"Gualicho takes a bite out of the ornithopod’s back as it runs away from her, causing it to stumble and fall. She jumps on top of the body and rips open its neck with her teeth. The ornithopod becomes still and limp.

Satisfied, Gualicho begins to feast. But, after only two bites, she senses something is wrong. She lifts her head and sees a Mapusaurus making its way toward her."

Blending fiction with fact, 50 Dinosaur Tales imagines the way 50 newly described dinosaurs from the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous lived in their natural habitats.

Also included is a list of fun facts for each dinosaur story, and facts about 108 additional dinosaurs.

If you want to hear more about new dinosaurs as soon as they are discovered, listen to the weekly podcast I Know Dino.

Review from SPR:
"50 Dinosaur Tales: And 108 More Discoveries From the Golden Age of Dinos is the perfect blend of education and entertainment, as both young and old readers are invited to see the world through a very different set of eyes. Authors Sabrina Ricci and Garret Kruger bring to life some lesser-known dinosaurs from Earth’s prehistory, weaving unique facts into simple stories. At times, this book reads like Aesop’s Fables, if they had been set in the Mesozoic Era, while the post-story bullet points and reference materials give the book significant authority and impact."

4☆ A wonderful Fun and Informative Book about Dinosaurs.

50 Dinosaur Tales is a fun and Informative Book about all kinds of Dinosaurs old and newly discovered.

Not only are there wonderfully short stories about several of the dinosaurs, there is also a fabulous illustration of most of the dinosaurs. To give the reader a glimpse into what the dinosaur would of looked like.
I also loved learning all the fun facts throughout this book.

Ricci gives detailed descriptions of all of the dinosaurs, including what they look like, how they move, what they eat, their interactions and facts about them.

Admittedly I don't know much about dinosaurs but this certainly was an eye opener.
It really is the PERFECT Book for dinosaur enthusiast.

My only slight concern was the pronunciation of alot of the words. If I don't have a clue how to say them or read them how are younger readers meant to?
I do understand however that the enthusiasts will have no problem what's so ever learning/reading and Educating these words to others.

Overall a fascinating book of short stories, aimed to educate and wow young and old readers alike on the mystical and Captivating discoveries on Dinosaurs!

Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This book is organized in sections, one for each continent, with stories and facts about a selection of the dinosaurs found on that continent. Each section contains several brief stories about a probable typical day in the life of a member of that species of dinosaur, based on what we know about it and its environment, followed by basic facts about that type of dinosaur. After several such stories plus facts, each section has several "just the facts" summaries about additional dinosaurs from that continent.

I think I am not the intended audience for this book. With the title, I was expecting mostly narrative story-telling, and whether it was narrative accounts of what we think we know about the dinosaurs, or narrative accounts of the scientists and expeditions that discovered the dinosaurs, didn't really concern me. Either can be extremely interesting. Instead, while there are narrative, unavoidably somewhat speculative but well-grounded in known facts, stories about the dinosaurs, they're fundamentally just brief intros to the recitation of facts about those dinosaurs. There are no real accounts of the discovery and identification of these dinosaurs, and mentions of the people who did the discovering is largely limited to explaining the genus and species names.

I think the target audience has more in-depth knowledge of dinosaurs, including the terminology. I know some of the terminology, but only some, and there were a lot of terms used casually here that I needed to resort to a dictionary for. This was not occasional terms; it was true of most of the "facts about this dinosaur" segments. There is clearly an assumption that the reader has more than just the average educated adult's knowledge of dinosaurs.

People, possibly, who listen to Sabrinia Ricci and Garret Kruger's podcast, I Know Dino.

Which, I have to say, looks really promising for someone who wants to make an in-depth dive into dinosaur knowledge.

Please don't mistake what I'm saying for a criticism of the book. Even the very best book isn't for everyone, and I'm just not the target audience for this one. The stories that are here are well-written and interesting, and there are other subjects where I'd find those "just the facts" sections to be efficient and useful. So if you might be the intended audience for this book, please check it out, and also their podcast, linked above. There are people for whom this book is going to be both delightful and helpful.

So, if you're really into dinosaurs, highly recommended. Just don't let the title fool you into thinking this is the book to hand to your six-year-old who loves dinosaurs.

I received a free electronic galley of this book from the publisher, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

If you are a dinosaur enthusiast then this is the book for you! I grew up reading as much as I could about dinosaurs, watched all things dinosaurs, had dinosaur toys and absolutely loved (and still love) all things Jurassic Park! I even wanted to become a paleontologist for a while as I was growing up.

50 Dinosaur Tales is written by Sabrina Ricci who also has a weekly podcast with her husband Garret called I Know Dino. In 50 Dinosaur Tales, we learn all about the dinosaurs that were recently discovered in the last few years. The dinosaurs were sorted by continent (which is easier said than done as the continents have moved from their original locations).

There are 50 short stories about various dinosaurs and the stories chronicle ‘everyday life’ of these animals, blending fiction with facts. The stories even show the dinosaurs interacting with each other. There are also some facts mentioned for these dinosaurs after the stories. If you want to learn more about these creatures and are reading an e-copy of the book, there are links to the podcasts you can go to learn about the dinosaurs and a list of resources if you want to look into the information yourself.

The short stories would be perfect for younger kids wanting to learn about dinos, but the rest of the information may possibly become tedious for those younger readers. There is also a picture that accompanies the short stories.

