Laurent Durieux is a famous Belgian illustrator who is well known by pop culture fans and collectors for his cult movie poster reinterpretations. Every one of his American exhibitions was sold out on opening night and attended by thousands of enthusiastic fans. This book will be his first monograph and will cover his entire career, with particular focus on his most iconic alternative movie posters (including J aws, The Birds, Vertigo, and The Master ).
The book includes a 6-page section of rejected and unpublished poster art and a foreword by filmmaker and Durieux collector Francis Ford Coppola.
Okay the last one for now although considering how quiet today is I expect there will be a load more being added soon haha.
So on to Mirages - and I have to say that this is a book I have been eyeing up for a while but never quite seemed to get round to buying - until now and boy am I kicking myself for not getting it sooner.
IT is AMAZING!
enough said - what you have here is a totally unique style (although Laurent does recognise the various influences and historical references from which his approach to art have developed from) of some of the most famous and instantly recognisable films of recent year. HOWEVER as the book explains he tried to approach the subject matter from different perspectives and for me it makes them all the more amazing - not only the style but also the content.
All I can say is this book is so worth looking out for - even the book itself is sumptuous - with thick heavy pages this is a book of quality and I am so pleased I decided to add it to my collection.
Beautiful coffee table book that is a pleasure to browse through each time you pick it up. Excellent production values for the design and the printing. An interesting addition are pages of some of the posters printed in their actual print size to illuminate their detail.
