What do you think?

Hammer
When a man like Hammer nails you, he nails you hard.
Hammer.
That's what his old military buddies call him, and after a night with him I can see how he earned the nickname. He's a trained killer turned MMA fighter, and everything he does in life, he does hard. In the ring, he hits hard. In bed, well... what he does there is hard too. Long and hard.
I thought he'd lose interest in me once we hooked up, but when my corrupt cop ex-boyfriend and his thugs try to kill us both, Hammer decides I need his protection... whether I like it or not. It turns out his idea of keeping me safe is dragging me out to some cabin in the middle-of-nowhere mountains and spanking me until I'm sore and sorry and soaked whenever I dare to disobey him.
I just hope he's ready to give it to the bad guys half as rough and hard as he gives it to me.
Publisher's Note: Hammer includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.
A Dark Romance.

4 stars not as "dark" but nevertheless it was rather intense in a few scenes. Hammer is a definite dirty talker and Jazz is one strong lady! plot was okay and not as long, 4 stars!

Ya'll will not believe this sh^t show of a story!!
Walk with me a moment..
Now, I read this book until the 83% mark and DNF'd it once I finished chapter 12..(This book has about 14 chapters)
Let me tell you why..
Channeling my inner Michael Corleone:

Only don't tell me that you can write. Don't put this mess in front of me and expect me to believe it. It insults my intelligence and that makes me very angry..
This book has dread saturated all over it with the three P's.. Promise, Premise, and Potential. I say dread because NONE of these things were actually realized within this book.. And I didn't need to read the last 2 chapters to know that for sure. Thanks to a fellow reviewer who actually did finish this mess, I was told exactly what occurs in the last 2 chapters.. So that made me VERY thankful that I had decided to stop after chap 12. Honestly, I should not have hung in as long as I did.. This is most certainly part of the reasons why this DNF review is rated 1 sad, lonely star.
Now, Jake, aka Hammer, was fleshed out well. Even his ex military buddies were. Even dumb a&& Jazz (FMC) was fleshed out well. Though she was the ever common, annoying FMC, that no woman worth her salt can ever really like. So there's that.
Anyway, the things that were promising here are:
1. MMCs
2. Chaps 1-4
3. The hotness factor between Hammer and Jazz. (Which still could have been more plentiful, IMO)
BUT, these things can't carry a story for me. Never have and never will. I have to not only believe the story, but the damn thing has to make sense too! The plot continuum. The plausible happenings, the things that make a story flow in the realm of not only common sense scenarios, but in actions and the whys behind those actions. Ms. Renard does not know how to flesh a story out to save her life. NONE of what occurs here with the villains and the MCs made sense.. Case and point..
1. Like how did Rodney and his thugs even know that Jazz was next door in Hammer's apartment at the beginning? How did they know to go immediately to Hammer's apartment, when they realized she was not home? This was never explained.
2. How did Rodney and his crew even know that Jazz and Hammer and his crew were coming for them, if they didn't even know where she was for the last 6 months?! How could they possibly prepare for this or be ready for them?
3. How TF do highly trained ex military killers not know that their targets are wearing wires and body cam footage to record what is being done to them? Better yet, why didn't they just sniper rifle their a&& to avoid any complications to begin with?
4. How TF would they also mess up the clean up of hiding the bodies, so the bodies aren't found less than 6 hours after they're disposed of? (leading to the authorities knowing all of this so it makes it to the 11 o'clock news the same damn day! )
5. How TF does Jazz get a job as stripper in less than 5 hrs after the 1st two guys are killed, in order to trap Rodney at his local stripper hang out, so that they can finally get him?
6. Why does Rodney know that his crew is already dead and one of them is in a phucking wheelchair, just a hand full of hours after we are told that Rock and Tristan KILLED them?!
7. How TF did the authorities also know where they were staying at in the city, after they magically know who all are behind the killings?
8. How TF is it phucking deep Winter again, after just 2 weeks prior, when all of this happens, it was Spring time?
9. Why TF did they go and stay at their old cabin, after leaving their getaway van in the area, after that botched police chase?! Did they not think that the authorities wouldn't eventually comb that whole area to find them? Again, these are not idiotic things that ex military would do..
~And do not even get me started on that stupid a&& chap 12 that caused me to finally throw in this sh^t encrusted towel, of my effort to get through this cesspool, of undiluted funky dookie streams of a story!
So, as I said above, in my Michael Corleone voice you saying this is a story worth reading, this insults my intelligence. And that makes me very angry..
Would I recommend?= HELL NO!! As a matter of fact, I am never reading anything else from this author EVER AGAIN!
~If you're still curious enough to read this mess, then trust me, DO NOT BUY THIS SH^T, in order to do so.. This was just pure laziness.. This author has written enough books to not be doing this with her stories. So this is not a rookie Indy publishing foul up at all.. This is just Lazy & her insulting any reader that picks this book up with their time and their money.. Almost like the author thinks as long as she gives you a really hot MMC, and enough heat between the MCs, that all other aspects needed in order to make a story worthwhile and worth reading, would not be a requirement any longer for the reader.

