“Your time will arrive. And when it does, nature will make up for everything it has kept you away from.”

Roshan is a songwriter by day and a fashion store assistant by night who offsets his average vocals with good lyrics often drawing inspiration from the worst heartbreaks of his life. Jilted by the love of his life and still reeling from past failures, he struggles to tap into his full potential. His story is rewritten when he meets Shanaya, a feisty girl, whose love and acceptance bolster his confidence. Roshan and Shanaya are drawn together by their shared flair for creativity. But as Roshan makes progress, he discovers a harrowing truth about his past. Will he burst out of his bubble and step into the spotlight? Will he trade authenticity for righteousness? Should he follow his heart or succumb to exploitation? Equally romantic and inspiring, ‘Bittersweet’ is an emotionally-charged novel about a young man who finds his true calling in a world that otherwise seeks a compromise.

I know Rajesh since he reviewed my book 'The Fragile Thread of Hope' long ago. I have been following his reviews, and I must say that he is a good, honest reviewer. I was pleasantly surprised when I came to know recently that he had written a book as well. I knew I had to read this one.

From the beginning few pages itself, I was hooked. The story is about a young man who works in a fashion store but is a talented songwriter and secretly desires to make it big in the music industry, his love life, the opportunities that come his way, and the obstacles he faces after a secret from his past suddenly rears its head. The plot is constructed with such expertise that it is difficult to believe that this is a debut writer's work. Perhaps he drew inspiration from the books he reviewed and learned from it, but regardless, Rajesh must be lauded for his exceptional narrative skills.

He knows how and when to begin and end scenes, how to smoothly navigate between the past and present without the reader ever getting confused about dates. The love story did start too quickly for my liking, but after that, I loved how he developed the relationship maturely without making it look cheesy as most commercial fiction writers end up doing. The relation of the protagonist with his friends is also well developed, and I could relate with all of them.

Thus, coming to the characterization, I think that Rajesh has once again done a stellar job. He has painted the character with gray shades and yet made the character likable enough to make the reader root for him and his happiness. I particularly loved the character of his girlfriend, Shanaya, who is a pillar of support to him throughout the book.

As far as the secret goes—which is revealed towards the middle of the book—I could half-predict it, but the other half was surprising enough for me (and should be for most readers). Given that Rajesh has peppered the book with lovely, well-written poems and songs throughout, I would have loved to see a few more descriptions of ambiance, which would have added to the literary feel of the novel. However, since this is a commercial fiction, such descriptions are not that necessary, so I give him the benefit of doubt.

The language is incredible, and I was amazed to see brilliantly constructed sentences throughout the book. It is admirable how Rajesh has managed to write so elegantly in his debut book, and I couldn't help but re-read and highlight several sentences. There is so much to learn there for aspiring writers as well as new writers like me. The grammar and punctuation were also flawless except for two things—one action tag punctuation issue that he got wrong throughout the book and the usage of uppercase instead of italics for emphasizing words. However, this is just his debut book, and these minor issues are forgivable.

The ending was also done well and I did feel mildly emotional, but I felt that it could have been done better—the reactions of the protagonist seemed a bit unnatural in a couple of places.

However, these small flaws are negligible considering how Rajesh has managed to do the most important things perfectly—a gripping, inspiring plot; beautifully etched characters; and remarkably good language. I was always hovering between 4 and 5 stars throughout, but I have decided to give Bittersweet 4.4 stars, just shy of 5 stars because I believe that Rajesh can still do better and produce a masterpiece next time.

I wish him all the best, and I hope that Bittersweet becomes a bestseller because it certainly deserves the tag.

Really amazing book

I chose to give it a 5 star rating, as the book gave me all I wanted, and even more.
The story is about a young artist, Roshan Rao, and his struggles with his demons.
He has two of his best friends to help him through.
This is a story of heartbreaks, love, friendship and success, not unaccompanied by struggles, of course.
Just one of the chapters didn't capture me. Rest of them had me.
The book presented a fairly happy ending, though that's just, after reading too much struggles of the protagonist.

