Worst. Surprise. Ever.

I’m a nerd. A bookworm. I slay with words, not swords.

MC is just way too clueless

I was expecting YA or teen but it felt like this was more 4th/5th graders. For a 19 year old Meg is incredibly helpless. Despite how often she says she got great grades and is really smart, she’s got absolutely no street sense and is woefully slow to pick up on the obvious. Overall I just find her too immature for this book to be enjoyable.

Such a tease

This was shockingly short. A bit of a tease really. I like Megara and I like that she doesn't automatically believe the brainwashing beliefs of the Slayers. I am very curious about the fae. I doubt they are as bad as the Slayers say they are.

This is an awesome start to this academy series I mean who wouldn’t want to go to slayer academy?? Well written this features not a kick ass heroine but a bookworm / nerd heroine who I absolutely loved, weapons classes and a slow burn forbidden love! Loved the twists and turns, love the adventure and can’t wait to read what happens next!

Found another cover of The Legacy, and liked the cover. It reminded me of books about a magical university that teaches and trains young people to fight some kind of battle. Made me think about Vampire Academy for example.

This book was short, but I did like some parts of it. I did like the Fae, the last part of the book, where the Fae were more prominent was the most interesting part for me. I would have liked to read more about them and their magic, world, habits, etc. But instead, we got a college sexy fling with some interesting classes and some other bland characters. The main character was described as a sky bookworm, but I did not get that feeling. A bit disappointed, wanted to like it enough to read the next book in the series, but...

Then I read the synopsis of the second book and decided not to continue to read the books. The books are not the genre or subject that I expected/ wanted to read from a Fae/ Slayer book series.

This book could be interesting and a fun read for someone else, but it wasn't for me, sadly.

“Speak of the devil and see the tip of his tail”

You know, I liked the idea of this book and there were points that I felt like I was reading a dystopian from 2010 that toed the line of Wattpad and A03 (WHICH IS NOT BAD! I often craved it some days). The first part I felt like I was back to Shadow Hunters/Mortal Instruments all over again, but then it took a twist of like Tower Prep/The Magicians or the Winx Netflix (vibe and location wise).

“I can smell the hatred” I think you were truly smelling the fear and lust.

At first when I started reading I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep reading. HOWEVER, once I got to the end, I was more willing to read the next story.

Fae

I'm not sure about this book!
Meg knows she's different to her peers, and is undecided as to where to go to college. Her parents inform her that she is to go to an Academy, that evening, as she is to become a Fae Slayer - something which she knows nothing about!
Apparently she is a Legacy, as she's a 5th generation Slayer!
She has nightly dreams about a man she met at a club! She also ends up having sex with another student!
This book was plodding along quite nicely, then it ended - just like that!!
Don't think I'll bother reading the next book in the series!

Megara

After completing one year at the local community college, Meg decides to take a year off and work. But her parents have other ideas, they both graduated from the Slayer Academy. It teaches the students how to kill the fae, which are evil.
Very interesting and intriguing paranormal concept. Looking forward to next book !!

This was a part 1, so you have to buy book 2 to finish the story. I really liked it, but wish the story would have been concluded in book 1.

