The man she's falling for or her father? An impossible decision...but one that Ally has to make.
A dream job in a dream location. That's the life Ally Larsen is about to step into. Until one phone call changes it all. Her father has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and all of his care and medical bills have fallen to her mom. Knowing she can't abandon her family in their time of need, Ally is returning to her island home of Maui, her dashed plans all but forgotten.
Luca Heathcliff knows his reputation isn't stellar. And he's done nothing to improve it by dating no one woman seriously and spending all of his free time on the waves. Getting sick of the fact that his brother is always looking down on him, Luca decides it's time to change part of that - he'll never fall in love again - but he's presented an opportunity to possibly become a professional surfer. Not only would that contract show that Luca can be serious about one thing in his life, it would prove to his brother, once and for all, that Luca is good for something.
But when a picture of Luca looking inept in the surf goes viral his entire dream could be lost. And not only that, his mother has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's and Luca isn't sure what to do. Only after he meets Ally does Luca start to feel some direction again...but can Luca get over past hurts enough to open his heart again? Or will the truth of the picture come back to haunt the budding romance and obliterate it before it can begin?
This book really hit my sweet spot today. I loved the Hawaiian setting, the fact that Luca loved to surf, and how both Luca and Ally shared a common hardship. The attraction was there, the chemistry was there, the friendship was there. I think this one is my favorite of the series so far.
This is just not my type of book! I felt like it was too short and unrealistic or just really immature. It’s hard to believe that a friend especially a lifelong friend would do that! And I didn’t feel like there was any special reason why they fell in love with each other just because someone was sweet and caring. There’s got to be more than that for me.
It’s a great love story. However, I loved the message of forgiving the hurts that only family can cause. More often than not, we just need to wait until we’ve calmed down then listen to each other and forgive. Julia does a great job at helping us to see this.
This is one of those series that you can't help falling in love with everyone! Well, except for the bad guys! I loved the storyline of surfing, though his mom and her dad broke my heart.
This segment of the Heathcliff Family is about a cousin to the previous two heroes but unlike the others he’s not directly involved with the family business. Luca is pursuing a career as a surfer, only showing up at the Heathcliff Resort when he’s needed. But his mother’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s has him re-evaluating his life choices. He attends a support group meeting and is paired with a lovely girl named Ally, who’s dealing with watching her father’s decline. Luca has been hurt by deceit and lies, so Ally’s afraid to reveal to him who she really is and what she’s done. Again, this is a well-told story and I’m eager to read Book 7!
I wasn’t sure I liked Luca very much in the beginning. He certainly was stubborn about a number of things. But that wasn’t what I didn’t like. Ally was definitely the girl of his dreams. Even though he fought that at first. Anyone would have to like Ally. She’s unselfish and caring. And not nearly as stubborn as Luca, but very persistent. The proposal is a great fun part of this story!
Young Romance is thrilling throughout this book. The scenery and charachters make you feel as if this is either your family or the family next door. The development of the parents with their specialties contributing throughout makes me want to follow this author more and more. A side note # I cannot stand Angie!
Sometimes you have to go through hard times to give you empathy for others. This story brings two people together because their parents are dealing with sickness. On the lovely Island of Maui find peace and joy. Amazing characters and story line. Everyone deserves to have their voice heard. I highly recommend this book. Happy Reading!
I love this series. Every book is so good. Luca and Ally meet during a support group meeting. They have a connection, but Ally is keeping a big secret from Luca. Will she tell him or try to keep it hidden?
This quick read set in Hawaii is about life unexpected. It has Alzheimer's as a background theme that is slightly informative and several different angsty themes going on. It was a great quick summer read.
She's going home after finishing college but she's not prepared for all the changes that are coming. This is a really sweet romance but also addressed the reality of dealing with older parents.
