The Breach Chronicles #0.5

Origins: The Legend of Ava

Rate this book
The prequel to BROKEN, Book I of the Breach Chronicles.

Ava watched the hysterical girl dart in and out of the gloomy shadows cast by the dense trees that loomed in her path. As a sorceress belonging to the Heichi clan, Ava’s blessing or curse, depending on how you looked at it, was her ability to move through time. It was never self-initiated, though. She was often affected by visions of the future and then drawn to them, literally pulled from the past and taken to that moment; it could be a few years, decades or even centuries. When, why, or how? She had never been able to answer that question.

ORIGINS is a lovely novella set in the same world as BROKEN. Ava, one of the Heichi sorceresses, is gifted with the ability to time travel. One condition of using her gift is that she must never allow the ones she watches in other time periods to see her, even when she observes them coming to terrible fates, but when she is pulled from the past to a future timeline and witnesses a terrible crime being committed, she wrestles with whether she can continue to sit idle or how her actions may have long term consequences. I love these sorts of books that ask interesting “what if” questions! I enjoyed this short fantasy story that had a fairy tale feel to it, with consequences handed out for every action even when those actions were intended to help, and a price always needing to be paid. As always, I enjoy Ivy Logan’s writing and can’t wait for her next book! 5/5 stars.

I read Origins: The Legend of Ava (The Breach Chronicles) by Ivy Logan while returning from a brief vacation. The book is short at forty-five pages, so I got through it in no time. I have already read Broken book one, and it is an amazing novel. The characters Logan has created are rich, kind, compassionate, and brave.
Ava is a wonderful example to young adults, with her unquestionable loyalty and a heart to step in and save others who are in need and troubled. Even though Ava is given strict orders not to intervene, her heart is bigger than her reasoning. Logan also shows there are consequences when interfering in things we should not.
"You are wool-gathering again," Siobhan said. "You are not thinking of saving them are you?"
"Of course not," said Ava, even though, in her heart, she knew it was a lie.
This prequel is a great lead into book two. If you've not read Broken, I highly recommend you do. Logan is an excellent storyteller and draws you into the world she has created. 5 brilliant stars

I thought the premise of this prequel was very interesting and had me wishing for more by the end. It did start a little slow for me, but that was mostly because I feel like I needed just a little bit more history of the past and present societies (supernatural in relation to human) that the main character traveled to and from. Though there was some physical discretion of the Dueijan, I had no idea what it was. At first I thought it was a vampire of sorts. Also, I felt it was assumed that I knew what the Heichi were. I personally just like it all laid out for me from the start. Maybe a little societal backstory prior to Ava’s going into visions at the beginning would’ve been nice. Other than that, I really enjoyed reading this short prequel. It peaked my interest enough that I would definitely consider reading the next book.

Ava Carries the Ultimate Responsibility
Ava, a Heichi sorceress, can time-travel and sees what she shouldn’t see. Ms Logan builds the myths in this prequel to her fantasy series The Breach Chronicles on a simple premise, the interdiction against getting involved when time-traveling. Ava and her friend Selena break that prohibition and suffer the consequences. Their efforts create a worse situation than the one they wanted to avoid. The death of a young girl ultimately sparks rebellion and war between humans and supernaturals. Hence the sorceressess’ withdrawal from the world and the beginning of the Chronicles. My only problem with this prequel is that it’s too short. Ms Logan hasn’t time or space to evolve her story. Through this, it becomes breathless and sometimes difficult to follow. Her ideas are good and deserve better.

I found the "Legend of Ava..(The Breach Chronicles)..to be very intriguing.
I am a huge fan of new authors, as well, as those that have established themselves.
I see A Future Best seller here.
I am always looking for New authors.
Being a writer, myself, I find that reading new dialogue inspires and gives me a way of looking at old things..with a different perspective.
Great read!

I have read all books of the deeply imaginative Breach Chronicles by Ivy Logan – “Broken”, “Metamorphosis”, and “Redemption” – and when I realised that there is a prequel to the series I knew that I had to read it too.

“Origins: The Legend of Ava” is a short read, packed with events that give the hints about what readers can expect in the next books. It also introduces us to some of the saga’s intriguing and controversial characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed the return to the world of Heichi sorceresses, full of magic and creatures with unique powers that can be a blessing but also a curse. It depends on a person which part will win and form the core of who they are.

“When her sisters looked at him, he felt like a monster. When his mother looked at him, he felt like the luckiest boy in the world.” Tagasaya – the story of his vengeance can be found in “Metamorphosis” – was too small when he realised how differently others see him when they look at him. His mother’s sisters failed her when she needed her clan’s support the most. Tagasaya concluded that they deserved to be punished for it. Still, he was a boy when he made that decision. His core wasn’t yet formed. In “Origins: The Legend of Ava”, we learn how it started for Tagasaya, and what role other Heichi sorceresses, his mother’s sisters, played in the life path he had chosen. The next books of the series tell the readers how it all turned out for him and also for others whom he met on his difficult road to learning who he truly is.

