Janet was a maneater. She knew what men wanted, took what she pleased and used that to her advantage. But the men who lived in the small colonies on her home planet were not the same as those who traveled and conquered the universe. They were nothing like the Cyborgs who showed up to solve all her family’s problems, especially the green-eyed god who crowded her space. So she used him like she used the rest—and bit off far more than she could ever chew.Zeph carried a demon on his back, one that scratched at the inside of his skull relentlessly. No one would guess that the neon green knight had a terrible secret, not with his charm and his lies. And because of his charisma, his razzle-dazzle darkness, the EPED used him for all he was worth. But sometimes missions can’t be fixed with diplomacy. Sometimes you have to follow your own instincts—even a croc’s instincts—to go after what you really want.He wanted Janet. He wanted to keep her.But the demon wanted something else entirely.--Author Chaos Croc is a romance with explicit violence, strong language, and heated scenes. Mature readers only.

“There isn’t a place in the universe we can’t go now that it’s ours for the taking”

I think this series either you like it or hate it. I don't like all the stories equally, but I find all of them fascinating.

“You just ate my underwear…”
Zeph’s face shifted back to normal. “Is that a deal breaker?”
“I don’t fucking know!”

Zeph, as all the main characters in the series, is a shifter. And a Cyborg. He is ruthless, determined, unbreakable, unstoppable and when he wants something or someone, he gets it.

Since book Shark Bite, he wanted Janet. Janet is a bit of a slut, a bit of man-eater, a bit of sassy, a bit of self-centred girl. But she also loves her family and she would do anything for them.

So, when Zeph makes a mistake and besides Janet, he also kidnaps her little sister; Janet will do anything to keep her safe.

But why did he take Lily? Janet could understand why he’d kidnap her, but what could the Cyborg want with a five-year-old?

Well, Zeph only wanted Janet and now he is in trouble because he has to take care of a child too.

Anyway, as the title says, Zeph is a crocodile shifter. He is cunny and bloodthirsty. He will think of something.

But he is also a "Chaos Croc" which means that you need to expect a chaotic story.
If Zeph a psychopath? Or a man in love?
If he a schizophrenic? Or he just suffers a post dramatic stress disorder?

Whatever is his problem, I truly enjoyed this space adventure and all the fights he had with Janet.

I love cyborgs and shifters, so this is the best of both worlds!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🩵🖤❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☺️😍🥰😁

The heroine: Janet - she is human and comes from a wealthy family on a planet called Kepler that is covered in oceans. Her family have a huge estate with lots of security to protect themselves, but their agri-lot had been plagued by issues and mysterious disappearances, so they contacted the Earthian Planetary Exploration Division (EPED) to send some Cyborg shifters to help them out in exchange for all of their product from this year. That is how she met Zeph, and like she normally did to protect her family, she seduced him to find out his secrets and make sure he wasn’t a danger to her family. Afterwards, she couldn’t even look at him because he got her heart racing.

The Hero: Zeph - he is a cyborg shifter, a crocodile, and he is a hero from the Galactic Wars. He and the shark cyborg shifter Netto took the job with Janet’s family and tracked down a leviathan inhabiting the ocean on their Agri-lot. Netto and Janet’s sister Rylie fell in love, yet after Zeph’s night with Janet, she wouldn’t even look at him, which made him angry. He wanted her and was determined to have her, so he kidnapped her before leaving the planet on his spaceship.

The Story: Little did Zeph know, but Janet’s five-year-old sister Lily was also on his ship when it left Kepler. Though Lily wanted to travel the Galaxy in a spaceship, like in her favorite video game. She was excited to go on an adventure since at home she could never do anything. She lived on an ocean planet but could never go swimming when she wanted. Zeph couldn’t return Janet or Lily because after kidnapping them, he was wanted by the EPED and his boss Nightheart, and he set back feelings that humans had toward the cyborg shifters a long way after his actions.

