I will never cease to be both astounded and annoyed by fully grown adults acting like middle schoolers in romance manga. Sweetie, you're a working adult. Let go of the guy you briefly dated in eighth grade and live your life.
Now that they’re dating, Koyori and Hijiri decide to inject some actual dating into their sex lives. While they have trouble finding their bearings, a little communication turns out to go a long way. Then a high school reunion happens and it turns out to be very high school indeed.
Ooh, well, okay, lets see here. Plus side, this is one of the better takes on sex between adults I’ve seen lately, rivalling a less kinky version of Sweat & Soap in terms of the amount of time these two spend getting down and dirty. You will have no questions about their health by the end of this one.
Also, I really like how they both fumble a bit making the transition from friends to lovers. You may know everything about a person, but once you’re even more concerned about what they’re thinking and are in new situations, there are bound to be missteps and this puts that across nicely.
In fact, a lot of the initial friction (the metaphysical kind, not the sex) comes from Hijiri, whose hyper and energetic ‘damn the torpedoes’ style of vacation planning takes absolutely nothing going on with Koyori at the time they depart into account. I like him being on the wrong foot for a bit.
It’s also kind of nice to see them take their foundation as friends and then figure out how to build upon it, which does boil down to a lot of sex in the end, but definitely feels about right for opening stages of a new relationship.
Now that’s well and good and I like that they avoid some missteps with not being honest… then that high school reunion happens.
There’s a great story brewing over Hijiri’s joy at dating Koyori, versus the latter’s embarrassment at the way this plays out, but instead we start a weird descent towards some serious Melrose Gossip Riverdale, 90210 territory.
Turns out that Hijiri’s ex isn’t exactly over him, and when she makes a play and gets ruthlessly shut down because Hijiri’s a class act and deeply in love, well, a woman scorned and all that.
Which is certainly one thing, but this is followed by the revelation that she’s the woman that Koyori’s ex was shagging when he cheated on our heroine. That’s a little preposterous - I don’t especially love these sorts of ‘the world is full of 50 people who all know one another if necessary’ stories.
Of course, this leads to a complicated scheme that feels straight out of an old Archie comic, where the ex lures Koyori to what is 100% a pretence for a date and just as the trap is sprung to close the volume, it goes even dumber.
None of this is necessary. Two people building a relationship is a fine story, actually, and while they’ve been working through some issues, they have already promised to listen to one another, so how bad can this really get?
I mean, don’t worry, I’ll be back - I bet that makeup sex is going to be stellar and I like these two as a couple. It’s just such a weird pivot to introduce a rival and then, after dealing with it, bring it back with total gusto.
Hijiri’s ex is straight out of the ‘nyehehehe’ school of villainy too and I also don’t like the way that Koyori’s totally taken in by her ex. It makes her look incredibly dim, although I do allow that he’s abusing the awkwardness of a workplace breakup, but he’s clearly disrespecting her the entire way, so she shouldn’t listen to anything from him without backing it up.
3 stars - I kind of wanted to give this 3.5 and all because I do love a positive portrayal of sex, but holy cats did the story’s turn drive me a little crazy. It just seems wholly out of place for the strong character work that was going on beforehand.
I don't even know what to say anymore. THIS IS OOZING WITH GREEN FLAGS FOR HERO/INE. I LOVE THE MAIN COUPLE SO MUCH! The cliffhanger was definitely infuriating, I know, but the thing with this series is there's zero miscommunication. They always talk things out, which is refreshing! So I doubt I'll be stressing about this one. We're all chill and smiley here. Okay, and it's like so hot in a fluffy way?! I don't know how but it's that way!! It's decently, and healthily painted!!
And here comes the first problem our new couple is going to face: the ex-girlfriend who is up to no good and who is ready to stir up trouble between Hijiri and Koyori.
Unfortunately, we have the typical mean ex-girlfriend who wants to go back with her ex and who creates tension to make them break up. I thought the manga would have stayed away from those typical characters and plot. However, Hijiri has the best reaction ever, so we steer away from that toxic behavior.
I also enjoyed Koyori’s attitude. Even though she wants to stay mature and that she trusts Hijiri, she can’t help being jealous. The characters are not perfect, they have flaws which makes them realistic. Instead of keeping everything to herself, Koyori tells Hijiri what’s on her mind, which prevents further conflict or misunderstanding from occurring.
Are we going to have an interesting contrast between a healthy relationship with a lot of communication and a toxic one? I see more trouble in the upcoming volumes, and I’m excited to see what is going to happen next.
Pensé que nada iba a ser más hermoso que el primer volumen... but here we are. Este volumen fue tan magnífico that I don't even mind those cheating bastards trying to ruin my ship.
There’s honestly a lot of little random moments that seem like a fight is going to break out for drama, but then the chapter lets the characters clear it up and work through their issues in a way that really feels satisfying but also helps back up that these two characters have been friends so long and really understand each other deeply.
Even when one messes up for real, or another holds in their true feelings, the pair work through it healthily.
It also has a lot of tasteful scenes of the couple together where the art just makes their chemistry shine. The art in general just compliments the story so much.

