I was abducted.

They took me from my mates and threw me into a cell with a monster.

But they should have known I’m the biggest monster of them all.

With more and more females disappearing, I need to find out who is really behind all the kidnappings and experiments. But what I discover will test my mates and me…and from the betrayal...hate will bloom.

I have new allies, new enemies, and a whole lot of bodies piling up.

Are you scared of me? You should be.

*18+ Reverse Harem Romance. Warning this book contains scenes and references of abuse/assault that some readers may find triggering. Along with graphic sex scenes and violence. This is a dark book*

I can't believe I even moderately enjoyed the first book enough to give it 3 stars. This book was way worse and so cringe-worthy. You thought nothing happened in book one, well welcome to the sequel where even less that nothing happens, if that's even possible.

She's stuck in a cell with a Minotaur and no one has to tell you that led to sex and her mating with him. The rest of her harem's trying to find her. All their thought process followed the same line: she brought life into my life, I was nothing without her, I can't wait to sink my cock inside her. That's it. ALL of them. Not only that she gathers men like flies to honey. This book there is a possibility that she has three new people in her harem to join the five she already has. I didn't even get to enjoy the smut because it was too much it ended up grossing me out.

Don't even get me started on the pet names. They all have different pet names for her. SO annoying. I'm out, I shudder to even think of what the next book might bring.

A bit too smutty for my tastes!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚❤️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍
Character development: 😉☺️😟😤
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Dawn - she was a normal human woman, who was abused and enslaved by her husband and eventually killed by him. She woke up buried underground and now she is something else. She is a very powerful supernatural and only wanted revenge against her husband, though in getting that revenge, she discovered that there is a group of supernaturals that are capturing and doing something with supernatural females of all kinds. Dawn and the two mates she knew about (Nos and Griffin) were trying to find out more about this group and shut them down.

The Heroes:
Nos - he is an ancient go of lust, fertility, animals and the underworld. Until he felt the call of his mate, he lived in his forest and all he wanted was to be left alone. He felt he was always searching for something, and that itch finally went away when he met Dawn.
Dume - he is a minotaur shifter. He actually had three shifts, but witches put a spell on him, and he lost one of his forms. They kept him chained up in the labyrinth and he broke free when he felt his mate call him. He has been fighting the witches and the council hunters since he broke free and has been trying to get to Dawn since then.
Aska - he is a dragon shifter and the only one of his kind. He doesn’t breathe fire, but breathes darkness or something like that. He woke from his slumber when he felt the call from his mate and has been trying to get to her since then but keeps getting waylaid by hunters.
Griffin - he is a nephilim (half angel, half human). Nephilim were bred to be killers and assassins and were seen as abominations, so were given a choice to die or to be slaves of the council (their assassin force). Griffin thought he would never have a mate, so even though he was called to Dawn, he denied that he wanted or needed a mate.

The Story: The last book ended on a cliffhanger, and at the time Dawn only knew for certain that she had two mates, Nos and Griffin. Nos has been there for Dawn since he helped dig her out of her grave in his forest and plans to be with her forever. Griffin is finally coming to terms with having a mate. Dawn has had shared dreams with Aska but hasn’t yet met him in person and I am not sure she even knows he is real. Dume has been struggling to get to Dawn, but they have yet to meet by the end of the last book.

One thing I didn’t really like was that Dawn got more mates in this book. I know it explained why she might need multiple mates in the first book, but I don’t really like the addition of new love interests after so much effort was put into getting to know each of her four guys in the first book. One of her new mates was a vampire. that she names Ja’ir, who was locked up in the council dungeon with her, Griffin and Dume. Another is Lucifer who is one of the sleeping council. The last is a huge wolf shifter. There were just too many mates and too many intimate scenes. I like more story, less smut. The first book had a better balance.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Celestine Wolfe and Jason Clarke. Jason has a terrific voice and is great at doing different voices for different characters, and Celestine has a pleasing voice. They do a great job and I really enjoyed the narration in both books.

Griffin superiority!!! He should have been the main character, I adore him. There is a certain incubus who can catch hands on sight for what happened to my Bae.

This book was just not enough. Despite it being longer then the last the fact the author added in three more mates was messy and made the already underdeveloped bonds feel even more empty. What’s sad is the actual struggle of the supes, the bigger evil the battle to undergo? That was pretty interesting and if everything wasn’t stopped for random disconnected sex it could have been done really really well.