I liked the premise of this book and the fact that Zeph kidnapped Janet, though I didn’t really like some of the personality traits Janet had. She used her looks to sleep with competitors of her family to learn their secrets. She told herself she did it to protect her family, but really? Then she basically did the same thing to Zeph, using him then discarding him. I don’t like a heroine like that. I don’t like a virgin heroine, and my favorite heroines don’t need to be pure in all ways, but I don’t like them to use their beauty or their bodies for personal gain either. Too trashy and/or nefarious for my liking.

2 out of 5 stars. A disappointment.

I’ve really enjoyed the series, so I am gonna right this off as not for me and continue. I had trouble getting into this and basically spead read it because if I stopped I would not finish. Let’s talk about characters.

Janet I wasn’t a fan of Janet in her sister’s book Shark Bite and this book did nothing to make me like her more. So her characterization as stated in the first sentence of the synopsis is she’s is a “maneater” or per modern term a sl*t. I am all for women having embraced their sexuality and it’s messed up that women are disparaged as “promiscous” while men are seen “manly” if they are having a lot of sex with different people. However, your personality is more than your body count and Janet only ever felt like a vessel for which Zeph found a woman of his own. I get that she slept around to protect and learn information for herself and family but she needs more nuance in her characterization. Beyond her sexual prowess she has was always being compared to older sister Riley.

Zeph/Hector I was confused why he abducted Janet. I mean her sister was mated to Netto and clearly the family is not anticyborg. Maybe Zeph and Netto weren’t close but come on… abduction? The entire book he tries to controll his crocodile but he sucks at it. There is a lot of drama about his brother or is it him or his brother. If you read you’ll get what I mean.

Lily Janet and Riley’s little sister. She was accidentally abducted by Zeph when he abducted Janet. Kids are sneaky things. Very adventurous. Wants to see the worlds like in her video games. She is the reason I think kids younger than 7 shouldn’t have video games.

Nightheart Zeph’s boss turned man who calls for a bounty on him. Very conveniently in a very disappointin and confusing conclusion that

Yeah this was a weak installation to the series but I have loved a lot of Naomi Lucas and most of this series so we’ll try again next time. But I am waiting atleast a month until I continue.

Alright, guys. There will be spoilers in this review. A lot of spoilers.

The first half of the book I enjoyed. So, let's start there.

The book starts with our h, Janet, waking up in a room that is definitely not her own and also, she quickly decides, not the result of a one night stand. Off to a promising start. This quickly morphed into her realization that Zeph had stolen her away and she let's her rage and aggression out on her room. Baaasically throwing a tantrum. An understandable one though, nonetheless. Meanwhile Zeph is on his way to stop her from hurting herself when he hears wailing and goes to investigate. When he stumbles upon Lily it turns into an "Oh Dear Lord" kind of moment for him.
Can I just add though, I loved every single scene with Lily in it. Mr. Heartface, her adorable android companion, also quickly weaseled it's way into my heart.

description

The book moves fairly quickly and the half that I enjoyed happened over a span of, I don't know... a few days? But in those few days you see Janet interact with her sister, which I adored because you see her growing into responsibilities and wanting to just be a protective big sister. And then you see her interact with Zeph, which I felt pretty "meh" about. This is all entirely due to the fact that they were both so freaking confusing.

And due to all of that, like other readers have mentioned, this book was a bit of a mess. Especially after the 50% mark.

description"/

You have Janet. Our heroine. The Maneater. She could just not decide on whether or not she was going to be a snobby bitch who only wants to use him for his body or a caring mature woman who showed him genuine affection.

description"/

The author tries to show you another side to Janet, I did pick up on that. But it just did not come across. Let's go over what we learned and see how it's all supposed to add up, shall we?

She felt like she was constantly being compared to her older sister, Rylie. Check.
Rylie was being groomed to take over the family business so Janet felt like she was only useful for her looks and what she could do with them. Check.
She gave up her virginity to shitty guys because they were making bets on who would take Rylie's virginity and then her father found out and killed them and then didn't talk to her for a year... Check? I'm actually not quite sure. I don't quite see the logic in this.