Steamy sex, but choppy content
I don't know if this ois an earlier book or if its just an unlucky development but as good as this book's start was and the sex nice and steamy, there was promises of more back story - but this was never delivered. :(
The story often felt choppy, I felt like there were missing scenes several times, only to think there's too much filler the next. Then it sort of hot good again, peaked, only to constantly fall. There was too many peaks!
I feel like the book had so much better potential. The writing isn't bad, it's got parts where it's very good, but then it's got parts that I feel have almost been pasted in just to make it longer.
This made it a bit too choppy.
I also can't stand it when people can't make up their dam minds and keep going back and forth...
I did like the ending though, you nearly had me believe! Hahaha
So I give it 3* for steamy sex and good parts. Though I felt our hero, though def. Alpha wasn't as "Hammer" in the bedroom as the blurb suggested, which was disappointing...

I’m not even sure where to begin. This story felt like it was just thrown together because the author has a quota to meet for the year. Lots of repeats... over and over and over.
It says it’s dark, but it definitely is not. The h’s ex and two of his crooked cop friends are into human trafficking but there is no detail. None. You get nothing from the author on the guys except for their first names.
The H/h live in the same apartment complex, right next door to each other and have never met until 8 mos into the lease. They have sex that night when they’re both coming home at 4am. Then later, the author writes that it’s 2am.
Crooked cops break into H apt next morning. H knocks them out in 5 secs. The H/h go on the run into hiding at H military buddies. It’s winter, they wait until spring to kill the cops. Spring arrives, they do the killing and two weeks later, it’s winter again!
Its supposed to get suspenseful on the way back to their hideout after the killings. There’s this huge chase with 10 cop cars and a helicopter that only lasts about 1.5 pages. They get away scot free.
3 weeks later, 2 out of 3 of H’s buddies walk off and we never hear about them again.
H/h and the last remaining military guy take off and try to cross into Canada. A week later, h ends up breaking down “crashing” from the trauma. Guys drop her off at a hosp, leave note that H is the bad guy and they take off and separate. 18mos later, h recovers and job hops bartending. H was said to of died by shootout but he returns into her life after having plastic surgery and is in real estate. No word on how/what that last remaining guy was/is doing or how H could afford surgery. That’s it. Book is over. They live hea.

It's a horrible choppy storyline, with many plotholes. Took me forever to finish it, because it was frustrating to read with so many story/character flaws.