Reading the back cover, I got the impression of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I liked that show, so I flipped the kindle open and dived in.....
Megara (or Meg to her friends) is not a kick ass warrior woman, Meg is a book worm, she’s not use to fighting and certainly not monsters. But we are getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s go back .....
Meg is off to do a gap year before deciding what’s next in her life she very excited. But her whole world is about to change, and in her opinion, not for the better.
She’s unaware that both her parents are Fae slayers (and are pretty good at their job) and it’s time for their daughter to leave this life and enrol in Slayer Academy, to say that Megara is shocked and displeased is an understatement...... she’s thinking it’s a big joke, but as it sinks in, she realises her family are serious, they are going to shop her off to some school....
Arriving at the front of the academy Megara is in awe of the building, but she’s also a little apprehensive, it doesn’t look too friendly, and the nerves Meg had been suppressing, come back big a bang (this is all some terrible dream).
We meet other class mates (and that wasn’t a great first meeting) they aren’t impressed, the Callum’s are great warriors and hunters of the Fae, and Meg, well she’s a big disappointment!!!
We then read all the fun times (not) with weaponry (she’s no good with swords) and her hand to hand skills are a joke!!! But the other lessons, Meg is a keen student and makes the grades.
And it’s not teenage angst unless there is a love story.... and this one will be a forbidden one, why? Is Fiore Fae ?  And if so, that’s a big NO NO in the slayer world, they can’t and shouldn’t be together, but you try telling a teenager NO😉and Fiore (that’s the hunks name) is definitely worth disobeying everyone for. There is just something about him (besides being hot) there is a connection Megara has never felt with anyone before. But there is also that element of danger that keeps Meg from falling too deep.
We also have Brutus (a student at the school) there is definitely a spark between them, so we could have a love triangle😉
Oh and did I mention a Legacy? (Well the title does give it away) it’s her legacy, five generations of her family have attended and have slain the evil Fae. Is there more to her legacy (I have a feeling there is)
So if you like heroines that’s aren’t warriors, that are nerds first and foremost, then you definitely need to pick this book up.
And book two..... if it’s half as good as this one, then I’m in.

The Legacy (Slayer Academy #1):

As an older adult, I have been skeptical of reading something labeled “academy.” It sounds young-adult. It sounds juvenile and cliquish, things I really never experienced. Then again, I never partied, I studied alone, worked excessively to make ends meet through college, and now have the chance to experience what I should have the first time?!? Hell, yes! Count me in....

Megara is like me, an introspective social wallflower whose only friend, Holly, drags her to a party where she does what we all expect: she decorates the wall. However, a tall, gorgeous man takes interest and wants to take her outside. Luckily Megara is smart enough to get suspicious and refuse, but she cannot stop thinking about those 15 minutes throughout the book. I don’t mind; he seems HOT.

When she arrives home, though, her parents throw her a curveball: she is going to some academy she never heard of. Yessiree, Megara is not yet a rebel. She does what her parents require, even if it sounds kooky and odd. An academy of slayers? She has some kind of powers? Who knew?

And the academy: a Gothic home. Everyone learns to fight, even a bookworm like Megara. She has a dorm room with three other girls, which is too many for comfort. A bully who might have the hots for her. It gets better.

1. Romance: I LOVE the romance. Megara and Fiore have some kind of connection which surfaces every night. She also has a love triangle with the bully, but it is a complex and interesting scenario. I cannot wait to see how it develops. And it’s graphic.
2. Writing style: The story is easy to read, more designed for younger readers. The words are not poetic, but that means I was able to read fast, and it only took 2 nights to finish.
3. World-building: I am not sure how creative it is. It starts in the modern world and transitions into a superhero-like academy with the fae forest surrounding it. I was not thrust suddenly into a different existence, and I thought the transition believable. The elvish society so far matches mythology, but in a fresh view of it. So far I like the concept a lot.
4. Pacing: Perfect. I never got bored or skipped ahead. Well-designed plot.
5. Theme: Academy pieces are expected to be a coming-of-age or major transition in life that throws a person in a different direction. We all like characters to develop and change through the story, and Megara does. But there is a theme that mimics today’s polarization and nationalism/racism. Megara’s activism to racism is exactly what I need right now.

Typical but not particularly good paranormal academy story with girl suddenly finding out about paranormal world and heading off to slayer school. There is the mysterious fae (who are the slayer's enemies) and the hot bully with the mean girlfriend. Meg was not a bad heroine but there was nothing special about her either. So why didn't it work for me. First and foremost I was super irritated with the way her parents kept her slayer hertiage and whole fae world from her until the day she has to leave for slayer school. I mean sure don't tell her while she is growing up but she had already done a year of college, has the summer off and bam today to go to slayer school. You couldn't have told her after high school, or you know the previous week? It was dumb. Next there is Meg meekly toddling off to school cause her parents said so, even though she didn't want to. She was 19 and had already been to college - she is an adult and didn't have to go. It was weird.
Now putting aside those 2 things aside (which I struggled to do cause it was so stupid. There was no REASON for them) the story and characters lacked depth. And then there is Brutus. I know there trend is for 'bully' romances at academies now but I personally don't like them. Bullying is not a trait I find attractive no matter how hot he is. That just makes the relationship totally about looks cause it can't be about liking the person cause that is just not likeable behaviour. So while others may enjoy this one is not for me and I wont be continuing the series.

