Texas Kings MC #8

John & Mattie

Rate this book
John and Mattie have been best friends for years, and share everything...including women. The two disagree on what kind of woman they might find to keep forever and have both given up until a woman on a mission steps into their path. They'll have to get through more obstacles than a normal couple might, especially since bullets are flying around them.

Maria is on a mission to leave her old life behind, but falling in love with two men is not what she imagined her future to hold. Is this a life she can accept or will all of the hurdles they make it through be for nothing?

This one hurt. I have LOVED this series! It has been such a wonderful escape from some serious stress. I’ve loved the love between the characters, but MORE than that, I have loved the family and friendships. I have loved the unconditional support. All of those things were missing in this book. Maria had a crappy story. She chose to make big changes, and took a chance on two great guys! When she learned that she was pregnant, OF COURSE she experienced fear at the thought of bringing her baby into a world of violence. Absolutely NO ONE supported her or even listened to her fears. She said one or two sentences about her fears and was immediately demonized! These two men turned their backs on her completely! Their “family” treated her like she didn’t exist, and her two “best friends” shamed her and attacked her.

Maria was left completely alone in her most vulnerable moment.

John and Mattie weren’t in the same league as the other Kings. They shut-down and walked away from their woman without any attempt to work things out. They didn’t live up to the standards set by the other me. In this world.

Martha was the only love-able original character in this book.

I don’t think anyone redeemed themselves in this book. I hope we get to see some redemption in later books.

Two hit guys. Holy shit someone bring me some damn ice water. Fuck this one had some hot moments in it.
This was totally different from the other books and just as awesome too. I'm literally eating this series. I love it that much.
Now on to the next book!

John and Mattie have been best friends since they can remember and with that they share everything, including their women. However, they disagree on if they can have a relationship that will last with a woman to share. When they meet Maria they both know they want a chance with her but convincing her that a relationship will work is altogether another matter. Maria agrees to one night but longs for more, can she take a chance and will John and Mattie be willing to give her a second chance when she runs scared?

I liked this quite a bit, I was hesitant to start it after reading some comments about Maria but I felt that her feelings were very realistic and honest. John and Mattie are a terrific team, great read cannot wait for the next book.

4.6 stars.
This was a good one.
I really liked seeing these 3 build the foundation of their relationship.
It was hot, with good humor, and, as always, fantastic side characters.
Drama was pretty low compared to some of the other books.
And we do see the boys with a couple of girls before they meet Maria, but nothing on page and they’re honestly on their way out so I wasn’t too upset about it.

The only thing I would’ve liked more is if we got to see more After they got together. I wanted to see dates and them hanging out.
This book is really just them finding their way Into the relationship, then a couple short epilogues a few months after that are pretty vague and mostly about other couples from the series.

I really enjoyed it.
And the sex was steamy and sexy. But I just wanted more time with all of them.

So this one drove me nuts so often! Communication was at the root of all their problems, had the 3 of these people talked more from the start things would have been so much better for them. You would have thought they would have learned their lesson the first or second time, but no...it was time and time again. And often it wasn't just with the 3 of them, Maria was very rigid in her thinking, I liked it when Willow, her BFF, ripped her a new one, it needed to happen. But with that said, when Maria ripped the boys a new one over meeting the parents that needed to happen, along with John ripping Maria a new one when their whole relationship was on the line. I'm glad things got better by the end, glad that everyone worked things out, but man...it was exhausting getting there.

