Be Yours Trilogy

Be Your Mistake

Rate this book
Wesley Greenway:

I’m a complete f*ck up. I’m now thirty, and I’ve watched all my family and friends grow up and fall in love. They have noisy houses, babies and… happiness.
I hear the silence, night after night in my Minneapolis apartment. Music and tattooing are the only things that keep me sane. And love? Who needs it? I have a “lust and leave” ‘em attitude. It’s served me well… until now.

Until one night in October… I get drunk and make a huge mistake with music’s hottest bachelor.
There’s just one thing, though: I’m not gay. It’s just a mistake.
A mistake that blows all my sanity to the wayside.

Miles Madison:

I’ve lived a charmed life. I’m one of the most popular rockstars in America. I’ve won awards and worked with some seriously hot acts. I’ve done whatever I’ve ever wanted without recourse… until now.

My life is shaken up with scandal, and has left me without a band and without a manager; my career is totally up in the air. For all the fame and fortune I have, I’m now alone. And love? Forget it. I can’t take the risk.

Until one night in October… I have a lapse of judgment and make one of the biggest mistakes of my life. But that mistake gives me hope that all is not lost.
If only I can get Wes to admit that this mistake between us wasn’t a mistake at all.

It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to either one of us.

Be Your Mistake is a "Bisexual Awakening" standalone contemporary MM romance set in the same "world" as my MF Be Yours Trilogy, but can be read entirely separate. This story is suitable for adults only.

I absolutely adored these guys. Wes is a “straight” tattoo artist who is a part time musician and doesn’t believe in love or relationships. He spends a night with Miles, a sexy A list celebrity, and from then on, they can’t stay away from each other. I loved the way they kept pulling away and crashing back together, like they were linked by an invisible elastic and staying apart was literally impossible. It took them a long time to admit their feelings to each other, but once they did, :::swoon:::
And while I understand the readers who are mad about the fake rape accusation trope, it didn’t bother me, Miles was such a sweetheart that you could buy that people would take advantage of him that way. And it was all in the past and not in the current book, so not a main part of the story at all.
I haven’t read any of the previous series so it was a little confusing in the beginning but it can definitely be read as a stand-alone.

4,5 stars.

This book has been quite a rollercoaster ride.

I loved Miles and Wesley and I was soooo happy, when they finally got their well deserved HEA.

Although I haven't read the previous books getting into the story was easy.

This book was absolutely everything I love. Famous person ✔️ GFY✔️ hawt smexy times✔️and lots of love✔️
What a great story. Two men left by loved ones find the one who will stay in each other. I loved this story. The angst, the wrestling with who they are, the nervousness, and the fear of love. This journey was a long one. And it did take a while but when they finally got there what a magical place it was.

The writing was great, the banter between characters where amazing and the smexy time was hawt! I didn’t read past books but I had no issues reading this one.
I am looking forward to the next book.

Honestly, not even sure how I finished this one. It was sooo long and for more than 80% it felt like nothing of substance happened. I skimmed the end, but read enough to know that Wes’ complete 180 wasn’t believable at all and everything with the label and the douche-y manager worked out too easily. Pretty cheesy, IMO.

Also, I can’t put my finger on what it was per-say, but I could tell this author mostly writes M/F. Tbh they both behaved more like teenage girls more than grown men.

I can't get into this one, mainly because it's really bad written, and it needs a lot of editing, and I can't connect with the characters, so it's a no for me.

Love it!!!!

M/M romance is a fairly new concept fairly new trope for me and I felt like this book was the perfect book to ease me into it. I loved this book so much. It was top shelf romance for sure. The author created 2 amazing main characters. Miles 'Brady' Madison is a rockstar with a bad reputation. Rumours mostly, because he's a great guy. Wesley 'Wes' initially has some prejudices about Miles, but soon finds out that there's more to Miles than the tabloids make him out to be. The chemistry between the both of them is palpable, sparks are flying everywhere. And while Wes never thought he would fall for a man, he does. Together they explore their connection and as a reader it's amazing to see how it develops in more.

Not only the plot development blew me away, but these characters and their development was outstanding. They both have to sort through some personal issues in order to fight for their relationship and the way they do it is amazing.

This book is sweet and funny and will probably be one of my favourite reads of this year. I love it and could reread it over and over again. (Hell, I already read it twice!)

So I asked myself, do I really want to write a review for a book that I only had a free sample of and the answer was "Yes. Yes, I do."