**Recommended in a group**

Bittersweet is Rajesh's debut book. The novel's protagonist is Roshan, a songwriter and salesperson. Writing songs and poetry since he was a teenager, Roshan lives life on his terms. He loves passionately, stands by his friends and fiercely pursues his dreams. Though, he does need some goading but he picks up the guitar and stuns people with his heart wrenching songs/lyrics once he gathers enough steam. Ragini, the woman who breaks up with Roshan and nearly destroys him aims for the stars. On the other hand, when given a choice, Roshan chooses his friends and love over money and fame. His preparedness for the several curveballs that are thrown at him would surprise you if you were not prepared for it. Roshan is a lovable and believable character. You will root for him, cry with him and feel his pain. Ragini and Shanaya invoke similarly intense emotions in oneself. So does Roshan's betsie, Sunny. Characters come alive in your mind when you turn the pages of Rajesh's Bittersweet. The beautifully written lyrics, neatly interspersed with the prose gives you a reason to sit back and enjoy the journey that the young author has designed for you. Each poem/song has so much pain and depth, one would find it tough not to be moved by it.

The sincerity with which Rajesh has worked on his debut book, each and every chapter shines, like polished diamonds. His hard work at writing fantastic prose is evident. I always believe that a writer can be upended by a lazy editor/proofreader. The author has left no stones unturned to ensure the copy is error free. A book written with love, about love, about aspirations and friendships, about second chances, about the belief in life's motives to bring us to the light after we have crossed the storms.

I highly recommend this book, it is sure to warm your heart and make you reach out to your loved one or that long lost friend you never bothered to call. Go ahead, pick this one up. :)

"My time will come. My time will come. And when it happens, I will finally get everything I have been deprived of. A career that I can proud of. A lover who sees the best in me."

"The point in my life -- meeting you and all when I needed someone -- it's bittersweet. I needed this."

"Life's beauty is in its uncertainty. There must be things about you that you've failed to see in yourself. Life will surprise you in ways you can't imagine."

Roshan Rao, a fashion store assistant is a struggling musician. With average vocals but an inherent talent of writing beautiful lyrics, he writes songs and poems drawing inspiration from the worst heartbreaks of his life. Jilted by Ragini, the love of his life and still reeling from past failures, when he struggles to tap into his full potential, Shanaya, a beautiful artiste girl, comes into his life like a true inspiration. Soon they both fall for each other. Her love and acceptance bolster his confidence and help him to rediscover his potential and motivates him to move on in his life and career fronts. But when everything has started to fall into the right places in his life, Roshan discovers a harrowing truth about his past. Will, he burst out of his bubble and step into the spotlight? Will he trade authenticity for righteousness? Should he follow his heart or succumb to exploitation?

"If loving you comes with a big price
Let me shed all my inhibitions.
If there's nothing I can do to change you
Let me give in to the temptation.
You're a personification of my worst nightmare
But that trauma to me is Bittersweet."

Review:

🎸Love the glossy cover, it perfectly depicts the Roshan’s story and its title defines the conclusion of life which is also bittersweet.

🎸The book, narrated in first-person POV of Roshan, is divided into two parts preceded by epigraphs. Although the first part felt plodding, the 2dn part compensated it very well.

🎸The story of Roshan resonates perfectly with today's youngsters, who are working hard to make a name for themselves amidst all the struggles, heartbreaks and challenges they are facing.

🎸All the characters are strong, complex and well written. Loved the character's arc of Roshan, how he developed in the book is heartwarming and inspirational.

🎸The crisp and eloquent writing style, realistic dialogues, beautiful songs and poems, and comprehensive narration, doesn’t let you feel it’s the debut novel of the author.

🎸The ending of the book, similar to the title is bittersweet -- sad but at the same time happy - a perfect conclusion to the emotional journey.

🎸Lastly, the heart of the book is its beautiful songs and poem, which articulately portrayed human emotions and shows the author's poetry skills and musical knowledge.

