Kat Makris is back in Winter Crime, and she’s sporting a new hairdo courtesy of her most recent fire. It’s a frigid January, and Kat and her appalling ‘do are stuck at the promenade, performing family duties for the Epiphany festivities. When Father Harry tosses the cross into the water, the divers pull out a bonus dead guy—a dead guy who used to be tight with Kat’s family—and Family. Although the curiosity is killing her (all Greek DNA comes with a bonus cat hair), Kat has bigger problems. This raging head cold for one. Sexy police detective Nikos Melas won’t come near her because he’s terrified of his mother’s cold remedies, and the dangerously delicious Xander is missing—again. And then there’s the stolen cassette that doesn’t want to be found. Grandma hid it around here somewhere, she just knows it … Things go haywire when Kat winds up as the recipient of an unusual bequest—a bequest that ruffles a serious amount of feathers. When her lineage is called into question and someone starts shooting at her, Kat wonders if she’d be better off spending winter in the dungeon, hibernating with her bear.
I would love to read 100 more books about Kat right now, I am so addicted to this series. I scream at the end of every book because I have to wait until the next book is out. This series is one of the BEST I have ever read ! Alex king is a great author.
I love the Kat Makris series. The only problem is waiting too long for the next one. Lots of intrigue and laughs. Read it in one sitting. All the characters are wonderful.
Always an enjoyable, comical easy read. Love these characters and the way they interact with each other! Always look forward to the next Kat adventure.
I don’t know what it is about this series that has me so tickled pink, but like its predecessors, I couldn’t wait to read this novel and I’m once again left dying to know what happens next. I whipped through this novel in just a few short hours, refusing to put it down for anything less than bathroom breaks. I was fully dedicated.
Katerina continues to charm and amuse with her sharp and quirky wit, especially as she simultaneously seems to get herself immersed into mysteries and problems. Nothing is ever boring when she’s around and I’m thoroughly entertained as I ride shotgun on her adventures.
Similarly, the secondary characters continue to play a big role in Katerina’s adventures and I feel like the amount of secondary characters coming and going throughout Katerina’s story helps immensely to put this town in Greece (and the seeming vastness of Kat’s own family) into perspective in the world King has created.
Alex King knows how to write fun and engaging stories. By book 10 in the series, I’m both surprised and delighted that I haven’t grown bored with the characters or the plotlines, which I think speaks pretty highly for our author. This book left me anxious to get my hands on the next book in the series and sad that I might have to wait a whole year (or so) before that happens. I’m not good at waiting….
As always, this book is a continuation of my ‘guilty pleasure’ fix. There were some brilliant plot twists and turns. I would not have imagined that .
At the same time, however, there were also parts within the plot that I had me wincing a bit, such as most of the parts with Hera
My other complaint about this series is in regards to the romance department. Although Katerina might be closer to making a decision between Xander and Nikos (or so it appeared) it’s killing me that no real steps were taken in the romance direction at all. None. There’s ZERO romance in this series , so you can just forget it if that’s what you were hoping for. And, my goodness, with some of the tension-filled scenes, I’m craving some romance. Why wasn’t she kissed in this book? Get it together, boy. You know who I’m talking to.
The spelling and grammatical errors (something I have complained about in every single review) seemed to catch my eye less frequently than usual. I don’t know if it’s just because I had been anticipating the release of this book for so long, I couldn’t see as many issues as I enjoyed finally getting my fix or if additional editing went into this novel. There were still some unusually-phrased sentences and a few grammatical errors but overall, either I was blinded by my love for this series and didn’t notice as many issues OR improvements have been made. If it’s the improvements option, then I’m thrilled that King has listened to her readers and I truly appreciate the improvements. It wasn’t perfect, but it was so much better. If, on the other hand, I’ve gone blind, well then, let me stay ignorant and happy.
I do admit that I have loved this series, and believe there is another on the way.
Kat is back in Greece with her family/Family, and things are fine, until family members start getting attacked. There are some new answers to the family tree included. I won't tell the story, because the blurb and other reviewers do that. There is still the fun adventures and dialogue, but the culprit in this book is fairly obvious earlier in this book.
Still a good read, as is the rest of the series. Recommended.
I always have fun with this series depicting the adventures of Greek-American Kat Makris who has moved to Greece and become a part of her Greek mafia family, living at their compound while trying to stay out of the criminal activity. This one continues the tension between her two possible love interests as she continues trying to find her place in this world. A quick and quirky read.
I'm so glad this finally released! Good timing, too. I've been bored, and this was as exciting as it was hilarious. Very dramatic, too. We finally know who the Homeless Man of Makria is!!! I wonder who Grandma, Winkler, and Babushka's "worst sister" is. Interesting. Also, the geese are freaking fabulous, and I'm officially (if I wasn't already) Team Xander. Love that guy. :) Anyway, great installment in the series! 4.5 stars. I can't wait for the next one! I hope Kat finds a good hairdresser soon, lol.
If you are looking for distraction, the Kat Makris series is a good one. Kat is back in Greece and has a nasty cold. And possibly a new uncle. Misadventures abound as Kat tries to figure out who killed Tassos Pythagoras. And who is shooting at Aunt Rita and stabbing Dad? It's a fun read as is the whole series. Seriously, check it out if you love a humorous mystery.
Kat is back in Greece and dying of the dreaded lurgy, while trying to solve the latest caper. As always, this book is unputdownable. I read this from beginning to end in a few hours. The hijinks of the Family is, as always, extremely entertaining. Well paced story, like able characters, it’s a very well crafted book. I look forward to the next one.
Book nr 10 and it did not disappoint. It had mystery, laughter, little romance and lots of baked goods. Looking forward to the next book and what other adventures Katerina Makri (s) gets in to. :)
I always laugh when I read any of the Kat Makris-with-an-s books. The characters are so unique, and I love the cultural quirks that Kat has to deal with as she constantly tries to dodge the fallout from having her grandmother being the head of the Family.
This mystery isn’t that dissimilar from previous storylines, but this time Kat is suffering from a major case of the flu (spookily apt given the current pandemic), and she has the hairdo from hell. Personally, I think she should have just gone for a buzzcut, but that wouldn’t have been as funny. She also discovers she’s the goose whisperer to a goose army (which I hope is around in future instalments), plus Donk and Marika are back in the sidekick saddle, so there’s that.
Such a fun, laugh out loud, series that I would recommend to anyone who wants a lighthearted, fast paced and entertaining read.
𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑪𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆, Book #10 in the Kat Makris Greek Mafia series, by Alex A. King
I truly do love this series, although in past books, King has shown a disdain for adequate proofing, so the fact that I found only two proofing errors in this novel put a big smile on my face. Otherwise, King's writing is top notch: great plotting and pacing, hilarious dialogue and situations, lots of action, plenty of snark, and a heroine who can't seem to get a break, nor can she make up her mind about the two men in her life. The books read very fast, and this one made me literally LOL.
Want to great summer read? Give this series a try.
OK for you Stephanie Plum fans: Kat is Stephanie, Marisa is Lola, Milas is Joe Morelli, Xander is Ranger, and wacky grandma is wacky grandma. Despite the rip off, these are funny books and Evanovich seems to be writing other things and the love triangle is hardly a ground-breaking theme …
This book was one of my favorites. I like the geese among other parts.
This is another fine entry. I will say, I was disappointed when it took Kat 16.5 and 17 chapters to realize things I had figured out starting in chapter 7. I cut her some slack, since she initially had a cold and the rest of her family's drama to wade through when trying to think. "I’d forgotten about it until now. That tends to happen when the weird stuff piles up."