I thought the premise was interesting and the writing serviceable but I constantly kept being thrown out of the story by bizarrely worded sentences that made me stop and try to figure out what the author intended. The book just screams for an editor. I am being particularly harsh because the author has many other published books and bragged in the forward that "I've worked my butt off to make it as good as it possibly could be". Apparently making sufficient editorial passes to make sure that what she was writing makes sense was not part of that effort. And while this book might be typically of the shlock that makes up so much of the Kindle Unlimited subscription service, it in no way warrants the ebook price of $4.99. I couldn't even make it all of the way through the free sample.

I thought I was doing a stellar job of dealing with all of the careless writing, until I happened across this pair of sentences. "I barely spoke to him really over that whole weekend over the summer". Wow. Now that's what they call a long weekend. Apparently this weekend lasted an entire summer. Then just a sentence later I find this gem: "I remembered riding with him in his Mustang, sitting on the phone the entire time, watching the headlines " OK then. That must have been really uncomfortable sitting on your phone for the entire trip. Alas, we are not to learn whether or not the screen was cracked during this ride.

I can't. I just can't.

I feel like 5 stars don't quite show how much I loved this book. It was amazing! It kept me torn between wanting to hug both of them or wanting to beat them senseless for their foolish stubbornness, specially Wes. But in the end, everything worked and it was just perfect. I do wish however, that we had a bit more of their story after they got married. PLEASE, PLEEEEAAASSE write a sequel to their story. Even if it's a shared story with another couple, but please bring them back. Thank you for this book, definitely one of my top 3 so far in this year.

Read it! Past the first 5%!! So so well written!!!

This is such a good and emotional book! Its done in a very deliberate and well thought out way that shows so many facets of society, love, and relationships! I saw a review post in amazon stating that this book shouldnt be read past first 5% because it mentioned false accusations twice but if that reader would have bothered to read more these are explained and if someone truly believes that flase accusations and such doesnt happen and is just a way for someone to bring down women who are raped they are wrong. As wrong as it is to do, there are some who do it and ruin others lives while making it harder for real victims to seek help. And all should remember that victims can be both male female, some thing else carefully addressed in this story. The writer clearly took time to try to explain the situations that happened in the beginning along with handling such a hard subject with proper care an reverence. THIS STORY BLEW ME AWAY!!! Its one that will stay with me forever! Please dont turn away because of one readers unfair accusations and misinformed opinion!!

It was never a mistake....

This was a wonderful read. The mix ups and make ups were tastefully done. I also enjoyed how their actual friendship and relationship developed. It felt very organic yet hot and saucy.

Wonderful read.

This book wrecked me in so many ways. The characters are so honest and believable, the story is so sweet and raw. The relationship between Wes and Miles is beautiful and flawed but they love each other enough to keep trying. Who could ask for more in an author's MM genre debut. I truly hope she continues the story with these guys!

DNF @ 5%. Normally I wouldn't even bother to rate from that little, but this was way too problematic to let go. Two separate mentions of women falsely accusing two different guys of rape. In the first 5%!!! REALLY? In 2020 we're still going to perpetuate this lie? Author going on my never ever list.

Miles and Wes....characters I've got to know in other books, get a chance to share their story, and wasn't it a cracker! I loved that we got to interact with the characters from other books - but Be Your Mistake can be read as a stand along. The story was raw, emotional and real. I hope there is more!

Wes and Miles have both made mistakes. Miles' have just been more public. When everything falls apart, these two fall together. But it's just a hookup, right? They don't do commitment.
Angsty, rock star redemption romance that's not like everything else you've read.

Not a mistake

So this was a story about engaging in certain behaviors thinking it is a mistake but later finds out it is an actual surprise. One of the main characters was a bit more insecure than the other. But they seemed to be able to figure things out.

I received an advanced/review copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content and honesty of my review.

Review
You know those books you read where the main characters are so clearly in love with each other that you just want to shake them and tell them to get their sh*t together so they can just be with one another?

Yeah. This was one of those books.

