It had been called an ‘evacuation’ by the military, but no one had left the town alive. Now that Daniels and the remaining survivors were faced with frozen water pipes, their only hope is to move to a mountain cabin in mid-winter.
A short post apocalyptic tale of survival and hope.

Book loving, writer, who likes to read several books at a time because she's a bit crazy like that.
Go-to authors are Stephen King, James Herbert, Terry Pratchett, Raymond Feist and Clive Barker, with Asimov, Arthur C Clarke, Robert A Heinlein and lots of others in between.
It's not so much about loving particular genres, as much as finding stories and characters to engage and resonate with - but I will always head for Horror, Thrillers, and Science Fiction, before any others (my guilty pleasure is Self-Help.)
I write dark stuff, sci-fi stuff, surreal stuff, psychological stuff and a mixture of all four.
Wow! Just wow! This was not what I thought it was going to be....when I was offered this for free -I thought "well ok, it's going to be something on the order of a locust infestation, or a spider home infestation....all manner of infestation" --not what this is!! When the first sentence describes a frozen pipe...what would you think it is? Aliens!!!!!! At least that's what flittered across my thought waves...oh no. By the second/third paragraph.....now I'm caught in the "what's gonna happen?, What's gonna happen" mode! Miranda is doing a marvelous job of nabbing' your attention! It seems infestation will cause devastating consequences, including your demise! And seems burning clothes, taking chances of frost bite because the shedding of said clothes when you suspect you're exposed , and realizing that this whole catastrophe isn't just a local thing! Reminds me a little bit of the horror stories of cholera from back in the Pioneer days. And as I was reading, I flashed on that movie" Outbreak" --spooky stuff..get a chance to read this short , go ahead and do it..I think you too will like it!---P/
Roderick ask Hanson if Brandon come back yet from the power station yet? They had to be careful other infected survivors might attack them. Warners Dealership. Maybe there was still a vehicle left. Bobby & Steve greeted Daniels & Hanson.
Minus 2 Chevrolet Silverado trucks. Janice fixed Steve (15, Earl’s son) & Bobby (14) something to eat. Abby made sure Daisy & Kyle put on their PJs. Rod & Brandon finally showed up. The snow was coming down. Darla heard the engines getting closer. It was Uncle Wes & his bunch. Who would survive & who would perish from the deadly infection?

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written post-apocalyptic book. It was extremely easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great post-apocalyptic movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. It was just Ok for me so I will rate it at 4/5 stars.

A great short read from this new to me writer! I did really like this & will definately look for more by this writer! A nice short read that heopfully gives a good idea of what to expect from this author! I do recommend it!
The usual (but since it's is not an American author, you wonder why is this a thing here :-D ) catastrophic story, about mankind wiped out by a virus, and these few survivors (apparently not immune, but only lucky they did not catch it so far), gathered together and they make their way at some cabin in the mountains, for being isolated, and thus more safe from this infestation. Probably this story, being so short, was not supposed to detail what the virus is, or is supposed to do to people, only that most die from it. After their successful journey to the cabin, and their settlement in the cabin (some 9 or 10 of them), when spring is about to finally come, they start to dig another building in the vecinity of the cabin, in order to inspect if it is inhabitable, and sadly they find there a pile of dead bodies, most likely dead from the virus. And some few short time after, some of them start to die also, so they suspect they guys who opened that door of that building may have taken the virus also .... but for now we are left to only guess: will all of them are now also infected, or their first dead ones suffered from something else. Thins will have to unfold in some future continuation. We'll see ...
Thoroughly enjoyable. I was drawn to the title Infestation and hoped that it would be as good as I thought it would be and yes it was a brilliant wee short story. I loved it. Thank you Miranda Kate.
Infestation by Miranda Kate is an intense post apocalyptic short story. The characters are well defined but need additional development. The story was off to an exciting start but in the end it left me with more questions than answers. This book begs for a sequel! I have always enjoyed reading Miranda Kate's books and Infestation an excellent read.