Up until she reveals this to Zeph you get brief thoughts about it and how she doesn't need to go back to that time and relive it. It kind of makes it sound like she was raped but then she explains it and you're left thinking... you gave up your V card to teach boys a lesson. I feel a little mislead. She made a mistake which I get, I'd be super upset about it later on too. Not everyone can have an amazing story about losing their virginity.

Wink, wink.

description

Just kidding. Awkward and over extremely quickly.

But, supposedly that turned her into the woman we come to know today and you're left struggling to understand her actions.

But then you have Zeph. Or maybe it's Hector... Hephor? You see him the entire book struggling to control the croc inside of him. His skin turns green when he loses control and his hair turns black and he is not hulking out. Which would have been an improvement, unfortunately. You get to see flashbacks when he's losing his shit to his time with his brother, Hector, who was a chameleon cyborg shifter. They had been born around the same time and they stuck together after the war to work for the EPED as a team. Sweet, right? But then you find out that they were attacked by these crab things and ZEPH died in the battle leaving HECTOR to kill him out of mercy. Because he was so injured he took parts of Zeph, including his mind, and put himself back together.

… Interesting.

But, (and these but's will just keep on coming) when he reveals all of this to Janet she decides to leave him and blah blah blah another cyborg comes in and Hephor is trying to talk his way out of it when Janet comes out of hiding, thinking she can fix it. Ultimately however, she makes it so much worse by getting him killed. Dun, dun, dun!!! She and Lily wake up on another spaceship on their way back to their home and family where she learns that Zeph, was in fact, killed. She gets home with her family and then takes over the business with her sister, Rylie. Netto is there too, all dashing and freaking wonderful as always. But, Janet has accepted what has happened and is planning on maintaining her status of widowed young lady.

BUT, you come to find out that the man of her dreams (I think) is in fact alive and well. He also awoke on the same spaceship as his ladies, coming face to face with his boss, Nightheart. Who explains in the most confusing and disappointing conclusion to his fucked-up baggage, that Hector is a chameleon. And that Zeph was just a figment of his Chameleon induced imagination. He is a crocodile still, somehow... you don't know how exactly. But he is.

I won't lie, it reminded me a little of something we shouldn't talk about. FOR SO MANY REASONS.

I know this bad boy has been long winded, but I like to be thorough. You may thoroughly enjoy this book, goodness knows I love this author and up until this book, I loved the series. Still do. This one was just a bit of a let down.

I absolutely love this series, and this was a wonderful addition! I wasn't too keen on Janet when she first appeared in Shark Bite, but she had a lot of growth in Chaos Croc, and we got to delve into why she is the way she is. I'm glad she found someone in 'Zeph'. And I really loved Zeph with every page that I turned.

There were also moments of humor that popped up within the dark moments. My favorite, which I laughed out loud at was

"You just ate my underwear..."
Zeph's face shifted back to normal. "Is that a deal breaker?"
"I don't fu***** know!"

And the twist in this book! You have the read it to find out, and Naomi did a wonderful job. I didn't see it coming. I kept guessing, but I hadn't gotten it until the reveal.

First off, I've really enjoyed this series overall. BUT. Sometimes the author takes narrative leaps that I have to puzzle over to figure out. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as shown by the fact I keep reading these books, but the THING with Zeph took me a while to catch on to.

On the other hand, I'm still thinking about it, so it's in my head. Not in a buzzing, irritating way, either. It's just there. I'm circling around it. I think I'm okay with that.

(For the record, I do understand what happened. I'm simply puzzling over if I caught the clues I was supposed to catch. Because I thought things were going in a VERY different direction than they ended up going.)