The first four mates were the best part. They were fleshed out enough by the end to feel something for. Dawn was empty, her chapters mostly just jumping from dude to dude. Which again her story and what we learn about her could have been amazing. That kind of evil origin story? Could have been epic. But instead we focused more on the guys that there was no real connection with.

Dawn should have not been all powerful and all knowing. It was lazy and that makes me sad cause if they had started with her actually needing the guys, because she’s a newborn and entirely unskilled even if she has powers, and then grows and learns from them before taking on the world, that would be perfect. But this was just messy. Dawn goes from abused and broke human to all powerful and all knowing with zero learning? And then the thing she is keeps changing and evolving, just enough to fit every situation so she needs no help from anyone including her menagerie of mates.

In the end the sex bored me because it didn’t serve a purpose. Purpose sex is sexy. This was just gratuitous, which me, a smut slut have never ever said or thought for that matter. But it just didn’t matter because the relationships didn’t matter they were so underdeveloped and empty. There was no gravitas to the end battle, everything always fell exactly into place. And then boom, they are the leaders of all. It was just messy, and Unengaging. I was bored and ready for the book to end by chapter 56.

There was something maybe chapter 58? The guys bickering and Dawn throwing a fit and saying she needs them, then Nos pushing for her to be cared for and everyone else to get fucked. It’s just so wild that they think all seven of them should stop having opinions about one another cause she gets to bang them all. Just so wildly out of touch and makes them all seem weak and fake. It capped my negative feelings here and cemented my rating. They all had to sleep in the same bed? Like they don’t like one another, Dawn just comes across like the worst mate to the menagerie.

The epilogue makes me sad because another good idea for the book to devolve into nothing but Dawn collecting more mates sounds very unappealing. I think the story ends here in my head. It’s painful at this point.

everyone in this book is so unserious that about 90% through the plot changed, ended on a cliffhanger, and there's no sign of a third book :(

THE CAST
dawn aka death mommy

nos aka precious forest fairy bb ILOVEHIMSM

griffin aka mr "i dont need nobody oh wait im in love w dawn HUH"

aska aka can't figure out tech but needs to fuck griff

dume aka moist man

jair aka fan(g) boy

lucy aka lucifer

magnus aka 100% wolf

THE PLOT
in book 1, dawn only had 3 mates (nos, griff, and aska), but the more you read, the more mates get introduced like poor thing give her a break!!! ok so she got kidnapped and is now in the council's house (basement?? idk). she finds dume, befriends him, then has adult time with him. cool. they're mates. then she gets sent to a punishment room and then finds her "vamp" there. they're mates. cool. she awakens lucifer because, yup, they're aLSO mates. vampy boy doesn't have a name so dume names him jair (reasoning is given but idgaf).

griffin (the council's dog) comes in as a maid (unnecessary plot point) and then has adult time with dawn. nos collects some forest folk (i skimmed a lot can you tell), and aska has problems with technology. they defeat the council, and dawn gets appointed the head by lucy. but, oh wait, the dragons have woken up. yup! #givedawnavacation will have to be postponed because they now have to deal with that (cause aska is a dragon). or maybe her vacation is now cause the book ends on a cliffhanger and was released in 2022 and its 2025 so give me book 3 I NEED TO KNOW!!!

THOUGHTS
the plot is braindead but im so invested. 2,5 stars bc i LOVE nos

Smutty, badly written, frustrating, ridiculous. I'm annoyed I fell for the reviews - DON'T DO IT. I couldn't get past 35% of book 2.

* "I'll kill everything if they hurt her" ... he gets there and she's been taken ... "GRRR who's got Jeremy Kyle so I can calm down?!"
* Absent for hundreds of years - but can straight away use a mobile?
* "I'm an ancient, terrifying dragon that destroys and rules all ... he has a stick, damn I need to be careful here, he might kill me."
* Random and out of place "lust" comments just thrown in for no real reason - "we went to the shops, I bought a chicken sandwich, must remember to buy more deodorant, my c**k is hard".
* "what's your plan?" "To destroy his love life, his finances and finally kill him." I was impressed by her well-thought-out plan. (Ermm what plan?!! That's not a thought-out anything!)
* So much inner monologue it's head-spinning, yet there's no real explanation or progression to take from any of it.
* Everything is p***y, c**k and covered in c** to the point it's ridiculous. All. The. Time.
* Every "big bad" creature is a fated mate, no story here they just "are", and they just keep getting bigger and badder. I thought book 1 was busy, then book 2 just keeps on going! We've got a God, a Minotaur, the Devil gets involved. It's like every chapter the author is constantly trying to one-up herself.
* Whole book based on an MC who was heavily abused in book 1, controlled, punched, life torn apart, yet every mate is violent to her and so dominating it's abusive ("mine" claims by everyone (hang on, she just said she wouldn't be owned again?) choking, dropping from the sky, throwing her into a sink in book 2, anal sex to the point she's bleeding and it hurts, and apparently this all turns her on?! Consistency?!)

