Missing Her More

Rate this book
A heartwarming novel set in the world of Good Man, Dalton!

The Vanderhaven family of Manhattan has it all: wealth, prestige, good looks, and a thriving business empire. But their seemingly perfect world is ripped apart when their younger daughter, eight-year-old Brenna, runs off after overhearing her parents’ arguing. Out on the streets, she quickly realizes she’s lost. Even more frightening, Brenna soon realizes that a man is following her.

Meanwhile, in a townhouse in Brooklyn, Callie Griffin is throwing a birthday party for her one-year-old son, Oliver. The joy of the day is ruined by her sister Lauren’s too short, drive-by appearance. Once close, the two sisters haven’t been able to move past a falling out which took place three years before.

When Brenna notices the strange man getting closer, she panics and takes refuge in the Griffin home, befriending their four-year-old daughter, Summer, who is waiting out the party upstairs.

As family and friends search for Brenna, her absence helps her father realize the importance of family, even as her presence in the Griffin home unwittingly sets in motion healing for a mother’s heart.

This is the novel I’m calling my “surprise book,” because it seeming came out of nowhere after readers of Good Man, Dalton contacted me saying they wanted to know what happened after that story ended. I wasn’t planning on writing a sequel and this isn’t a sequel exactly, since it involves secondary characters and can be read as a standalone. The story begins about a week after Good Man, Dalton ends, and the focus this time is on the Vanderhaven family as they search for their missing eight-year-old daughter, Brenna. Greta and Dalton are involved as well, and the ending is one that I hope will satisfy the romantics who enjoyed the first book.

I want to take this opportunity to say that I truly have the best readers and I’m very grateful to be able to write books for a living. Thank you to those who prompted me to continue the story. Somehow my subconscious found a way forward. I hope you enjoy the book!

Karen McQuestion calls this her "surprise book"! I was certainly surprised and excited to find out that this book was a sequel to Good Man, Dalton. It's so well written that it can be a stand alone read, too. The inscription in Missing Her More is "For the readers who asked for more". I loved the story in Good Man, Dalton and was thrilled the story was going to continue in Missing Her More. I was going to reunite with wonderful characters and meet new ones in a story that I was anxious to read.

It begins with eight-year-old Brenna Vanderhaven overhearing an argument between her parents that extremely upsets her. She feels she has no one to talk to or anyone who will understand except her "Nanny" who has been her rock and there for her all her life. Brenna decides she needs her and leaves her home to go to Nanny where she lives. Brenna finds herself hopelessly lost and becomes a "missing child" in the big city. In the meantime, the family is frantic and finds themselves where no parent ever wants to be. Having a missing child. They come together to support each other. There is much soul searching and reprioritizing they discover that needs to happen in the time that Brenna is missing. I felt their pain and fears. Where could she be in that big city? What kind of things could happen to a lost, little girl? What made her leave home? It's devastating and heart wrenching not knowing where she is or if she's hurt and scared.

Then there's the parallel story that's happening to a family that suffers a devastating loss. It's a tragedy that has two sister's relationship broken and seemingly irreparable because of the circumstances. There is a bit of mild paranormal in this scenario that is unbelievable but is written so well that it's believable and works to bring answers to the family through Brenna and her friend, Summer.

The story has so many lessons written into it. Life can change drastically in the matter of moments. Putting priorities in order. Being there for each other. Opening up hearts and letting forgiveness in. It's about having hope in hopeless situations. It's about love that overcomes.

The ending of the story takes me back to the inscription at the beginning. Asking for more after Good Man, Dalton ended. This is a fantastic sequel and brought the story full circle with the characters I loved. I want to thank Ms. McQuestion for this wonderful read. It was a heart touching story and I enjoyed it so very much.

