A return to form for this series as the loose ends from the last 2 volumes slowly get wrapped up. While the previous volume was really quite messy and all over the place, this volume was a lot of more focused.
The book starts with Nephy's lookalike being chased down by her master, Bifrons, serving as the antagonist for the past 3 volumes. Events slowly culminate to a decisive showdown between Zagan and Bifrons, which sees Zagan finally prevailing over him and bringing a sort of closure to this arc.
Of course, this series wouldn't be itself without some sappy flirting scenes between the protagonists and safe to say, there's quite a few of them here.
This book also introduces a few new characters, chiefly amongst them is the adopted daughter of previous antagonist-now-butler, Raphael. The regulars do get enough screentime and Chastille's scenes sometimes threatens to overshadow everyone else, even Zagan, which is great for her since she's quite the likable type.
Ironically, Nephy contributes the least this time, which oddly makes for a nice change as the others get their turn to shine. The series has had a tendency for a while now to rely on her to pull some deus ex machinas in the action scenes, so it does feel good to see the expanded cast get to show off their abilities as well.
Overall, still a nice series to read and even if there are some weakspots in the writing at times, it remains quite a wonderfully imaginative read.
