Love & Luck #2

Virtually Screwed

Rate this book
Blake

At 43 I’m supposed to have everything figured out, and if you’d asked me six months ago I’d have said I did: head of my own tech company, beautiful fiancée, amazing future all planned out...life was perfect. Or, at least, I thought it was…

So now I’m in New York after selling my company and fleeing San Jose, and for the first time in as long as I can remember I have nothing to fill my day—no meetings, no reports, no tests, no launch parties—and that’s how I manage to get hooked on Warpath 4 and somehow find myself sexting with a guy almost twenty years younger than me.

Say what?

Okay, here’s the thing: it didn’t start out dirty. It was all completely tame. Mild. Conversational. But then conversation turned to flirting, and flirting turned to dirty talk. And, well…let’s just say things escalated from there…

But it’s just a bit of fun. Right? It’s not like anything would ever work in real life. I’m too old, he’s still closeted. And let’s not get started on how I’m supposedly straight. It’s just way too messy. Definitely best if we never actually meet each other...

But what if we already have?

Turns out my virtual f*ck buddy is actually Owen Kelly, my best friend’s kid brother. Which leaves me pretty much screwed…

Warning: This book is not appropriate for anyone who doesn’t like laughing, anyone who doesn’t like the word ‘daddy’, or anyone who doesn’t like when hot older guys and gorgeous younger guys have a hella lot of super-steamy sex.

Reread June 2023

I read the first book in this series about a year ago and finally got around to read this.
And I really liked it. It's easy, funny, low angst feel good read. Exactly what I needed. In fact this was a five star read until Owens "I can't do this so I'm leaving you for your own good and running away" thing.

You should read these books in order the get the full experience but they work as standalone reads.

4.5 Stars!

New to me author. I really, really enjoyed this one.

I enjoyed the electronic communications via the video game and app.

Age gap. Plenty of steam. Some good banter.

At one point Owen plays the martyr which was admittedly annoying, but it played out okay.

Lots of secondary characters for potential books.

I am strongly considering going back and reading book 1 after meeting Declan and Heath in this one - despite the big misunderstanding thrown in.

Definitely recommend.

3.5 Hot-slightly kinky-sweet Stars!! 💕😉. So this was steamy!!🔥🔥 and a little weirdly kinky; but overall still a low-angst, funny and sweet May-September romance 💘😍. I wasn't a fan of the miscommunication towards the end.., but it did not drag and the story ended with a satisfying HEA.. 💝 Highly recommended to M/M romance readers looking for a fun, low-angst steamy read. 👍👍

Fun Fun.
Not much to say really, these stories are pretty standard low angst/feel good/steamy reads.
They remind me of Lucy Lennox's Made Marian & Forever Wilde series. And since I've been debating re-reading those, this was a wonderful find.

Also hmm king size bed on a roof top courtyard with rose petals, candles and a picnic.
Dare I say more?

Love the OTT romance on Virtually Screwed . The 'angst' is pretty minute and quickly resolved.

Definitely recommend this, it's quite addictive.

Well, I wanted to like it more than I did. The premise of Virtually Screwed is essentially that Blake and Owen meet on an online game and play against each other before it escalates into something more, flirting, dirty talk, etc.

The unfortunate part here is that is had so much potential but it was over so quickly before they realized they knew each other in person and real life and made the connection. It just felt like it had so much potential to be developed and then wasn't. There wasn't any build up, there wasn't any tension. Just all of a sudden, without a lot of preamble they are getting off for the first time together over audio in this game.
Then it feels like an extremely short time later that it completely stops and moves to in person because they realize who the other is.

My final qualm is that yes, third act breakups or conflict can certainly work, but only its done right and makes sense. There was absolutely no build up to this, kind of out of left field, kind of out of character and just didn't work for me.

This book is going to get three stars from me though because while certain parts of the s*x were a little cringe, it was overall good and Owen and Blake had a fun chemistry. Isla Olsen is a fun author but this one just was more of a miss for me.

The main thing that drew me to Virtually Screwed was the love interests meeting in an online game and it turning out that they actually know each other irl. This sounded like the perfect set up for a romance I'd love, but sadly the execution let it down.

