What do you do when the thing you’ve designed to keep you safe is the thing that turns against you? “Renovation” is an action-packed story of a monster like you’ve never imagined.
Jack just wants to spend the day job-hunting online and taking care of his young son Max, who’s napping up in his room. Everything is going as well as can be expected when a noise in the house catches Jack’s attention.
He keeps hearing strange sounds, but they’re not coming from any particular room; they seem to be emanating from the house itself. And then he hears something that sounds an awful lot like his name.
“Renovation” is a 4000-word story about how easily life can be turned upside down in a blink, without warning, and from that moment on things can never go back to how they were.
This book also contains a bonus story, "Reckoning". If you’re a fan of “Channel Zero” or “Creepshow,” “Renovation” is the chapbook for you.
C. Dennis Moore is the author of the Angel Hill novels, the Monsters of Green Lake series, as well as the Holiday Horrors. He lives in St. Joseph, MO with his wife, Kara. They have seven children and three grandchildren. His website is www.cdennismoore.com
4 Stars - Pretty Fabulous Book. No, I would not set up a trust fund to ensure this book's care for the next hundred years but all things considered, I enjoyed it. I'm emotionally invested and marginally devastated if the rest of the series doesn't pan out.
First, let me start by saying that I absolutely adored The Third Floor by C. Dennis Moore. That was the first book that I had read by this author. Having said that, I liked Renovation, but just not as well as I liked The Third Floor. There was a lot of wusssssshhhhhh in this story (yes, that's how it is on the Kindle, to make the sound of the house breathing.) For me that took a lot away from the story. I love the author, not his best story in my opinion.
Renovation: a standalone short, my eighty-second read from author C. Dennis Moore. A 55-page short read with that that distinctive Moore flavor, also contains the short read Reckoning”. I always look forward to the next work from him. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Next up The League of Liars: a standalone short. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
C Dennis Moore's short stories are always great for those times where your are shot on time, but really want to read something entertaining. Renovations and its companion short story Birth Day are both entertaining horror stories. For C Dennis Moore fans these are right in line with the Angel Hill stories. I received Renovation in an author giveaway and chose to provide this review.