Both characters have some pretty big–albeit understandable–hangups when it comes to relationships, which heavily influence their interactions with each other. Add in outside forces who care far more about Miles’s image than the man himself and there are so many pressures on this couple that at times, it’s actually somewhat anxiety-inducing (or maybe that’s just because I have severe anxiety? …)

Hero
Miles is one of the most popular musicians in the country–but because of some things he’s done, plus rumors of things he’s done, he’s busily trying to clean up the public’s perception of who he is. The biggest one being that Miles was accused of sexual assault of a couple women who were in his life for the wrong reasons. This is a majorly touchy subject and I commend Sariah for approaching it the way that she did because while rape and sexual assault are absolutely a problem in this country (and around the world), there also is a problem with women–or even men–falsely accusing someone of sexual assault/rape for their own gain. Not only do false accusations hurt the falsely accused and their loved ones, it completely discredits those who have real, honest experiences with sexual assault. Those who’ve dealt with sexual assault have a hard enough time without asinine people attempting to “cry wolf,” so to speak, and making true experiences seem doubtful.

But I digress…

Miles is sweet and, unlike his public persona, endearingly shy. He’s so freakin’ adorable that I just wanted to hug him. The author has stated that his appearance is extremely similar to Shawn Mendes, so, you know, I was a fan before I even read the book, lol. (Also, this was the best mental image while reading. I just love Shawn. Sigh.)

Hero
Wes is, in a way, stereotypical tattooed bad boy–and has the promiscuous reputation to go with it–but he’s actually much deeper than I was expecting. I mean, I probably should’ve known better considering how deep Sariah’s characters tend to be, but it was still a pleasant surprise.

Wes comes from a broken family. His dad split when he was young and that has colored his view of relationships now that he’s an adult. He has trust issues and doesn’t see the point of a relationship going any further than a romp in the sheets … until Miles, that is.

Part of the fun of reading this book was watching the development in both characters. Not only from the aspect of them being two men in a relationship, but watching how they deal with feelings that go beyond having a f*ck buddy.

Bullet Points
*Miles’s agent is a grade-A dick. I can’t even tell you how badly I wanted to punch this dude in the face. And then … he surprised me and I’ve forgiven him a little bit. That’s all I’m saying 😉
*The way Miles has to hide a huge aspect of his life–and the damage that hiding causes–was heartbreaking to read. I felt so bad for him–and Wes.
*I loveloveloved the Evan cameo. She’s so awesome, and the way Jordan got all possessive of her? So hot. (If you haven’t read Infamous, you definitely need to.)
*Jamie–Miles’s friend/housekeeper–is a fricken gem. He’s so hilarious and adds such a great presence to this book!
*This book has an abundance of sex. lol. So if you’re looking for a fast burn storyline with lots of action, look no further ;P

Conclusion
I’m still super new to the M/M genre, and while I will say it’s not my favorite subgenre of romance and I don’t foresee it becoming my favorite, I do enjoy the change of pace every now and then. I enjoyed this book and a lot of that has to do with the two main characters themselves. I just loved Miles and Wes so much–both on their own and as a couple. Watching their relationship progress from friendly to friends who fool around to two guys in love was a lot of fun to read. Plus each man has a unique personality and getting inside their heads while they’re dealing with new feelings and struggling to understand their developing relationship was so sweet and even heartwrenching at times. What these guys go through isn’t easy and my heart really went out to them, but I love how they grow and learn.

What are your thoughts on M/M romance? Are you a huge fan, don’t care for it, or somewhere in between?

Happy reading!

This is my first MM book ever. I have read books with some MM in them, but never a straight up MM book. I wasn't really sure what to expect, so I tried to keep a pretty open mind.

Honestly, I think it turned out fairly well. You can feel the angst and fear of labels associated with being gay, especially while being in the spotlight.

Additionally, I think it helped, for me personally, that my first MM included characters I had already been introduced to in previous books. I was able to take the little I knew of these characters from the books they were introduced in and watch them grow from there. It was neat.

Overall, I did enjoy the story and I would recommend for anyone who is interested in MM. If you aren't into MM, obviously I would stay away from it. Additionally, I would only recommend it if you are interested in reading the smexy scenes as there are many. I did find myself skimming through toward the end because although they can be important, and I often enjoy a great scene, there were just so many. I want more storyline, and I want my smexy scenes to be important to that storyline not just there for the sake of being there. A few felt a little unnecessary to me.

Be aware, however, that this is not the only subject delved into in this book. I have heard some people complain about other aspects that are addressed, for example, false accusations of sexual assault. All of this is discussed in the book and are important to the storyline and fully explained by the end. Whether you like it or not, the fact is this does unfortunately happen, and quite frankly I think bringing awareness to it is important in any media because it affects all legitimate cases too.

Enjoyed!

