All Jacob wanted was a romantic weekend in Paris with his girlfriend. But when he spots terrorists bent on attacking a crowded church, he flies into action. The victims mistake him for one of the extremists causing the authorities to give him a choice: go undercover to expose neo-Nazi fanatics — or jail.
Jacob infiltrates an international conference for violent radicals in rural Spain. Far from home and cut off from his support team, he must navigate the dangerous waters alone. In the shadowy leadership of the fringe group, he learns no one is who they seem. And trusting the wrong person for even a second could be fatal.
The sinister plot Jacob uncovers is far worse than anyone imagined. It threatens the lives of thousands and may explode into global chaos. He must trust someone to get word to law enforcement but a chess game of lies and deception undermines his credibility. How can he outsmart the malicious conspirators before the world erupts into war?
On a rainy day when I was ten, I was transported to eighteenth century England where I met Captain Billy Bones, heard the tapping of Blind Pew’s cane, and witnessed the treachery of Long John Silver. When I closed the cover of Treasure Island, I thought to myself: When I make stuff up, I get in trouble. I need to become a writer.
Which was the career I planned on pursuing. Planned on …
At 17, I was homeless, wandering from one minimum wage job to another. At 19, I found purpose in life when I adopted a 3-year-old girl and raised her (she’s 51 now and lives across town). Children need a lot of things that cost money, so I shelved the writing idea and pursued a career in technology, selling products and services to Fortune 500 company executives.
Along the way, I met and married the love of my life. We added two children (now grown and living in LA and NYC) and carved out a life. When I’d made all the gold I could eat, I returned my focus to the career I’d always wanted: writing adventures filled with thrills and mysteries.
My beloved wife passed unexpectedly in early 2024. Now, I spend my time talking to my imaginary friends and hiking a small mountain in my hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona. I hope you enjoy the Sabel Security Series, and the characters of Jacob Stearne and Pia Sabel. As of this writing, there are sixteen novels completed and two more in my head. I plan to keep writing them until my mortal ink dries up.

DEATH AND CONSPIRACY: A Jacob Stearne Thriller by Seeley James is a fast-paced, action packed thriller. Although this is the seventh book in the Sabel Security series, it can be easily read as a standalone. Each book contains continuing characters arcs, but the plot is unique.
Jacob Stearne is taking time off after his last mission for a romantic weekend in Paris with his girlfriend. As he waits in a bistro, Mercury (the Roman god is a figment of Jacob’s imagination and/or a manifestation of his battle-hardened combat sense) points out two possible terrorists about to enter a crowded cathedral. Jacob flies into action, but the eyewitnesses and the video of his heroic act, can be misinterpreted and some are accusing him of being one of the terrorists.
The French authorities and the CIA use the misunderstanding to leverage Jacob into helping them infiltrate an international conference of neo-Nazi fanatics to help uncover the next big attack. As he gets deeper into the group, he can trust no one, but at the same time he undermines his own credibility.
Can Jacob survive and stop the terrorists before thousands die and the world erupts into chaos?
This is such a roller-coaster-ride of a thriller! Mr. James has written a serious and topical thriller plot with great characters and lots of action, but he also has interspersed humor with the internal dialogues between Jacob and Mercury. I found it difficult to put this book down because of all the twists and turns.
I always feel like I should be watching these books on TV or at the movies instead of reading them. Thrills, terrorists, quirky characters and fast-moving plots make me a very happy Sabel Security series reader every time!
This is my experience of reading the Sabel Security Series and first time reading the work of author Seeley James. I went into the book with a fresh perspective and with no other expectation than hours of reading entertainment.
Jacob Stearne, our protagonist, is in Paris for a vacation with his girlfriend. He (not) unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dark conspiracy involving Neo-Nazi fanatics when he tries to stop a terrorist attack in a church. What follows is a lot of undercover action on the part of Jacob, to uncover the next big attack planned by the fanatics. But as things start to clear up, it actually gets more difficult to understand who he can trust. Navigating the fringe group and uncovering the truth could be more than Jacob bargained for… And will he be able to stop the next attack before it’s too late?
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! Another well-written novel by Seeley James. After stopping a terrorist attack Jacob Stearne finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy and the authorities want to believe he is the terrorist. With the help of his friends Miguel and Tiana he must find a way to make people believe he is trying to stop the terrorists from attacking multiple targets. Of course he also has the help of the Roman god, Mercury, who only Jacob can see and hear! I love Seeley James novels and this one was a real thrill ride from beginning to end. I would definitely suggest this as a great read to everyone, not just those who love suspense and intrigue!