🎸The only thing I didn't like in the book is Ragini-Roshan's story is described in detail in the first half. It would have been better if he had shown Shanaya's back story and a gradual build-up of her and Roshan chemistry there.

I completed the book in one sitting and highly recommend it to everyone to read it, not because it was sent to me in exchange for an honest review, but because I truly enjoyed reading it. Pick up this book, if you like music, if you are an artist or if you believe in true love, friendship, and destiny.

Bittersweet is a piece of art, an art of storytelling through stirring thoughts, authentic dialogues, songs and a creative plot. Apart from that, Bittersweet is a work of contemporary fiction following the protagonist Roshan, who is an artiste with excellent songwriting skills and limited vocal talent. Bittersweet is narrated in first-person point of view and is narrated by Roshan only. The book is divided into two parts preceded by epigraphs. The writing style is really dope and complements the genre and overall theme. The opening passage is awe-inspiring which makes you dive right into an artiste’s bittersweet life.

Let’s start from the beginning, as I mentioned above, an impressive opening is all you need to dive right into a book. It didn’t consume any time to get along with the narrative, also it is straight forward. Author Rajesh Konsam has made Bittersweet very relatable. Characters are really strong and dialogues on top of that help connecting us to them at such level that it brings you the same pain as them. I felt every bit of it. At first, I thought of it as an average read but the second part gave characters and the book itself a new life. There is not just the struggle one make as an artiste, they take almost life-changing decisions. And that’s what you learn from this book and for me, there is nothing of more value than these lessons. Roshan didn’t give up and Shanaya proved to be the best thing happened to his life. Not to forget, the music aspect of the book, it is the heart of Bittersweet. There are musical references from across the globe. There are experiences all related to music, there are failures, and there is romance! Character arcs of Roshan and Shanaya are way transformative, they grow together throughout the novel.

Closure! I loved how the book is filled with life and reality, especially the second part. Shanaya and Sheryl are my favorites from Bittersweet. The way they turn darkness into light every time they appear! The novel is a mixture of bitterness and sweetness of the same amount, no more no less!

Rajesh Konsam’s debut novel Bittersweet is about Roshan, a young man, in his mid 20’s. He is a struggling artist, a songwriter, who works as a fashion store assistant when he’s not writing a song!
I loved the book a lot, finished it in 2 sittings. (Which has become rare nowadays.)

The story starts as an average romance. He meets the girl, Shanaya. They take it slow, form the bonds, deepen the relationship, and all. As it progresses, he discovers things, that demand his decisions. Whether he should take the easy way out or should he continue working his an** off like everyone else.

Only, the starting of the story is average!

The story of Roshan and Shanaya resonate so well with our generation of young men and women, who are working hard to make a name for themselves amidst all the struggles and the challenges they are facing. All the characters in the story are really strong. The anti-hero of the story (the author’s words!) Ragini, the store owner, and the main protagonist’s friend buddies, everyone’s story arc is well developed.
The story has components of love & romance, friendship, family, career and passion. But, none of them feels like being forced down in the story. They are presented in such a way that the reader lives them along with the characters. The dialogue and emotions are so real that, at times it seemed to be a real-life account.

Bittersweet also showcases the author’s poetry skills with a bunch of good songs and poems in it.

Bittersweet is amazing and doesn’t let you feel it’s the debut novel of the author. Rajesh has made it clear that he is not going anywhere!

Let me begin by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review.
The thing that surprised me the most about this book is how the author is so fluent with words. The reason I’m saying this is because this book is not just a love story but also has an amazing collection of poems. Each and every word in this book is so well sewn together.
The good things about this book were so many! First of all I like how the author managed to fit in all the poems in such right places. The second good thing about this was how the author kept things simple making it easier for everyone to relate to it. The third most amazing thing about this is how it contained a very minimal number of characters and still managed to take the book in the right direction without losing the flow.
The one thing I would say is that if you are a Bollywood bluff like me, then this book would be predictable at certain points , but that can be easily looked past as the story-line was well written.
There were so many favorite lines in this book that choosing one is difficult. But there is one line that stayed with me for a long time:
“The Greater the difficulty, the more the glory in surmounting it”
My favorite poetry from this is “Bed of Thorns”
At the end I would recommend this to anyone looking for a book with love, heartbreak, selflessness, glory, hatred and so many more mixed emotions!
I give this book a 4 on 5 stars!

