˃˃˃ MUST LOVE DANGER SERIES:
In this military romantic suspense series, ex-Navy SEALs form an executive protection company called Black Swan. The black swans were unexpected, like the unexpected danger the company fights. The team is dedicated to saving lives in the civilian world, using skills honed to perfection under battle conditions.
There is a rule for new teammates: Must Love Danger
Each novel in the series is a complete romance with no cliffhangers and guaranteed HEA. And the characters you love make appearances in future stories.
Emily Jane Trent is a true romantic at heart. She writes steamy romantic stories about characters you'll get to know and love. If you like a love story with sex scenes that sizzle and a story that involves you both intellectually and emotionally, you'll find her books are for you.
Glaring plot line holes. Could have been brilliant.
I was really excited about this book as the story sounded really interesting. I have to say that I’m so disappointed. The dialogue is jumpy and very stilted and there are loads of unanswered questions, and one huge mistake near the end. They meet at school and stay friends. He’s an ex navy seal and she’s a bio tech doctor that is working to create a cure for a disease. She’s being threatened so he’s protecting her through his security company. As a reader I never felt connected with either character as I didn’t know hardly anything about them. She had a sister who died from a rare disease. Where are the rest of her family? When she’s being threatened she doesn’t ring them. Are they are still around? What about his family? Has he got any? Has she got no other friends apart from one??? He’s supposed to be the more sociable one and at the beginning of the book they’re at a party together. But after that we don’t hear about those friends again. They disappear! And don’t get me started on the sex scenes! I hate sex scenes that are so clumsily written. She apparently has an amazing orgasm just by him touching her nipples! Really??? Such a shame! This could have and should have been a brilliant book as the plot was really good.
Oh, how I wanted to love this book, but that did not happen. It had all the right elements:
Dashing, former military hero? ✅ Bright, late blooming heroine? ✅ Sound plot? ✅ Solid secondary characters? ✅
But man, this book just never got my attention. The characters felt stiff- not with one another, but they never came alive for me as a reader.
“Yes, she’s been a close friend for a while. I value her support during this tough period.” This is the heroine describing her best friend. Really? That’s how you describe your bestie? Sorry, that just didn’t work for me.
I skimmed through the first 75% of the book. 😞. The ending was good, with a great twist and some action, but not enough to save the book. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back for the next one in the series.
This is a new series by Emily that looks as good as her previous series, Hawke and Emilia have been friends since high school even though their career choices took them in different paths. But when Emilia needs help Hawke steps up to protect her. Must read book!
The book began in a refreshing way with a heroine (Emilia Draper) who wasn’t beautiful in the expected trope-ish way, “just” lovely on the inside, pleasant on the outside. Since the hero Jonathan Hawkins Turner (the eponymous Hawke) finds her beautiful and she has self esteem issues, it’s difficult to know what she looks like…we’ve all been told that beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyway. But…it was nice to have a less than beautiful heroine at least in the beginning. Very against type, and so very welcome!
Emilia and Hawke have been friends since high school and, although they’ve been out of contact since he was in the military, their friendship is still solid, now with an added twist of attraction. Hawke has some commitment issues due to his PTSD nightmares and Emilia has self-esteem issues due to a broken engagement to a man who did not love her. She also appears to have a drinking problem: she often consumes a lot of alcohol. There’s always time for a cocktail it seems. IMPORTANT NOTE: PTSD is real and those who suffer from it – not solely those who served in the military – should be treated with respect, if not serious regard. Yet it seems to be tossed into story after story and has become a trope of its own. I think this is inappropriate. In this book it is used as a device, a reason for Hawke to back away from Emilia. This is wrong. In my humble opinion.