This book absolutely fulfilled my expectations for a Seeley James action thriller. The constant action kept my attention, kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me reading to see what would happen next. The dialogue was believable as was the interaction between characters. There were so many twists and turns but kept this book exciting and fresh. This author always comes through with characters that are so believable and each has his or her own quirks throughout the book. I always look forward to reading one of these books in the series because it keeps my attention so well. The action, situations and excitement throughout the book and plot make this a hard to put down book. I love Jacobs’s interacting with Mercury and the way he isn’t quite sure whether he is crazy and Mercury is really just a figment of his imagination or is he really a god of Roman times come to help him. Anyway you look at it this book is a great read and will keep you on the edge of your seat or staying up late just to see what happens next.
Death And Conspiracy - a review by Rosemary Kenny.
Seeley James really has a magic touch when writing about MC Jacob Stearne and his team at Sabel Security, that's led by the lovely Pia Sabel. Jacob also enjoys a riotous relationship with his ghostly advisor Mercury, who may be real - or all in Jacob's mind. All the characters are well-developed and very engaging, while the plotline would be great for the next James Bond or Mission Impossible movie. It focuses on the very real danger posed by terrorist organisations, (in this case Neo-Nazis, with a fanatical mission to eliminate all rival religions) worldwide.
Why not try Death and Conspiracy for yourself - you're guaranteed to be gripped firmly by the imagination until the very last page!
I received an ARC from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. In this, the 7th Sabel Security book, Mr. James is taking a detour into the thriller genre, and boy has he hit the ground running! Since Jacob and his awesome sidekick, Mercury are two of my favorite characters in all literature, I was thrilled (see what I did there?) to find them in another "fine mess". As with the previous six Sabel books, there is plenty of action, suspense, and twists and turns. At times I felt like a had fallen into a whirlpool (which isn't always a bad thing!). I really enjoy an author who keeps me on my toes and guessing who the "bad guy" is, and once again, Mr. James fits the bill. With his books I always find myself going from breath-holding tension to laugh out loud sarcasm and since sarcastic humor is my favorite kind, I'm always in hog heaven with these books. I can't wait for the next installment in the series to make its appearance. If you haven't picked up this series yet, you really need to. You are missing out in a big way!!!
His new personal relationship that he had high hope for hits the buffers early on when he is dumped whilst on a trip to a lovely hotel in Paris, paid for by Pia. His girlfriend has some major issues to cope in the aftermath of the significant she had to endure and she doesn’t want to drag him down with her. Jacob doesn’t want to give up on her but events overtake him as he stops a terrorist attack purely by just being nearby and spotting the danger. He is then dragged into training a whacko group of radicals to spot terrorists.
Obviously things aren’t quite as straight forward as that as the group are even more whacko than appeared initially. He, Miguel and Tania end up chasing around trying to stop some real threats of horrendous terrorist attacks.
Clever story with lots of strands to it, although the way people are manipulated might be a bit beyond belief - or maybe not!
I’ve read seven books in the series now and either I’m getting a bit tired of it or the stories are wearing a bit thin. As I have a good number left to read in the series I think I need a bit of a rest before returning otherwise I fear I will stop enjoying them. I think my advice is don’t read too many back to back like I have, although the fact I have done so indicates the pulling power of the stories.
This was the best one of the series. Mr. James really does a good job of keeping the reader on the edge. For awhile I really didn't think it was going to turn out well for our hero. But in the end everything comes together nicely. It was brilliant! Up until last month, I didn't even know who Seeley James was, now, I can't wait for the next book.
"Heroes aren't made. They rise up out of the dust when needed and return to it when the danger passes."
What a fabulous story! Death and Conspiracy by Seeley James is a rock-solid, tension-filled ride that is completely entertaining all the way through. Jacob Stearne's girlfriend has left him during their romantic Paris getaway, but that is the least of his worries. When this ex Army Ranger takes down two terrorists in a church in Paris, the action kicks into high gear and never stops until the highly explosive ending that will leave you craving more.
Jacob is an unusual protagonist because his constant companion happens to be Mercury, the winged messenger of the Roman gods, who may or may not be a figment of Jacob's imagination. Either way, Jacob is both blessed and tormented by this jive-talking, used-up deity who is either helping Jacob in times of trouble or betting with the other gods that Jacob won't survive this next dangerous caper. While Mercury often steals the show, Jacob is not without his charms. He is quick witted and lands on his feet (most of the time), but he is also delightfully flawed.
Some of the plot points might become confusing, but don't despair. The author brings everything together brilliantly and with a great deal of flair. Seeley James also expertly balances the serious with the humorous. The interaction between Jacob and Mercury lends a bit of comic relief to the serious and quite disturbing plot of racism, terrorism, and white supremacy that is too realistic for comfort. But Jacob and his team of both real people and an imaginary (maybe) god are on the case, and together they are all courageous, audacious, diverse, and wholly entertaining.