What a big disappointment this one is! What a crock!!!! I am so upset and sickened by the treatment this character receives by all involved.
Of course, the woman is the one that is "wrong" and made to come crawling back to the big, strong men. I wanted to throw up!!!
I had liked the way it started. Both men pursued this poor woman, Maria, and really wooed her. As a person who did not know anything about life in the MC community, Maria is really thrown into the deep end of the pool.
When Maria discovers some very concerning elements of the MC community and tries to withdraw herself and her unborn child, she is vilified and ostracized the lovely MC "family," by the supposedly "best friends" and by the two men who "love" her. Yea, right!!!
Martha, the mother-figure and heart of this "family" has a heart-to-heart with one of the these two stupid men, she points out the way that Maria might be feeling. The guy actually admits he made a mistake!!!
What happens? Maria comes crawling back. I wanted to scream!!!! How dare the author make her the heavy? Why does Maria have to come to them? Why don't these idiots see the "errors of their ways?"
If I were Maria, I would left these spoiled and mean-spirited goons and gone away to have the baby. If they were lucky, they might be given visitation rights!!!
The author missed the boat on this one! I am still angry, days later.

Ehhhhh

I have really enjoyed the entire series! But this one is so not at the same level. Its more about the difference between Maria and the “ boys” than anything. The little bit of drama with the shootings is all there is, leaves the story kinda flat. The MC sorta snubs Maria when they break it off and yet the story never explains how that turns out so it is left hanging. I would have thought there would be some drama with both Taylor and/or Jordan but nope. A little more drama in the town with the 3 of them as a triad but nope. Other than Lout and Hank no other characters are really brought into the story, and that has always happened in previous books so its a let down. Would have appreciated reading the interaction with Maria and the MC especially with Hank after his big snub. Author mixed up Maria and Autumn names early in the book. Overall disappointed.

I enjoyed the characters as always with this author's works. This story was a bit frustrating as I am not a big fan of miscommunication books. This one irritated me because....spoiler...the heroine simply states she isn't sure she can deal with raising a child when her fathers and her are commonly shot at. Mattie goes off on her stating he will never give up his club for her or their child. John just goes along with what Mattie told him. There was zero discussion. Neither happened to mention that being shot at wasn't common nor the reason for it. The information they gave her was very limited and condemning especially so since she has no information on this MC and only one month of interactions with them or the community. I just thought the whole thing was stupid and disrespectful to Ria. Martha talks to Ria and gives her the missing info and yet Ria is still made out to be the untrusting on...even after the two men kept a huge but unrelated secret from her on purpose.

I loved this book. I was actually happy that it wasn't just about the sex but more about the relationship. There is so much more to life than just the sex after all. I loved getting to know John and Mattie because before this book they were just in the background, heard their names all the time and there were some major happenings with them involved. Finally getting to know Maria was also great. She sure is a spitfire but I wouldn't expect anything else from the person who is Willow's best friend. The added bonus was Autumn - she is an absolute blast. I laughed so much throughout this whole book. Looking forward to reading Bear's book next.

I'm in the middle of rereading this series but won't be rereading this one. I'm still upset over how Maria was treated and it's been almost a year since I read this the first time through.

You can have drama without making well-developed characters act like children who can't communicate. Usually this author does fairly well with that. She missed the mark in a few of the books in this entire interconnected series, though, and this is one of them for me. She still gets 3 stars because I love the rest of the series so much still.

I gave the first half 3 stars, I liked where it was going. But I wasn’t able to connect as much to the second half. I just felt like she really deserved some groveling from the men and some huge apologies from the Club. This is just my opinion but I felt like there were gaps in the story we were told quickly about instead of experienced. I do want to read more in this series to see what happens with other characters.

Probably my least favorite of the series so far in part because John & Mattie do not try to explain anything to Maria about the violence going on with the club. It was mostly because of Maria though. She went into the situation planning to use both men when they told her they were serious, then she stayed with them until things got real and wanted to change them. This just did not fit with the other books in the series.

Frustrating

I've really enjoyed the series until this book. John, Mattie and her friends had absolutely no compassion for Maria. Frankly, her 2 closest friends were complete B's. The previous books all showed a strong sisterhood but this one had none of that. I didn't really feel the love from the guys for her either, just sex . Wish I had skipped this one.

