Winter storm Holly is the worst in eighty years bringing high winds, subzero temperatures and snowfall better measured in feet than in inches. The weather paralyzes everything in its path, but in this storm, weather isn’t the only threat.
A serial killer the press has dubbed the Christmas killer is taking lives…and he’s not finished yet.
All Special Agent Gia Franklin’s sister Carly wanted was for Gia to come home for Christmas.
But Gia avoids the holidays, using her job as an excuse to stay away. For weeks, she’s been tracking The Christmas Killer, a cold-hearted monster who strangles his victims and poses them with one of the Twelve Days of Christmas ornaments. With nine women dead, and only four days until Christmas, she must stop him before he kills again.
Then he makes the case personal by kidnapping Carly, and Gia must go home.
Aware she may be walking into a trap, she teams up with sexy, local Sheriff Murphy Malone to stop the madness, and save the holiday for her sister and the town.
But the clock is ticking.
And the CK has his own holiday plans – ornaments eleven and twelve belong to the Franklin sisters, and he won’t stop until they’re dead…
USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Rita Herron fell in love with books at the ripe age of eight when she read her first Trixie Belden mystery. But she didn’t think real people grew up to be writers, so she became a teacher instead. Now she writes so she doesn’t have to get a real job. With over ninety books to her credit, she’s penned romantic suspense, romantic comedy and YA novels, but she especially likes writing dark romantic suspense and crime fiction set in small southern towns. Thank you Debra Webb for the ARC of Wind Chill by Rita Herron that I read and reviewed on my own. This is the third stand alone novella in the Stormwatch series which it written by some of the best romantic suspense authors out there. This novella is the story of the Christmas Killer who kills women and puts an ornament around their wrist after he poses them from the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. Special Agent Gia Franklin is in the case and us using it to avoid going home for Christmas with her sister but the killer has different plans when he goes to her hometown and kidnaps her sister and plans for her Carly to be one of his victims. Gia now is forced to go home and work with the town sheriff and her former crush Murphy Malone and save her sister and stop her killer from making the sisters from being his last victims. This book was a very face paced excellent read. I loved the speed the book read and the story overall. Gia and Murphy as a team were great and I just loved this novella. An excellent read that I would recommend. Wind Chill gets five out of five stars from me.
A good FBI thriller with a hint of a romance developing between the H/h. (No steamy scenes etc, as it's slow burn throughout). The story is set during a winter storm, so lots of snow, suspense, red herrings, twists and action as they track a Christmas serial killer.
Thanks to Debra Webb for the ARC in exchange for an honest review...
As winter storm Holly continues to barrel to another state this time impeding the investigation into a serial killer who is using the ‘12 days of Christmas’ as his mantra, leaving his 9 victims to date with ornaments depicting this. He is dubbed the Christmas killer...CK. With days until Christmas the race is on.
When CK decides to hit close to home for Special Agent Gia Franklin...she must go home and save her sister from becoming one of his victims.
Wind Chill is the 3rd book in the Stormwatch Series, also my first book by Rita Herron. This book is quick read, and very well written. What do you do when super storm Holly is bearing down on your small town and you have a serial killer in your midst. Gia and Murphy are in a desperate search for Gia's younger sister whom has been taking by the serial killer as a way to get back at Gia. This book is action packed and filled with suspense and a touch of romance. I would certainly recommend this book to others. I wish there were half stars because this book deserves a 4.5 rating.
Ooh this was a good one! The continuation of Bomb Cyclone Holly terrorizing states during Christmas time. This story was centered around Agent Gia and her hunt to find the Christmas Killer. He gets too close to home when he kidnaps her sister causing her to go home. Fantastic story felling and nail biting suspense. Herron is one of the best suspense authors out there!
Ever since her mother's death three years ago, FBI Special Agent Gia Franklin doesn't do Christmas and doesn't visit her hometown in Nebraska to see her sister. This year, she has the perfect excuse with the serial killer, dubbed Christmas Killer, because of the time of year and the ornaments he lives with the bodies, on the loose.
But then the killer changes everything by going to Gia's town and kidnapping her sister. Gauntlet thrown, challenge accepted.
Again, I much preferred the suspense part than the "human" part of the story. The serial killer angle provided the requisite tension and danger, keeping the reader and characters guessing and wondering. The explanation for him turning out the way he did was plausible and him targeting Gia and her sister was definitely not out of the realm of possible.
I liked it, it kept the pages turning, and the brutal winter storm providing a desolate background also didn't hurt.