This is a brilliant new series.
Megara learns that her family has been hunting fae for generations and that she is to attend the slayer academy herself to follow her family legacy. Here she will have to learn how to become a fae hunter; but she first has to believe in herself.
I love the characters and the world building going on in this new series.
Love the story line and plot that is happening.
Can't wait to read more in this series and see the characters grow.
Recommend reading.

Megara attends a party for her friend’s birthday but she really wasn’t interested in being there. She finds a quite place and is approached by the handsomest man she had ever seen. She was attracted to Fiore but also felt danger. He tries to lure her away but instead she dances with him and then he’s gone. The next day she is told by her parents that she is going to the Slayer Academy as did the four generations before her. She’s stunned. When she is dropped off her mother does not even get out of the car. As she enters the yard she is attracted by four people, she runs but is quickly overtaken. So much for the Legacy one of them says, and so begins her adventure.

This is a well written paranormal academy adventure. The characters are very well developed and are compelling. The narrative sets the stage and future defines the characters inner feelings. The struggles she endures help her grow and develop independent thinking in a very rigid environment. There is an attraction between her and the Fiore that is revealed in her dreams. It is a creative paranormal adventure using slayers and the Fae. The book is easy to read and extremely interesting. As the first book in a series, the story is not yet completed but it the characters are so dynamic you will want to read the next book.

This book begins a new series. I usually like magical academy types of stories, so I was drawn to read this one. I was particularly intrigued by the idea that the heroine considers herself to be a nerdy bookworm, and she is suddenly thrust into a magical world that she had no idea existed. In this world, she is to be trained to be a fae slayer, as her family has been such for four generations. Unfortunately, she doesn't even get to the academy until near the halfway point of the book. The first half is spent setting up her everyday life before her parents’ announcement upends it by telling her that she will be going away to a special academy for training. While we do see a few interesting scenes at the academy, the author chose to flash forward through much of her time there, focusing on a couple of key scenes instead. I would have liked to have seen more of her regular daily life at the academy and her adjustments to this world and her role in it. That said, even though this book felt a little slow at times, I think it does a good job setting up this magical world, and I would like to see where the author is going to take this next.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Great start to this new paranormal academy series. Megara is still trying to find her place in life and struggling to fit in, when her parents drop a bombshell on her - She is being sent to Slayer Academy just like her parents and grandparents before her to learn how to kill the Fae. While her family history makes her a Legacy, she knows next to nothing about this new world she finds herself in. Top that off with a mysterious encounter with a guy at a bar the night before she leaves and a not so welcoming introduction to the Academy, and she doesn't know what to believe. As she seeks the knowledge she needs to survive this adventure, she begins to question the past, her feelings, and what the truth really is. Things get even more complicated as she learns more and unwittingly finds herself in a bit of a love triangle between Fiore, the Fae she met at the bar, and Brutus, the bully she met upon her arrival at the school. With all these expectations placed on her because she's a Legacy, just what will she do and what will her ultimate legacy be? I can't wait to see what the rest of the series holds for this characters!

This is the first book by Amelia Shaw i have read and i really enjoyed it and im totally looking forward to reading the second book of this series.

Megara learns that her family has been hunting fae for generations and that she is to attend the slayer academy herself to follow her family legacy. There she will have to learn how to become a fae hunter but she will start to doubt if everything they are told about the fae is the truth.

This story pulled me right in and I found this book well written and the storyline is good despite the fact that there is not much action in this one. This first installment is more of an introduction to what will happen in later books in the series. Can't wait to see what will happen next.