Honestly, this book is bad. Just... don't.

1.5/5 - And this is why I have issues with Reverse Harem Romance.

When I think of reverse harem I think of erotica (no HEA). I think of all holes used at the same time. I think of gang bangs, I think of swords crossing. KAK books have none of that. There will be a threesome but always the guys are like DO NOT TOUCH ME! Reverse harems don’t work because there are never enough pages to cultivate deep relationships with each guy, so the HEA’s aren’t earned in my opinion. This book had SEVEN guys. Three of them Dawn doesn’t meet until the last 150 pages of the book. Every ‘I love you’ ‘I’ll never leave you’ ‘I’ll never let you fall’ (all said by the heroine to the Heroes) falls empty.

Hate was too much everything BUT plot. Too much blood (in every way - killing and sex), too much sex, too many pages of nothing, and too many mates.

The plot of the book was way far in the background. So many times I asked myself what are we doing here? What’s the mission? The first book is about avenging her death but not death. Her goal is to kill her raping and murdering husband. This book is what? Find the missing female supes? Why? She’s only known she’s a monster for a day and all of a sudden wants to goto war with the baddies? And for her menagerie to track her down - because she was abducted with magic in front of two of her mates.

The mates… in the beginning of this book, a god, fallen, and dragon are trying to figure out where and who took her. They all walk around fighting with each other because multiple males yelling MINE to one another and wondering what they should do. A freaking tree god that’s about as useful as wet wood in a fire pit couldn’t use his god powers to do anything. The only person in their book that does anything useful is Griffin.

Griffin is also the most fleshed out of the mates. We know his backstory. We know his pain. We know his crazy. He has depth. He has a purpose in this book. Everyone else is there for comedic relief or to have sex with Dawn.

Hate had more endings than the movie Return of the King (LOTR 3). By the end I was speed reading, not skimming, to just get the book over with.

And. MARY SUE ALERT! Dawn is the best, most powerful, most everything, everything, everything. She can do know wrong. She has the most mates. Dawn is all that and a bag of potato chips.

Last point. The writing/editing was not done well. Throughout the entire book the first person tense changes in the same sentence. Present to past so many times. Once I noticed it, I couldn’t unsee the grammar mistake and it pulled me out of the book.

I don’t know what to say about why KAK is like crack to me. With all the problems and disappointments I still want to read her books.

3.5 stars rounded up. Did this book turn right off into smutville and barely crawl its way out? Absolutely! There are just a lot of mates and everyone deserves their fair screen time. Obviously our FMC is a collector of mates since we got 3 new ones in this book, but lets be honest she got 3 in the last book as well... each book she should at least perform as well as the last. I feel like the author had to take a turn down smut lane in order to make a connection with each of the guys. I got some conflicting feels about our FMC in this book. Of course I still absolutely love her, but there were some things in this book that really shook her confidence. It seems for the barest of moments our FMC might have just wanted to leave quietly into the night with all her man candy in tow... but lets get real she is in her element amidst murder and mayhem under no circumstances would it be ok for her to do that. Its definitely interesting how the author is painting a destiny and fate for her and her guys. Whereas before it was just revenge now there is a much larger picture with even worse enemies. While it seemed like there was some down time here while everyone "assumed the position" (snicker) I felt like we were getting enough info to move the story further. Not sure I'm a super fan of all the "introspective" moments that it seems every character needed to have to all come to reiterate the same things.. its like all the characters needed their spot in the light to really break down into their feels and decide for themselves to follow/be apart of the movement that is happening. Not only did they need their moment some of them needed several moments to get the point across to the readers. I would have been ok with less of these moments but I'm not mad at it.

War on the horizon, a new leadership role noone asked for.. a devil mate trying to put up a fight. sounds like book 3 is going to have even more kickassery which of course is my favorite part. Book 3 prolly gonna have 3 more mates? Why the heck not... freaking bring it on! My gurl can handle it!

