All I want is a hot guy to roll around with every once in a while. No muss, no fuss. It’s precisely what I’m looking for when I’m out for a night of dancing and run into the most delectable Trevor Ryan. We’re explosive together. Molten. It’s one of the best nights of my life, and when I wake up the next morning alone, I can’t help the slight twinge of regret that I didn’t at least ask for his number.
But two months later, none other than god-between-the-sheets-Trevor walks into my bakery. And he’s not alone. With entanglements and complications galore, I should forget I ever met him.
But I can’t.
I thought all I wanted was to be free and single, but apparently, my heart has other plans.
Cate discovered her love for books of all kinds early on, but romance is where her heart truly lies. She is addicted to the happily ever afters and the journey the characters take to get there. Currently residing in British Columbia, Cate loves living just a stone's throw from the water. When she's not writing, she can be found consuming coffee at an alarming rate while wrangling her children, her husband, and their two cats.
Once again, John Orr knocks the narration out of the park!
This was, by far, my favorite of the series. Seeing snarky, sarcastic Haydn fall in love was worth every fail and flailing moment.
Party boy Haydn's best friends have all gone the way of coupledom and he's determined he won't be lost on that ship. One night stands and hook-ups are more than fine with him because he's seen his share of "crazy in love" and wants NO part of it - thank you very much!
“You are the crazy one. All of you. All you so-called happy couples are the crazies. You think I want to go through what you all went through? That was fucked up with a capital F. Oliver leaving the state without so much as a word and us having to fly across the whole fucking country to go after him, and you! You and Declan. That couldn’t have been more dramatic with the leaving and the angst so strong I was almost drowning in it.” “It wasn’t that bad,” Lucas protested. “You just don’t remember. Your sex-addled brain is storing away the unpleasant memories and all you think about is how yummy your man is. Well, Lucas Hale, my men are plenty yummy too, and I get a variety. Hot guys that make me come, and then fuck right off so I can get some sleep. It’s the perfect relationship for me.”
Trevor Ryan is different from all Haydn's other hook-ups when he first gives Haydn the best night of sex he's ever had. Ever. Then when Trevor keeps coming back around for more, it starts to melt that icy reserve of Haydn's. Because even though Haydn is determined that he won't fall into the trappings of a relationship, he finds himself falling in love with both Trevor and his daughter, Violet.
Then, of course, there's some miscommunication...
Yet, even the miscommunication in this installment didn't dampen my enjoyment.
OH! And the sex... well, the SEX is HOTTER THAN HOT!
I enjoyed the characters and the story, but it was the extremely awesome sexy times and FANTASTIC narration that put me over the edge into loving it.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I read the first two Hope Cove books and was really looking forward to Haydn's story. He was always unapologetically himself, a little OTT and sassy. I felt like he lost a little of that in this book, but maybe it's more seeing the 'real' Haydn. The one who's afraid to love and trust someone else with his heart, a more serious side then I saw in the previous books.
His best friends have all coupled-up and we get to see a little of the Mack and Oliver and Lucas and Declan from the first two Hope Cove series in this story, but this can be read as a standalone. Haydn makes no secret of the fact that he doesn't want a relationship, he doesn't think love works longterm, he has seen enough people fail at it, he's not even going to try.
After one really great night with Trevor, Haydn's life is about to change. They run in to each other again and Trevor sets his sights on him and he won't let Haydn scare him away. I enjoyed watching poor Haydn, he's falling for Trevor, the sex is awesome, he's a genuinely nice guy, he has a cute little girl and makes a real effort to go at the speed (or lack thereof) that Haydn needs. Haydn is understandably confused, he is falling for the man and his daughter, but he also knows he's not ready for a real relationship, or is he? We get to know a little more about his history and why he's so reticent to believe in a HEA. Even seeing his friends falling in love hasn't convinced him : “Sure, they were happy now, but the universe was not static. It, and everything inside it, was in a constant state of motion. Things move, change, evolve. There was no telling where his friends’ feelings might lie in a handful of years.” But just like in the other two books in this series our guy needs a little shaking up to see things clearly. This is a sweet story with little angst or drama and “Haydn’s Chocolate Wasted Cake” recipe at the end is the icing on the cake, so to speak.
