'Do not, under any circumstances, try to be cooler than you are.'

Preaching to teenagers can be a terrifying prospect. Tom French, an experienced youth communicator, will give you everything you need to craft Bible talks that engage and challenge young people while pointing them to the love of God in Jesus. This fun, readable, and incredibly practical step-by-step guide for writing and giving Bible talks is the ideal book for new youth leaders just getting started, youth pastors looking for a refresher, or old hands wanting to know how to speak to young people. Talks That Don’t Suck will help you ensure your talks aren’t terrible –and who knows, they may even be amazing!

This is a super basic book. Its not that the information is bad, but it is just so basic. If you have never given any talks, or sermons, or anything, and not done any theological or homiletical study or research, this will be helpful. Otherwise, nothing new.

The book was full of essential, helpful reminders to craft thoughtful and engaging youth talks. This point made me giggle: "Don’t. Do not, under any circumstances, try to be cooler than you are." "The truth is, teenagers don’t need you to be cool. They don’t need you to be like them. They just need you to care."

A bit more crude and gritty than other books but still very useful and very practical, from someone who definitely knows what he's talking about

A very good primer for someone learning how to preach. It's perfect audience is probably a youth leader who's just started, or is wanting to start preaching, but it would be genuinely very helpful for anyone starting out anywhere.
