Eye of the Storm by Alyssa Day
5th book in the Tiger Eye paranormal mystery series. Best read as part of the series for the full background of all the various characters.
Jack and Tess work to solve anther mysterious event in Dead End, Florida.
Humorous cozy mystery. Jack and Tess grow a little closer in an attempted date, but I wouldn’t yet classify it as romance. Hurricane Elvis continues the use of puns that was huge in the prior book.
The printed copy I read had quite a few editing and text errors. I purchased the paperback the first week it was released. Hopefully they have been fixed since then.

Hilarious! The hurricane name is Elvis which provides fodder for many Elvis jokes. Some groaners and some made me laugh out loud. Tess and Jack's first date has arrived and romance is ramping up including a fantastic kiss just before the action begins. Of course. Lots of action, fun and humour. Now I can hardly wait to read about Christmas in Dead End.

The story opens with the long-anticipated date between main characters Jack and Tess. But of course before they get in the car, an emergency pops up - Tess’s shop, along with other businesses, were robbed and vandalized. With Jack off helping the police, Tess goes with her new vampire neighbor, Carlos, to his club for support. But when she’s there, she sees a dangerous vampire with an item taken from her shop. Once again, Tess may be in danger, but she’s on the case, determined to solve the crime.
Eye of the Storm is another entertaining tale in the Tiger’s Eye Mysteries. Set in Dead End, FL, where all sorts of crazy just seems to happen, the books feature Tess Callahan (part banshee) and Jack Shepard (war hero and tiger shifter). The books are quick, fun mysteries with a paranormal twist. Eye of the Storm is one of the best yet. The mystery is solid and the whole book progresses and flows from beginning to end.
I love the ongoing development of Jack and Tess as a couple. Tess is finally dealing with her emotions, not running from the idea of “them.” Even though they don’t get that date, they do kiss and act like being a couple is inevitable. And while Tess nearly did something that would put her in the “too stupid to live” category, the situation was corrected with a phone call. I liked the mystery and climatic scene, but I don’t understand why Tess must keep the reveal a secret from other characters. I understand the author wants to keep readers in suspense, but it makes no sense for Tess not to explain to Jack what she’s figured out, nor does it seem plausible that Jack would blindly go someplace that may put Tess in danger.
In then end, I’m really enjoying my time in Dead End. Tess is a delightful heroine, and I love watching her grow from book to book.

Eye of the Storm is filled with Elvis puns, vampires, vandalism and Aunt Ruby running for mayor in Dead End. Poor Tess and Jack can't get a break as their first date is stopped before they can even leave Tess' house. A fun mystery and I'm waiting patiently for my library to get the next one in the series.

Well... it was short. Also about what I expected. Tess actually had a date planned but you know, one thing after another...
Was a bit confused - who was the dead vampire, and who did the foot belong to? Also, where does Susan's ex figure into this? Did I miss something?

Eye of the Storm: Tiger's Eye Mysteries by Alyssa Day is laugh out loud funny. With Elvis puns, a sexy red dress an interrupted date and bad guys that you want to return to sender this book will have you giggle-snorting and flipping pages.

Fifth in the Tiger's Eye Mystery paranormal romance, cozy mystery series revolving around a sweet pawnshop owner with a psychometric gift based in a small town in Florida.
My Take
Tiger. Red dress. CPR. Yep. Day pulled me right in. I couldn’t wait to find out how those three things went together.
It’s a first person protagonist point-of-view from Tess’ perspective, so we learn everything through her.
Hurricane Elvis has a lot to answer for — inspiring all those Elvis song puns, lol. I do enjoy reading the Tiger’s Eye Mystery series, if only for its coziness and all the laughs. Another reason I love the Tiger's Eye Mystery series is how supportive the primary characters are of each other. The love between Tess and her aunt and uncle, although there are the conflicts of a woman who wants to be seen as a grownup. As for that Aunt Ruby, she’s a pistol in this one, lol.
It’s an interesting concept, a town where their laws supersede those of Florida and the US. It’s not to say the citizens don’t go along with ‘em, but there are those situations that provide leeway. Dead Enders have known about the supernatural forever and they're welcome in their town. Yep, did I mention supportive?
Jack. Oh, yeah, Jack. I wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eating crackers *grin*.
An easy fun read with plenty of action and a wide range of characters in this quirky little town.