Romance about an A list musician and a tattoo artist/part time musician. They connect when they are in same place for a concert. Miles/Brady is a bit lost and lonely as his band is breaking up. Wes has never been attracted to a man before but they have a hot and drunken night together. Freak out over not being gay ensues....followed by need to stay in the closet due to record label....then some freak out over being in love and fear of losing the other. Miles makes some big gestures and seems to be the more giving. Wes' fear of abandonment inhibits him from expressing or accepting love for a while. Miles also plays the poor little rich boy at times and his own fear of being dropped by label inhibit him. There was a lot of back and forth and we are just friends with benefits talk. I would have liked to see more of them as a couple. There's not a lot of real talk between them...I think even texts while separated could have driven the romance more. Ending is wrapped up quickly with a HEA.

Great story, prose needs a line edit

I only rated this book so highly because I enjoyed every minute of reading it. I recommended it to two friends who couldn’t get past the first chapter because the grammar and typos are sometimes really cringey. Usually I wouldn’t be able to get past that, but I think the writing was genuinely good, just needed to be edited better.

Regardless, I truly and genuinely adored this book. Wes and Miles were wonderful characters and I could feel their love for each other through the pages. The story had a satisfying end as well, and there was no “break up” in the third act like I was worried about. The sex was scorching and very enjoyable, though there was a really unfortunate typo at a climactic moment that makes me REALLY wish there had been better editing!

Overall, 3 stars for writing quality and 5 stars for story quality, so I settled on a solid 4. I do recommend trying this book even if you are wary of the grammatical mistakes.

Damn, Be Your Mistake by Lizzie Fox and Sariah Skye, is a fantastic rocker romance. Part of the Be Yours Trilogy, it is easily read as a standalone.

Miles is a closeted bisexual rocker, who is fighting both personal and professional problems. Wesley's a straight acquaintance who suddenly is experiencing a sexual awakening with the rocker star. Thus the beginning of a gay for you story for one man, and an out for you story for the other.

This is a story that grows from acquaintances to friends, from friends to mutual attraction, from attraction to fooling around, and ultimately from fooling around to love. There are plenty of hot moments, including a lot of steamy first times, which is always fun.

These two men have some major complications in their way. One doesn't believe in love, the other doesn't believe himself worthy of love. Their story is one of doubts and fears, paparazzi problems, and hiding. It expertly explores the emotions of finding someone who stands up for you. It's both beautiful and emotional.

The writing is stellar, with deep, complex characters and a wonderful pace. Everything flows seamlessly in this riveting and compelling romance.

I really enjoyed this book and plan to go back and read the earlier MF books from this series.

Be Your Mistake is an emotional story of finding someone who loves you as a person, not as a star. This Lizzie Fox and Sariah Skye romance is perfect when you're looking for a gay for romance. I love every moment of it and will definitely be re-reading it at some point.

Rock star romance

A sweet bisexual awakening, first gay relationship between a rock star and a tattoo artist.
This book is part of a series but as the only MM so far, it's designed to stand alone, and for the most part it does. There's a list of characters in the back that would have helped me if it had been in the front.
I connected with the characters and cheered for them. The story got a little bogged down in the middle, I think, but I was invested so I kept reading and enjoyed the journey.
I appreciated that the sex between two guys who hadn't been with guys before was handled well. It wasn't all perfect, and it helped solidify the connection between them.
I will definitely give the next MM book by this author a try.

I really liked this book, but for some reason I kept getting tripped up on the editing, or rather, lack thereof. And I usually can ignore those. It’s like this is the first draft with some edits, and the editor didn’t catch all the mistakes or awkward phrasings, etc. But I really did like the story.

It took me too long to finish because I wasn't really invested on it... and it was just too long. I ended up skimming through the end. Also, the ending was just a bit to unrealistic and just to "disney" (the manager appearing out of nowhere and magically handing him some contracts? lol). Not really beliavable. Some parts were good, I actually liked some characters, but it wasn't... amazing.

Would’ve loved to give it 5 stars

I really enjoyed this story. The push and pull was worth the read but at times it became a bit too much… will they or won’t they?! The editing needed to be so much better. At times I was too distracted by missed words that I almost dnf’d but I wanted to get to that HEA.

I wanted to like it. It had two of my favourite elements of an mm romance: tattoos and musicians.
Unfortunately, they focused on non of the intricacies of either profession. You could have switched out either job and the story would read fine. It also had loads of supporting characters that I think it expected you to know and I didn't.