Seeley James knows how to spin a tale using well-crafted prose, perfect pacing, and gifted characterization. You will definitely have difficulty putting down Death and Conspiracy, and if you haven't already, you will probably want to get busy reading the rest of this author's books. His writing is outstanding, well edited, and absolutely riveting.
If you like faced-paced international intrigue, magnetic characters, and an engrossing story line that makes you ponder humankind's unbelievable capacity for evil as well as its capacity for heroism, then Death and Conspiracy needs to be next on your to-read list.
I received a free copy of this book from Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first adventure into the world of Jacob Stearne and it was exciting. The novel has a bit of a twist on the one man saves the world idea. He has a spent god, Mercury, for a side kick. That added some humor but I also think it detracted from the hero's mystique. Mercury frequently gives Jacob information he could not know on his own. I would have been more impressed with Jacob if he had battled forces with just his own super abilities. He also has the aid of the well resourced security firm he works for. You know, a firm that seems to have unlimited financial resources, can hack into any surveillance system, etc. That is more common to novels of international suspense.
I think the strength of this novel was the exploration of extreme white supremacist philosophy and the terror they want to inflict on the world.
This is a good novel for readers who enjoy suspenseful international intrigue. There are many deceptive characters frequently fooling our hero. There are many dangerous situations where Jacob could face his last nemesis. Potential readers who are Christians or faithful to another religion may be offended by the critical comments of the god Mercury toward them. Otherwise a good novel of international suspense.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Death and Conspiracy is a wild roller coaster ride!
Jacob Stearne is a bit of a bumbling badass. He’s tough, a little crazy, easily distracted by a love interest, irreverent, smart, and impatient. He’s the kind of hero who feels both superhuman and humanly flawed, and I really enjoyed spending time with him.
My absolute favorite aspect of the story was Mercury, the Roman God who’s (probably) a figment of Jacob’s imagination. The banter between the two of them provides humorous relief from an otherwise intense story.
Pacing is quick, and the plot is complex without being convoluted. Details surrounding the extremist groups have a strong dose of realism and, for the most part, I could see this story playing out in today’s world. The action, at times, is a little over the top, in the way of many political thrillers where the hero and his secret group are the only ones who can save the day. Then again, I’m not sure I’d want to see the reality of a bunch of countries’ governments trying to work together to accomplish anything.
I was hesitant about joining the tour for this book because it’s the seventh in a series, and I haven’t read any of the others. But I was pleasantly surprised to find it reads perfectly as a stand-alone.

Jacob Steame, a guy guy whose moral compass points true North but talks to the Roman god Mars. While taking a vacation with his girlfriend Jenny, Jacob is tapped by his boss Liz Sabel to help take down a suspected racist terrorist group believed to be planning a major attack. Not all is what it appears. He's being framed for several attacks in Europe and Morrocco in an attempt to stop him and force him to help the terrorists and save Jenny. The outcome will amaze you as well as leave you doubting your safety
The first novel I read by Seeley James. I had to get used to Jacob and his sidekick Mercury, a roman god living in Jacob's mind (is he really), who adds a bit of magic to the action. This is a very timely novel regarding all the racial hate-crimes going on in this world these days, which are quite often fueled by powerful politicians. And Jacob is no friend of those....
Poor Jacob. He’s always doubted and/or misunderstood. Does he really converse with the god, Mercury, or does he need to resume his medications??? Either way, his source of information is USUALLY spot on. As usual, this saga in the Sabel Security series is thrilling, humorous, and gives an unusual perspective to a timely topic. Can’t wait for the next book.....
An excellent action thriller with a well developed plot and believable characters. Plenty of action and lots of twists and turns. Another well written story by Seeley James that I would highly recommend.
Talks with his personal God. Sabel darts, fists and bullets flying. Conspiracy and intrigue around every corner. Like every Seeley James book I have read, I didn't want to put it down and I don't think you will, either. The plot could be from the news headlines...
Love Jacob and Mercury! The best buddy team since Will Smith and Martin Lawrence! Love how bad a$$ Jacob is, love the real military references and do or die attitude of the main characters! Loved it!
This kept me guessing . Jacob had me on the edge of my seat a few times. I believe this could happen with what is going on in this world. This was one great read.
I really enjoyed this latest installment by Seeley James. Loved the plot, the characters and the fast paved action. I have to put it on my "to be read again" list, to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Best one yet! Almost impossible to put down! Jacob and Mercury are in rare form! Constant action, adventure, and surprises while trying to stop a truly diabolical terrorist plot. Loved it!
As each book in this series comes out, the relationship between Jacob and Mercury gets more interesting. The plot development is great and it's an easy read.
