Pack Rule #1: Never reveal to a human.

I broke that rule the day I met the beautiful doctor.
I might be a rodeo champ, but she made me lose my concentration on the back of a bull.
Now the sweet female is on to me since being gored means injury.
When I heal within hours, she knows something’s not right.
My alpha told me to watch her.
Not a problem. I’ll watch her all right. Real close.
I’ll stick to her like superglue. And those human men who want to date her? They’d better step back.
Because the doctor is all mine.
Whether she knows it yet or not.

4 “BOYD” stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s been a very very long while since I last read a paranormal romance. I can’t even remember the name of the last one I read but I do remember the first one which was twilight and I got intrigued but the one which made me fall in love with the trope was the black dagger brotherhood series which till date is still my favourite. Some years later, I don’t know why but I kinda lost touch, unable to find the good ones or maybe it was me.

Now enough down the memory lane, the good news is am finally looking up to reading them again and since I have seen this one enough times on my feed and also because I love this author’s writing style, I knew I made the right choice. It was exactly what I needed something light, sexy, funny, smutty and romantic. It was so easy to get lost in this world.

But she wasn’t a shifter. She was human. She didn’t know we even existed let alone want to mate with a wolf.
I was totally fucked. The way she was looking up at me, expectant and filled with a degree of annoyance, was hot as hell. Everything she did turned me on. I couldn’t miss the way her tits rose and fell as she breathed. The pulse point in her neck throbbed with her life blood at the spot I wanted to sink my teeth into as I fucked her hard. Made her mine.
Fuck!

We meet Boyd wolf who is a bull riding champion and a sexy cowboy to the core and most importantly a wolf. The moment he sees Audrey who is the on-call doctor at the game and catches her scent, he knows that she’s his mate. The attraction is mutual even if Audrey does a good job of playing it cool. The problem lies in the fact that’s she’s a human and it’s forbidden to let them know their secret.

But Audrey—sweet Audrey—made me want to stop running. To stand still. To stand beside her. To be the one she turned to, to lean on, to love. I wanted to be her man. Her mate.

Things turns more twisty when boyd gets into an accident while in the competition and Audrey sees just how badly he’s hurt but is completely flabbergasted when he recovers way too fast and always distracts her whenever she tries to check up on his injury. He’s always felt like a black sheep in the family and this problem will only prove that to his pack where his brother is the alpha.

Boyd knows that he has to make her his no matter what and fate helps him when his brother asks her to be her friend in order to keep her mouth shut in case she asks questions. The chemistry is off the charts hot between them. They gravitate towards each other whenever in the same room.

I was fooling myself if it was only my need for answers that had me idling in front of his ranch. I was interested in knowing more about Boyd than as a doctor. I wanted to know why his abs were like a washboard. Why his skin was hot and smooth. If the chest hair I’d felt disappeared beneath the waistband of his jeans.
If his cocky attitude meant he was cocky in bed. If he’d be bossy and stern…
Yeah, I was totally screwed.

Audrey moves to cooper valley for a fresh start and is also looking for someone who wants to start a family with whole white picket fence which is why she’s conflicted since Boyd is exactly the opposite of what she’s looking for. Boyd isn’t the one to back down though. Lately he’s been feeling like something’s missing from his life and he wants to put down roots so when Audrey shows up, it’s like his wishes come true.

”Do you love me?”
She licked her lips. “Yes.”
“Say it,” I all but growled. My wolf wanted to hear the words from her lips.
“Boyd Wolf, I love you.”
I’d never felt better in my life than right now. My mate loved me. She was in our bed, her pussy bare and ready to be claimed.
“Audrey Ames, I didn’t say it in the letters. I wanted to look you in the eye, just as I am now, so you could hear the truth. See it on my face. I love you.”
Tears slipped from her eyes, and she smiled.
Fuck yes.

I loved the two of them together. Boyd was deliciously alpha, he could be funny one second and possessive the next. His issues felt genuine too and it was sweet to watch how Audrey made him believe in himself and saw beneath his carefree and charming personality. The suspense thrown in was engaging too. Also, Audrey handled the situation very well when she learns the truth about Boyd because if it was me, I would have fainted or gone into shock.

”Are you a good girl, Audrey?”
She opened her eyes, blinked up at me slowly as if she was trying to clear her head. “Always.”
Yeah, I believed that.
“I think there’s a bad girl in you. I think when you get going, you’re very naughty.”
“I—”
“You’re in the barn with me, my finger inside you.” With that, I slid that one digit in slowly, but nice and deep. She moaned, gripped my arms, clenched down hard.
“Good girls don’t get fingerfucked up against a wall,” I said against her ear. My wolf could hear the way her heartbeat accelerated, and I couldn’t miss the way her pussy gushed all over my hand. Yeah, Audrey liked to get dirty.
“Good girls don’t get their pussies licked.”