So. Janet and Zeph. Janet was...not my favorite character in Rylie and Netto's book. She came across as hard and wild and as someone who didn't care who she hurt as long as she got what she wanted in the end. Which...I didn't love. I can't say I entirely understand her reasoning as to why she acted like she did, but I think I understand her a little more than before. And she really does love her family. That comes through loud and clear. She loves them enough to risk everything to keep them safe.

As for Zeph. Wow. That dude has baggage. Quite a lot of baggage. Baggage he needs to figure out if he wants to have even an inkling of a chance at a (mostly) normal life with Janet. The guy's a mess and he still has all the possessive, obsessive tendencies that his cyborg brothers have when it comes to their special someone. Which makes him dangerous. AS CYBORGS ARE.

Gloriously MESSY. And fun. And a little dangerous. And WHO IS THAT MYSTERIOUS MASKED STRANGER? I'd like to know more about him.

I’m normally all over the freaks created by Noami Lucas. I mean … come on … sex scenes between a shark boy and a miniature human (Shark Bite)… it was so well done. But I was struggling with this one.

We met Janet for the first time in Shark Bite, where she goes and seduces Zeph and then tries to ghost him. But like all of Noami Lucas's shifter cyborgs he's a bit different. First of all he has a little … shifting problem. Secondly he seems to struggle with some split personality problems and so it is no surprise to anyone that he goes ahead and kidnaps Janet to work through his problems by fucking her. But he didn’t anticipate having her little sister join them. That put a spanner into his kidnapping fantasies.

The characters developed in Shark Bite do not make it into Chaos Croc. It seems only very few traits have been taken over to the new book and we discover Zeph and Janet anew. It’s a shame as I was rather interested in seeing how the old Janet would deal with the crazy Zeph. Also there is no chemistry between them whatsoever. Not sure if that’s to blame of the introduction of a 5 year old side character as a cock blocker, or just a lack of interest in the actual love story. All in all the book feels really disjointed.

Having read each and every installment in this series, I was looking forward to this one too. Zeph & Janet had supporting roles in Shark Bite and I was interested to see how their story would evolve. Unfortunately the storyline was too complex, confusing (for me), and difficult to follow with a couple head scratching moments. I finally just had to throw in the towel.

I won't provide a rating as I fully acknowledge that I don't have that right as I didn't fully read this book .... okay. I read up to the 25% degree then flipped to the ending as I always want to know how my characters were doing but that still.

I'm a big fan of the series and look forward to the next one. It's just this one didn't work for me.

Well, I'll give the author credit: while the premise is creepy (capture-fantasy is not my thing), she managed to make the actual romantic development kind of sweet, all things considered.

She also managed to create yet another monster-shifter-hero that defied my expectations. I saw some other reviewers mention that this book was confusing, and I agree, but the confusion made sense to me? But saying that, I'm really fond of unreliable narrators. If that's not your jam, you'll probably have a hard time with this.

I very much enjoy this series but I had a difficult time getting into this one. There wasn’t enough character development for me and because of that I didn’t get the relationship progression I like to see. I felt disconnected from their emotions. All that, and I figured out the twist beforehand so when the fallout came I was like, “ok, so, what’s the big deal?”

Like I said, really fun series, just not my favorite

Not ok

I'm ok with a little bit of coercion but ONLY if I feel that the other half is faking being against it. However not for once did I feel that Janet wanted to be with Zeph. He kidnapped her and she repeatedly stated that she wanted to go home. The whole time I was reading this I felt WRONG.

It just didn't feel believable and gave me the creeps.

This one had me scratching my head.

The first thing I didn’t really like was how the mmc kidnapped the fmc. That is something I can get with if they don’t know each other and it’s happening because of outside factors like ransom.

But Zeph/Hector pulled a Reid. And what’s funny is that all the cyborgs were talking about how Gunner is the loose cannon and the devil, but to me Zeph and Reid are worse than Gunner.

Anyway, about the Zeph/Hector mashup. They were really ‘brothers’. And Zeph really existed. But didn’t exited within his body that Hector took, it was all a fractured piece of Hector’s personality in order to keep him sane. What?