Wow! Wow! Wow!

this manga series is becoming one of my favorites of all time. i loooooove how adorable and simple their relationship is and it makes my heart flutter. hijiri is such a good boyfriend and i just love how in this volume everything was simple and they were starting to find their balance. I can't wait to read book 3!
The whole situation with the exes is far-fetched and ridiculous. On top of that, I refuse to believe a grown woman is hung up over someone she dated in middle school. Other than that, I enjoyed this volume. It's fun to see their relationship progress! I'm rooting for them.
This is super cute. I was on the fence about how the conflict in a childhood friends to lovers trope was going to work out long term, especially since they were throwing around the L word and talking about their relationship like it was marriage material. But I'm really enjoying it so far. The insecurities that come up and stumbles in communication feel really natural and relatable.
Wasn't expecting it to be a kinda steamy read, but I'm not complaining. It's giving me vibes of Sweat and Soap, which I ADORE.
Only negative is the antagonists in this volume/leading into the next are kinda clown villainesque.
“Doing things to try to test her love, just to satisfy myself, I don’t believe that testing others is a sign of love.”
I thought the ex-girlfriend’s appearance was unnecessary though it was nice seeing Hijiri & Koyori stepping over their first hurdle smoothly with good communication. But I still think it was unnecessary, especially with her conspiring with Koyorim’s ex-boyfriend to split Hijiri & Koyori. Though, I have no doubts that they will walk by the storm hand in hand with ease. I have faith in them and the way they communicate with each other.

I'm really enjoying this series. I just find it very adorable and stress-free. Who doesn't like to read about a couple in their mid-late twenties. It's the awkward time in their life, where they are trying to find themselves. It just gives me a lot of memories in early dating.
Hijiri and Koyori go on a vacation together! It's very cute because they act like a new couple. Koyori wears uncomfortable shoes and doesn't tell Hijiri and at the end of the night she's a little upset. But of course they work it out.
I just really enjoy the couple and the steam is good too!
This volume has been good at settling the issues between the main couple by having them talk it out. They both promise to be straightforward and be honest about their feelings in the future, which is so nice! There is a new drama plot line that's being introduced, involving both of their exes. The main couple is so sweet, but the exes seem to be very bitter. I am interested in how this drama plotline is going to play out. This volume is a bit more explicit than the first. Nothing crazy, but enough is implied then even I was like "Oop!". The art is very cute, I honestly really like it.

I love them!!!! Hijiri is so in love with Koyori it’s making me melt!!!! He’s waited so long to finally get her to see him as a romantic candidate that he’s ensuring that she never doubts him or regrets her decision to start dating. I love that kind of commitment and devotion ❤️❤️❤️. Also he’s so dang cute and seriously hot like wow 😮 lol!!! But it can’t be sunshine and rainbows 24/7! Because her skanky ex is back and so is kinda randomly Hijiri’s very first girlfriend (from middle school 🤣). And it turns out the exes know each other very well. I kinda forget how this whole arc plays out but I’ve already preordered vol 3 so I guess I’ll find out soon enough. I love this series and how real they are. They’re so cute!! They’re still getting the hang of things but they’re getting there!!
Man, I can really cruise through these volumes! I adore the way Hijiri and Koyori are open and honest with each other, communication really is key to relationships! But I detest this former classmate of theirs (and their exes in general) for being so meddlesome, here is to hoping that their love will prevail… Feeling like you are “owed” someone is just gross, people are not objects.
These two are starting to become my favorite couple. I love how he wants her to be honest with him about everything so he doesn't worry about getting something wrong. I love how she was honest with him about her feeling. I also love him how he said he doesn't have to trick her to find out if she love him or not. His ex and her ex wow!!! I can't wait to read more....
This was another great volume! Though I hate the exes trying to cause trouble for our main couple! I just want them to be happy together and the exes are trying to ruin it!
This series sort of reminds me of Sweat and Soap and I loved Sweat and Soap so that is a plus for me!
Definitely going to read more of this series and take advantage of it being on sale!
More of a 3.5 star rating; I like the way that Hijiri’s ex from middle school ended up being involved in the plot and trying to cause drama. That young lady is devious and I’m eager to see how she gets out in her place; also for Koyori’s ex to get his feelings hurt again.