At this point we know to expect the insanity of our FMC, we know there are going to be a ton of smutty scenes, we know that a couple of our mates are probably going to try to kill each other... I'm hoping in the next book we see more cleverness from our FMC and a more proactive take charge attitude instead of just waiting around for things to fall into place. I'm still 100% down for this series and am waiting ever so not patiently for the next book. Yea we all a little messed up, up in here... bring it!

Dark RH with mega monster love.

From the first book....

After dying at the hands of her husband, the FMC is reborn. In her fury, she calls out and attracts some of the strongest and most fierce monsters that ever existed. As they make their way to her, she learns that many female supes have disappeared.

This is a bloody, rage fueled story of rebirth. I loved it.

In some ways this reminded me of the Queen Takes series by Joely Burkhart.

This book is about her captivity and how she overcomes it. It's about finding the missing pieces and putting them together.

Looking forward to the next book.

I looooved book 1, Rage, of K.A Knight's Her Monsters series on audio and book 2, Hate, was just as good!! I thought the narration was on point, that both Celestine and Jason did superb jobs. I loved that even though Jason had so many male voices (more than book 1) to do, that he still changed them slightly so we could tell the difference before they said their name. It impressed me even more than it has done before, especially how different he sounded with the vampire vs Griffin vs Dume for example haha. I think Celestine did a better job in this one than book 1 with her inflections and emotions. I really felt this one (not that I didnt with book 1) but she really brought Dawn to life.

In terms of the story, I think I actually liked book 1 better, but only slightly. I loved that we get to see more from Dawn's other mates and get more onscreen time with the mates she has already met. I loved her reunion with Nos btw. So freakin sweet in a book filled with rage, death, and gore. I thought the backstories were great and getting to learn more about these monsters was super intriguing and only made me want more. I loved the snark and laughter we get with Aska and technology, with Lucifer's nickname, with Magnus and no one knowing at this moment what he truly is. I felt so bad for Griffin in this one, but did think he got a majority of the book in terms of the various mates. Not that it took away from my love of it, just an observation that hopefully some of the others get more onscreen in the 3rd and final book. I think, for me, the reason I would give this 4.5 stars instead of 5 stars for the storyline is because I thought sometimes the steamy scenes outshone/overpowered the story. I think it was while she was in her cell and she went back and forth with the various guys and because of how the chapters were broken up it felt like she was nonstop having sex with them. I love steamy scene, don't get me wrong, I just think how it was sequenced and the frequency in that span was a tad overwhelming. Like if you have too much of a good thing in a short amount of time it diminishes it. Its better that they are somewhat spread out so when they do happen they are more impactful/special. Hopefully that made sense, it did in my head 🤣

This series gets s 5/5 from me, I am like the other reviewers, cannot wait to see what K.A Knight does in book 3 with how this story ended. I won't give away any spoilers, but I hope this big baddy and the battle that will come will be even bigger than what Dawn and her monsters had to endure in Hate. I also hope Magnus is revealed sooooon because I want him and Dawn to connect ❤️❤️❤️

If you like gore and sex this one's for you
Slim on plot - there is one there but with the endless amount of sex scenes it really took a back seat. Still I want the next book and to know what's going to happen with the dragons

This fell… a little flat for me.

description

I really really enjoyed the first book in the series. I gave that sucker 5 stars. I looove characters that have a touch (or a whole lot) of insanity. I love reverse harems. I love paranormal/science-fiction/fantasy/etc. Book 1 and 2 check all those boxes for me, but this book felt… chaotic. A bit sloppy?

description

^A visual representation of me trying to juggle all the new mates getting introduced.

I don’t know how long this book was (I can’t find a page or word count, it just says “locations” on my kindle app but I also didn’t look too hard) but it felt kind of long. I think that was because the story itself was pretty slow at times. Sex scenes made up a significant portion of the book. Don’t get me wrong.. I enjoy those scenes, but it was a lot. I think there was a lot because she had so. many. mates. and (in theory) each man needs a certain amount of sex scenes because… fairness, right? Anyways, that all added up to lots of sex scenes. Like one would end and another would begin. And then she’d walk down the hall and another would begin.