Roshan Rao, a struggling musician, lives in city of dreams, Mumbai with his very supportive and understanding parents. He works as an salesman in a clothing's shop for pocket money. He writes really good songs and after his worst heartbreak, he keeps jotting down songs by drawing inspiration from his current situation. When everything is not happening good in his life, Shanaya, a beautiful artiste girl, comes into his life like a true inspiration. Soon they both fall for each others. She begins to help him discover and improve more and more. And When Roshan thoughts that everything has started to fall into the right places, there is a secret from his past waiting for him to disturb his life. .
.
It's a nice story about keep on the hard work and never loose hope because you will never know how life is gonna surprise you. Sometimes it will be bitter and sometimes it can be sweet too. Story is quite decent. Language is also fine that everyone can read it.

Bittersweet by Rajesh Konsam is a lovely, relaxing book. It follows the day-to-day life of musician Roshan, who struggles a lot with his identity as an artist and with his past love. One day someone comes into his life, and his world view changes.

The book has romance, music and inspirational elements. I liked the first-person narrative and the words used were brilliant. The songs written by the protagonist, Roshan, were very relatable. Characters were well-etched, especially Roshan, and the supporting characters were all distinct.

It's not your typical book by any means! Highly recommend.

Bittersweet- A mellifluous tale of life!

The title of this book is an emotion that anyone who has known love and heartbreak would be familiar with. Bittersweet lives up to its name and is a tale of life’s highs and lows from a very realistic perspective. There aren’t crazy meltdowns or major melodramatic scenes between Roshan and Shanaya! The story flows with ease and the plot twists are interesting. The first person narrative is refreshing. One easily identifies with Roshan’s turmoil, dilemmas, and struggles as a young man. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and finished in under 5 hours.

A story of two different people with different paths but same destiny. In chaotic world of hard work, less opportunities, heartbreaks and loss of friends, will these two souls perish and win their life?
It's the story about Roshan and Shanaya. Roshan is an aspiring music artist whereas Shanaya is looking forward to her dream. Both of them have never imagined that life will gift each of them with the best person for whom they will keep their life for sake. With unknown turn of events, they find a lot of obstacles but never give up on each other and also their dreams. One becomes the support for the other always at the time of need. Their love story is the one that is relatable to all who are with their true love and for those who are not in a relationship, they need to read this work of art to know how beautiful true love is.
The author has done a marvellous job in this novel. His writing skills, suspenses and feelings are up to mark. Its not only the story but the beautiful songs with heartthrobing lines which will make the reading experience beautiful. While reading this I have been really surprised that this is his debut novel because when I completed this the last night, I closed the book and said to myself "Wow, this guy is surely going to hit it up."
So guys go on and include this one to your cart and give it a read.

This book is a genuine mixture of well written story and beautiful poetry in the form of lyrics. One thing I would like to add and this is what it makes this book unique for me. I read many stories written by Indian authors but here some words used in this story were really unknown to me. The words carry its own beauty and I had to Google it😅....
The first part is little bit monotonous but it takes a whole new path in the second part.
Other than that you will feel mixed emotions through the lead character Roshan.... Such a nice story covering love life, personal life and professional life together in one string...
Reader who loves poetry will enjoy reading this story♥️

Last but not the least such a nice work from the author....

Bittersweet is a one- sitting read by Rajesh Konsam. Romantic and inspiring, it is the story of the guy-next-door, Roshan Rao.