The whole vibe and pace of the book was set beautifully. The whole ranch, the mountains, the southern life style was described genuinely and sucked me right into their story. The series is definitely to a great start. It was sinfully erotic and I expected nothing else from this duo. I love me some dirty talk and filthy sex. This had that in spades.

If you’re looking for a sweet, wholesome paranormal romance with little suspense and so much heat, then look no further. You’ll end up wanting more of these wolf boys. ♥️

I saw the cover reveal for Feral and it caught my attention. So while I was trying to figure out what to read next it popped into my head for some reason. So I jumped on GoodReads and checked out the series and liking the sound of Rough I went over and one clicked it.

Boyd was the overly confident, charming man whore of the rodeo circuit who accidentally comes across Audrey, who's filling in for the doctor for the evening. Now the thing I love about these shifter books is the insta love and the absolute certainty in the relationship.

This book had all of that, along with a growling hero who knew exactly what he wanted. And even though this was insta love there was a good a story and both characters had enough depth to make me emotionally invested in their story and relationship.

Now I am off to read Wild.

So this was just okay. I mean, it wasn’t terrible but it did fall flat for me. The romance was fine and the plot was okay. Basically, everything was just O K A Y. I'm still on the fence about if I want to continue on to the next book. Maybe I should? Maybe the next book in the series will be better.

Rough by Renee Rose & Vanessa Vale is the First book in the Wolf Ranch Series. This is the story of Audrey Ames and Boyd Wolf. Audrey has moved to the small town of Montana to work with her medical degree which leads her to help out on the Rodeo circuit. This is where she meets Boyd who she is immoderately attracted to but has learned her lesson on getting involved with his playboy type who seems to be hiding something. Boyd is the youngest in his family and feels every bit of it along with the guilt of his parents death. Since he doesn't really feel wanted or needed on the ranch, Boyd has taken to the Rodeo Circuit where he is very popular...especially with the ladies. But Boyd is also a wolf shifter who knows when he meets his mate and that is the human Dr. Audrey. Of course he can't reveal what / who he really and when he is injured and Audrey has questions about his injury that he can't really answer...his pack has him keep an eye on her. Enjoyed this book!!

My mother used to say plan for the outcome you wanted to achieve--even if it seemed unlikely to happen at the time.

A sweet-talkin' championship bull rider is thrown off his game by a doctor looking to settle down.. 4.5 stars!!

I never knew I had a thing for a dirty-talking, cocky as hell cowboy shifter, but then again I've never met anyone quite like Boyd Wolf before. Out of the three Wolf brothers, Boyd is the youngest and sees himself as the fuck-up of the family. He blames himself for the death of his parents at the age of twelve and has since lived his life on the move as a championship bull rider, chasing a peace and happiness he has never truly known. He's charmed his way through life--and into the beds of countless buckle bunnies--content and a bit restless with his transient lifestyle. Until he meets her. His mate.
But Audrey--sweet Audrey--made me want to stop running. To stand still. To stand beside her. To be the one she turned to, to lean on, to love. I wanted to be her man. Her mate. The guy who had the honor of...fucking her hard.

Audrey Ames is a doctor who transferred to a small town in Montana in the hopes of finding a respectable husband and starting a family. Despite the fact that Boyd is everything hot and sexy and not what she's looking for, she can't help but fall under his spell. Their chemistry was off the charts while their interactions were kinky and so sexy. Even though there was some mild mean girls/OW drama, Audrey eventually used her common sense to figure it out and put Boyd out of his misery. Overall, this was a smut-tastic, steamy shifter read with yummy cowboys and just enough pack angst to keep you invested. I'm stoked I received an ARC of book two as we get to meet the mysterious second brother, Colton!

His wolf said mate … but she’s human.
It was his job to get on the back of a bull, but it was her job to save him when he fell

While I might not write shifter stories, it doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy reading them.
Rough is a fast-paced insta-love shifter romance and had me glued to the page. Household? Dinner? Deadlines? Don’t count on me, I’m at Wolf Ranch!

For this book, Renee Rose – queen of collaborative fiction – teams up with Vanessa Vale. And what a team these ladies make! I felt the instant attraction and loved both Boyd and Audrey. The chemistry between the main characters is sizzling hot, but what I especially loved is the depth the characters have.

Buckle up and hang on tight – you’re in for a wild ride!

Do me a favour and read the first chapter, which is in the point of view of the "hero", in an obnoxious, full of himself, voice and you will thank me to not continue with this so called book.

Look, he might redeem himself later on, but I'm not wasting my time to find out.