I didn't like the other stuff, though. Gia's constant moping and woe-to-me-ism about her not being there for her sister while it might already be too late, got old very soon, while the hero got the short end of the stick in the characterization department, making him appear cardboard-cut and bland, without much agency except standing by the heroine and pine. This imbalance nixed any kind of chemistry they might have had, making their "romance" quite a drag.
This is the third book I've read in the series and it's so formulaic I can write one too. Female reporter stands outside and talks about the worst blizzard to hit the area in 80 years. Female protagonist has a long lost love. A crime is committed to bring the female protagonist and the long lost love together. They eat. They run around searching for the bad guy. They get the bad guy and each other. The female reporter comes on the air again to say the storm is passing on. The premise of this story is good...a serial killer who poses his victims and ties an ornament to their wrist. There is a lot of action in this story, however it is soooooo unlikely all those things could happen and there still be time left to rescue the kidnapped sister. A barn fire, a multi-vehicle car crash, a surgery....I mean the surgery alone would eat up 6 hours. I felt the author was just throwing stuff in to pad the pages. Maybe it is time to give this series a rest.
A brutal storm, a brutal killer and a brutal reminder of the boy she left behind. Gia ran from home after her Mom died, leaving behind her younger sister and the boy who held her heart in his hands. Now she's a FBI Agent hunting a brutal serial killer dubbed the Christmas Killer. His trademark is leaving a 12 Days of Christmas ornament on the wrist of the girl he has strangled. In a press conference she states she will catch him and sets off a chain reaction she never considered. With Winter Storm Holly bearing down on her hometown the killer rushes there and kidnaps her younger sister, Carley. She has to save her sister, the only family she has left. When she teams up with her former boyfriend, the local sheriff, they desperately search for Carly. Will they find her in time? How many more will die before they find her? Will Carly be one of them? This excellent book holds all the answers. Don't miss this outstanding book. Highly recommended.
Just when you think you have figured out whodunnit, there is a twist and you find out you were on the wrong path all along.
The fun thing about this series is that each of the six books is written by a different author and were released on six consecutive Thursdays. To make things even more interesting, each book is centered around Winter Storm Holly.
I really am enjoying this series. It has just enough thrills and suspense keep you wanting to get to the end of the book to know how it ends. It keeps you in suspense until the very end. I recommend this book and series. Now it's on to the next book.
It is summer now, but I could feel the cold seeping into through my bones as I read this story. Family is ours to cherish. Sometimes we need reminders!!
I didn’t finish the book. I just couldn’t get past the poor editing. Too many errors distracting from the storyline (which was a tad thin & formulaic anyway). If one’s business is words, one might wish to look up the difference between vigilant and vigilante, shutter and shudder, etc.
Gia, an FBI agent had been tracking a serial killer across three states. With a huge winter storm bearing down on her home town, the killer was there and her sister was missing.
Amazing, great storyline, excellent characters, definitely kept me engaged. I’m definitely following this author. She’s an excellent storyteller and once you start you will definitely be a part of the story… very enjoyable reading!!!
I’m a fan of Rita’s books. This one was fantastic. She has a nack for creating characters you can truly love and actually feel like their real people. Rita is artist in the way she writes and I enjoy her timing and pace. Nothing feels rushed and it’s hard to figure out “who done it” some books I’ve read in this genre are easy to spot. Not this one. I was kept guessing. The details: FBI agent coming back to her home town after a crazed killer targets her sister. Long lost love is the local sheriff who still holds a torch. Enter a blizzard or bomb cyclone and these two are off to save the town. I very much enjoyed this book in the series. Off to book 4!
Truly a page turner and another amazing book by Rita Herron. Lots of suspense as a winter storm approaches a small town where a serial killer has decided to kidnap special agent Gia's sister and might make her one of his Christmas killer victim. This book kept me up because I couldn't wait to see how it ended. Highly recommended and look forward to reading her next book in this stormwatch series.
This book is a quick read and is the third book in the Storm Watch series. In this book, Special Agent Gia Franklin is living in the south and is quickly summoned to her hometown of Tinley when the serial killer that she is trying to catch shows up there. Not only is the Christmas Killer in Tinley, but he has also taken Gia’s beloved little sister Carly. Gia has to work with her former boyfriend, Sheriff Murphy Malone, to catch the serial killer before he harms Carly. The suspense in this one wasn’t as well built up as in the previous two novels, and the storm was beginning to become ho-hum. Winter storm Holly has caused the cancellation of the town’s Christmas festivities and it also provides cover for the serial killer to stalk and kill victims. The book was good, but not as fast-paced as I expected, although I did enjoy the story and the villain was a hidden surprise saved for the ending. Fans of suspense will enjoy the entire series!