I rated this book 2.5 stars and rounded down because it is not as good as many of the 3-star books out there. The problem is both with the characters and the plot. Hawke is the usual protective SEAL dealing with all that he saw during his tours of duty. Emilia is a scientist working on a pharmaceutical treatment for an incurable disease of the bone marrow. Both are steady, seemingly likeable people. Both are workaholics. Both are invested in their careers. Both are incredibly boring. Well, maybe not boring…but incredibly dreary. And although the lion’s share of the book concerns itself with their continuously redundant thoughts we still know little about them.
Through more than 50% of the book, both of them live in their heads regarding their relationship. He’s afraid his nightmares will overwhelm Emilia. She’s afraid she’s not Hawke’s type and he’ll leave her. Those are their issues and it takes more than half the book to tell us this. [Argh!] Maybe that’s why they seem boring? Several times I wanted to tell them to just stop it…stop the agonizing…just.stop.it.
Even after they had slept together, the observant Hawke doesn’t realize that he’s getting good sleep now. It doesn’t dawn on him until the 80% completion mark when he finally (finally!) realizes that the bad “dreams have abated in frequency since Emilia had been in his life.”
I have to ask this: did anyone else think that the writer had to shade her eyes while she typed the sex scenes, almost as if she hoped her characters wouldn’t get together so she would not have to write any sex scenes? Just curious….
At 70% completion, the writer has Emilia thinking about the pharmaceutical industry and this alerts the reader to the real reason behind the problems Emilia has been having and the attacks she has been under. It’s all about the money (kinda obvious) but it takes Emily a bit longer before she puts it all together and finally gets it.
The book has far too much conversation going on. Discussions are actually good tools to use to get to know characters’ thoughts, to understand their motivations, to get to know them. However here, it’s the same old things discussed over and over and over again. Hawke doesn’t want to commit for the best of reasons. Emilia is scared that Hawke will walk away from her because she just isn’t his type. It’s an opportunity to speed read because the reader will miss nothing – not a thing – skimming through these boring, tedious, deadly dull, monotonous dialogs and inner musings.
As astute readers, we all just know that something bad is going to happen to Emilia and that this something bad will cause Hawke to realize that he must find the cajones to admit his love and commit to her. Unfortunately it takes almost three quarters of the book to get us there. In essence, we go through fifteen chapters of pain and anguish until the final three chapters when we get to some action and a romance.
There is a very fine plus: the story is written in third person narrative. This is so much better than first person which always seems contrived. It makes for smoother transitions within the story and there is no confusion regarding who is talking to whom.
This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Trent. I wouldn’t mind seeing how she would handle a more distinctive and unique plot but I am not going to continue with this series; I expect it will be pretty much the same thing. The story of Hawke and Emilia has been told far too often and we do not need to read any more of this particular tale.
Our heroine has dedicated her life to saving lives, but doesn't know what to do when hers is threatened. Enter our hero who shares the same goal, but has a different approach.
This is book one of the series to no issues there.
This is a romantic suspense story and it comes out strong right from the start. I love this genre because of the mix of action and romance and this one certainly works on all accounts. The story is well written, easy to read and has a fast paced plot. The characters are well developed and both are tough and smart, which is what I like in my leads. There are some nice twists and turns to the plot which keep things interesting, as well as some nice steamy moments for our couple. Overall, I really enjoyed the story and am definitely looking forward to more in the series.
Highly recommended.