The psychometric Tess Callahan inherited Jeremiah’s pawn shop, Dead End Pawn. Uncle Mike and Aunt Ruby Callahan raised Tess since she was three on their farm. The rescued nine-year-old Shelley is a recent addition to the family ( Dead Eye , 1). Bonnie Jo is their very old horse. Eleanor Wolf is Tess’s valuable employee.
Jack Shepherd, a tiger shifter and a former soldier in the rebellion ( Heart of Atlantis , 8), is Jeremiah’s gorgeous nephew, who inherited Jeremiah’s PI firm, Tiger's Eye Investigations.
Dead End, Florida, is . . .
. . . a very small backwater town that’s been in existence forever with its own rules. Emeril and Harold Peterson, brothers, own Dead End Hardware. Mellie runs the bakery — Dallas Fox likes her. Lauren’s Deli. Lorraine is a waitress at Beau’s — the only place in town to grab a bite to eat — for some fifty years. She was also the mayor once.
Susan Gonzalez is the sheriff. Stephen is Susan’s ex and the vampire who turned Carlos when he came to rescue her. Deputies include Andrew Kelly and the offensive Baker. Special Agent Alejandro Vasquez is with the FBI's Paranormal Operations (P-Ops) division.
Molly, the front woman for a popular band, is Tess’ best friend who’s dating Lucky Tremaine. Ronald Ratbottom, an insurance sales agent, is the sleazy, handsy mayor — according to Lorraine, that’s all he has going for him. The Wizkowskis like to summer in Canada. Dave Wolf is Eleanor’s son who runs a construction business. He’s also Jack’s best friend. Zane is Dave’s adopted son. Mrs Quindlen handles her walker like a pro. Rooster Jenkins captures gators; the stuffed Fluffy is now Dead End Pawn’s mascot.
The Fox brothers, Austin and Dallas; Lucky Tremaine; and, some others are all former military dealing with PTSD who operate an airboat business, Swamp Commando Airboat Rides, in the swamp. Buddy is a teenager hired to help out. Laurie Raab-Hunsaker (the Raabs claims they have Fae in their ancestry while the Hunsakers have a weird fixation on Disney World). Mrs Frost. Mr Washington, a snake shifter, had been Tess’ chemistry teacher in high school. Larry runs Dead End Towing.
Carlos Gonzalez, Susan’s brother, is Tess’ new vampire neighbor who owns a vampire club — Bram’s. Ivan, who claims to be an old friend of Carlos’, and Trinity are some of the attendees. Mrs Gonzalez is Susan's and Carlos’ grandmother. Nico is Mrs Gonzalez’s deceased husband — who’s visiting her at night.
Hurricane Elvis is on its way. Daniel is a famous vampire with whom Jack had worked in Heart of Atlantis .

Hurricane Elvis is headed toward Dead End, Florida, and the townspeople are handling it the way most Floridians would - with lots of bad Elvis puns. It's funny, and I laughed out loud a lot. I found the plot to be significantly underdeveloped, even when compared to the other books of the series, making this one my least favorite of the series so far. So much of the actions of the characters and how significant plot points are resolved didn't work for me. It's still fun in a sort of cozy urban fantasy mystery sort of way. I'll definitely plow through the rest of the series at some point. This one, though, prompts me to take a break from the Dead End hijinks for a while.

Another fun Tiger’s Eye Mystery, with Hurricane Elvis approaching, the Elvis song puns are flying as Tess and Jack deal with break-ins at several businesses in town, including Dead End Pawn, a dead body, threatening vampires, and an alligator showing up where he doesn’t belong. When they figure out what’s going on, it all makes sense. I enjoyed this story as usual and I love the progression of Tess and Jack’s romance and all the quirky characters in the little Florida town.

Most people probably like the Elvis references, but I got bored by it, after awhile. Her Aunt Ruby runs for mayor. I like her funny campaign slogans.

I love all the Elvis references through the story. Finally, Tess and Jack are going on their date. Not! Just as they are ready to leave, they get a call that Tess's shop has been burglarized. Tess's place isn't the only one. They know a vampire did it, but who is it and where is he? So many things going on and Tess and Jack need to find the person immediately. A fun adventure.

I have waited so long for this series to be offered on Kindle unlimited. I got the first

Crime doesn't pay
Dead End has a crime spree & for this town that's unheard of. Jack has to put aside his natural prejudice against vampires & Tess uses her wits to figure out who brought trouble to town. These two are ready to explore the next steps to their relationship... OR are they.

Loving the series
Poor Tess.
One mischief and mayhem after another.
Small, sleepy towns are not sleepy, especially when inhabited by the supernatural.

This was a great story! It has a little romance, a bit of danger, a big mystery, and a host of awful puns! It’s a pretty quick read and it made me laugh! All of Alyssa Day’s books are good, but I really love Tess and Jack and the people of Dead End!

super fun read
I love loved this addition to the TigerEye series. With hurricane Elvis on the way there are so many fun Elvis puns. When someone breaks into Tess’s shop and leaves a bloody foot she and Jack set out to find the culprit.

So far so good
I've just finished books 1-5. I never laughed so hard. I'm a sucker for puns lo be the flow of your writing. It's very engaging. I feel like I would like to live there, being from Tampa. Thanks for the tales Aly More zips to come.

Someone has it in for the town
Tess and Jack are trying to get that first date going but things just keep interfering. Who’s causing all the robberies and break ins and why. Tess and Jack are on the trail and it’s not who they thought it was. A great story.

I wounder what it would be like with the knowledge that Shifters and Vampires are REAL? I like this new world. I do think that I would NOT be out at night though. Not without a protector that is. Good story but I was not surprised by the ending. Although I did not suspect who it was.

Elvis has left the building!
Loved the Hurricane Elvis shenanigans. And I have to say that Mayor Ratbottom seems to have been very well named. These characters just jump right off the page and they get better and better with every story.

Great series
I love the characters in this series and I really enjoy the sense of humor they have. The storylines hold my interest from beginning to end and make me look forward to the next book.

I still enjoyed the story I just wish it was longer! There was some grammar mistakes and there were some parts that actually had me laughing!😄
