“My best friend says peristone beads look like ordinary stone but, to me and others like me, they glow as if they’re a tiny bit of a rainbow. Like a jewel catching the sunlight. Even in the dark, they shine. O’papa explained to me how Aura Shapers use them to craft light, but I’ve never seen it done before last night.” “Craft light?” “Aye, that’s what we call it. We craft stone. Shapers craft light. The light just happens to be the energy of life.” Euan, Stone Crafter of Shae.
Discover the fate of Anna’s world in this thrilling final instalment of the battle between the White Shaper and Nystrieth, the Black Shaper and self-proclaimed god.
The Mastran border is about to be breached by Emperor Nystrieth’s enormous, marauding army leaving King Rybis no choice but to declare war on the Black Shaper and send help to The Kingdom’s closest ally.
Elona, the Reader warrior, and Pyteor, the Concealer, are only weeks away from presenting their Emperor and God with coloured peristone beads and the knowledge of how to transform them into fabled black peristone. They know no one will be able to stop Him once He has the power of the stone, not even the so-called King’s Shaper, the weakling wisp of a girl who’s joined forces with Rybis’ spies.
Anna’s new oath, Forever White, means she’ll stand up to evil at every opportunity and Nystrieth is no exception. Now in possession of a white peristone, her powers have never been greater, but she'll have to face her fears and find new allies if she’s to stand a chance of stopping the monster from destroying the good in the world.
In February 2018, a longtime friend of mine died much too young. Ann had spent her entire adult life working to improve the health and lives of others so her death seemed particularly cruel. To my mind, it was almost as if she'd taken their illnesses into herself where they'd metastasised into the cancer that killed her. This concept got me thinking about a world where some people, Healers, really could heal others by absorbing their injuries and illnesses into themselves. Before I knew it, I'd written the opening chapter of A Shaper's Promise where we meet Anna, the only daughter of a Healer whose own gift is that of Aura Shaping, the most powerful and feared gift of all.
Anna's story is told in the Aura Shaper trilogy: A Shaper's Promise, A Shaper's Birthright and A Shaper's Farewell.

A shaper's Farewell by Karen Macrae. A very enjoyable read with some good characters. This book finished the trilogy of perfect. Anna's character was my favourite. 4*.
Recap: Anna finally meets the black shaper in battle.
Review: I have very much enjoyed this series but the ending left me feeling a flat, it seemed a little too easy? The black shaper was such a horrifying monster of a man, the baby scenes made me wince and want to cry, it feels a little like the light won too easily. I'm still awarding 5 stars because the book was well paced, the characters well developed and the land tribe a masterful addition. Yes we could have enjoyed them and their powers more if they'd been included in the first two books but it is what it is. Whilst this is an ending there are still many questions about what happens next to the characters and also questions about various backgrounds alluded to previously for different characters. There is such a wealth of world building here, I see no reason why we can't have more shaper stories.
The finale is here on the Shaper's series. It has been an amazing series and A Shaper's Farewell does not disappoint.
I enjoyed this one so much more than I could have imagined. As Anna and the gang finally have to come face to face with the Black Shaper this book has a much darker tone than the others.
The writing continues to be amazing and we get to know the characters so much better in this book. Though there is a lot left at the end that could happen I felt it wrapped up the series well.
There was some shocking and heartbreaking moments to the book but that must gave it a more "realistic" feel for you knew that it could happen.
I will definitely be recommending to any one who likes YA or NA supernatural fiction and hope to read more from the author soon.
The last book in the trilogy, this pulls everything together towards what was a very fitting finale to this story. Once again, we learn so much more about Anna’s friends along the way as their relationships develop. As Anna’s ‘gift’ goes from strength to strength, so does that of the black shaper and right until the end it is not clear who will come out on top. There are some gruesome battles along the way and we get to see even more of this fantasy world and its people, which has been so cleverly developed by the author. All the different threads of this story were brought together in the end, and this was an enjoyable read throughout.
I received a copy of this book from the book club reviewers Thank you I always know it’s a good series when I’m reluctant to write the final review, once it’s written it’s all over ☹️ Still the times here and the reviews ready This is book 3 in the series and the final one. Karen has created a world within these books that’s actively engage the reader and keeps us turning the pages. My only comment is that in this book we almost suffer an information overload relating to the tribes, this could have been more evenly spread across the books Overall a cracking read thank you
A great finale to this epic trilogy. Karen MacRae created a very intricate fantasy world and at times I was unsure if it would all have a fitting conclusion - but it did, without seeming forced. Anna is a great character, a strong heroine with definite moments of realism. This book was action packed, fast paced, there were a lot of epic scenes and I really enjoyed it. It was a good finale to the trilogy and a great read.
I loved this the final book in the series. This book was better than book 2 in the series and I could not stop reading, I just wanted to know what was going to happen next. I wish we could have learnt about the tribes in earlier books, their powers are scary but something that I would really like to see. Enjoyed the fitting conclusion to this series. Well done!!!!
This series has from the first several pages. I I was trapped in the world for two days with all three books. I was a little disappointed with the ending, but you can't have everything!? A worthy read for anyone who loves epic fantasy! You'll love the heroine and her band of stone bearers. Get ready for a great ride!
I greatly enjoyed the trilogy though I must say the villains were a bit over the top - truly caricatures of evil. I most enjoyed the powers of the tribes.
I had to read this right away and I was not disappointed. So many layers, blending together into any amazing story. I was completely drawn into Anna's world.
Battle of Light vs Dark but with in depth story line that helped see the characters development. It was more than a classic battle as the story unfolded.
The story continued to develop through this book and more revelations were revealed as the story progressed. This was a fitting conclusion to the trilogy that I really enjoyed.