The h could get on my nerves. When she wanted the boys to quit mc, I was so happy that Willow put her in her place. This a three way relationship. She gets pregnant with twins.

I'm loving this series.
I tried reading one of this author's books a while ago, one of the ones from the Rojo, TX series, and struggled to follow along because the story is so intertwined with this author's other series that I couldn't really enjoy it (nothing really made much sense because nearly every character was already established in the story and I had no idea who they were or what they were talking about half the time).

But I read another one of her books recently which led to me going back to another one of her series and I've been flip flopping through all of there books and I really like this series, the Texas Kings MC.

It's a different kind of MC series that isn't so much focused on the MC as it is on the people and I love the characters Cee has created.

However, I did not like this book.

Honestly, I shouldn't have read this one. I haven't been reading the books in order... but I have a pretty good understanding of the characters and have loved them all up until reading this book.

FYI... spoilers are imminent.
You've been warned.

Anyways...
So, our main character has some doubts about being in a relationship with members of a motorcycle club. Understandably considering all the violence she's witnessed in the short amount of time she's known them and how often they mention some of their previous interactions.
Her men, John and Mattie, don't really fill her in on what's going on at all. They just expect her to accept it and not ask any questions.

Which, given that sometimes they do things that they can't really talk about... it's understandable. However, they should at least try to give her some sort of insight... something to ease her worries but its very black and white for John and Mattie: either she accepts them and their MC blindly or they're done with her.

What I didn't like is that literally everyone in the story turned their back on the main character. Harshly judging her for what they saw as her being judgmental.
Hypocrites. Amiright?

Her best friends are among those who disagree with her and both essentially call her dumb, turn their backs on her and ice her out without listening to her concerns or attempting to alleviate some of her worries. They just hear that she's not sure about being affiliated with a motorcycle club and assume that Maria sees all bikers as less than her or whatever it was that had their panties all in a twist.

Ultimately, Maria gets shunned by nearly everyone. So she's and all alone in a town where the only people she really knows have turned their backs on her.

I've liked Willow and Autumn in the other books. Not so much anymore.

After all that, I started skimming just wanting to be done with the book because I really didn't like how harshly everyone was treating Maria in light her of her skepticism when it comes to bikers. What really irks me is she didn't say anything bad about them, she was just concerned about raising kids where people are constantly being shot at or attacked. It's a logical concern to have. She's not insulting the bikers. A lot of the stuff they are upset with Maria about, she never really said... Mattie just assumed and spouted his theories to John and it spread like that.

What's really annoying is that no one apologizes. Maria confronts the guys says she misses them and that she can deal after all because she's lonely and that's that.

Neither Willow nor Autumn ever apologized for how harshly they treated Maria. Her guys don't really apologize either for the way they handled the situation... and they were at fault, at least partially, because they assumed a bunch of stuff based of a few concerns Maria mentions and don't ever really talk to her. Instead telling her how it has to be and if she can't be on board with that then they can't be with her.

Maria just moves on from it and we're supposed to move on too. I'm not so forgiving.

But whatever.

Idunno... I didn't like it.
Like I said, I've loved these characters but reading how poorly Maria was treated kind of turned me off from the series. Also, I kind of wish Maria had more of a back bone about it all as well.

One thing I love about this author is her female characters are sassy and take no 💩. Maria was sassy and usually didn't take any 💩, but at the same time, towards the end there, she kinds of turns into a doormat.
I don't like doormat heroines.

So, yeah... I'm kind of wishing I just skipped over this book altogether because I'm seeing some of my favorite characters in a different light and I just didn't like this one very much.

I'm sure I'll still read the other books in this series that I haven't gotten to yet, but I will be holding my grudge against Willow, Autumn, Hank, Mattie, and John.
Which means I probably won't read Hank or Autumn, or Willow's books.

Do you believe in Psychics? A BF returns to Rojo - can she find her balance?