He’s not a very fleshed-out character. Yes we know he’s unstable as hell, and can be very charming, and is a playboy.

It was just difficult to be charmed by him when he kidnapped Janet. Instead of staying on Kepler and hounding her heels in a straightforward manner, he takes her in the middle of the night.

But ok. He’s unstable and that’s why he did that. He was ready to run away before being assigned to Kepler so that was him taking off with his trophy.

Speaking of trophy, I didn’t like Janet in the prior book, and my opinion of her didn’t really change with this book. Someone who’s a true maneater doesn’t care about family so mafia-deep like she does. Because there’s not a believable compartmentalism between the sociopathic seductress and the naive girl who loves her family. This tries to make her out as a sort of hooker with the heart of gold trope, but falls flat.

Lily’s character was cute, but I have a hard time believing a cyborg wouldn’t secure his shit enough to keep a 5 year old from breaking in. But maybe if he’s unstable enough. But can’t the cyborgs tell how many living things are on their ships? Aren’t they all, to a fault, paranoid as all hell about their privacy?

Lastly, the author has serious issues with to/too with every book. At this point it’s kind of funny. I guess it’s like knowing which is a stalagmite and which is a stalactite. (I think the stalactite is the one on top. But I’m bad at remembering that.)

If Ms Naomi reads this, which I doubt, you use “too” when you are adding something to something else together. ‘Too’ has two o’s. They are what? Together.

So ‘too’ is for putting something together. Example: “I’m hungry.” “Me too.” Meaning I am hungry together with you. We are two o’s together. So it’s me TOO. :)

An interesting book for Zeph and Janet

I am reading this series of Cyborg Shifters and enjoying them. As I have mentioned previously these are more Sci-fi than romance, but the still are good reads. You have to suspend reality a bit for this one because of the kidnapping of Janet and the stowaway Lily, who is the younger sister. Zeph fell in love with Janet in an earlier book for Netto and Rylie. He thought he could walk away but his crocodile called her mate. So he kidnapped Janet. Unfortunately Lily somehow ended up on the ship too. Now Zeph allowed Janet and Lily to phone home and let her family know that they were well and safe. So why not call off the hunt for them? Zeph said that he would return Lily home. Even Gunner offered to take Lily home. That part of the storyline rang odd for me. Let those things go and continue reading. This one ends in a happy but sad way. I was hoping for more duality but that didn’t happen. I will not spoil the surprise plot and climax. Read On!

Cool concepts of Cyborg Shifters.
Overall I liked Zeph/Hector (you’ll see) but it was a bit difficult to follow when some of the issues between Zeph and Hector flared up. No this isn’t a threesome but it is interesting none the less. This one is.....well you know it’s a Croc but it is also a C.....oops you will have to read to see! Sweet, sexy and a good set of plots move these books along quickly. They are a fun ride into space and beyond. It has an ecology mindset about what we are currently doing to our planet but it isn’t in your face or present in every comment about Earth. It is sad what they did to their Earth but we are on par with them now so I can’t say this dystopia hasn’t got merit.

Overall these books are all great reads with solid plots and good character and world building.

This book ended up being better than I thought it would be, and I did go into it with as open minded as I could but Janet's personality and behavior from the previous book she was in was really off-putting to me. I think the real saving grace of this book was the little sister and Mr. Heartface, to be honest. I did like Zeph's character and his plot twist was fairly obvious but I still enjoyed it. And I also get and understand why Janet did things in the past that she did but it still couldn't redeem her for me as basically she was just acting as a slut and using men. People like that who use their promiscuity to just get things they want or to mess with or play with people then toss them aside just bother me. This series is still great to me and I look forward to the next book greatly.

Hector \ Zeph and Janet

I really enjoy Naomi Lucas cyborg books. Chaos Croc was about two people fighting within themselves and taking it out on one another. Janet has used her looks to manipulate the men around her for the good of her family, I ti! She meets the one man/ cyborg that truly make her feel genuine emotions. Zeph a cyborg at war with himself, until! He meets Janet who quiets his inner self and Bri be him peace. Together after serious soul searching love blooms between them. After many mistake some action and a whole lot of adventure our couple come to terms with their pasts and allow love to take over. I can't wait until the next book comes out .

