Virtually Gone is the sixth book in the High-Tech Crime Solvers Series-contributed by Jacquie Biggar. The High-Tech Crime Solvers Series is a multi-author collaboration, each bringing their own story to the mix while using an interlocking cast of characters as well as the high-tech crime solving theme.
I was so excited to read this book after seeing the title of this book, and series. I love a good mystery/crime story- and the ‘high-tech’ component increased the intrigue for me. Add Ms. Biggar to the mix and I couldn’t one-click quick enough. Ms. Biggar is one of my go-to authors, whenever I see her name pop up, I know I am going to be getting a great read. So having said that- I must admit that I haven’t read any of the other books in this collection- and now feel that perhaps I should have, as there were a few instances in this book where I felt as if I were missing something, or should have known more about the circumstances, but didn’t. This is the first time I have come away from one of Ms. Biggar’s books feeling just a little disappointed. Don’t get me wrong- this is an interesting and entertaining story, but I had such high expectations for it and I was expecting to be blown away by it- so I feel like there was a bit of a missed opportunity to make this book incredible.
I will try to explain why I feel this way. The story was building to be quite a suspenseful cat-and-mouse game- but fell a bit short- I think there needed to be more tension, suspense and drama. I felt that the story was a bit rushed and cut short in places where the tension could have been developed more- with just a little bit ‘more’ story and development that this book would have been stellar. Overall, I just felt like I was missing details, that important parts of the story were passed over- which makes me wonder if these details are contained in the other books of the series? While the story was quite detailed and descriptive in places- we could have done with a little less detail on the ‘scenery’ and more details on the more important aspects such as the backstory, character details, the cat and mouse game, and the ‘high-tech’ components. The depth, drama, suspense, and psychological tension were lacking for me. There were also a few contradictions in the storyline, as well as continuity issues. I really wanted to be blown away by this book and feel bad that I can’t give this the five stars that I was expecting to.

Thank you, Jacquie Biggar!

Virtually Gone is part of a multi-author series (this is number six of eight), but can easily be read as a standalone.

Although a quick read, the author provides just enough backstory to introduce the characters without bogging down the pace of the novel. I immediately cared about Julie, a widow who’s tentatively allowing herself to love again. There’s potential for conflict as she’s an ambitious journalist and her boyfriend is a detective – who’s also working the case she’s investigating. Detective Matthew Roy is frustrated a rapist is still running free, but not just from a professional standpoint. He also has a personal interest in the case.

The villain’s arrogance is maddening. He has a seriously skewed vision of himself as someone whose superior intelligence will prevent him from ever being caught. You just really want this guy to get what he deserves for all the despicable things he’s done. As a science geek, the DNA phenotyping used to help track him down fascinated me and was an element I especially enjoyed.

This is a tightly plotted, well-paced thriller that can easily be read in a couple hours and one I’d happily recommend to fans of the genre.

A reporter on the trail of a story and a detective hunting a criminal. When their paths converge, will they find common ground or irreconcilable differences?

This is book six of the series, but it is written as a standalone. No prior reading required.

This is a high-tech mystery story with plenty of intrigue and action. The story is well written, easy to read and sets a solid pace that keeps you turning pages. The characters are well developed and provide a solid sense of being, drawing the reader into the story and making you care about the characters, for good and bad. The plot includes plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing while trying to stop the bad guy. All of this results in a highly enjoyable story and makes me want to explore more in this series.

Highly recommended.

I receive an ARC from Hidden Gems for review purposes.

I have read a couple of books from this author and I always get my mind blown when I read her work. I absolutely love a good mystery but this author always exceeds my expectations. This is the sixth book of the High- tech crime solvers series. You can read it as a stand alone but you might get a little confused by the back story. I was hooked on the characters right from the beginning. These characters drew me into their story and I could not stop until the end. It only took me a few hours to devour this chilling mystery.

Julie Crenshaw is an investigative reporter and she loves what she does. She is just starting to get back on her feet from her past. Julie stumbles on a new case that she takes very personally. She is brought into a sexual assault case that she needs to she needs to solve before she becomes the next victim. Julie is starting to figure things out with the detective but will they be able to keep it strictly business? Will Julie figure out who the criminal is or will they find her first?

