most out of pocket stuff thrown her way and she would be like “okay”?! Lmfao.

I hate the idea that the beast and man are different entities, that they have their own thoughts, etc. i think they’re both one in the same, and while he explained that to Ariadne, i feel like the writing still separated the two. I’ll continue the series to see how it ends but overall not a bad start. I feel like there wasn’t a whole lot of explanation of where these bad guys came from but hopefully it’ll get into it more next book

Going back and forth between 3 and 3.5 stars

I didn't really love or hate this. I would have probably enjoyed it more if the FMC were not so manipulative. I get that she was desperate for freedom in the beginning, but didn't think twice about sleeping with the MMC because she found him attractive and then to just to kill him. There is such a disconnect there that doesn't seem to attest to desperation, but apathy about life and selfishness to endulge in one's own wants and needs. It just didn't endear her to me.

Enjoyable read. Just be ready for this book to speed through all the steps or beats you’d expect in a romance. The relationship does moves fast, maybe a bit too fast. Banter is high level. Fun to read about a FMC would could kick anyone’s behind. The plot beats are well breadcrumbed out so that nothing comes out of left field.