There is a serial killer dubbed the Christmas Killer, who has murdered 9 young woman in 3 states in the past few weeks, using the Twelve Days of Christmas as his 'theme.' FBI agent Gia Franklin has been doing everything in her power to hunt this lunatic down until she ends up back home because, the killer's latest victim is in her home town. She has to return because, the Christmas Killer has contacted her personally to let her know that he has kidnapped her sister. Gia has to work with Sheriff Murphy Malone, her childhood friend=crush, in order to find Carly before she becomes #10 of the Christmas Killer's 12 Days of Christmas victims. The chemistry between Gia and Murphy is even more explosive than it was when they last saw each other but, can they find this maniac before he murders her sister, or someone else? Another action filled, keep the lights on, terrifying ride of a story that I couldn't stop turning the pages on, until it finished!!!
All Special Agent Gia Franklin has been tracking a serial killer through three states. Because of the season and the unique ornaments, the twelve days of Christmas, left at the scene of each murder, the killer has been dubbed "The Christmas Killer" by the media. Nine women have fallen by the hands of this monster and no clues have been left behind. Then Gia makes it personal....almost goading the killer, hoping he will make a mistake that will help her catch him but instead the killer brings his game to her home town and takes her sister. Three ornaments are left, and the clock is ticking on her sister's life. With the storm bearing down on his small town, Sherrif Murphy Malone finds he has more than the weather to protect his town from and the person he will have to work with is the one woman he has ever loved....the one that got away. A page-turner from the get-go, this book has it all. You don't want to miss out on this exciting third book in the amazing STORMWATCH series!
Quite possibly one of the worst romantic suspense stories ever....There’s virtually no romance, and precious little suspense.
When FBI Agent Gia returns to her home town to help with the search for the serial killer who’s abducted her sister, she encounters an old flame, the local sheriff Murphy Malone. As Gia and Murphy hunt down the killer in the midst of a savage blizzard, Gia realizes how much she’s missed by leaving town. However, when the killer grabs Gia as well, she’s forced to fight for her life, and to fight for a second chance at happiness.
Yawn.
There’s no sense of any romantic connection between Gia and Murphy at all. It’s as if they were on the same high school debate team, rather than sweethearts.
So...lukewarm characters, along with huge plot holes and inconsistencies that wreck the continuity of the story=one star.
Special Agent Gia Franklin is chasing a killer known as the Christmas Killer. He has killed 9 women so far, posing their bodies with ornaments from the 12 days of Christmas. Now he has taken Gias sister Carly. Gia races to her hometown to find the killer and rescue her sister, but a huge snow storm is bearing down on the area which makes conditions difficult. Can they find Carly before it’s too late and she becomes a victim of The Christmas Killer.
This is the 3rd book in the Stormwatcher series but each book in the series stands alone. This one will grab you from the beginning and not let you go til the end. I am enjoying all the books in the series and recommend them all to readers. Thank you to the author for an advanced readers copy for a fair review.
A Christmas serial killer, a super storm, Holly, and a missing sister brings out a desperate FBI agent to find her missing sister before she becomes one of the Twelve Days of Christmas victims. This is the third book in the Storm Watch series and definitely does not disappoint. Gia and Murphy must fight against time and Mother Nature in order to save Carly and Christmas in Tinley. Suspense with a touch of romance has you not putting it down until the very end.
Rita is also a new author to me. I love the way her book was written very easy to follow and very descriptive. This was a very tense book with all that Gia was doing. She was a very strong a determined to solve this case and find her sister alive. I loved Wind Chill because it was exactly how the book was written in the time of year. I also liked how it show what can happen in real life with families.
This is the third book in the Stormwatch series and I've loved them all so far.
I've been a fan of Rita's for some time now and this book didn't let me down.
If your looking for a good series with various authors and great writing then look no further. There's kidnapping, murder, a raging storm, second chance romance, thrills, twists and turns, and just the right amount of romance.
In WIND CHILL Gia races home to save her sister from the clutches of the Christmas Killer. Fighting the elements as the worst snow storm of the century rages, she and handsome sheriff Murphy Malone work together to capture the sadistic monster who is determined to make both sisters his next victims. Rita Herron delivers as always in this awesome book.
This was a fun novel to read. The reader cares about the characters and is interested to find a satisfying resolution. For me, events were somewhat contrived. You do not ignore a beloved sister, not did you quickly resume a high school romance. Still, there was lots of action and a romantic ending.