I was excited to read an apocalypse story but argh this one had me wanting so much more information and back story. Why was this story so short there was so much room here for the story to be expanded.
What exactly is the infection that has taken over the world? How did it start? Is there any part of society left? is there any government? Is there any cure? Is anyone working on a cure? How did all the people come to meet each other? the characters needed much more description or age, what they looked like, relationships to each other, back story jobs who they lost etc. What are the infected like? do they attack the uninfected? How does someone get infected? what happens once someone is infected? who put the bodies in the shed? Why would you not have made a sign to warn others what is in the shed? What were the survivors going to do next it just kind of ended. was there hope for them?
there was potential but this book could have been so much more so was a little disappointing.
Honestly this was a really good short story. It didn’t read like a horror as I was expecting but it kept me Intrigued. When you think of an infestation you think insects… spiders or animals… I thought this was about zombies too at one point but to be honest it read more like a “last of us” type of story and that was interesting. The story is mainly following a group of survivors and their journey for shelter which I wish there was more of. I also would have liked to see how the infestation started how it spreads etc and I’m going to assume this short story was an intro to a bigger story. I enjoyed this short read for sure
Infestation by Miranda Kate is an apocalyptic short story where the central focus is on the, more or less, found family.
While I enjoyed the more technical aspects (how to solve problems during an apocalypse with not much water and/or no electricity), the idea of a close familial bond, and some of the more descriptive parts—Infestation wasn't for me.
I, personally, struggled to get into it as much as I would've liked. However, I think the virus-concept is interesting, and it—as well as the story of the characters—might benefit from being fleshed out in a longer piece of writing.
There was a disease outbreak and those that hid from the ill and the military are trying to pick up the pieces. Will banding together spread the illness, are the survivors immune? Day to day chores are more than one person can handle so it’s together or die. And the days March on. I would have loved if the author gave us more background on the disease and what was leading to the pre-pandemic, perhaps that’s in the next book!
i got this short story from the autor in booksweeps in exchange of an honest review, this is a very short, and very sad story, there's a plague that we dont know nothing about, we know the militares tried to kill everyone and the group of our main characters hidded and came together after this, but things are tough and they need to find another place to be... go on, you can read it, if you're like me you'll like it
I enjoyed this novelette. I only wish there were more to the story. I'd love a prequel explaining the infestation and the culling of the infected. Then the author could turn this into a full fledged novel. I want to know what happens next! I'm already attached to these characters. This could become a great series!
an unknown infestation is sweeping through the country. The army has come in to evacuate the small town. But no one was left alive during the evacuation. A small band of survivors is moving up into the mountains.
Infestation is an intense short story that left fear in my mind. It is well written and I really enjoyed the plot. I hope it leads to more in-depth tales of this universe.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this ebook from the author and this is my honest and freely given opinion.
An excellent short story from a writer new to me. A dark tale but one of hope and survival. The writing his accomplished and involving. A lot of story in a small number of pages. Definitely a writer I will be following.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
When I got the chance to grab a copy of this I thought "sure I will give it a shot". I went in blind and all I can say is WOW. It was a quick read because I couldn't put it down. So glad I gave this one a chance. I don't want to throw in any spoilers but definitely worth a read.
2-2.5 stars Sorry but this read like an outline proposal for a book. No details on anything, no character development, no backstory, no history, basically nothing. It wasn't even a good short story, not sure why the author put this out, maybe for feedback?
Thank you to the author, from whom I received the ebook a copy in exchange for a fair review.
I read this in no time at all. It was a good sample, but I wanted more. I wanted more of the characters and more of the virus and more of the drama of existing during an epidemic. It seemed to be vaguely zombie-ish, but we never got enough information or scenes with the zombies. And we get the aftermath of events, but not really many of the events.
Basically, the story follows a crew of motley survivors as they make a found family and survive the apocalypse. They begin in a town, find two teens to add to their group, and travel up a mountain to the family cabin of their leader, who is the most explored character.
Basically, I wanted more. This whetted my appetite for some creepy virus horror. I think there's some really good stuff here that could be expanded, and I would love to read the expansion. One of my very favorite parts occurred on the journey up the mountain to safety. The survivors find a car buried in the snow. There is someone in the car, but that person is infected and has glowing blue eyes.
I wanted more of this. This was cool. The groundwork is there, it just needs to be fleshed out.
Great short story. I found the characters very likable, which contrasted effectively with the dystopian setting and had me invested in the plot. I’m a bit unclear about the infestation (is the infection the infestation?), but it did not detract from the story. I really enjoyed it and intend to read more from Miranda Kate.
