Synopsis: A delightful one-week journey to Dragon Haven with the Upside-Down Magic kids... what could possibly go wrong? Although Nory is still the main character, this book shines the protagonist light on Andres, the upside-down flyer who wears a backpack of bricks to keep him from floating up into the sky. For the first time in his life, he feels like he can explore his flying... bouncing off of walls and twirling around columns... but will he go too far? In the meantime, Nory has her own issues. It turns out that they aren't as alone at Dragon Haven as they thought they'd be. The other group of kids joining them is her headmaster-father's private school students from Sage Academy. And that's a problem, because Nory's got daddy issues, or rather, her daddy's got Nory issues. In the meantime, there's plenty of adventure feeding and caring for dragons at the rehabilitation center. Can Nory enjoy her week, despite her strict father's looming presence? Will the Sage Academy kids taunt them (UDM kids) about their "wonky" magical abilities, or is there room enough at Dragon Haven for all kinds of magic?

In this series, so far this is my favorite. Nory has some real growth moments emotionally.

The more I read of this series, the more I like it. The fantasy elements are well established, entertaining, and consistent from one book to the next. Despite the pure fantasy of the stories, it also deals with a lot of true-to-life relationship issues with both family and friends. In each successive book, Nory delves deeper into understanding herself, her magic, and her relationship with her father. I also like the way each book after the first one alternates chapters between Nory's perspective and the perspective of one of her UDM classmates. The UDM class is kind of a metaphor for special needs classes in the real world, and I love the way the series focuses on the importance of the students learning to appreciate their own unique talents, to make the best of the gifts they've been given, and to learn how to overcome obstacles and to use their special magic successfully.

Cute to read with kids. Strong allegories to SPED but a great anti-bullying read for any kid.