The book also handled a lot of.. social justice issues. I liked to see these parts because I think they illustrated some important issues (i.e. men can be sexually assaulted and yes, they are victims). At some points, however, it felt like the author was creating scenes that weren’t necessary to the overall plot just to emphasize these social justice concerns. But you know what? It’s her voice, her work, and if she want’s to use her voice to highlight those issues who gives a shit what I have to say, you know?

This book was okay, and I am glad that I read it, but I’m not sure if I’ll be reading the next book in the series.

Okay so i felt like this fell a bit flat. I liked the first one which was why i continued reading this series, i just felt like they had some sexual moments every other chapter. Sigh i don´t mind smutt, no not at all, but i feel like you have to have a good balance to both have great chemistry and also build up a good story and characters. I also wanted everyone(the guys especially) to actual show more of how dark and dangerous they was. And i feel like the mc is both overpowered both not at the same time, i like how reckless she is and that she aint afraid to do what she likes and want. But that war in the ending felt a but lame and meek. I mean by how a lot of people said that they are so dangerous they where sort of easily defeated by Dawn...
but still i will read the third book ofc when it comes out

1.5 stars.

This was even weirder than the first one and I definitely won’t be continuing. It was also a lot more boring compared to the first one.

Just way too many mates. Like this girl keeps getting more and more mates. No one needs that much dick.

Females are disappearing, vampires, shifters, humans, and just about every other type of paranormal imaginable. But now the wrong monster has been taken captive. Dawn survived human monsters, she became a monster herself, and now she has a need to protect others. She is determined to destroy those behind the disappearances. They hide behind their position, believing that their superiority entitles them to more. She will show them how very wrong they are.

Dawn is a monstrous masterpiece. She's powerful, uncontrolled, and unpredictable. Her monsters are fiercely loyal. I love their bond, I love how she has brought each man back to life. I love the madness that each character possesses but I don't like how far it goes. Love never includes murder or even the threat of murder in my opinion. I don't find this erotic or enjoyable or necessary. It took me out of the story and I couldn't help wondering what would have happened if Dawn did succumb since the same man claimed he couldn't live without her. Again, this was not for me at all. I lived for the rare moments of vulnerability or open affection shared among the monsters. This showed their true strength much more than the violence. Aside from the attempted passion and gore, the plotline of this book was good. It was complex and multi-layered. New mates, new enemies, new mysteries. So much happened and so much more was revealed for future storylines.

Hate by K.A. Knight is a dark fantasy reverse harem romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Celestine Wolf and Jason Clarke. This is the second book in Her Monsters series.

I love Katie's books! I was pulled in from the beginning and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed getting Nos, Dume, Aska, Griffin, Magnus, Jair, Lucifer and Dawn's points of view throughout the book.

The book ended on another cliffhanger, but that wasn't a surprise since it's the second book in the series. I can't wait for Katie to announce when book three will be released. In the meantime, I am going to have to read the spin off series The Fallen Gods.

Celestine and Jason did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this series if you like dark romances, fantasy romances, paranormal romance, or reverse harem romances.

The book is HOT and Delicious!!!!! They guys make me drool like a teething baby and Dawn is just amazing!!!

We finally get some answers and a huge surprise that had my head spinning. Be ready for blood and smut.

The author reach into my imagination and show me a a world full of pain and monsters, but one where I can play in the darkness. I wish I could create such amazing work.

Left at 73%. I tried so hard to finish this, I really did. Eventually I concluded I’d rather not read another book in my life than to torture myself through another sentence. It’s easily the worst book I’ve ever read. I don’t think it’s been through an editor before release. Fuck this book. 0 stars.

I loved Rage but I didn’t love this one. I feel like some editing needed to be done. We didn’t really get into the plot of the book until 75% of the way into the book. There was so much perspective switching in the first half the book without much purpose to it. Not sure if I would read a third book based on this one.

Holy hell, can I just say hot damn! This book is definitely not for those who can be triggered by certain scenes or those faint of heart. You could say that this story is as dark as they come, it's filled with darkness, violence, and graphic sex scenes. In my opinion, it's perfect! I absolutely adored the first book in the Her Monster series, Rage but Hate went above and beyond that and was one hell of a ride. Katie as always has brought forward another exceptional story.

Dawn adds to her harem of monsters throughout the story and you get a glimpse at some of these characters before you are properly introduced to them. I absolutely adore Dawn, she won't be beaten again and she will protect those that she loves no matter the cost. The whole character is amazing, there are so many layers to her and probably more power within her than even her, or her mates realise.