A young girl is murdered and Matt, a detective in a small Canadian town, is determined to find her killer. Julie is the local news reporter, his partner's girl and a pain in his side. Julie is a widow who moved to Canada after her husband past away. Finally feeling alive again, she won't let what could be a serial rapist ruin her newfound happiness.

This book gripped me from the beginning. I enjoyed the witty banter, action, and plot twists.

Many of us have tragic things happen in our lives. Things that are never far from our hearts and minds. In Virtually Gone (High-Tech Crime Solvers Book 6) by Jacquie Biggar , detective Matthew Roy…has just that situation. Pulled into a serial killer’s path of destruction Matt will have to deal with the pain from a past tragedy. Will he be able to set that aside to catch this killer? It’s an enlightening journey to get into his head. This story comes with a promise of a future romance. I really like those slow starters.

This is a great crime mystery. There was plenty of suspense and drama, and the plot moves quickly. However, in some places, it seemed a little uneven and rushed. The characters were interesting though, with several storylines being woven together. It was a bit of a shorter read so I think more detail could have been added sometimes.

If you don’t know about any of my past reviews, I love Jacquie Biggar’s work. This one is some of her best as we travel into the virtual realms of mysteries with great characters. You’ll love the chase that this book takes you on down in the crooks of this community and I thoroughly enjoy how she meshes things well with her books in ways that put it all in perspective for the reader. These are the types of stories I enjoy reading about and staying with a series like this!

Quick to read, long on my mind

Jacquie Biggar has done it again. Not that I’m surprised. This author not only never fails to entertain me, she does it with characters that burrow their way into my heart and take up permanent residence.

This is book six of the series, but I didn’t read all of the prior works and was able to follow the threads with no trouble, which is a testament to the author’s writing chops. She gave us just enough backstory to make sense of everyone’s history without weighing down the pacing.

The characters are compelling people. Flawed, but not too damaged. Certainly not trite or stereotypical. I felt she did an exceptionally good job making me feel for Julie, who is a widow learning to move on, and for Matthew, who never found justice for his sister and is working a case that hits painfully close to home. Juxtaposing these two with the arrogant villain was masterfully executed.

The dialogue was snappy, the plot was well-crafted, the pacing was tight. This story was a thrill ride from the first word to the last. If I had any complaint, it’s that it was over too fast. I could have spent a lot more time with these characters. I guess it’s lucky for me that this is a series!

Virtually Gone is a fast read that’s going to stay with me for quite a while. Five easy, well-deserved stars.

Virtually Gone is a good, tight mystery that is well-paced. It kept me involved from the first page to the last. I especially loved the use of high-tech police procedure like DNA profiling and tracking cell phone information. The bad guy was bad and I did not figure out the plot until the end. The good guys were very interesting and there were back stories of a romance between a detective (Connor) and a reporter - which is always dicey. Julie, the reporter, had a lot of past issues to work through so it gave the story a nice depth. Matt, Connor's partner also had issues with anger and unresolved problems with the unsolved murder of his half-sister years before. That made the characters seem real. The story was based in Victoria, British Columbia, which I truly love. But even the best cities can have evil people lurking in the shadows. I was a little confused in the beginning with all the characters and back-stories but they soon sorted themselves out. All in all this is a taut, suspenseful and believable murder/rape mystery that you will love.

A serial rapist and killer is on the loose, and a DNA match links the killer to the murder of Detective Matthew Roy’s sister a decade ago. The story tracks the police investigation, led by Matt and his partner Connor. Conner’s girlfriend, Julia, a head-strong journalist, is also on the killer’s trail.

This book is part of a multi-author series that focuses on the same group of characters and features a different character per book. I read this story out of order, and once I got to know the characters, it worked fine as a stand-alone, tying up with a satisfying conclusion.

As main characters, I found Matt and Julia believable. The secondary characters were equally three dimensional with rich backstories. The reality and details of the investigation seemed plausible including the high-tech aspects that serve as a connecting theme of the series. There are red herrings aplenty, and the clues add up logically. Not a long read, I read this book in a day. Recommended to readers who enjoy police investigations and suspenseful murder mysteries.

