The study and preservation of cultural heritage have grown increasingly important worldwide, but this shift can’t be explained solely by their contribution to our knowledge of history and art or their role in the leisure industry. Françoise Choay investigates the reasons for this cult of cultural heritage through its relationship with memory and time and as a reflection of the state of society and its inhabitants.

About the author

Françoise Choay was a French architectural and urban historian and theorist. Since 1973, she has been a professor at the University of Paris. She has also been a visiting professor at numerous universities in the United States, Belgium and Italy. She was awarded the Grand Prix national du Livre d'architecture in 1981 and 2007.

Ottimo percorso storico sul concetto di "bene culturale". Il punto di vista è quello del patrimonio urbano, e il riferimento centrale è alla teoria su monumento / monumento storico elaborata da Alois Riegl.