The online aspect was too short-lived and not done well in my opinion. There was no build up or tension. It just went straight to 100 and then they find out they already know each other a few pages later. It felt pointless and a missed opportunity.

Blake and Owen had some nice chemistry and were a fun couple to read. The smut was a bit cringe but easy enough to look past.

We know it's a romance and they're going to end up together, but if you're going to have a third act conflict and break up, please at least make it interesting.

Audiobook 4
Story 3.5

Owen’s drama was so unnecessary lol. He was the one who seduced Blake but he decided to break it off when he was scared of people’s judgement. I understand him but it also frustrates me.

Book one was an okay read for so I wasn’t too sure if I wanted to read this but based off the synopsis this sounded right up my alley. I mean, age-gap, friends to lovers, online meetings AND best friend’s brother. Yes, thank you.

I did enjoy this. Blake and Owen’s relationship was scorching hot. I really like how the author set up the build up of their relationship and I genuinely liked them together but more towards the end. To me their first face to face meeting just didn’t give me the finally feeling -- it was a bit of a let down. And, then I wasn’t always fully invested in them..it took a bit for me to feel things.

But, don’t get me wrong -- I liked this. Online meetings are entertaining reads to me as well as having to hide your relationship -- it’s thrilling.

If you were a fan of book one I think you’d enjoy this or if you’re a fan of age gap relationships with a few other tropes mixed it -- give it a read. Especially if you’re in the need for a nice happy ending!

I’m a little conflicted about this book. I really really enjoyed book one and was super excited about this one and don’t get me wrong, I had a very good time reading it.

While the first book was super cute, this was HOT. But there’s something off for me and I’m not even sure what it was. I have to admit (I was kind of shocked at the realization) the whole daddy - sweetheart thing felt weird to me. And I do love a good age gap romance.

I had a good time, like book one this was mostly angst free, cute and sexy as hell.

3 and 1/2 stars. I enjoyed this book a great deal. It was very sweet and had little angst. I debated giving the book 4 stars because I liked the main characters so much.

However, the plot was very predictable and Owen’s sudden change right at the end was kind of annoying. Everything was quickly solved and the story of course proceeds to a very satisfying HEA. This is a new author for me, but I plan to check out other books in the series.

I always enjoy the online sexting with strangers troupe. But Owen and Blake found out about each other identify quite early, about 30% in. And during their first surprised meeting which is during a Kelly's family gathering, they just went into Owen's bedroom to have penetrative sex. I feel is too rush, IMO. Shouldn't they freaked out and act awkward a little longer? Blake is Owen's brother's best friend whom he knows all his life, after all. They just get to the sex part easily and it was non stop sex after that. Owen practically move in except for the part which he doesn't want to let his family know. Ok, this get a bit boring for me, honestly. And then the Blake got a surprised adult son out of the blue? Eh, I love my M/M without surprised baby.

I liked it but I don't know I feel like there were some things missing and a few things that happened that didn't need to honestly. Totally took away from the enjoyment of the story.

I was excited for an MC with social anxiety but if it hadn't been stated repeatedly, I don't think I would have noticed it. It feels less like an organic character trait and more like a plot contrivance to create conflict. And instead of getting to see Owen deal with his anxiety in an organic and compelling way, he arbitrarily decides to get over it (after seeing a therapist off-page) and makes up with Blake.

It's still a decent (although ultimately forgettable) read if you're after low-angst fluff, but I was hoping for something more compelling than that.

There was no flow in the story everything going so flat and then suddenly something major happened and then it goes back to that flat/ebb pacing.

The third act was the worse
It's frustrating like that feeling when a piece of food got stuck behind your teeth, you can feel it with your tongue but once your reach it with toothpick you can't find it but it's still there.

The blurb sounded right up my alley but unfortunately this wasn't for me. I didn't really connect with any of the characters (the main ones or the 100 siblings), I didn't like the writing style and most text messages made me cringe.