This was another really good addition to the series and a solid 4 stars from me!
So this was the their and final, I think, book in the Hope Cove series and it was really good. We got to see some past characters again and we got Haydn's story at last. I liked Haydn in the other two books so it was exciting to see him get his own story. He is definitely one of those characters I think you will either love or hate him because he annoys you. I got him, so he was really lovable to me and I saw why he felt the way he did.
I really loved Haydn with Trevor. They had chemistry. Trevor comes with baggage, though... baggage that makes Haydn unsure. I actually didn't mind Violet in this. She was a great kid, she didn't annoy me, and So that made the story a whole lot better for me and I actually believed the whole family bond thing. None of it felt rushed or unrealistic, which I find happens a lot of the time.
It was a really solid book. And the only reason I'm not giving it 5 is because I just loved Mack and Oliver and their story a little bit more. But I can honestly say this is an amazing series and I cannot wait to read more from the author!
I'm not sure what I was expecting with Haydn's story but I've been waiting for it because he was a standout character for me in the series.
There was sweetness here with just a bit of sass. A really gentle romance and I think I'd say my favourite of the three. It was pretty angst light and just a nice, sexy little read.
"Tonight is not about bunnies and babies. Tonight is about getting me laid," Haydn said as he flicked the visor and used the miniature mirror to touch up his eyeliner. "It's been way too long since I've been good and fucked, and if you two are proper wingmen, we can find some beautiful man to take me home and I will be far less of a bitch in the future."
This was a charming third and final? book to the Hope Cove series by Cate Ashwood.
Haydn was in the series from book #1 Brokenhearted and he was always an interesting secondary character. This time Haydn gets the man, although he has never wanted anymore than a night here and there. His friends can have all that mushy love and family stuff.
Haydn is out with his "wingmen" Oliver and Mack for a night of fun, dancing, and hopefully some hot sex at a bar in another town. Not long at the bar, Haydn meets up with the sexy Trevor who takes him to a motel midway between the bar and Hope Cove...after an initial, uh, car park encounter. They have a night of great sex and Haydn and Trevor go their separate ways after. However, as fate would have it, Trevor and Hayden meet again when Trevor shows up at his bakery with a five year old and a very pretty woman in tow. Haydn assumes that Trevor is a lying, cheating scumbag and he is not happy. Trevor is equally shell shocked to see Haydn, but he has an order for cupcakes for his daughter, Violet, to organise, and he does what he has to quickly as he has places to be.
This is another sweet offering from Cate Ashwood and the characters are very engaging. I'm not very good with children in my romance reading but it didn't dampen my enjoyment of the book.
Haydn and Trevor are hot together, and this is the steamiest book in the series. If you like sexy romance - Trevor has a thing for having Haydn up against a door or a wall at some stage - and if you like a nice town, lovely secondary characters, and a friends-are-family feel, then this book and series has you covered. Review at http://ontopdownunderbookreviews.com/...
I have really enjoyed Cate Ashwood's 'Hope Cove' series, and I knew that Haydn's story would be my favorite. I've adored Haydn from the moment he stepped onto the page, and I couldn't wait to see his world turned completely upside down. I suspected the author was going to give him a run for his money, and I was right.
"The woman you saw me with before, that is my sister, Sam. Not my wife. I am not married. I never have been. Because… and you may find this hard to believe… but I am gay. That was my daughter I was with. She is the wonderful product of a not-so-wonderful mistake on my part, but the mother hasn’t been in the picture since she was born. Sam and I have raised her since she was a baby.”
Haydn is the epitome of one-night, no muss, no fuss, and definitely no relationships. He's happy for his friends, but the hell they went through is exactly why he doesn't want to deal with anything more than getting his itch scratched. His and Trevor's one-night (or so he thinks) is explosive beyond belief, and even though Haydn never plans on seeing Trevor again, he has to admit that memories of that night haunt him. Until Trevor walks into his bakery, with his daughter, and never seeing him again turns into another night, and Oliver inviting Trevor to join the gang for poker night. Where Haydn discovers that Trevor is a retired NHL player. Oh, this is just too much.
