I watched the drama first in 2020 and then fianlly had the time now to read the novel.
The adaptation added more conflicts and contradictions between characters. Well, they even made us hate Xuanji's father meanwhile in the novel it was not that bad. They also made Xuanji and Sifeng stand on opposite sides, but Xuanji was unwavered and not bothered that Xifeng ended up being a demon. The drama made it dramatic and made up a character to be the big bad villain. They used a sect brother of Xuanji and merged this character with Bailin, which was a choice. I understand that this is their solution to make the story interesting enough when onscreen. I liked stuff from the drama but also stuff from the novel that we didn't get to see. Both mediums were good in their own way in my opinion.
Love and Redemption is still my top one Xianxia drama of all time until this day.
We also got a few bonus stories at the end of the novel. I never thought that I would get a modern 🔞 AU Xuanji and Sifeng story though. Very sexy.