This is the first book in the Must Love Danger series and is a steamy, entertaining, romantic suspense. Hawke and Emilia have been friends since they were kids. Emilia went off to college and Hawke joined the Navy and became a SEAL. They're both back home in Philly and Emilia's having trouble at work. Hawke steps in to help he is after all part owner of Black Swan Security and wants to protect his friend. As danger heats up so do their feelings for each other. They each have their reasons for keeping their relationship as just friends. Will they realize that what they have is way more than friendship? Can they figure out who's after Emilia before it’s too late? I enjoy this book and am looking forward to book two

Terrific start to a new series and it had me hooked from the very first chapter. The Emilia and Hawke have known each other since childhood, but now grown up, they find themselves working together. Hawke and other SEALs work together at Black Swan Security. Emilia is working on a cure for childhood disease and is about to save a little girls life, but someone is out to stop her. Loved how both of their skills came together and tackled the situation. The characters have great depth with backstories that round them out. The romance gets steamy good. The storyline is full of twists and turns, intense feelings and emotions. Can not wait for the next in the series.

This is the 1st book in the Must Love Danger series and is Emilia (a scientist, trying to find a cure to keep children safe from a rare disease) and Hawke's(one of the founding members of Black Swan security) story. This is one of my favourite authors, she delivers strong characters and plots that are totally believable. In this book she has combined suspense and romance and just to make it interesting she has added some sizzling chemistry (alright, a lot of sizzling chemistry!). Loved this book and am looking forward to the next book.

Love this authors military/ex military books. This is the first I've read in this series. There's plenty of action, suspense and who done it just the way I like my books. Hawke was a Navy Seal and Emilia and have been friends since school. She works on developing cures for children with life changing diseases. When someone trys to stop her, Hawke won't stand by and see her hurt or worse. It's a race against time to produce the serum. I've read several books written by Emily Jane Trent; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.
This is the first book in the Must Love Danger Series; she has written another great book. Emilia hires Hawke to protect her and help her deliver the new drug to a dying girl when a vicious enemy tries to stop her. Emilia is a friend from his past and he will do anything it takes to keep her safe.

Emily and Hawke, have been friends since childhood. Emily is working on developing treatment for childhood diseases, while Hawke, an ex-SEAL, is in the protection business.
It becomes apparent that someone is after Emily and her research. Who better to protect her other than Hawke?
I really enjoyed reading how the characters interacted with each other, how their emotions/feelings for each other were described, as well as the story.
I look forward to number 2.

Second chance romance. Hawke and Emilia have been friends since high school. He became a Navy SEAL and she a biomedical researcher. They've kept in touch but only on a surface level. Now out of the service and a partner in a executive protection firm, when trouble comes to her job, he makes her case a priority. Jake thinks he's too damaged for love and she thinks she's not lovable. They have to trust in each other for their love to have a chance and fight to keep her enemy from snuffing out her life and second chance at love.
Wow! Emilia a strong intellectual doctor and Hawke a retired Seal secretly share more than a simple and hot friendship. Mystery surrounding Emilia has a medical cure for a little girl, but someone is trying to sabotage her efforts and willing to kill her but for Hawke. By the way, the culprit was a total surprise. Loved the story!

The first book in the series brings Emilia and Hawke's story. The author brings strong characters and weaves a great friends to lovers romance. She pulled me in with all the suspense and romance as well as the sizzling chemistry. Her scenes are painted vividly and the story flows fluidly. I loved this book and am looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
First of a series about SEALS who create an executive protection firm after leaving the military. Hawke's good friend from high school, Emilia, is now a scientist. She becomes a target because of a formula she's working on to treat an extremely rare disease. Hawke sees her differently now that his old popular guy persona from school no longer exists. They have to overcome a lot, mostly personal. In order to meet their happy ever after.
Hawke and Emilia have cared for each other for years but don’t realize it until danger comes to the beautiful biologist. Hawke slowly realizes that Emilia is the woman for him but they are so afraid to gamble with their long standing friendship. As dangerous events happen to Emilia and as she is racing to find a cure for a 6 year old their love is what brings them closer together. Great. Book.
Emilia enlists Hawke's protection, when her life is threatened. People want the biotechnology she has created for personal gain. Emilia and Hawke strive to save lives, as well as their love for one another. Love this book, so good!

The first book in the Must Love Danger series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Navy SEAL Hawke Turner and biotech scientist Emilia Draper’s story of suspense, drama, danger, villains, twists, turns, and romance. I would recommend this book.
This was a great book and a great start to a new series. I am looking forward to reading more of this series and author. They have been friends for years and oddly enough are opposites in many ways. She needs protection and he is the man for the job.
I loved the premise of the story. Our heroine is a genius developing medication for rare childhood diseases. Hawke, her long time friend helps her when threats and rumour affect her job. The story was sweet, it was just written in a stilted style (the flow was missing).
Omg I did not suspect that one. The twist is extremely unbelievable, considering the others that I suspected prior. Her support is strong and now he heart would heal from prior betrayal.
Ex Seal who can face anything but fears commitment or the loss of his forever friend. She thinks she isn’t all that but would love to be his all but fears losing his friendship. Can they get past the fear while he saves her life?