I really loved the first book and had high hopes for this one, but ended up slightly disappointed. Zhe chemistry between Blake and Owen was there but I would have appreciated a bit more relationship development. There was a lot of sex, which normally is ok for me but here it seemed a bit much.
And I was a bit annoyed with Owen. In hindsight not fair because of his anxiety but nearly 3/4 of the book this is nit really talked about and then suddenly "bam"
All in all a nice read .... now I want Shay's story

Not too old

I love this series and the Kellys. They are a riot with their group chats. Blake is super sexy and Owen surprised me in the best way. These two are hot, hot, hot but I what I adored the most with them is how they click when they’re together. Although Owen frustrated me a little, I also felt for him. He’s so lovable and I’m glad he has his roomie in his life. With Blake, I pretty much wanted to steal him away forever and the only thing he is, is amazing, just like this book. It had me laughing out loud from the first page and sighing with happiness mixed in with some burning curiosity by the end. Can’t wait to see whose story is next.

After finishing the first book of this series I immediately jump to the second one and the others are going to have a very big challenge trying to overcome this one, I liked everything about this book, the dynamics between Owen Kelly and Blake was so intense, beautiful and spicy, I loved it , Blake stole my heart completely, his way of understanding and fighting for owen was admirable. Special mention to the kelly'sfamily that each book that passes I like more & more.

in this book we are presented with possibly the best character I have ever read (Sunny, Blake's mother) My God how much I love her! this woman is incredible hahaha.

Isla Olsen has another winner with me in the Love & Luck series! There is humor and steam galore throughout which just pushes all my buttons. The Kelly family whatsapp chat is back in full force and really just makes me laugh every time a new thread starts.

In Book 2 we have the youngest brother Owen who unknowingly starts a dirty chat relationship with the oldest brother Shays billionaire bestie Blake. If you thought book 1 portrayed Owen as this shy and reserved little bro then you would be in good company with me. However, Owen is ANYTHING by shy and reserved when it comes to getting what he wants in bed. Daddy Kink anyone?

Blake is no shy blushing virgin either. As a man in his 40s who recently sold off his company for big bucks he finds himself with plenty of time on his hands. And what he wants to do with his hands is put them on Owen. He spends virtually no time second guessing his feels for Owen or the fact that he's his best friends baby brother. It most definitely passes his mind, but it does nothing to temper his feelings. I liked that Blake knew what he wanted and didn't make a big drama around everything. He was patient and honest with Owen who sometimes can get lost in his own mind due to his social anxiety.

I'd rate this one about 4.25 stars for anyone keeping score. I also hope a certain Bestie gets his story next. I'm also hoping its with a certain red headed twink we met in this one! * wink wink * just you wait.

I am not really sure about the great ratings of this story, for me this was an okay read, but really nothing special.
Yes it includes an age gap, which I usually like, but that was immediately spoiled when the 43 year old guy is called daddy, definitely a no go for me.
Then there is sex, lots and lots and lots of it, yes I think there can be too much of it in a story, it got repetitive and boring.
Owen (the younger guy) has a family that is so huge, I still can't figure it out, probably the author wants to have guys available for the next ten installments, again it was just too much, I didn't like it.
Blake (the daddy) is a Billionaire and what I actually liked was the way they met via online gaming, before realizing weeks later that they knew each other through Blake's best friend, Owen's brother...
All in all, this was a mildly entertaining read for me, an okay story, but really nothing I would recommend a friend.
Obviously other readers had much more luck, really loving this, so please don't take my word, check it out yourself.
I always feel like you should not completely rely on other people's experiences, what was meh for me could well be wow for you!
Give it a try and let me know how it turned out.
I 'll give it 3 stars.

I forgot how much I loved this series. Blake and Owen had me in smiles most of this book. This is a hilarious book with low angst.

Blake and Owen are really so good together. Blake seems to have no issues going after what he wants and he could really care less what others think. Owen on the other hand is constantly in his head. He's always worried about what others think. There is a big age gap between these two, 19 years. But for the most part, you forget about that.

This book was wonderful until Owen got in his head. I seriously wanted to through my iPad across the room, because it's one of the things I hate most in books. Leave because they cheated on you...leave because they lied to you...but because you just know it's for the best??? Please. This was a five-star read for me until I got to that part. Don't get me wrong, it has a great ending and Owen pulls his head out of his butt, but this was unnecessary drama.

I just love the Kelly family. Their messages always have me rolling. They are so open and loving. I'm excited to read Shay's story.
