The True and the Crown #5

Five Kinds of Love

Rate this book
There are only two things magic can’t do: show the future and raise the dead.

Maybe there are only two things that matter.

I thought life couldn’t get darker than being exiled to your world.

Then I came home and fell in love, and now I know better. No matter how much I suffered, it was nothing like watching those I love suffer.

Cax, Airren and Mycroft are suspended between life and death, waiting for me to rescue them, if I can. The rips between worlds keep widening, allowing more Ravengers to slip through and stalk their human prey. And of course, the good people of Avalon think it’s all my fault. No rest for the dark lord’s daughter.

I’ll rip the kings from their thrones if that’s what it takes to save the men I love.

And I’ll give up my own life to seal the rips if I must.

But even as the walls close around us, I can imagine a happy ending…

No matter how dark things get, I’m going to fight for it.

Five Kinds of Cursed is the explosive final chapter in the True and the Crown series.

I love this!

It was absolutely the perfect ending to this series and the story! I absolutely adore her men even though I hated a few of them quite a lot for a while for the lies. I’m so very glad with who the fox turned out to be and I really want Stelly to have a story herself or Alia! Or just a bonus epilogue type book with babies for Tera and a love story for one or both of them thrown into the mix, but that’s just me loving the characters as I always do! It’s tough to end a series because I’ve grown to love the characters so much! Thank you May for always writing such captivating stories! Whether I love or hate the characters on the page, I’m always invested and thoroughly enjoying a book through and through from beginning to end when it comes to your books!

Great series

This series was very entertaining, it kept me reading up past the time for bed. I love the characters. They felt real and watching them grow into the people they were meant to be was rewarding. There is a lot of drama, intrigue and evil parents. I wish their could have been redemption for the falsely accused, but the ending was nice and everything tied up nicely. Sometimes in life, a fresh start is all we need.

This is the end of the series, and it's a little anti-climactic for me.

There was a scene in a prison filled with ghouls that was such a promising idea that just fell flat.
Also, magic around the sacrifice and the Merlin-induced Gwen body thing isn't explained.

Lots of unanswered questions for the end of the series.

Wtf was that ending? Sooooo abrupt and left sooo many questions unanswered... idk if this book wasn't edited as well or what but this book was a mess. That Arthurian plot line felt sooo random especially when it's never mentioned in any of the other books and it's suddenly very vital to this book, I get it it's called Avalon, but Arthur and Guinevere are never hinted at in the other books. The entire series is lacking in the world building. Why in the fuck are they called Marines if supposedly Avalon severed from England.. Also sooo many plot holes! Wtf happened to the True? They literally become irrelevant when nothing was wrapped up with them, what about the guy who could stop time, not Merlin but the True boy. THE SERIES IS LITERALLY CALLED THE TRUE AND THE CROWN YOU'D THINK THE TRUE WOULD BE IMPORTANT RIGHT? RIGHT??!??? So many of those weird plot holes happen throughout the series. I like how all the guys accept each other and all but one HUGE issue I have is Cax and Mycroft. It's said from the beginning they are lovers right... why is there no intimacy between them at all? Like why have an mm couple within the RH but shy away from them ever being together.. I swear they only KISS TWICE! TWICE within the entire series, what the actual fuck. Supposedly they love each other but you honestly can't tell. Idk why she even included mm if she's too scared to write it..

Honestly this book just pissed me off. I should have DNF'D once we got into the shield plotline but I made it this far, I felt like I had to finish it. What an absolute disappointment.

One heck of a conclusion!

This was an epic tale that deserved an all encompassing unheard of epic finale!
There is so much everything in this one it is a challenge to write anything that doesn’t give away pertinent information and y’all are well aware I don’t do spoilers.
The best I can do is say grab your copy and settle in because it is so worth it.
I have loved this series even despite many errors trying to derail me and I can honestly say it is worth a spot on my shelves!
Minimum language and the graphic levels are still at the R+ level so pick your allowed audience if you share all of your books.
I actually hated saying goodbye to this crew!