I started reading "Hammer" by Ms. Renard as part of a group book read. We were looking forward to starting it October 2nd, as the premise/plot sounded very interesting. The first few chapters were actually pretty good, although there were already some things that weren't adding up, plot-wise.
I did like the MMC Jake and his ex-military Brothers. The FMC Jazz,-well....let's just say I'm getting weary of reading about female characters that are described as freaking out over stupid things at the WAY wrong times and DOING stupid things-again, at the WAY wrong times! The world view of women as dumb, hormonal, & weak creatures is bad enough to deal with without FEMALE AUTHORS cementing this view by writing their FMC's this way:(
Now, I will say that Ms. Renard can write spicy scenes pretty well. However, this isn't enough to carry the story and make all of the plot holes/continuum errors in the story believable. There are so many things here that don't make sense (it would be tedious to name them all, trust me). I need a good, believable story to go along with the spice-just sayin'. I gave up finishing this book at the 50% mark-especially after talking with my disappointed fellow readers and finding out it wasn't going to get better.

I feel that my wife explained in her review, much better than I ever could, of why this book is a total disaster and disappointment for me.
I would not suggest to anyone who values great storytelling and who reads for enjoyment, should read this book.

Jake is ex-military and an MMA fighter, Jazz works in a bar. Sparks fly between them and they share a steamy night together. When her ex tries to kill them both, Jake decides he must protect her, so he takes her to a secluded cabin and he will do anything to keep her safe, even if it means punishing her. Fast-paced, steamy read with loads of drama and suspense. I was hooked on this read from beginning to end. I loved it!

Another dark and intriguing book by Loki Renard. It is raw, gritty,
emotionally intense, dangerous, highly erotic and my emotions were
on high alert as it pulled me deeper into the heart of the story.
Be warned, once you set your eyes on the first page, it will blow
your mind.
Jazz and Jake are neighbors in a rundown seedy apartment .Jazz
escaped the cult that she had grown up in and had cut all ties with
her mother.Jazz is uneducated and the only job she could find was
working in a bar.Jake is one hot and very sexy MVA fighter with a hero
complex. His experience in the military has left him disillusioned .
.After many nights of sly glances,Jazz and Jake hook up together.
The best night of her life turned into the worst day ever. Her choice
in men needed a lot of work. That is,until she met Jake.Jazz had been
dating a dirty cop, he now wanted her gone permanently after she
dumped him.Her ex and two of his friends destroyed her place and
are now after Jazz. Jake acts quickly, and they are soon on their way
to stay with his buddies and to safety .Jazz refused to tell Jake who
was responsible for trashing her apartment and wanting to harm her,
but this only led to her sitting on a sore butt for the long drive up
into the mountains.Despite all the horror,a sense of freedom prevails
as they near their destination.Jazz feels worthless and knows that
Jake and his friends would be better off without her.Running away
was foolish and dangerous, once again, she found herself being
punished by Jake's hard hand.
Jake and his three buddies all were highly trained killers after
their time in the military.Reading how badly they had been
treated was difficult. This book is full of surprises but had a
common theme of retribution, despair, apprehension and darkness.
This book is beautifully executed with and a amazing plot .I loved
the darkness that weaved its way throughout the storyline but what
I really loved the soul deep connection between Jazz and Jake.Jazz
connection with Jake was powerful and she never waivered. She knew
he would come back for her