Virtually Gone: A Mended Souls Novel (High Tech Crime Solvers #6) by Jacquie Biggar

This is part of The High Tech Crime Solvers Series, but can be read as a stand alone book. This is my first read by Jacquie and I'm in complete awe. The moment I started reading I couldn't put it down. Jacquie has a way with wording and her characters.

Julie Crenshaw, a reporter, gets wind that there are rapes happening in her hometown. After being in danger once already her boss and boyfriend want what's best for her. Her safety. The quote I choose for Julie is: “Well, I’ll be better when I can breathe.”

Matt Roy, a cop, has been working his butt off. First, he has to hunt down a killer who was out to hurt others and now he has to find the perp raping women. He is easily frustrated with reporters trying to get one up on him. He has a need to solve this case as it hits a little close to home. The quote I choose for Matt is: “Oh, no you don’t. Go home and wait. Connor will call as soon as we have any information. I mean it, Jules. Go home.”

I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good crime. This has the best of both worlds, romance and suspense. Mrs. Biggar has done an outstanding job bringing these characters to life.

This novel is part of a multi-author series about ‘high technology and technological crimes’, some of the characters cross over from previous books but, like myself you can read this book as a standalone story. This is a techno thriller which although not my usual choice of genre had me hooked from the start. Julie Crenshaw is an investigative reporter who happens upon a story that could both be the story of a lifetime and put her life at risk. Having investigated a number of sexual abuse cases, Julie ends up on the serial rapists radar herself and has to discover his identity before he strikes again and prevent herself from becoming his next target. Meanwhile, Detective Matthew Roy is in charge of the investigation to find the serial rapist and is getting no where. His investigation in not helped by the fact that his partner's girlfriend Julie seems to be conducting her own enquiries. When the rapist also becomes a killer both Matt and Julie need to find him and fast but how. This is a fast paced book with a fascinating and thought provoking storyline and interesting characters which kept me gripped from page one. I was fully immersed in the technological crime world created by Biggar thanks to her wonderful narrative and detailed descriptions. I am keen to read the previous books in this series now and other books by Jacquie Biggar.

This was one I was super excited to get my hands on and read. I love crime and thriller novels and I also really have loved Jacquie Biggar’s books that I have read in the past. I have not read all of the previous books in the High-Tech Crime Solvers series before this one and it may be a bit why I felt like this one, Virtually Gone, took awhile to get off the ground and get gripping for me. I am hoping to go back soon and read them and hope that will give me a bit more story to jumpstart this when I reread it.

This book does keep one enthralled once it takes off. I loved Julie and her tenacity to find the answers to the hard questions and is not afraid to put herself into the line of fire if it means saving lives. She is one spunky and determined reporter. I also enjoyed Detective Matthew Roy. He is determined to find the latest serial rapist in his city and will have to face a dark and dangerous past to get close to catching the criminal. I do look forward to seeing what the other books in the series brings and if there will be more in the future as well.

Detective Matthew Roy and his partner Connor have been hunting a serial rapist and murderer. Matt’s partner’s girlfriend, Julie Crenshaw is an investigative reporter who is determined to help them solve the case. This is personal for her after surviving her abduction by the ABC killer. When they use Forensic DNA Phenotyping, they are given information that may help them identify a suspect, now all they need to do is find him. When further DNA testing ties their killer to a past case, finding the killer becomes very personal for Matt. Meanwhile, Matt has met Taylor Monroe, Julie’s boss, and finds himself attracted to her. When there is a break in the case, will Matt be able to finally bring down the killer, bring closure to his past and look forward to a future…maybe with Taylor? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)

Virtually Gone is the sixth book in High-Tech Crime Solvers series where a group of authors have gotten together to write series of techno-thrillers, stories that have a promise of high technology and interlocking cast of characters and where one might just get away with a murder! I had read Jacquie Biggar’s Men of WarHawks series so I expected something spectacular and I was slightly disappointed! I felt that this story was not of the same calibre as the WarHawks series though overall I do not regret that I picked up a copy.
Virtually Gone takes place in Victoria in British Columbia and we meet Julie who is an investigative reporter and Matt’s partner’s Connor’s girlfriend so it makes Matt’s life, who is the lead Detective in this story, a bit dicey! Throw into the mix a serial killer, Matt’s past tragedy and you have a good formula for a great story! It took a bit for the story to really get off the ground but once it did and once I had sorted out the back stories in my head, I could not wait to turn pages and to find out who where and how and I tell you, the technology that they used for the investigations? Mind-blowing!