“Origins: The Legend of Ava” is an engaging story. A gift for those who have read the next books and enjoyed the magical world of the Breach Chronicles and a promise of exciting adventures for those who are only to embark on this emotional journey.

Picture the opening scene... The beautiful yet unassuming girl, the bad boy rebel... A budding romance. Without giving too much away, they don't feature all that long in plot. This novel starts as it means to go on, it take all those YA tropes and lets you know that isn't going to happen here.

I'm genuinely excited to read more of this story. The world being built is rich and new. I'm an artist and I'm already itching to bring to life on paper. The characters are, for lack of a better word, human. Flawed in a real sense that allows you to emphasise with them. The mutli perspective way the story is presented allows for a 360 view of events. A very important factor to this introductory piece.

I can't wait for the next installment!

Origins is the prequel to Ivy Logan’s Breach Chronicles. It tells the tale of Ava, a sorceress who is able to time travel. In a visit to the future, she sees a murder committed. She foresees great trouble as a result and calls for the help of another sorceress to avert the disaster. It is this act of mercy that changes the future altogether.

Ms. Logan has done a great job of setting up the premise for Broken, Book 1 of the Breach Chronicles. The characters are well described, their emotions jumping off the page, and all beautifully worded.

I’m looking forward to reading the first installment of the series as this prequel peeks my interest to the epic saga that is to follow.

Ava is a sorceress who has the power to see into the future, and when she witnesses the terrible death of a young girl, she sets events in motion to try and stop the death - even though interference is forbidden. Unfortunately there are terrible consequences to her actions.

This is a short read, and basically takes us back in time to the events that caused the supernaturals to live apart from humans, separated by a veil. Ava becomes one of the guardians of the veil. The writing is good, and the characters interesting, and this short sets up a good introduction to Broken. If you're after a quick read, I suggest you check it out!

I have just had the pleasure of reading this short story and prequel to Broken; book one of The Breach Chronicles. The author has introduced the reader to a world where supernaturals live on earth and the complications that this can bring. In this story we meet Ava and the Heichi sorceresses and what a gripping start to the story it is when tragedy and subsequent decisions surrounding this, creates unease among the supernatural. This is a story you must read and it has left me wanting more. I hope it isn't too long before Broken is released so that I can find out what happens next.

What a magical introduction this prequel is to The Breach Chronicles YA series by Author Logan. The author sets up the story nicely but also hooks us in with this well written and gripping introduction. In this short story, Ava, who can time travel is trying to avoid something disastrous from happening, which sets in motion the story. We’re introduced to several characters and their abilities, and the stage is intrudingly set. An exciting taster and I wonder if the things I’m asking myself will be discovered in the series?

What an introduction! It just leaves you hungry for more. Ivy Logan knows how to build a beautiful scenario even if it is a tragic one. The taste of her mythology is a fresh one. I can't wait to read more.

This book is the most perfect prequel! It sets the stage for the series, describing how the worlds Earth and Htrae came to exist, and delving into a bit of very tantalizing history. It's perfect because it's short, but provides necessary background information to understand the series, and yet it whets one's appetite for the forthcoming book. The characters stayed with me long after I finished this prequel and I can't wait to encounter them in future books!

I had a good enjoyable time reading Origins by Ivy Logan. I personally like her style of playing with the words Earth and Htrae. It is a book filled with promising adventures, intrigues and family values. This is the type of book I wish that's already complete so I won't feel that I have missed something after reading the last page . It's definitely worth my time.

This is the prequel to Broken, and I have to say it was an interesting read. It starts by explaining who each character is, and what their part will be. Although, I understand the way of things and having rules to follow I feel like Tagasaya will soon rain hell down on those who were against his mother. This story was well-written, and I look forward to reading more from this Author. (ARC)

Ava possesses many extraordinary abilities. She, among other ‘gifts’ has the ability to travel to the future. An endearing and well-developed character of strength and perseverance. This ability to travel leads into many decisions that aren’t always in keeping with her inner virtues. She must head off the evils that lurk at, almost, every turn in order to save the world she’s known, but, most importantly, in my opinion, herself. It is not a story of victim hood, but rather, one that delves into the very psyche of society’s evils and one’s mission to deal with both the known and unknown. The unfolding is intriguing and the concept unique. Logan has created magnificent characters, an engaging plot, and a thought-provoking look into one’s struggles. A ‘coming of age’ of sorts which lends itself to all ages. I scooped up Broken and Metamorphosis first. I was completely vested in both of these sequels. This short story, however, gave me the foundation and further allowed a revealing and solid understanding of what had followed. It speaks to one’s choices, adverse events, and both positive and negative outcomes. Moreover, it addresses the possibilities of coping with the, sometimes, tough decisions we’ve all faced at one time or another. Each of Logan’s tales can stand alone. But, for a beautiful tapestry to be completed, I most highly recommend one reads each one. The writing is brilliant and each book offers, not only insight into the characters, both ‘good and evil’ in a world whose very existence depends upon the actions or inactions, but, the bravery of both heart and strength! Ava, in Origins, sets the tone for what is to come next. I am so looking forward to reading the final (or, perhaps, yet, a continuation) for what will happen next in Redemption! A most highly recommended read! Kudos for this magnificent collection and its author!