I do NOT consider it to be a STAND-ALONE read. Cee Bowerman authors multiple series set within Rojo, Texas and they are intertwined. There is a correct reading order and it can be found on her website (ceebowermanbooks.com). These really do need to be read in that order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers as there are multiple reoccurring characters, details that cannot be adequately recapped within the scope of another story that contributes to the story universe (world building), with past and concurrent timelines and overarching themes.

** There are some scenes that will be a trigger for sensitive readers. I have included examples below. Also, if you have not read the previous story in this series, the following may contain SPOILERS **

Another great story in Rojo, Texas! John and Mattie have been best friends since elementary school. John had a horrible home life with a single mother that cared about partying, drugs and alcohol more than being a mother. Mattie had a great home life. He was raised on a farm with great parents and a bunch of brothers and sisters, but all of the kids were teased and taunted when they went to school in town.

Maria was the childhood best friend of Willow and moved away for love. The two kept in touch, but it become more infrequent as time passed. She got married and became an attorney that was focused on making partner. When she was on the cusp of achieving that goal, she fainted and was transported to the hospital where she was diagnosed with ulcers.

Maria knew she needed to make changes for her health, but the point was driven home when no one called, texted, or checked on her in any fashion, and that included her husband. When she was released from the hospital, she started walking home because she didn’t have her purse, phone or money, then it started to rain. Maria ducked into a doorway and a woman named Amelie invited her in. Normally she wouldn’t accept an invitation like that from someone she didn’t know, but Maria immediately felt like she could trust her.

After something to warm her up, Amelie told her she was surrounded by color. That she was smothered by blue and gray, needed to go west to find her balance in the light and dark, and where Maria would be supported by the arms of a strong tree in the red place. None of that made sense to her, but after Amelie’s husband brought her home, Maria knew she needed to make some changes. First thing she did was kick her husband out of her condo, received a call from Willow’s mom and decided along with her current best friend, Autumn, to visit Rojo.

When Maria disembarked from Autumn’s private plane, she meets John and Mattie. They are there to pick them up before Willow’s wedding to Lout, one of their brothers. Their attraction to her was very strong. Mattie is convinced they need to find their woman, but John is just as convinced that he has no interest in doing so and that “she” doesn’t exist. When they meet Maria, Mattie is sure she is the one, but will John, and more importantly Maria, give them a chance?

One last note before I wrap this part up for readers not sure about the genre … the MC genre contains several different branches from sweet to outlaw to one percenters. While the Texas Knights MC is in the middle imo, the Texas Kings MC is more of the outlaw variety. Both focus on love, brotherhood, families and support, but the Texas Kings also bring vengeance to the table.

⛔️ The interwoven SERIES contains references to, or scenes detailing, subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including, but not limited to: adult language; derogatory terms; mental health challenges; steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, (play) spanking for pleasure, restraints, “bottom” play, breath play, sensory deprivation, voyeurism, exhibitionism, etc.; violence such as kidnapping, abduction, murder, death, torture, assault, fighting, alcoholism, betrayal, coercion, blackmail, rape, attempted rape, stalking, threats, subterfuge, money laundering, cheating, prostitution, human trafficking, mafia / cartels, arson, drug use, drug addiction, drug manufacturing, drug distribution, as well as the mental, physical and sexual abuse of females and/or children, polygamy, etc.

** Caution: The series contains scenes with reference to, or detailed graphic violence against females and children that fit into the storyline, but may be a trigger for some **

There are a few grammatical issues in this story. I highlighted a few of the errors and uploaded them to Goodreads.com for anyone interested. One of those include an incorrect name. I am mentioning these issues for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.

One of my favorites in the series…so funny 😆

I love this series! For a long while I just read the books as they came out. Once the series started including the other series I decided to every so often to reread the books.