Jake is ex military turned underground MMA fighter.
Jazz well she is broken. She escaped her mothers cult life at the young age of fourteen.
Eight months of avoiding her new neighbor comes to a banging end.
But that is just the beginning. When three men break into her apartment with sadistic intent, then into Jakes , Jakes takes action, not knowing these men are cops until its to late. But they are not just any cops, they're crooked cops and force young woman into being sex slaves. Now on the run Jakes face plastered all over the news as a wanted man in the beatings of three cops and the murder of yup Jazz? Shes not dead.
Dirty cops on their trail, wanted by every law enforcement agency out there they run to the mountains to ex military brothers of Jakes. He gets a warm welcome Jazz not so much.
These men are hard and ready to kill. But Jazz wants to get justice another way. But no they go nack to the city just when Jazz was feeling free and happy.
But the guys must be rusty because the bodies ate found and they were prepared. Read how.
Next thing you know Helicopter are firing at them, police cars are chasing them. Some funny moments and tear stained moments on this book.
But things get serious for Jake when the love of his life sanity cracks. Bringing Jazz to a hospital and leaving her was the only way to save her. Then a yesr later while Jazz is working dead end jobs to save money so she can search for Jake there is a news bulletin that sends her over the edge. DEAD DEAD DEAD, that's all she hears. Read how Jazz takes the news that the man she loved died tragically in a shootout that was all her fault to begin with. They ran his name through the mud and she never corrected them , letting society believe those crooked cops were the heroes. How could she possibly get a HEA out of that? How indeed.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Jazz finally talks to Jake when she sees how beat up he looks one night. She follows him to his apartment and he tells her to wait for him while he gets cleaned up. Jake has been interested in her but she never acted like she wanted anything to do with him. So they talk for a bit before giving into temptation and sleeping together. Just as they were about to fell asleep someone breaks his front door down. He has her wait for him and goes to handle it. Turns out Jazz hasn't been completely honest with Jake and her past has burst through his front door. She was involved with a dirty cop that tried to force her to have sex with his friends. However Jazz refused and broke up with him but he has made her life hell since then by ticketed her car and impounding it when she didn't have the money to afford the fines. She thought it was over but now he and his friends have shown up at Jake's. Jake think that he might've killed one of the cops and just wounded the others because he is a trained MMA fighter so he grabs things from his place and they go to get some of hers only to find out her place has been trashed. As the finally make a getaway they hear a news story where Jake is being blamed for her murder and the assaults on the cops. Will they be able to clear their names? Can they prove that the cops are dirty? Will they stay together?
This is a great story that will have you on the edge of your seat once you start reading. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Another fast, hot read by one of my favorite authors. This book was very storyline driven with characters that come to life in their own gritty, deliciously dominant ways with a feisty female who needs protection but doesn’t want to place anyone else in danger. My emotions ran the gamut of amusement at the inner dialog, gut twisting tension, and despair with an underlying hope that all will end well yet not knowing if that is possible and just the right amount of sizzle to make you want a Hammer of your own. The only bad part is that the story had to come to an end - don’t miss this one.

I like dark romance but when it’s clear that she really isn’t comfortable with something or doesn’t want it he should stop. There wasn’t any safe words or boundary setting. He punished her even when she wasn’t in the wrong and he wouldn’t even hear her side of it. And he made her apologize. I just didn’t feel like he respected her enough. There isn’t enough of a emotional connection or build up really.

Hammer aka Jake is a true bad boy anti-hero. Loved his strong personality, deep commitment, sexy protective instincts, and his badass ability to completely captivate from beginning to end. Jazz is a a girl from the wrong side of town who's had it rough and its made her hard around the edges. She's the perfect match for the tough as nails MMA, ex-military man who's larger than life. Their story is one crazy ride. Enjoyable, crazy, totally worthy of losing the world around you read.

Quick, exciting and very hot!! Jazz and Jake's story is filled with drama, tension, action, romance and danger. I loved the characters and I felt that they had great chemistry. The plot is engaging the pacing of the story was good. Jake was beyond swoon worthy and Jazz was spunky and had a wonderful heart. A thoroughly enjoyable, thrillride of spiciness!

A fast paced, steamy story! This had a great storyline that actually had substance to it and the steaminess made the whole thing a great read.

Another great book by Loki. Jazzy finds herself being stalked by a crazy, psycho ex. Can Jake, the gorgeous man in her apartment building help her? So page turning good. Dark, steamy & so good.