There are a wide variety of dinosaurs presented and you will learn about them! There is no way I am going to even attempt to pronounce the names of these creatures as it would be impossible! And OMG, there is a dinosaur called Thanos (Thanos simonattoi) who is referencing a particular villain… If you know your Marvel characters, then you know who I’m talking about.

Everyone has a favorite dinosaur and my favorites tend to be the carnivores. As you read, maybe you will discover a new favorite that is lesser known.

Thank you to Ms. Ricci for bringing us her knowledge and love of dinosaurs to the page!

I’ve been enjoying time slip and time travel books lately, and I would say a book about dinosaurs qualifies as a step back in time- back to the Mesozoic Era, between 200 plus and 65 MILLION years ago. This book by author Sabrina Ricci makes facts about dinosaurs approachable and readable.

Fifty dinosaurs are featured in special stories, which are like “A day in the life of a dinosaur”. Readers are treated to pleasant and easy to understand tales about the locale and type of creature. All types of new dinosaurs are featured- big and small, plant or meat-eater, even bird-like types. We learn how they find food and friends, what scares them and what makes them happy. Each segment includes an eye-catching photograph, and a fact sheet which tells where the dinosaur remains were found, and unique features about it. Readers can find out more about the particular dinosaur by listening to the podcast, a link is provided.

Fossils of dinosaurs have now been found on every continent, and this book lists a dinosaur fossil found in Antarctica. I especially liked the stories of some of the bird-like dinosaurs, how they loved to fly and watch their world go by. Facts are also provided for over 100 additional dinosaurs. I read this book on my big-screen computer and it really brought these amazing creatures to life.

According to her Amazon biography, Sabrina Ricci is one half of the weekly dinosaur podcast, I Know Dino (iknowdino.com). She and her husband love dinosaurs so much, they had a dinosaur-themed wedding and then started the podcast. This book is a good addition to their world of dinosaurs, something to read and re-read for knowledge, pleasure and reference.

Thanks to the author and Rachel’s Random Resources for a digital review copy. This is my honest review.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a review. The book is a series of fact profiles for new dinosaurs described between 2014 and 2018, with 50 of the dinosaurs also getting short stories of them going about their business in their natural environment, be it eating, mating or playing. These stories are an effective way of teaching the reader about these animals; they are varied enough to never feel repetitive, and incorporate what evidence is available from fossils (e.g. injuries to the bones). I particularly liked the stories that involved different species of dinosaur interacting with each other in ways other than predation, though there is some anthropomorphising here and there which doesn't feel quite as realistic. The sections with dinosaur profiles that aren't accompanied by stories are still interesting, but naturally not so engaging. Thanks to the wide variety of featured dinosaurs who haven't had time to appear in other books yet, anyone interested in the subject is likely to find something new and fascinating here.

Who doesn’t love Dinosaurs? I know I do, so when the opportunity to read 50 Dinosaur Tales presented itself, I didn’t hesitate. I’m so glad I read this. It is such a unique book, blending fact and fiction to make a really fascinating collection of tales!

I love the the stories of what certain dinosaurs were doing at certain points. It was really fun to be transported back to the Dino age and read about familiar and unfamiliar dinosaurs. I loved the facts that were included too. It is so fun to read a fictional story and then learn about the facts along the way.

I think this book would be great for all ages. Anyone who loves Dinosaurs and wants to learn about them can get something from this book! It’s fascinating and well-written.

I definitely recommend checking this out! It’s such a fun read and I learned a lot of new facts.

A Creative spin on delivering dinosaur facts.

As a dinosaur enthusiast it is nice to read a book that take a fictional spin on delivering the facts about the newest dinosaur discoveries. There are 50 fictional pieces created for dinosaur discoveries over the years, as well as links on where to find out more information. The links to the papers and articles is included at the end of the book if you want to dive into more scientific detail as well.

It was a quick lighthearted read and is suitable for children and adults alike. The author took time to create a detailed landscape for the dinosaur “characters” in each of the short fiction tales” And you can tell that research and attention to detail were evident in the stories and fact sheets on the dinosaurs.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking to get a little more than dry basic facts and tables about dinosaurs.

I thought Sabrina Ricci’s 50 Dinosaur Tales was a good read. I enjoyed learning more about some new dinosaurs discovered over the last few years. Each dinosaur featured comes with a story and scientific facts about them. There are some wonderful pictures and colorful illustrations accompanied them, as well. I found it interesting to see what new discoveries from around the globe. The back of the book has about forty pages of resources that readers can use to learn more about these dinosaurs. And there is an easy to use index to quickly find a certain one featured in the book.
I would highly recommend 50 Dinosaur Tales to dinosaur enthusiasts – young and old. My seven year old son and I loved it! I am giving it a well deserved five plus stars.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

My son is huge dinosaur fan so we couldn’t resist reviewing this book. It is a fantastic read as well as a great learning resource.

The author has used her extensive knowledge of dinosaurs to create scenarios of their daily lives, millions of years ago. This combined with the facts in the book makes it a great read. You aren’t just presented with a lot of facts, the author makes the dinosaurs come to live in their habitats. Although they are stories it helps to painter a broader picture of them rather than what we usually see in dinosaur books.

There are lots of dinosaur fact books but this is a fresh approach to the subject and we both thoroughly enjoyed the book. My son now uses it on his own to read up on the dinosaurs to expand his knowledge.

This was a lovely book blending both a fictional story about dinosaurs while using facts about them to teach the subject.

I'd love to see more of these stories in smaller editions which would maybe make them more appealing to not just adults but to a younger audience.