Megara has always been a good student, and now at 19, she is considering where to to college. When she goes to a friend's birthday party, she meets Fiore - and is struck by his beauty. Little does she know that this will be the last night that she has her 'normal' view of the world and her life. The next day, her mother drops her off to learn to become a Fae Slayer at the Slayer Academy, where she is a legacy, as her Grandparents and parents all attended. But Meg is certain she doesnt belong - and the treatment she gets from other students seems to cement this knowledge. But things happen - angels, demons, attempts to kill her - and meeting Fiore again and finding out the truth about him. I couldnt put it down once I started - and cant wait for the next one!

The Legacy: Semester 1 by Amelia Shaw is the first book in the Slayer Academy series. In this book, a girl Megara is trying to choose what she wants to do next after her high school graduation. However, she has her whole life uprooted when her parents wake her up at noon and tell her she needs to pack her bags to go to the Slayer Academy. This book is interesting, intriguing, and full of mystery. Megara is a unique character who finds herself having to educate herself from scratch with no knowledge of the new world she finds herself in. This book is a first book of several so it does end in a cliffhanger to lead into the next book. I really liked this coming of age story due to its edgy plot with its twists and turns. This is a fun and entertaining read full of adventure, danger, and a surprise romance. The Legacy: Semester 1 is full of adventure, danger, and romance.

What, I'm a slayer, how could they keep this from me? Megara his a nerd that has trouble making friends. I'm out with friends at a club, and god this gorgeous guy comes up to me. I can't stop think about him. Now he's in her dreams. Next morning I';m sent off to Slayer Academy, never told this my legacy. Now I feel like I can't stay at the top, and now another guy has my eye, but he's a bully. Can Megara figure out who the mystery guy is? Can she learn to be a slayer? Will these bullies take me out? Will the fae really kill me? Why do we really kill them? Gosh who to believe? Who are these people?

Slayers and Fae equals trouble!

This is the first book in the Slayer Academy series by Amelia Shaw. This story is a great set up for the next book. You will read about Magera who is thrown in the Academy with no knowledge of what is going on. Growing up she knew she knew she was different but do not think it wasn't normal. So basically Magera has to deal with some bullying because she is a legacy who knows nothing. this bulky is pretty hot though, so what will happen there? She has to learn a lot to catch up to everyone but in the meantime she is having dreams of a gorgeous man. However, as she is learning the history of slayers, she has more questions and it all comes down at the end. I need to know what is going to happening.

This is the first Amelia Shaw book that I have read. The book is well written but a Little to slow for my liking. Megara is the main charecters name and she suddenly finds out that that her family has been hunting fae for generations and that this has been hidden from her. Now out of the blue she is told that she has to attend the slayer academy herself where she will learn how to become a fae hunter. But she hasn’t grown up hating Fae and soon realises that not everything is black and white, not all Fae are evil and soon she starts to doubt everything her family have led her to believe.
As the storey is good I may give book 2 a try and just hope that it is a lot faster paced.

I’m loving these Academy stories that are coming out lately including this one The Legacy: Semester 1. Megara is a nerd a bookworm she has trouble making friends but her family has secrets. She finds out that she is a slayer as her family have been for generations she is sent off to the slayer academy and things aren’t so easy for her there either. At night she dreams of a mysterious stranger who is he and what does he want?. This is a great start to a new series and I can’t wait to read the next book to find out more about Megara at the academy. Great story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

An interesting take on a slayer academy style book. I've only come across one other fae slaying book before and this is leagues better. There is the typical hot popular bully-style guy, mean girl, and the besties/roomies in this academy but it lacks a well-rounded academy feel as not many other characters are shown or have any interaction with Meg (the main character). There are parts of her attending classes, mostly physical training, and studying in the library though not very immersive. The book takes place over an entire semester, though most is breezed over in time jumps. The fae prince was the most interesting part aside from learning about the new world Meg has become immersed into.

1st in series

This is single POV and need to be read in order. Female LC is Megera. She overthrown into a world she is wholly unprepared for by her parents. She is the 5th generation to attend the Slayer academy. An academy that trains students how to kill the Fae. She meets Fiore at a birthday party, the night before she is to attend the academy. From getting attacked my fellow students within minutes of setting foot on academy grounds, to Far a couple months in. She is out of her element. I wish there was a little character development and more evidence of chemistry between love interests.