Karen McQuestion, Author of "Missing Her More" has written a heartwarming, emotional, and entertaining novel. "Missing Her More' is the sequel to "Good Man Dalton". "Missing Her More" can be read as a standalone, but reading both is a great way to become acquainted with the characters. The Genres for this novel are Fiction, Women's Fiction, Romance, with a touch of Magical Realism. The author describes her characters as complex and complicated. This is a book of self-searching and second chances.

Brenna Vanderhaven is a young child having difficulty coping after her parents have a terrible argument. Although Brenna knows she is not allowed to go anywhere by herself, she takes off and heads to the subway hoping to go to her Nanny's house. There is a man that is making Brenna extremely uncomfortable, and she looks for help and changes her seat.

Brenna gets off at a familiar stop but realizes she doesn't know where she is. As she walks each block, looking for a building with a blue door, she gets very tired. Brenna notices the man again.  She passes a house with Birthday Balloons, and a little girl at the window with her dog invites Brenna in. Before long, Brenna is sleeping in Summer Griffin's bed. Brenna learns that Mrs. Griffin and her sister have become estranged.

When the Vanderhaven's become aware that Breena is missing, they get the community and media involved in her search. The Vanderhavens are a very wealthy family. Mr. Vanderhaven realizes that he is an obsessive workaholic that has spent very little time with his family. He promises himself if Brenna is found, he will be a better father and husband. He will get his priorities straight.

I love that the author discusses such important topics as  'Stranger Danger", communication, important priorities, family, friends, emotional support, love, and hope. I recommend this delightful and thought-provoking story.

Oh, what a genuinely heartwarming read! I loved it!
Having read Good Man Dalton, I was eager to read this companion book to it, revisiting characters we already knew, but from a different perspective.
The story is centred around Brenna, the youngest daughter of the Vanderhaven family.
A young girl, born into a family that wants for nothing; her whims catered for, as much as her overprotective parents will allow.
Still, she can't have a dog or her own cell phone or time with her parents.
Then something awful happens.
Along with her sister, Cece moving out, she finds out that her parents are going to fire her Nanny.
Distraught, she decides upon a plan that ends up causing changes no one would have ever envisaged.
People often think that being from a wealthy family means that a person has everything — no reason to be unhappy or disgruntled in any way.
This story shows that real wealth is family and love, not money.
A wonderful read. So wonderful, I ended up reading it in one sitting!

A quick light read with interesting characters. Very hallmark like. If you are looking for a book where the conflict is an 8 year old running away for a few hours this is the book for you! Not a thriller like moonlight child

When it comes to sequels, Missing Her More, the charming story that follows Good Man Dalton, strikes every possible harmonious note. Without her parent’s knowledge or consent, an adorable little girl takes herself off on an adventure and becomes scarily, near hopelessly lost in the middle of New York City. Of course the police are notified. A crime has been committed. But what sort? A clue lies in the wonderful title of this delightful novel. She’s missing, but as her family soon learns while searching for her, she’s not the only one who hasn’t been present. Heartfelt and poignant, with an unexpected and mysterious twist, this story will keep you guessing until the very end. It isn’t necessary to read Good Man Dalton before reading Missing Her More, but I highly recommend it. Karen McQuestion’s books are just a joy to read.

This is a beautiful sequel to "Good Man, Dalton".
However, it can definitely be read as a stand alone.
It is one of those novels that caused my heart to be break as young, sensitive, sweet Brenna has gone missing. She walks out the door without a word and ends of lost in the city. Why?
Brenna knows not to go out alone.
She thankfully ends up being invited into a house of new friend Summer, who beckons her from the window to come up to her room and away from a strange man who is following her.
Brenna wants is to go home to see her family. Will Summer's Mom and Dad help her get back home?
There is love, loss, hurt and anger and acceptance that will need to be resolved as the story continues for both families.
It is a wonderful heartfelt book that I absolutely loved!