Finally a good FMC

Often when I read RH books I find the fmc so bland or awful that I question why one let alone more guys would find her appealing. In this book, Tera is smart, appropriately sassy at the right moments (without being downright rude like other fmcs), independent and not ridiculously helpless, and perfectly protective and devoted. The arcs in this series were long enough to feel believable and not just jammed together for the outcomes. I know when I'm ruminating after a story that it's been a great read. Only criticism is that the end was a little short after a 5 book adventure but it still wrapped things up nicely.

Locked in a dungeon, Tera has men on her mind. The crown prince of her country. The three she just killed. Unless she can trust the prince of the enemy, who promised they're still waiting for her, sleeping beauty style. And a masked crusader that could be any of them? She needs to escape so she can save them. And if rumors are true she might need to save the world as well...

I’m so sad to say goodbye to these characters. May has done an amazing job not just telling a story that was nearly impossible to tell, but making me fall in love with these characters. Even though I expect a HEA, I never know how they’re going to get there. This final book in the series was amazing and everything I needed. Another series by this author that will be read time and time again.

The True and Crown Series

So much angst and self doubt. Good story telling. Characters were solid and fun. Danger and espionage abounds. The HEA could have been more detailed but I liked the stories.

Definitely worth it

I was really heart shattered at the end of book 4, but had faith everything would work out. This story gave me so much to feel. Seeing the difference in Tera from Book 1 to this book is amazing. Definitely a universe I would revisit.

This is the second series I’ve read by the author. I like the characters, the plot, but in both series I’ve found the last book to be lacking. It’s missing wrap up details for some issues the characters were having and instead, everything is just fine.

EPIC ENDING!!!

Ok, it was so far away from what I expected, but that's always for the best. Emotions ran super high for me throughout this series. I loved it all. I believe that everyone should read this series.

Fantastic

It has an amazing story line. I love the characters and what each one brings to the table. I of course quite enjoy the hot and steamy scenes. Their love and acceptance of and for each other really shows the kind of perception the real world could really look into...

Fantasy RH

Amazing series! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series. It’s a fantasy RH with lots of magic and adventure. Well written, slow burn with a HEA at the end.

This is an absolutely brilliant series perfect for binge reading!!!
The storey from book 1-5 takes you on a roller coaster of emotions and at the end of book for you are left on a cliff edge that was absolutely horrid so book 5 was a welcome relief.
I love how the Fox turns out and really didn’t see it coming until the unmasking I book 4 when it made sense so I was expecting the eventual outcome but very happy with how it was done -The twist and turns throughout this book turn it from a normal read to a delight.
The ending is also Epic and perfectly suits the storey, so you won’t be at all disappointed.
One of the best series of this genre in 2019 and May Dawson as a writer continues to grow, building depth into her stories that draw you in and full immerse you in the world that she has created alongside some fabulous characters, so I can’t wait to see how her next few series develop.

5 kinds of amazing

I read book 1 ages ago under its original title and when it was the only one so you can imagine my happiness to find it had been edited and re-titled and released along with the rest of the series. From book one all the way to the last full stop in book 5, it’s been a roller coaster of a ride, lies, deceit, deception, love and many strong friendships between Tera, her ‘boys’ and her friends who stand beside her. Finding the truth about her father - alert, have tissues - to the penultimate ending. Amazing story from an amazing lady. You won’t regret choosing to read this series.

I was not ready for this book as I am definitely not ready to say goodbye to these characters that I have grown to love. This book hits you in all the feels, you have the angst of separation and the not knowing what will happen to certain characters. The love that is expressed between them. The surprise of twists and turns that you do not see coming, and the satisfaction of knowing that these characters had an excellent ending to their story. I hope that at some point this author decides to return to the land of Avalon, but this was an excellent ending to a great series.

Great ending

A great ending to a wonderful series. The worlds building is awesome and well detailed, the intrigue and political turmoil felt quite real. The characters are really good, and grow change and make mistakes like real people. The only thing that feels not overly developed is the magic, which is almost non-existent in the first few books and is not explained much at all.

Really good series but I felt disappointed with how it ended. I was pleasantly surprised by how Tera's, ah, issue was solved but in terms of harem forming and everone accepting everyone it felt too rushed. I expected more angst and tension whereas all I got was neat HEA. The author definitely could do better.

Beautiful ending

I wasn’t ready for this story to end but I am so happy with how it ended. Devlin’s development is probably what blew me away the most. A wonderful, beautiful story that I will revisit often.