2.5 - A bit convoluted towards the end

Janet and Zeph were… fine I guess. By far my least fave couple of this series. Partly because I disliked the “reason” behind Janet’s apparent promiscuity. Like can’t she just be sex positive? It has to be couched in so much shame.
I’m all about a good abduction storyline but I feel like the author tried to hard to keep up the so called “honor” of the MC despite his kidnapping. Like, if you’re kidnapping someone you don’t have much honor anyway and maybe embracing villainy to some degree would be more helpful.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: abduction, dubcon, gore, violence, murder

New author and loved it!

This is a new author for me but the synopsis drew me in and so I tried a sample of the book first and was instantly hooked. Read the entire book in an afternoon. I love paranormal romances and have read many. Almost too many because lately I've been in a book funk, unable to find anything I remotely liked or held my interest for more than a few pages. But I really liked this one and plan to read more of her work. It's a different type of alien PNR romance but hit all the right spots for me!

Not My Favorite Cyborg Shifter Story

I like, really like this author's work, and have enjoyed the the whole cyborg shifter series...except for Chaos Croc. This one didn't "grab" me like the others. Maybe it was because juggling the whole secondary persona in the storyline, I never felt I got to experience, in depth, the bizarre and wondrous shifter thinking like I did in the other stories. The somewhat split personality confused and, for me, took away from the story.
On the other hand, this hasn't taken away from eagerly awaiting your next book, Naomi Lucas!

Lots of artists and turns

I've enjoyed all the books in this series, but this one may have been my favorite. I definitely didn't expect the surprise. This series is so different from anything in the genre, but it totally works together somehow. Ms. Lucas builds a strangely believable world, with well fleshed out characters. I would definitely recommend this book and this series.

I soooo enjoyed this read!

I have to admit I don’t read this series in order, I’ve been jumping around so this is the 1st time of me hearing about Zeph. I loved the chemistry between him and Janet but I do feel like maybe I missed out on something between them with me not reading Netto’s book. And somewhere along the lines I totally missed out on the cyborg’s having kids, how freaking adorable!

Super weird book, it starts after the main event has happened as they have met and slept with each other in the previous book. We read about some familiar characters, too.
Well, he kidnaps her and her small sister ends up with them sneaking on the ship, they start running until they don't.
Can't say I will read it again. But if you are a fan of weirdness, by all means, keep reading you will be rewarded.

So many typos

This entry wraps up the cliffhanger from book 3 rather well.
A couple twists that seemed too convoluted.
What makes it more of a 2.5 star read is the extreme amount of typos.
To/too and your/you're typos, along with others.
There was a lot more spice in this entry compared to others, even if it is about the same sort of vanilla.
Curious to see where the series is headed.

Sooo good!

This book is so good! It is a little confusing because you're not sure what is going on with Zeph. Stick with it, all will be explained in the end. I liked Janet, but every once in a while I wanted to smack her! LOL. I would suggest reading these books in order just for maximum benefit. There are just a few typos.

Naomi's characters are brilliant. Her writing style is raw, vivid, and easy to imagine. The idea of combining cyborgs with animals and animal instincts is different and tough to pull off, but Naomi does a spectacular job. Even though this book is stand alone, the previous book should be read in order to make better sense of this one.

Duality

Wow! Naomi’s books always draw me deep into the world she has imagined. Her characters are flawed and the action is often raw, gritty and engrossing. Zeph intrigued in the last book and I knew there was something more to Janet, but Wow! This book was so good. I stopped reading several times because I didn’t want it to end.

Messy

While the messy, chaotic writing fits the title and the hero's issues, it was difficult to read. The heroine was hard to like. Not a story I will read again.