Each page leaves you shivering with anticipation of what is to come in the next one and it's a hard book to have to put down. I could have quite happily read this story in just one sitting but of course, life gets in the way but I couldn't help sneaking back to it even when I wasn't meant to be.

I will be waiting (im)patiently for book three in this series! All I can say is bring it on!

This book is dark with lots of violence and gore. It's over the top, so to me, it's not disturbing - if that makes sense?
The sex scenes are... violent as well with the FMC needing pain with pleasure. There's a LOT of breath play with the one guy and can be viewed as very harsh. But, it works because she craves the pain along with the pleasure. As long as the female is willing I'm pretty good with it, even though I do think she took the one scene too far for my personal taste. My main point with this, is that I do wish the sexy times were a bit more descriptive vs trying to up the anty and writing a "shocking" sexy scene though.

We are introduced to several new mates - how many does she have now? Lol. BUT... I love all the various creatures and monsters she's mated to. Very clever!
However, I felt like we didn't get enough of certain characters and way too much of Griffin. It felt unbalanced and that he was a favorite; then she'd have to write a sexy scene with another guy to make up for Griffin stealing the show, yet again. For that reason, I didn't rate it 5 stars. 🤷‍♀️

Otherwise, I'm really enjoying the over the top bloody, gory, sexy fest.

Rating- 2 disappointing
Heat- 4

I finished this book, but I will not be continuing the series. While I love a RH, eventually the harems can become too big. That is the case here. We just kept adding and adding. Eventually I began cringing every time we switched the POV from a new male because I knew that meant ANOTHER mate was coming. So many men means there isn’t really any time to see individual relationships. It feels like the connections were just sex. And there is a lot of sex. Since sex was the only connections she had with her mates, she just jumps from one to another. You would think with all that sex and 8 mates, we would at least get some interesting group scenes.

The fact that Dawn has so many mates also felt like a huge plot hole. According to the book, the more powerful a person is, the more mates they need. This means Dawn is extremely powerful. But somehow she has pulled 7 mates that are all very powerful on their own. Most of them are described as being some of the baddest monsters in the world. They are the men the other monsters fear. So why do they only have one mate?

To many men! It is getting ludicrous. Especially as some are portrayed as being gods. The female only seems to remember a mate when she stumbles upon his cock.

This book has about the same amount of substance as a 3rd rate porno. Very violent and bloody sex. No emotional growth.

Burn, baby, burn

Dawn killed her ex, took on human traffickers, discovered supernatural traffickers, shook the mafia, and discovered 2 mates. Learning she's a skinwalker was fun. Learning 1 mate is a really old forest god and another the crazy fallen experimental offspring of an angel was interesting, for sure. Finding out there were more supernatural mates heading her way was a little daunting. Because, seriously, how many men does a girl need? But these aren't just men. They're gods, powerful supernaturals, and more, they're anchors for her power soaked mind. Because with each bond, she's taking on some of their abilities, adding to the chaos, as well as giving her a focus. But the Others want to continue their experiments, build their army of created monsters, cement their power base. And when that investigation leads her to the very beings who're supposed to protect all of them things get tricky. And then she wakes up in a dungeon. Waking up in chains is getting really old.