Overall book review: 3.5 Audio book: John Orr (Narrator) Book Cover: 3.5
This was a nice little in-between. So I accidentally skipped book 1 and 2, but what the hell. I could follow easily enough. Not a five star book but enjoyable all together. The audio was good and I think John Orr did a great job.
Broke down and read the 3rd book. And I am going to say this was my favorite out of all 3. The steamy sex, the relationship, all of it. Even the conflict didn't bother me.
This is the third book in a series that should be read in order to fully appreciate all the characters.
Haydn Prescott has never thought of himself as the type to settle down. He witnessed first hand as his grandparents and parents slowly drove each other mad, and they are still together, miserable as ever. He remembers all too well how the breakup in the beginning of his best friend Oliver’s relationship with Mack almost killed both of them. Of course they’re happy now.. or as Haydn likes to think of it, for now. Thanks, but no thanks are his thoughts. He is not, however, in objection to a night of mind blowing sex with the guy he meets at the bar.
Trevor Ryan spots Haydn the second he walks into the bar, and he likes what he sees. The two share a sex filled one night stand and that’s the end of it. But Trevor can’t stop thinking about Haydn. So when he, his daughter and sister wander into the bakery one day, both Trevor and Haydn are taken aback to find each other where they live. Sparks fly once again and they quickly find themselves in familiar territory.
The pair share more than just an explosive sex life. There is a deep mutual attraction and communication seems to flow. But Haydn is so dead set on being in a committed relationship that as soon as a good time starts to show signs of something long term, he freaks and runs. Trevor is determined to prove to Haydn that they can be together and be happy.
Ashwood is one of my favorite authors in the genre. I especially love the way she has written this series focusing on a specific coupling within each book, but still intertwining all the couples and characters into every story. There is a way that this author explores the passion between two men that is absolutely breathtaking, captivating and downright sexy! But there is a valid storyline underneath that aspect as well.
If you are a reader that likes stories about never giving up and finding your HEA, then this is the series for you.
1. The Cutting Edge was released in 1992. Ergo, it's not an "80s classic".
2. "'...but you think she would be better off living with her birth mother, a sixteen-year-old girl who didn't have the sense to use a fucking condom?'"
It's not often that I want to slap an author, but when it happens, it's usually the fault of blatant, indifferent ignorance. Condoms are not fail-proof, and being young is not an indicator that a person will be a bad parent. Regardless of the circumstances.
So this may have gotten three stars out of me, but my overwhelming desire to give Cate Ashwood the finger drags the rating down for me.
I've been anxiously awaiting Haydn's book because he's one of my favorite people in this series. That said, I didn't actually enjoy his story as much as I thought I would. I didn't understand his intense need to stay single or his anxiety about relationships. No, he didn't have the best examples growing up but nothing traumatic happened to him. It felt a little like trumped up angst to make the book feel deeper. I know it sounds like I didn't like it but I actually did enjoy the book quite a bit, I just had high expectations.
A nice, sweet story with a little of angst. I was looking forward to reading Haydn's story and I'm not disappointed. I liked Trevor and it was good reading more about Mack/Oliver and Declan/Lucas.
Brokenhearted remains my favourite book in the series.
Haydn found his prince. I felt like a lot of things could have been played up in this book, like the fact that Trevor was a hockey player, it was just skimmed over, also how he got his daughter, his sister's involvement. It would have been so interesting to explore the dynamics with Haydn and his grandparents. It was still a nice read, no angst, perfect for the freezing temps.
A terrific wrap-up (although I'd love for there to be more!) for the Hope Cove series. Just another reason this author is one of my auto-buys! Thank you Cate :)
Forgot to add this when I listened to it a while ago. I loved the audiobook and I'm so glad I got to listen to the whole series because it was even better the second time around.