There is a lot going on in this book that it’s definitely a read then read again so you can catch the nuances you missed the first time. Also, please do NOT follow the reading order on the Author’s website, you’ll just be confused as I was. Read all the books up to and including Tucker in order, than read this book without reading the Epilogue, then Finn, then Kale & Terra, then Angus (don’t read the epilogue on that one either), finally go back and read the epilogue for this book, then Angus.

My only complaint about this book is the out of order information AND there’s still one situation that has been in this book & Kale & Terra that I’m still trying to figure out (its mention in Kale & Terra, this book, and Finn, but not explanation). Reading this book before Kale & Terra clears up plot holes from that book.

Action ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Believable storyline & overall plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Entertainment 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Spicy 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️
Triggers 🚩
Writing style & written format ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall a solid 4/5

Note the lower the 🚩 the better, meaning not many triggers & defines it as a romantic read not dark romance.🥰

I liked John and Mattie but did not like Maria at all.
First, she's vegetarian.
She's supposedly smart because she's a lawyer but then can't keep track of her birth control?
She's too much of a feminist. She spent her whole life doing what feminism dictates what women should do/be and yet it made her miserable and sick.
She was only in the relationship for the sex since she had never had good sex before. I don't believe she truly loved them since she went into their situationship just to use them for sex and her "love" came with strings and restrictions.
There was a drive by shooting and Mattie protected her but she's going to lecture him about that? What a b****! That's what REAL men are hard wired to do....PROTECT!! How would she have felt if he stood by and let her get shot? She's just plain stupid.
There was too much excessive use of endearments, too much with the song naming. Am I supposed to stop what I'm doing and immediately look up some stupid song I've never heard by an artist I've never heard of because the author keeps inserting it into the story? I might as well not read it then since I'd be spending more time looking up songs.
Too much gratuitous sex inserted that did not progress the story but just highlighted how much Maria was only in it for the sex.
I really did like the scene where Willow ripped her a new one for being a judgemental b****.

Seriously it was so much better then I imagined or expected!!! I was drawn in & got lost in the story. Love it all from beginning to end. I will admit you made me hungry with your little food snippets on the top of every chapter.

Spoilers:

When I got the the dinner scene during Maria trip to John & Matties parents house I had to re read that part over. Cause I was like wait a minute they have a Dad & POP & both kissed the mom Cora!! Then I internally screamed like yes! More Hot Men!

The Book was beautiful written for ménage. Most Ménage book get graphic with sex scenes yours were taste full & still held that sizzle. & Usually the writer spends a lot of time on sex scene & don’t spend time on building relationships between characters. I really loved this cause even though they had sex quickly there was a lot of character build & I loved fact that there was also some solo time with each guy & wasn’t always the 3 of them.

I really enjoyed the Snippets on upcoming books at the end.... I’m looking forward to Angus book in Connor Construction series & Autumn & Bears Book!

You’ve come a long way Cee & I’m so happy I found your series! Keep it up! & I love the changes you’ve made, by adding Chapters & quotes/thoughts from the characters. & upcoming books!

Cee Bowerman writes the most perfect stories. They’re a combination of sweet, extremely sexy and hilariously funny and unfortunately over way too quickly. John and Mattie’s story is a little different...best friends who share everything and want to share a life and family with one special woman...not an easy task. Enter Willow’s friend Maria. High powered Lawyer who’s quest for her perfect life has left her with dangerously high blood pressure, uncaring employers and a jerk...soon to be ex...husband. A chance meeting with a caring stranger and a phone call from a friend has her heading to Rojo and into a very different life. As I said before, this book is different from her previous books, but it still has Ms. Bowerman’s signature flair and was just as amazing as previous reads. Loved John and Mattie in prior books and loved that they got their own story and Maria is a fun addition to the Texas Kings MC family. Also so happy that we were able to revisit other occupants of Rojo, their craziness is always so funny. Excited to see what Ms. Bowerman comes up with next!