Spoilers ahead.
So, this was fun. Bloodshed , mayhem, teeth and claws. Trigger warnings for so many things. Torture, trauma, assault, kidnapping, imprisonment, rape (additional characters), medical torture, sexual assault (a mate tangles with a being who misuses a natural power just because they can and a guard {glorified slave allowed to defend} is given a command the he follows but isn't his choice), forced births, and sexual themes (breath play, pain) not for the faint of heart. Bravo for the author addressing a very hushed topic: sexual assaults of males. Yes men can be assaulted. Men don't always want "it" just because they're men and supposedly always horny. No is no, no matter the gender. And for that behavior to be condoned by the council is disgusting. Ignoring it is condoning it by allowing it to continue to happen. The mate assaulted gets his revenge. Dawn is pretty amazing. Not a pretty princess, a fancy figurehead, or just raw power with a pretty face, she's a little monster in defense of her mates, women, and her supernatural and human communities. She enters the premises as a captive. She decides that suits her plans and then the bloodshed starts. They not only created their own demise, they invited it in the door. And while I loved Nos and Griffin, and was getting to learn about the dragon rushing to find her (and arguing with his GPS and human that was less than servant-like), I loved her finding more basically served to her on a platter by the very people trying to break her. A minotaur, a being that loves blood possibly even more than she does, a being of smoke and flame that has caused destruction since the beginning of time, and a being trapped in a form that can't communicate with her. Seven unusual and powerful monsters to anchor the chaos that is Dawn. The world building is excellent. We aren't just presented facts and people. There is worlds within worlds laid before us and we're given insight on each, while the plot is dragging us laughing and screaming behind it. Background characters aren't just single use props, mates aren't interchangeable tools, bad guys are bad guys but also complex characters in they're own right. This may be a dark series, but its gallows humor and joy of destruction resonate. It isn't just dark to be broody and moody, useless drama. It's leading us down a dark path so we can appreciate the light when we and where we find it. While the steamy scenes can get to be a bit much, it balances the destruction going on. And shows a decent juggling of personalities and time among her mates. It also isn't the entirety of the plot. We have plots, sub plots and tangent plots converging to add to the chaos. And while there's mystery, it isn't due to a lack of understanding of these created worlds. An author can snag a reader with a single book. To be able to keep them through the transition of a second in a series is hard. Knight not only kept her world going, she added several new ones, destroyed a couple, and didn't overwhelm or bore readers.

It started out well….

Book one was intriguing and relationships between the guys in book one were on pretty solid ground when the book ended. Then it all went to hell. Which sucks because I really think every single guy they added to the harem was interesting. Their powers were cool they were super strong. They all could’ve fulfilled different roles and made a great unit if it was done properly. Why are we only physically meeting 2 mates in book one and then we get like… 5 more in book 2. We knew about 2 of them bc we saw their POV but she didn’t meet them until book 2. If the author intended to do a harem this large we should’ve tackled at least half in book one. As it stands we have one mate who remains in animal form and she literally just thinks he’s a pet… YES STILL AT THE END OF THE BOOK. One mate who is the devil himself & is just basically MIA. All of them but the 2 from the beginning just show up, tell her their life story in 2 mins, fuck her 50 times and instant love. It’s repetitive. Additionally it’s been 5 years since this book came out and considering this was not a true ending and nothing was resolved I’m guessing she decided not to write book 3. Wish I had known before I wasted my time. As ridiculous as this book was I still would’ve read one more just to get some fricking closure.

Back to the connections… the first 2 mates were around so long we felt we had a little bit deeper connection than just all the sex they were having at least with them. The others… not so much. Don’t get me wrong I’m a total smut slut but not at the expense of them deepening their bond or fleshing out characters. I’m greedy. I want both. It seems the sex was used as a tool to make it seem more believable that she is “so close” to all her new mates when the reality is they don’t know shit about eachother. As much as I love my books filled with the nastiest smut available that becomes shallow and surface level when they are not emotionally connecting or even shown interacting outside of the intimate scenes.

This is more of a rant and so I should take the time to be nice and mention that I did like Dawn. I did like her craziness and how unhinged she was. I loved her backstory and watching her grow. I just think the way the mates got treated made me start feeling some type of way about her after awhile. I think the little bit of plot we had could’ve been expanded into something totally brilliant but we are barely given that. I just see so much potential here and instead we are left off without any real ending or conclusion. So yeah… your girls feeling irritated af about that.

My feelings:

Wahhhhh why is book 3 not out! I thought this was a completed series.

“A natural disaster, that’s what she is. Strong, powerful, untrained, and wild, and we are just swept along with her.”

But I noticed this was published in 2020 so im not sure we are gonna get an ending:(

“Picking it up, I press lots of buttons. “This is car 418, we have been knocked unconscious.” There, that was nice of me.”

I loved this series! I love monster revere Harem. With lots of possessive alpha holes!

“Don’t be afraid to love, Griffin, it’s scary, unpredictable, and imperfect, but it’s also beautiful, life affirming, and the reason we live. We search our whole lives to love someone, and when you find them you hold on tight and don’t let go. You love everything about them, every quirk, every flaw, every failure because it shows you who they really are, that they love you enough to show you them.”

THE SPICE ELVEL IS PERFECTION

“Fuck those dumb bitches in movies, I’m the villain and nobody is killing me.”

I just need a book 3 please.

“And that is what you do for those you love. You love them so completely, so fully, even when it’s hard or it hurts, especially then. It’s when they need you the most. It’s not always easy or pretty, but I’m learning that love is both selfish and selfless. You can’t love without both.”