Virtually Gone : A Mended Souls Novel (High-Tech Crime Solvers Book 6)
Jacquie Biggar
3.5 out of 5 stars

When I stumbled across Virtually Gone, I was really intrigued. Not only did the synopsis set the premise of a good story, I was drawn by the fact that this series is comprised of various authors and their contributions. This review is difficult for me as I feel my opinions are contradictory. I will start by saying I really liked the book overall. It was about 150 pages so it proved to be a really fast read. While it had my attention from the beginning, it was simultaneously hard for me to get into the storyline because for whatever reason, I had a hard time initially keeping the main characters straight. I did like the chemistry between characters, however.
I thought the story flowed well and it was different subject matter than I find myself gravitating toward regularly. I am interested in exploring Jacquie Biggar's writing more in the future as this was my first experience with this author.

Virtually Gone: A Mended Souls Novel (High-Tech Crime Solvers Book 6) by Jacquie Biggar is a mystery suspense story. It is a fast paced tale with danger and drama and whilst I enjoyed the story it felt a little lacking in some places. I was a little confused to start with but I was able to settle into the characters better once learning their back stories. This is an interesting story and Jacquie threw a few spanners into the works to keep us guessing.

Julie, a reporter, is like a dog with a bone when she gets going on a story and will not walk away even if it means putting herself in a killer's line of sight. At times it becomes all too personal.

Detective Matthew Roy and his partner are on the chase to catch a serial rapist and unfortunately the horrific past has risen again to torment him.

Virtually gone, by Jacquie Biggar, is part six of a multi author series. I jumped straight in at book six and don’t feel like you need to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this story.

The story begins with the brutal murder of a 16 year old girl, and from this a whole series of event come in to play. The past intermingles with the present, and the race is on to stop others getting hurt.
The characters in this story all have an important part to play, and they all have different issues that make this case more personal to them than others. You can feel the passion and desperation come through, and I think that knowing what drives people, and where their reasoning comes from really helps you to engage with the characters and enjoy the story even more.
The characters and the plot moves very quickly, and there are a few surprises thrown in, which keeps the story exciting and makes you keep turning the pages.
I would recommend this if you enjoy a thriller with a twist.

Virtually Gone (High-Tech Crime Solvers Book 6) by Jacquie Biggar. I loved the previous books in the series so I had high hopes for this one and I was not disappointed. It can be read as a standalone but I've enjoyed reading them all. Its the story of Julie Crenshaw who is an investigative reporter and Matthew Roy who is a detective. Julie has come upon a case that may make or break her career. There is a string of Sexual abuse cases but what Julie doesn't know its going to throw her right in the rapists path. Matt is ticked off because he can't solve this case. He is ticked at Connor his partner whose reporter girlfriend seems to always be one step ahead of him. If it weren't for Connor, Matt would have probably killed or at least locked up Julie. When the rapist resorts to murder the stakes are even higher. Will Matt, Connor and Julie use technology to solve this crime before some else gets hurt or worse murdered. Will Matt and Connor still be partners/friends at the end of this investigation? Read Virtually Gone to find out!