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. I don’t really like thruples as I find the books too confusing and exhaustive to remember which POV I’m reading. Also the spice scenes are normally so convoluted trying to explain what everyone is doing that the spice is lost.

But I felt this was a little easier to get my head around as it was written so basically and hardly any spice.

I think my issue with this series is all the twins! And they happen to be the one in 40 million that have fraternal twins one from each first go? Then she’s pregnant a month in? IDK it just seemed so far fetched.

I found all the characters pretty basic TBH. One dimensional and no depth whatsoever.

I also found the reading order confusing. The novella before this one should have been after this one. And both this and the novella reference Jenna’s accident and I feel like I’m missing something.

One again an MC romance where there is no MC just mentions in passing about the activity. I’m also getting forgetful as to who is with Knights and who is with Kings.

Wow! Once I started it I couldn't stop!!

From the very first line I knew I'd be laughing my as$ off , with this author you can just tell. Boy was I right, Maria gave these two a right chase ! ( that's Texan slang) I loved how she handled ALL the changes in her life with the sarcasm and humor flowing. John and Mattie were so interesting to see in there home environment, ALL I can say is WOW to that! I definitely recommend this book to everyone and honestly if your not into menage then skim over those scenes (although they're really hot) the rest of the book is definitely worth the read!!

Wow

This book came out in a perfect time! I’ve been waiting to see how Cee was going to approach an MFM relationship. And I have to say she did an amazing job. Most MFM books that I have read (which is a lot) concentrate on sinfully kinky sex, Cee focuses on the relationship between the characters. She touches on multiple topics regarding “unconventional” relationships, such as public shaming. As I’ve said in previous reviews, there is nothing wrong with adults having consensual sex in anyway they want whither it’s two people, three or an orgy. As along as the doors for communication and trust there. Thank you Cee for bringing us to your world.

John, Mattie & Maria

Ménage has never been so good. I so enjoyed this story. I enjoyed the familiar characters from Texas Kings & Texas Knights. This is a standalone, but reading the series will provide hours of enjoyment and further enhance enjoyment of this book. John and Mattie are brothers both in the MC world and in a An adopted way. The romance between men and Maria is rocky, sweet, volatile and exciting .... ahhh so rewarding. Enjoy. Can’t wait for Bear and Autumn’s romance to be told next in this series.

I LOVE these books...and I read a LOT of MC series. My new favourite author! There isn’t a character that I don’t absolutely love. One Texas King can blow your mind...but TWO Texas Kings?!?!

Both story and character development are superb! My only complaint is editing- to tighten up accuracy and consistency ie: wrong names or details from previous books. But minor and likely due to my eye for detail and the rate at which I am consuming her books! The author has created a world in Rojo, Texas, that I can’t get enough of. I can’t wait for the next book!

I wasn't going to read this cos menages aren't really my bag.

Weird this is... this was... kind of bland. It felt like it was almost a paint by numbers exercise in this particular trope. The real positive for me was Martha. I have gone through several books not really liking her... it felt like she was trying to be portrayed as some kind of Ma Barker via an Old Lady type of person... so unlike the Martha we met when she was sleeping her car. I liked that Martha. And I liked this Martha. So, that is a positive.

Another amazing story from Cee Bowerman!!!!💘💘💘

I love Cee's books! She take you on an emotional journey with characters you wish were a part of your family. I laughed and cried and once again wished I could move to Rojo Texas! John and Mattie have been favorites of mine in several of the previous books, and I was so happy when I learned they were getting their own book. Maria comes to town, fresh from her divorce, beautiful and snarky, and the chase is on!

I’ve read ménage books before and while I enjoyed them they aren’t my first choice. So I went into this with some trepidation.

Well chapter one grabs you and then you go on one wild ride. She gets the power of three with Willow and Autumn and then the best power of three with John and Mattie.

Thoroughly loved every minute I spent reading the story of Mattie and John’s journey to happiness. Maria was a spitfire and I think she is another Martha in the making.