Fans of Good Man, Dalton, will enjoy this follow up tale. However if you haven't read it, you will enjoy this story regardless. A sweet tale about a young girl who feels very lonely, and a father whose eyes are opened to the reality of his family dynamics. A look into how a family copes with grief. Realistic interactions between characters, especially the sister dynamic.
I honestly couldn't put this story down and finished it in one day!

I received an ARC of this book. It’s such a sweet story and I really enjoyed reading this book. Relationships are further developed from a previous book titled Good Man Dalton. While I truly liked the Dalton character, I think my favorite was a little girl named Summer. It’s a fun. quick read and I recommend it.

There is no question about it: Karen McQuestion has wrote an breathtaking book. This story picks up right where Good Man, Dalton left off and the majority of the book takes place in less than 24 hours. The plot kept me guessing, and I didn’t want to put the book down. There are two epilogues, which gives closure, but not too much leaving room for another book in the series.

Not For Me

I didn’t care for this book at all, it was just so incredibly “cheesy”—I just don’t know how else to put it—it was “cheesy” and far fetched. I won’t say anymore, because I don’t want to include any spoilers, but this book was definitely not for me, nor would I read anything else by this author.

I read an ARC of this wonderful book which is the sequel to Karen McQuestion's delightful, Good Man Dalton. It was fun to reconnect with the characters, and to watch them grow as their relationships mature as well. The storyline is intriguing and the ending happy. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I was very thankful to win this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.

This was the first book I have read by this author.

This is the story of 8 year old Brenna who ends up missing. She meets a young girl names Summer. Summer ends up affecting many lives. This was an easy, feel good read.

Boring

If I could give this book 0 stars I would. This book was shallow and had no substance to it. The ghost child was a ridiculous story line and the lost child’s rich family was just rich airheads. Worst book I’ve ever read.

Better than the first one about the Vanderhavens

This one is much better than the one that introduced the Vanderhavens to the world of books. For one thing, the over the top carrying on about the wonderfulness of NYC is, thankfully, missing from this one.
Things have changed. The apartment that Cece's hired "best friends" lived in, Cece has taken over, along with Greta. Despite her father's caryomg on, she has informed him that her company will be making HER designs, not spmeone else's, and she will not have the social media presence she once had, and she makes sure her father knows she won't change her mind.
Her arentsnhad returned home earky from their normal Paris vacation, mostly so Harry Vanderhaven could chew his daughter out, fire anyone who supported Cece's new direction, and in general, bend his "wayward" older dughter to his will. Except Cece was having none of it.
Meanwhile, on the way 8n, they had given Brenna a stuffed toy dog, ine that looked fairly realistic bit was a far cry from the real dog Brenna had begged for.
Irate at things not gping hos way, he had decided the nanny who'd faothfully served them for years, holding the household together during their p=otracted absences, was "too lenient" with the girls and thiwbhas led to Brenna's dislike for a childish present, her daring to voice that disaopointment, and for Cece's rebellion, so he fires her. His wife talks him out of his hasty and ill-mannered firing pn her voicemail, so his wife rehires her - again on voicemail - and adds in a nice size binus of she returns.
But Brenna hears only the part about firing Nanny. Upset, she slips down to see her big sister, but it sounds like she'd be interrupting adult things, so she goes down to the lobby, ends up walking outside - nodding at the new doorman who is asking if she's going to walk around the block. She has no moneu, and her smartphone is locked away from her unless her dad releases it to her for a specific puting, but she decides to go see Nanny. Along the way, she gets unexpected help from, in one case, an extremely unexpected source...but all he family knows is that she is gone and no one is sure exactly where to find her.
Rhe book primarily focuses on the search for Brenna, who searches, what they do during the search, how Brenna finds safety, nourishment, and rest, and how she is found. There are a lot of revelations about the family, the nanny, and Cece's new "crew," amd the reconciliation of 2 people, one of whom was involved in Brenna's rescue...and more.
All innall, ot was a much better book than the first one. Greta hasn't gotten over her awe of NYC, but the entire first book led from that to a paean of idol worship to NYC, while this one shows what intrigues the Midwestern transplant, now no longer an intern but a staff member, about her adopted coty amd its ways. It os simply more down to earth.