Virtually Gone (High-Tech Crime Solvers Book 6) by Jacquie Biggar is a mystery thriller book. I did not read the other books in this series but wish I would have. But it was an easy book to get into after starting to read it. I could not put this book down; I love the way Jacquie wrote this story so I will be going back to read the rest of her books. Julie Crenshaw is the main female character; she is an investigative reporter. Matthew Roy is the main male character; he is a detective and frustrated with his inability to track a rapist terrorizing his city. When Julie does not listen to the Detective will he be able to save her when she becomes the target? This was a great book to read, highly recommend

I received an ARC from the author, Jacquie Biggar, via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary and honest review. I highly recommend this book if you like a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat and hard to put down. A reporter, Julie, her boyfriend, Connor, and his police detective partner, Matt, are trying to solve serial rapist and murder cases that date back a decade to when Matt's sister, Katrina, was murdered by the same killer. I liked this book because the action started immediately and the case wasn't solved until the end and then it wasn't who I thought it was. Excellent writing by this author.

I enjoyed this suspenseful, mystery story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites for sure. It is a well written story that made me feel as if I was part of the story. I had no problem connecting with the characters and they pulled me into the story right from the beginning. The twists and turns left me turning pages fast. It is a shorter story that is creative and fast paced. Julie gets a case of her life but will mean losing her life to get the headline? Detective Matthew is frustrated that Julie won’t listen to him but will he be able to protect her before she becomes the next rapist’s victim? I highly recommend this book and this author.

Virtually Gone by Jacquie Biggar is the sixth book in the High-Tech Crime Solvers series. This is a story full of suspense and intrigue that certainly keeps the pages turning.
The characters in this book have been well crafted. I liked the relationship between the two partners, I felt like they complimented each other well. Each seemed to the make up for the others flaws. They were determined to solve this case and find the person responsible and it was easy to feel their urgency behind it.
The story was also really well developed. I wanted to find out what was going on and to see how the book would turn out. I thought the author did a great job of keeping you guessing with some well timed twists and turns. It was a suspenseful story that definitely kept me interested. I enjoyed reading this book and will look forward to more in the future.

Virtually Gone by Jacquie Biggar a fantastic four-star read. This is number six in the High Tech Crime Solvers series and each part of the story is written by a different author, each bringing their own spin, and Jacquie Biggar always brings a spin that will keep you turning like a spinning top, as they have this way of never letting you stop to breath as you read, the action and suspense just keeps your breath just a hairsbreadth from being able to being released fully, you are always on the edge of your seat. Julie is someone you can get behind; you know why she has the passion and drive to get to the story. Its short and I was surprised that so much was able to be pushed into such short number of pages.

Great crime story.

Julie Crenshaw is the Investigation Reporter. Matthew Roy is the Detective tracking the raped and sexually abused. Their goal is to find who is terrorizing the city, and stop them. The two strong willed people are on a blazing trail. As for you, the reader, load up on the ride you're about to read.

Jacquie Biggar is a new author for me. I was not disappointed. I love the story line as well as the characters in this book. The women are strong and determined to get answers. This was one rollercoaster I truly enjoyed. I will be looking for more from this writer. Job well done Jacquie Biggar!

What a thriller!!! This is one of my favorite authors and this story proves why.

All I can say is WOW. This story kept me at the edge of my seat. Jacquie Biggar is one author that I follow on all platforms. Her writing style engages me from the first page until the last. She spins a story that will take you on twists and turns, ups, and downs. I have to reread some parts because there was a curveball that came out of nowhere. Her characters are easy to understand. They have defined characteristics that make you “like them” or “hate them”. In this story, I felt a connection Julie Crenshaw. She was handed a case about women who have been raped by a serial rapist. She may get herself in trouble. Detective Matthew Roy is the detective on the serial rapist. Can Detective Roy catch this rapist before there is another victim? Will Julie be careful so she does not become the next victim. I highly recommend this story to see what happens next.

Oh goodness, I don’t usually read crime novels, however I really enjoyed this one.

The character development was done really well. The plot was done fantastically, as such I would assume it would be in real life of investigators and journalists, hurry up and wait type situations. Matt was by far my favorite character in this book and Julie, I would like to know more about her backstory and the leading up to this book so I may have to see if she is written in a different book. Also, I am interested in the budding romances that are forming between a few more characters, something to keep my eyes open for with this author.

I didn’t have any trouble reading this book as it is book 6 in this series, it was very well done as a standalone and I would recommend it if you are into crime investigating stories, this one's for you.