This was Hadyn’s story and I think it was the best in the series. Hadyn is pretty much a manslut and loves his one night stands. He has never wanted a relationship and thinks his friends are all nuts for pairing up. Then he has the best sex of his life with Trevor. He can’t quit thinking of that night, then in walks, the one man he can't seem to forget with a woman and daughter. But Trevor won't let go. I loved the ups and downs. I loved getting more of Oliver and the other guys but the back and forth with Oliver is such fun. There are lots of twists to get to the HEA for these two. And Violet is just too cute. I would have loved to have known more about Trevor. It does touch on his past but a very faint touch. I wanted to know more about how Violet came about and how he did get her but all in all, this was a great romance!
This had all the parts that could have made it my favourite of the series, unfortunately Haydn made it my least favourite.
I don't understand what Trevor even saw in Haydn. His constant running away and ghosting Trevor was really annoying. And not only that but on the last time he seemed to forget that he was also doing it to a 5 year girl who at that age would not have understood. When he finally gets his head out of his ass and can't get ahold of Trevor he never once thinks wow this what I put him through, it was all about him.
So, this is the third book in this series. Overall, I did like the series, but this one fell flat. I so did not like Haydn. I thought he was immature, afraid to deal with his feelings and emotions and Trevor should have never waited around for him. I did like Trevor, though. But I do think he was a bit of a pushover with Haydn and should have never kept trying chase him down - at the end almost for weeks. Not the best way to end the series, but overall, the series was fun.
Just like previous books in this series, the ending was very abrupt and things seem unfinished. It needed an epilogue. This wasn’t a problem I remember in her more recent works, just her older stuff apparently. I really enjoyed the book otherwise, just feel like “the happily ever after” was a bit sparse.
First I would like to start off with saying that I totally love the fact that both author Cate Ashwood and publisher Dreamspinner Press went and published this trilogy one right after the other. For a fanatic series reader like me, that is heaven on earth to not have to wait months or years for a new part.
I had the pleasure and luck to have been able to read and review all three parts and see the series come to life in the words of the author.
This third part starts of with an explosion of Hotness!
Haydn meets Trevor one specific night when he is out with his friends; friends we know from the earlier two books in this series.
As a matter of fact, let me take a moment to mention that it is great to read about the main characters from the first two parts. It is good to see how Oliver and Mack are doing from Brokenhearted and how Declan and Lucas, the main characters from Wholehearted, are making it work.
The friendship and bonding between all the men is great, warm and hopeful and as a reader I appreciated the interaction greatly. It is comforting to read about them on a poker night and to see little snippets from Declan and Lucas. We do get a lot of Oliver and Mack (and their little girl) in this final part.
Haydn is working the bakery with Oliver and they have found a great rhythm and partnership in this to both their satisfaction.
When Trevor by coincidence steps in this same bakery many weeks after he and Haydn had their hot night in a hotel room things start to roll in all kind of directions.
From Trevor’s little girl Violet to his sister Sam and the instant connection/attraction there (still) is between Haydn and Trevor.
We find Haydn struggling between his mind and his heart because he cannot deny his feelings for Trevor and that when they are together it feels really good.
But his mind keeps telling him this isn’t going to stick, that this is going to end badly because in his mind everything does in the end (despite what his friends keep telling him).
Author Cate Ashwood keeps the reader on the edge between Haydn’s mind, his feelings and his actions as she also adds Trevor’s careful approaches and advances. Not to forget his adorable little girl Violet. This little girl will steal your heart for sure, let me just mention Purple :)
You can feel it escalating to the boiling point and when it arrives it leaves you hanging with so many mixed emotions there.
There is major drama added near the end and although you can feel it coming, pay attention to what you are reading so it doesn’t surprise you. It is carefully written and makes sense.
What I do regret is not being able to read more of what happens after, without wanting to spoil how they get back together again.
The end did leave me a with a bit of a rushed feeling. I would have liked to have seen more in the wrap up of this story. It goes a bit too easy in my honest opinion.
Summering it all up I have to say, where Oliver (and Mack) stole my heart in the first book, I cannot deny that Trevor(and Haydn) come very close in this last one.
Combined with the easy style of the author, Cate Ashwood, and the complete feeling you get reading this story, I would highly recommend this whole trilogy to any reader and I dare you to not fall in love with Hope Cove and it’s citizens.