3.75 stars.
I'm slowly working through Loki Renard's books, and this is the 2nd contemporary / non-alien romance one I've read. Storyline is basically Jazz has a one night stand with Jake, her super alpha next door neighbor, and then he gets all protective (it's quite sweet at times) when Jazz's corrupt cop ex-boyfriend tries to kill her and they go on the run. It was less steamy than I expected, and had a lot more action which kept the story moving quickly. Not very character driven, although there was an attempt to give the characters depth by explaining their backstories. Overall I did enjoy it, but would not be rushing to re-read.

WTF!
Another reviewer wrote “WTF did I just read!”, lol, and I feel the exact same way. This was a sad mess of a story with little to no actual romance and a whole lot of poor decision making and be “on the lam”. It was a stupid story not worth reading writing or spending money on. The only saving grace is the few and far between s e x scenes that a couple were mildly stimulating. Enjoy if you want to waste your money and time.

Exciting
Loki has a great imagination. You never know which way the story is going to go. Her characters are amazing and the sex hot. PTh0is from an 80 year old Great Granny.

Not really a believable story where too many things do not make sense.

Not dark, and you keep hoping for it to go "there" but it won't. It doesn't. Sorry. Reasonably smutty.

refreshing
Not the usual romance novel. Takes a new spin on it making it interesting to the end. I absolutely loved it!

Holy shit, this felt like a 300 page book. It's not. But it felt like it.
For sure thought there'd be some double (triple) [quadruple] action knowing Renard. But also knowing Renard, never know what to expect.

Instant heat and then they are on the run
Loki Renard is able quickly to set different scenes as she jumps from one book to another. In this book the characters awkwardly come together and with instant heat, add a quick twist and then they are on the run
A quick short read
Interesting characters, brutal justice, and then on the run. The story is then ‘will they get caught’ when all they want are the simple things “Warmth. Food. Shelter. Friends. Someone to carry you when you can’t walk another step. Someone to fight off evil when it comes to your door”.... plus a little heat

Omg I was in the edge of my seat while reading this fast paced suspense thriller by the Queen of Dark & Sexy. This was about a complicated young woman with low self esteem who meets up with an ex military guy with a hero complex. The events that being them together are scary and at the same time, realistically portrayed.
I really loved the insight Renard reveals about Jake and his pals. Or about military men who try to enter normal society again. It's a reminder how the world treats the men who fight for our country, and how we don't do enough to protect them.
"I heard some guys describe it like being unplugged from the Matrix. Once you’ve seen the real world, the one where brutality reigns, and innocence is something to be traded, exploited, and then destroyed, mainstream life is way too much and also, not nearly enough."
It's clear that Renard respects military and really understands their struggle. Yes, this is dark fiction...But she always mixes it with Truth and expert perception. Jazz is an ex cult member who has no education and is barely getting by. When she and Jake hit it off right away, sparks fly. The two of them go on the run, and the story gets crisp and fast.
Yet again, Renard gives an ending that is unexpected, and extremely satisfying. I didn't find it particularly dark, but it was engrossing as hell. She mixed genres like a pro, making another story of romantic potholes that was fun and unforgettable.

Who doesn't need a Hammer from time to time?...
Hammer is another Loki Renard story with a hotter then heck Alpha, cheeky heroine, sizzling chemistry between them, a dangerous situation, drama, suspense, "romance" and did I mention spanking...................oh there is lots of spanking!!!
This is the story of Jazz and Jake. She is a bartender who is just keeping her head down and trying to stay out of the way of her ex, a cop that is into the darker side of life with pimping out girls and some other stuff. Jake is an ex Marine who was dishonorably discharged and now makes money as an underground fighter. They have been neighbors for 8 months and have not talked to each other but they definitely have a thing for each other. Finally one night is all it takes and they share some between the sheet time. However, her crazy ex and two cop buddies decide to bust up her apartment and then kick in the door to Jake's and try to assault him. Let's just say that does not go well and Jake takes Jazz and they are on the run from the law.
This is an interesting story but I think it could have been better flushed out and more details given. But on the whole I enjoyed reading Hammer and the over the top crazy story, plus the ending.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