Roshan, a fashion store assistant during the day, turns into a lyricist and inspiring musician by night. He has been looking for a break through the talent shows but much to his dismay, he is never able to makes it to the shortlists. To add to his problems, his now famous ex-girlfriend, Ragini, has returned trying to get Roshan back. Shanaya is the new girl in his life who is helping him get over the past. The Mondkar mother- daughter duo, from the music industry, fascinate Roshan a lot. The book is about the struggle of this ordinary yet selfless young man and his fight to gain the limelight.

Bittersweet is a perfect title for the book which showcases so many different emotions. A simple yet attractive cover is sure to attract eyes of the readers. Konsam has set a very consistent and smooth plot and presented it in a simple language. Roshan's character showcases the lives of youngsters who dare to dream big and different. Although the characters are relatable, I feel they could have been better written had there been some background given to them. Also, I was expecting more focus on Roshan's adoptive parents but they were just in the side throughout the book. The climax is a strong point but I am not exactly able to decide if what happened was right or not. The book is a light yet inspirational read, especially perfect for beginners.

Title:- Bittersweet

Genre:- Romance

Rating:- 4.5/5
——————————————————————
This is the debut novel of the author, and he seems to have quite a lot of knowledge of music and art, which was appealing to me as a reader. One of the best things was that, I was able to culturally relate to the book.
The book narrates the story of Roshan, who is a struggling artiste who could have chosen the easy way out, but he rather preferred to work hard, in order to achieve his goals. The character of Roshan has a lot suppressed feelings and anger within him, and the way his anger is channelised seems to be very real to me.
In the process of following his dreams he meets the love of his life, namely Shanaya who supports him at every stage of his complicated life, she seems to be the perfect partner. Shanaya's character adds a lot of light to this story as she’s clearly radiating inside and out.
The language of the book was up to the mark, and the narration was beautiful, the book will be adored by people who like poetry. It has got a lot to give out to the readers, so honestly it’s a must read and I will suggest it to people who like contemporary fiction, romance, poetry and realism in books.

This book is a treat for those who love romance genre.I'm a person who stays away from this genre but I was awestruck.

Starting from the first chapter itself I knew I'm gonna cherish this book for a lifetime (not bcoz I love poetry) but finally theirs a contemporary Indian author whose written such a delightful book about love, romance, heartbreak and youth dreams in profound English language.

A story about a young boy caught up in the harsh memories of his past heartbreak. Over the years the betrayal has taken a toll over his life, carreer and friendship. But eventually he meets a girl who respects and understands his art, his work and lifestyle. The experiences of the protagonists are so relatable to anyone and everyone in their 20s. The journey of self discovery and coming out confident with your potential and camouflaging your flaws is what you learn.

The short wisdom italicised by the author Rajesh Konsam throughout the book can be cherushed by every young soul. The author has done a splendid work despite being a debut novel....a light-hearted read which will leave you with bittersweet thoughts....for me it was like milk chocolate.

BITTERSWEET
Author : Rajesh Konsam
Publisher : Viswakarma publications
Genre : Fiction

'Bittersweet' is the debut novel of Rajesh Konsam. The protagonist of the story is Roshan , a songwriter and a part time sales person.
Roshan is a young millennial who is struggling to explore his talent . He lives life in his own terms and support his friends to flourish in their career . In first part of the story, Roshan is a lovelorn , nearly destroyed by his ex- girlfriend Ragini Sengupta who preferred her career over Roshan.
After five years He meets Shanaya and after a long time he seems to be interested in a girl. Slowly Shanaya becomes his life line. When everything is going well, he comes to know a secret from his past.
What is that secret ?
What changes will come to Roshan's life after that?
Can Roshan taste success in life?

The author made the book relatable From its title itself. The novel introduces us to many characters who consider relationships along with their success. The music factor is the heart of Bittersweet. Bittersweet is a mixture of pleasure and pain.

This is by sure, one of the best debut novel of the year, with no experience in this field (as the author says), the author surprisingly surpassed the requirements with flying stars, I guess everyone should applaud him for that.

Now coming to the review, here's what I think (no blurb cause hello! It's given up there buddy, check it).