I really loved this until it got preachy and strayed all over the place.

Jumping perspectives is something I am used to, but this jumped so many times that I started to get annoyed. I loved the Brenna running away and "Summer wasn't really there" storyline. I did not see the twist coming but very much appreciated the hindsight of seeing the little hints of foreshadowing (Summer didn't think she could wake her parents up, not a good idea to join the party, etc...) after the reveal. But after Callie and Lauren made amends, the story strayed so far and the rest was pretty much all about Greta.

I was not invested in Greta's character and her story with Dalton was sickeningly saccharine. I was glad to find out that Cece was happier after wanting to move away from the spotlight, but I was under the impression that her character was at least a little more of a main one than Greta's. We hardly got to know either of their personalities, backstories, and the focus shifting onto Greta seemed SO random.

I didn't mind Harry making a "promise to God" to be better if Brenna was safe, but then "God" was mentioned again and again after that. Greta waiting for Dalton to propose to her, "before God" and everyone else in the restaurant, them getting married "in the presence of God", and "love, honor, and obey"...>.> Preachiness out of nowhere.

All in all, 3/5 for most of the book, but I may not revisit this author.

Edit: Sorry. I've just realized that this book is a sequel, and that explains a bit about why they shifted the focus to Greta, but my review still stands because of the preaching and the saccharine romance.

Another heartfelt novel from Karen McQ

Karen McQuestion has long been one of my favorite authors. She writes about the human condition as experienced from the view of the heart. Her novels tend to feature down to earth people. This novel targeted the family of a wealthy social media star, but the author made the characters out to be relatable human beings.
I don't recall any of McQuestion's other novels including other-worldly events, but this one includes a touch of supernatural. It rounds out the story in a whimsical way that I enjoyed.
Character driven stories are my thing, and the characters in this novel were well developed and likable. There was no need to have a main character in the role of "bad guy" in this one, which isn't easy to do, I'm sure! The character of 8-year old Brenna was my favorite in this book. The role of Deborah, as Henry's wife, was also well done.
If you are a fan of this author, you will not be disappointed. If you are not already a fan, give this book a read. Especially if you are ready to believe in the basic goodness of people, and need a breather from thrillers and action.

Wow! What a story. A story about family, priorities, forgiveness, grief and the magic of moving. There were a couple of moments of gasping surprise! And the title has a double meaning. I love it!!!

I listened to the audiobook read by Rebecca Gibel. I haven't listened to an audiobook in many years but it was enjoyable to listen to as I moved around the house doing chores, folding laundry, cooking dinner. Ms. Gibel does a great job with the narration and the characters' voices.

I highly recommend Missing Her More. It is related to Good Man, Dalton, which doesn't have to be read in order to enjoy Missing Her More but I would highly recommend reading Good Man, Dalton.

Not my favorite from the author

I love this author. I have been on a roll reading her books. They are entertaining and fast reads. This story line was an extension of an earlier book that I really liked. This felt a little to hard to believe. The premise of a run away child being cared for by a deceased 4 year old just did not sit well. Of course it was great the “angels” parents got closure but really??

A very heart warming story about Cece and her family, healing and forgiveness, loss and triumph. My first of McQuestion's books, it definitely won't be my last as it was sweet and touched on a lot of brilliant plots. I didn't give it full stars as I wanted to learn more about the characters, to have them developed and to see what happens next but it was a great story and length for an impactful and sweet plot.

Another great book by McQuestion. One note of warning, this features the same characters from "Good Man Dalton" so for more background I would suggest reading it first. I didn't realize that and was wondering about the background. Although set in current times, for some reason I was thinking more of the 1950's or 1960's. Just the way my mind works, I guess. I also got the characters mixed up a little, especially Callie and Lauren. Overall, a pleasant read.