This was an amazing dark and delicious book and a highly anticipated sequel to the most beloved book from this author - Rage. And I expect that we will all be drooling in anticipation of the next book in this series.
The author did an amazing job expanding the world she created, developing characters further and evolving their relationships. Not only that the book is fast paced and million things happen, but the author paid so much attention to details, addressing unanswered questions from the previous book, giving an incredible backstory to each of the characters.
The continuous shifting of the viewpoint for each chapter adds so much to the character development and the pace of the book that regardless of the size, this book is a fast read. I devoured it in a day. We finally get to meet some characters the author was hiding in the previous book and they are incredible.
Dawn is still wild, crazy dark twisted lovable self, perhaps all these attributes getting more pronounced with the growth of her power, and so are her relationships with each of her mates. Her mates are also dark and delicious and their chemistry is off the charts. This book is even hotter and steamier than the previous one if that's even possible, and the love in this book is overflowing the pages.
The story is incredibly interesting, so masterfully plotted and the author addresses some seriously important and relatable issues, which made me love her even more. I did not think that was possible. I can't wait to read more from this author, whatever she decides to give us next, because I know it is going to be amazing.

Dawn is back and with her are her monsters, some old, some new and a couple undecided. But oh my! B.O.B. will be needed while reading this and make sure there's a backup and some spare batteries...the heat level in this would give Lucy a run for his money. I love the relationship between Dawn and her monsters. They all bring something to the table and all give her something she needs. Getting to know them and their brand of crazy is way too fun. There's the forrest god, 1st mate and the one who looks out for her best. The fallen who is psycho and keeps you on your toes but his broken gets Dawn's broken. The dragon who takes possessive to a whole new level but is hilarious in his lack of modern day knowledge. This book gives a better glimpse of her monster of the labyrinth and...man I recommend a fan and ice water. Finally we are introduced to 3 more and I can't wait to see what happens with 2 of the 3 since they're sitting on the fence.

As for the story line, more revelations are made, secrets uncovered and Dawn fights the good fight, letting all of that hate and rage fuel her. She learns some valuable lessons about trust and second chances in this book. In the end she proves she's so much more than just a pretty package. I loved the story and am intrigued by where it is heading. Hate never felt so good!

I was definitely more pleased with this book than the first one in the series, so I’m glad I continued despite my hesitation. The plot from the first book was finally addressed and resolved. However, the upcoming development of a war with the dragons seems pretty boring compared to what has happened thus far.

Again - must every encounter with her mates include a sex scene? I will admit that Nos (the forest god) suddenly growing a second d*ck like that of a snake was intriguing and quite different, but dang can we focus on the plot for two seconds?

I did enjoy the addition of Lucifer to Dawn’s harem. He definitely made things more interesting. That said, Dawn will now have seven mates, and based on how the end of the book went, she definitely does not have time for all of them (and doesn’t even know about one of them yet). I get that some time with her is better than nothing, but I can’t imagine each male will be satisfied with the way she splits her time between the other six, while also saving the world (basically).

If Jair (pretty sure he’s actually Dracula) at least wasn’t involved, it would be a lot easier to divide her time. He’s pretty expendable in my opinion. I can enjoy a large RH like anyone else, but Dawn really doesn’t seem to be great at time-management between her mates.

Second book

I gave second book a try .I liked the first all right little plot same as This one . The book was like 80% sex and 20% plot. Almost like the writer couldn't bring her plot out to fullness. No build up just here is this person and why all at once. Introductions of plot char( not mates) were threw in and basically never fully explored .. There was absolutely no world building at all. Even tho it was our earth the supernatural and old boss were just threw in there. We get Gabriel ( the angle) and he tell her he took the original gods power and placed it in her. That's it . That's his 5 second role before an angle that somehow pulled off getting original powerful gods power from them and then he ......dies.?.?.? so easily?hmmm . So how did he get those most powerful gods stuff? Yep you got it never explained just take it as fact. So writer basically could not write plot very well so instead filled every encounter with a mate ( sometime multiple times) with ?!ugh sex. Oh a mate walked in door??? Sex. Oh mate said hi ?? Sex. And let's not forget the stopping for sex at every turn while being captive and during actual taking.our plan out. So like let's free these monsters ..but first ..sex . Hey I opened a cell door...sex. ... Get it ? Yep the main.plot was??? SEX..got old fast