Plot: Talking about the plot, the book has too many elements and twists and characters to get inspired from, Sunny, Priyanka, Priya, Sheryl, Alston and so many more.

If you ask me what I liked about this book then there's too many to count, there's authentic lyrics with hints of poetry mixed in them, the characters are well written and justified, the story is paced perfectly, THE WRITING STYLE IS REALLY GOOD AND GRAMMAR TOO!
Sometimes that matters to me the most, not to forget even after being a debut novel, this book has kept me on my toes (I BINGED!!!)

My favorite scenes would be when Roshan and Shanaya met or the moment when they stopped to stare at the sandcastle.

All in all, THIS BOOK IS A MUST!! (DIDN'T YOU READ MY REVIEW?!?!)

Yes! I love it.
Considering that this is the author's debut book. The words are carefully and beautifully articulated, lots of inspirational quotes, beautiful lyrics, etc... The book also covers a great deal of music industry in India especially in the context of a young artiste, his struggles, hardships, who is in the verse of giving up his dream and passion, keeps pushing!
It also talks about the choice between "Career" and "Relationships", can it be balanced? Which is more important? Can you be perfectly happy when you achieved your dream but lose the one you love? Keeping reading to find out.

(Spoiler) Talking about relationships, I think the relationship between Roshan and Shanaya is too perfect, i mean I love how perfect they both are to each other but it will be more interesting, thrilling, will keep us guessing.... if there is a little bit of dramas, more complicated decisions or situations....

At the end of the day, its a unique book with unique stories and twists. All the very best to the young Brilliant Author!

If you have read Durjoy Dutta and you love reading his books, You are definitely going to love this one by Rajesh Konsam too.
(It reminds me of Durjoy’s initial books)
There is a genuineness in the style of writing and the characters and its portrayed so clearly. I can imagine how each and every character looks like in my head. And thats great, isn’t it? When you connect with what the author is trying to make you feel connected with. I loved reading this book. And I usually finish my books (If I like one) in 2-3 sittings and thats what I did.
Storyline:
It wasnt over the top, but It wasn’t the usual love story either! I love how friendship is defined in this book and how everyone is constantly helping to push each other up! The book has such positive vibes and also some interesting turn of events. Its filled with creative writings and poetry and its really fun to reach such stuff.
Waiting for the author to come up with his next book. 😁

"Bittersweet" by Rajesh Konsam is book of fully charged emotions and love. Based on the protagonist Roshan who is a songwriter by day and a fashion store assistant by night.

Then Roshan means a beautiful and courageous girl named Shanaya, whose love and acceptance makes Roshan gain confidence and pursue his dreams.

Both of them are equally attached to eachother and share their flair of creativity together. But as the story progresses Roshan discovers a painful truth about himself and his past.

Will this painful past break Roshan? Or will this past let him grow more and come out of his bubble of low self confidence?

✨✨✨

The book has been a great read, I loved each and every title of every single chapter in this book. The elaborate narration and use of words is very great. The author has done very impressive job on his imagination. I loved how the book has various beautiful lyrical songs and paragraphs in between the chapters.

True love may not be just for a person- it can be for so many things... A very well written and articulated story by Rajesh who excels in his storytelling. The book has so many great things that it is difficult to name just a few!
The flow of the story is just right- not too slow, not too fast as it keeps you engaged and waiting for what happens next. The poems are the real treat in this book and the main protagonists are showcased so vividly that you feel as if you are sitting right next to them.
It is a journey that is enjoyable, painful, filled with love and moves you. A must read for everyone- Rajesh, extremely well done!

This book is really bittersweet
The ending is happy but yeah I wish I could change some elements, but not everything can get perfect, right?
Loved how detailed the book is. It's not only some clingy romance, unlike books of almost every author, but it teaches how friendship can change you for better. No matter how far you are from each other, still friendship never breaks.
And also love is not the one that pushes you back but forces you towards your goals.
Rajesh's writing style is simple and touching.
You won't regret reading it at all, go for it. It's a great book for your collection.
Inspiring, touching, heartbreaking, and a perfection.