Origins

Ivy Logan’s ‘Origins, The Legend of Ava’ lays the foundation for her book ‘Broken’.

Ava, is a sorceress, and an Elder of the Heichi clan, of which her younger sister Siobhan is queen. Their magic generates from their beautiful blue wavy hair, which gives them the power to travel into the future. The Heichi inhabit the earth, alongside the Humans and the Dueijian, monstrous creatures, known for hunting and attacking humans, who take on the guise of part goblin and reptile.

Ava is compelled by a feeling of danger, to be thrown into the future, and it’s while there, she witnesses two senseless deaths, of a Human and a Dueijian, which could have been avoided, had one of them, Nia (the Human) not given in to her reckless nature.

On wakening from her journey, with the horrific images still playing out in Ava’s mind before her. She, with her friend Selena, hatch a plan between them, whereby Selena would go to try and prevent any of these events from transpiring, but, this fails, and as a result, incurs more disastrous consequences for both women… for centuries, all clans have lived in a fragile harmony, but these events have forced a veil to be drawn between Humans, and themselves, if only for the self-preservation of their respective species.

Origins, is such an eloquently written short story, woven and told in a way only Ivy Logan can. Her way with words is beautiful, as she encapsulates the very soul of the story she is writing within them. An amazing read, and I am so looking forward to the book ‘Broken’.

An enthralling YA fantasy romance

"Origins: The Legend of Ava" follows Ava, a powerful sorceress pulled from her past into a future rife with danger. When she witnesses the brutal murder of a young girl, Ava faces an agonizing choice: should she save the life of the girl's killer, even if it risks the fate of the world? Ava and her sister, Selena, start working together to prevent the tragedy from happening, oblivious that their interference might actually cause it.

As I had already read the other book from this series, I really enjoyed this prequel because it helped me understand what happened to Tagasaya and what caused a chain of events leading to the breach.

Logan’s vivid world-building creates an immersive backdrop that complements the intricate moral questions she poses. I was drawn into her internal conflict between duty and making a difference. The themes of revenge, loss, and a deep-seated desire for justice resonate throughout the narrative, making it a compelling read. Ava's journey is not only a quest to save or condemn but also a reflection on the nature of forgiveness and sacrifice.

Overall, "Origins: The Legend of Ava" is a gripping short story that left me pondering the choices we make in the face of harrowing decisions. A must-read for any fantasy and romance enthusiast!

Origins, a prequel to The Breach Chronicles-a YA Fantasy series, introduces readers to the world in which Ms. Logan's characters reside. This is a fascinating short story featuring Ava, a sorceress with the power or perhaps burden of time travel. Ava does not have control over when she will be swept into the future. When it happens, she is supposed to observe without interfering. But Ava, who is compassionate, finds it torturous to watch those who face dire fates. She is tempted to step in and try to save them. This is a cautionary tale of what may ensue when one tampers with destiny. Readers of "Origins" will be eager to linger in this fantasy world by reading Book one, "Broken."

Ava's abilities pulled me immediately into the storyline. This is a quick read novella introducing us to the following book 'Broken' which I am eager to delve into. The characters mesmerized me, and the cultures so parallel those of all societies today with prejudices and rules. Tagasaya's desire for revenge kept my curiosity intense in the end. What will happen next? I must know and I hope the readers of this genre will follow along as well. Ivy's writing gives an excellent display of imagination. Excellent beginning to a new series.

Having read and enjoyed the first two books of the Breach Chronicles, I was excited to see there was a prequel to the first story. Ava is a Heichi Sorceress who can see the future and sometimes end up there. She helplessly watches a girl racing deep into the forest. Her attempts to help or change things have repercussions she has to deal with. Ava is a character full of compassion that isn’t always appreciated. I loved she followed her heart even in the worst of situations. This quick read can be a stand-alone, but it is a great addition to a series I can easily recommend.

Perfect prequel

I've read other books in this series and I found it nice that Logan wrote a prequel. Ava was strong and full of heart. How humans, supernaturals, and fantasies blend together in creating a well. oiled prequel in 45 pages is astounding. For those who love reading supernatural novels, this book starts you on an adventure that goes on a long way.

A fast-paced read to create the setting for the series. Ivy Logan swiftly builds a highly visual world in this short story. Fascinating characters, complex motivations and a strong foreshadowing of conflict are heightened by misunderstandings. What could go wrong? A great way to pique interest, and I look forward to reading Broken to see just how wrong it went.

Great beginning

This is a prequel to a series of books by the author. I will say that it certainly lays the groundwork for an exciting story.

Origins introduces several characters but most importantly it introduces the factions who will, ultimately, come into conflict.

Will be reading the next book "Broken" and finding out how this all plays out.

I enjoyed this, it's the first title I've read by Ivy Logan and she shows a lot of promise as an author. I understand this is a prequel to a series, so I will certainly be checking out the other titles in the series. This is a short title but that is reflected in the price. Highly recommended.
