A Ghost Behind the Wall: A Short Story

Rate this book
Eighteen-year-old Hazel purchased a home in Fox Cave, Illinois, on Sycamore Lane, with money she’d inherited from her father. Shortly after she moved into the lovely red-brick Colonial dwelling, she’d be awakened by strange sounds coming within the bedroom wall, a music box playing Beethoven, and creaking footsteps. There must be a logical explanation, after all, Hazel didn’t believe in ghosts. Did she?
But then…a patron visiting her dress shop told Hazel of a gruesome murder that had taken place in the home…

I got my copy from the author through Booktasters. I enjoyed my read, the pacing of the book is good.
I've never read a short thriller and it was great, the writing was really well done, and the story was good. I really liked Hazel, I felt like her character was well written. I liked the fact that she found the money at the end that was the best way to end the book after she was in agony from the start of our story.
I liked the elements of horror/thriller in the book, and how they weren't obvious, there were nicely placed and subtle.

My favorite part was the backstory of the inherited money. I thought it was very clever and unexpected, it's not your typical kind of backstory that you would expect.

Overall, a pleasant read if you are looking for a quick creepy story that will keep you wanting to read on.

I was able to read and review this short story through Booktasters. I chose this short story because I found it interesting. I finished the story wanting more. Not that it wasn’t descriptive, but because it was very good that I truly wanted more. It is a good read and would recommend it to everyone.
The setting is in the 1800’s. Hazel inherited inherited money from her father and buys a house. She then starts hearing noises from within the walls. She is then told by one of her customers that her house is haunted. She learns that there was a murder there. Spooked by this, she decides to further investigate. While searching throughout her house, she discovers something inside her walls. I don’t want to spoil the ending, but I do recommend to read this short story.

Hearing a strange sound coming from behind the wall at the middle of night, the first thing anyone will think of is that it is a sound made by ghosts. But when a strange visitor came to Hazel to fix her dress and told her the story about the house she recently bought, Hazel had to investigate. With the help of her beau Randall they worked to unlock the mystery and what Hazel found behind the wall was unbelievable.

When the story ended I felt eager for more, but it was a good read

What do you do when you hear music in the middle of the night coming from the walls in your house. Do you run or do you investigate? The strange melody continues, and no matter how hard she tries to find it she can not. Then one day a sad tale about the house is told by a total stranger. Could this be true?

A ghost behind the wall is an intriguing book that tells you what is need to be told in a very short beautiful way. As a reader, I love a story that has twist and turns, ending unexpectedly in a way I never thought it would. This story gives me that feel. I recommend this book to those who loves a bit of mystery yet a reality touch to the story. Looking forward to reading more from the author. 🌸

Hazel inherited money and bought herself a house.A customer comes in for an alteration to her dress and tells her something that triggers her to investigate the validity of this 'something'.
Fortunately Hazel ends up a winner and the 'ghost' vanquished.
Short and sweet.

A Ghost Behind The Wall: A Short Story
LeAnn L. Morgan

Short thrillers are always a treat to read. It will make one wonder with questions like 'How it's going to end?, There are only few pages left!' Well, "A Ghost Behind The Wall" is one such story.

The story is set in 1898. Hazel recently inherited some money from her father and bought a house at Sycamore Lane. Everything goes fine until she was disturbed by mysterious voices and noises behind the wall. Any usual girl who lives alone will ran head to toe if she hear noises at midnight from behind the wall but it's Hazel and she always looks for logical reason in everything. Things got complicated, when she heard the rumours about the house being haunted by a ghost and a crime that happened in the house, a long time ago.

Is Hazel still brave and calm? Is she still wants to live there? What are the noises behind the wall?
You have to read the short story to know the answers 😉

The author takes the reader deep into the story to travel along with the charactesr. Though the story lacks 'what next?' thrilling moments, it is quite a good one time read.

I was recently given the opportunity to read "A Ghost Behind the Wall: A Short Story" by LeAnn L. Morgan. It is a very short story set in the late 1800's when Hazel, a character in the book "My Lovely" also by LeAnn Morgan, bought a house of her own.

As the story unfolds, a number of things begin to surface, and there seems to be a ghost hidden in the walls.

Geared for Teen & Young Adult, anyone who has read "My Lovely" will want to take a few minutes to read this snippet of Hazel's life.

Again, author LeAnn L. Morgan has captured the essence of the late 1800's era and keeps one wanting to read more.

I'd like to thank Booktasters for this opportunity.

I had my doubts at first because it was a ghost story and I'm not a fan of horror. However, it wasn't scary at all, which was surprising considering the title. On an unrelated note, the history of the house reminded me of "No Body, No Crime," a song off Taylor Swift's album, evermore.

Since this is a short story, I felt that having it be in chapters was unnecessary and slowed it down. Even though it's short, I wish I could've gotten to know Randall more besides he's protective and Hazel's beau.

In the end, this was a decent story. Not much to it really.

When Hazel received a sizeable amount of money she took it and moved to a cute little house with a dark history. Years ago a man came to stay with Edna, the previous owner of Hazel's house, and her sister Dolly, who owned the house across the street. After a heated argument it was rumored that Dolly murdered Edna and ran away with the man. Now, mysterious music is playing in the walls of her home at night and she fears it may be haunted.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. That being said there isn't a lot I can say about this book without giving everything away considering it is only 25 pages long. It was very short and to the point. While it was short all questions that started the book were resolved by the end. We knew where the noises came from, what caused them, and the mysteries resolution. The writing in the book wasn't bad and the story was intriguing.

This is why I don't normally read short stories and had I realized this was a short story at the start I wouldn't have agreed to read and review it. Only because there is nothing else that I am able to add to this review and not give things away.

I have read another book by LeAnn, August Raven, which I enjoyed immensely. It is likely why I agreed to this review without paying attention to the fact it's a short story.