In my head, I see this story going like this:
After chapter one she shuts him down (of course multiple times because he doesn't know what no means), and ends up with a guy that doesn't sound like this one.
Happily ever after.

-Small town
-Cowboy x doctora

⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5)

Audrey and Boyd's story... soooo... there was a lot of room for improvement but it was overall an enjoyable story to read. There was repetitiveness, a lot of steam and a decent plot about fated-mates. The title was a little irrelevant, at least for me. I'm tempted to read the next one in the series.

"It seemed I was a glutton for punishment. And orgasms."

I am at a crossroads with this one. I read a shifter romance. Well, a COWBOY. SHIFTER. romance. And, well....

I
Couldn't
Put it
Down!!!!

Crazy, coming from me - I can assure you, I can't believe it either. I haven't read one of these in a very long while, my first being Katy Regnery's It's You duet - and I loved that one, It's been four years, so I feel like I was ready to try this trope again - because, at that time, I wasn't sure anything could top my "first time" experience. This obviously tips into the PNR side of things and it's an area of reading I'd love to dive deeper into, so this was an easy purchase and read.

How did I ever find this, you ask? Well, I have seen Vanessa Vale's name around quite a bit with the blogger sign-ups I get, but I have never read her. Most of the time, I catch her mid-series and I don't really jump into those. But Renee Rose was a completely new to me author in every sense of the word. I don't think I recall ever hearing her name. ANYWAY, I got an email and their book was listed in the sales section from another author I get a newsletter from....so, needless to say - $.99? Sure! Why not! I'll just grab this, see what it's like and see if I want to finish the series out.

And there you have it. I found another series to tag along behind and read when I have a few moments to throw a quickie in. I seriously read this one in ONE sitting and I never do that. Ever. I'm still laughing at myself.

But, to be open and fair and honest with my review, as much as I enjoyed this one - the writing was.....young. Immature? Rough around the edges? I don't know if I can explain it accurately, because it was easy to follow, but it was almost basic. I'm sorry!! I'm sorry. I know that sounds rude, but I can assure you I am not trying to be rude. Again, look at the above bold sentences. I honestly couldn't put this down.

Down and dirty? Check.
Raunchy? Ummm.....maybe?
Hot? I mean, it could fall in that category.
Intriguing? Most definitely.
Will I read more? Yep!

With this being my first read by these authors, and my second shifter romance EVER, not only did I have some new voices to check out, but I also had a still very wet-behind-the-ears genre for me. So the discovery and exploration has me paying close attention since it's all new. I seriously enjoyed it. I am laughing at myself because I can't believe that I'm typing those words out. It's not that I never wanted to read it, I just didn't think I could wrap my head around the idea of a shifter romance, especially from new to me authors. But I did, and get this: I can't wait to read more. Not only do I want to find out about the other brothers in this series, but I want to read more of this trope. (Even from other authors) I want to see what can be done with this trope because it does pull at me to discover more. I may just have to ask for some shifter recommendations....

What fascinated me was I found myself flipping the pages and blowing right through it. I didn't stop for much....but I also didn't highlight much for reference or quotes either. Not sure I found much to highlight, to be honest, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

I will say that I feel like I missed out on some good background building - especially if I were new to this genre (which, clearly, I am). It could have been explained and built upon in that aspect a little bit more, but it was most definitely entertaining enough that I read it quickly and easily - so, again, that makes me that much more interested in reading more. I am a slow reader. I have never been shy about that fact - but I seriously couldn't stop reading it!!

MY TRUTH: Will I spend $5 for each subsequent story? No, probably not. It wasn't that mind blowing - but I won't lie and say I won't read more. If they go on sale - I will buy them up and happily (and excitedly) read them. It says a lot to me that I am willing to forego well-written for a great, entertaining story. I will always choose a story that keeps me entertained, and this one did exactly that. Again, not denying that I enjoyed it - because I did, but I just don't think I'm willing to spend that much for each one, unfortunately. I felt like it was missing a few key things that could have made it amazing, so that does give me pause on the price tag. Other than that, very fun read and I will look out for more.

I want more!!!

It's at a time like this. I think if I really need to eat for this series, I want to continue and read all the books, but I have to be careful and spend money wisely.

I couldn't get enough of this book!! Everything was amazing!! The want, the need that both main characters have for each other was amazing!! The mini drama that was happening wasn't blown out and made a big deal that can sometimes happen.

I’ll be honest - I had to squint a bit at times. And roll my eyes, but not in annoyance, more in an indulgent way. It’s a rather traditional shifter romance, the characters aren’t very complex, there’s insta lust and insta love and my-wolf-said-she‘s-my-mate. Cowboys.

Also, lots of sex.

If you don’t mind all that, and you’re looking for a quick and easy read, then you’ll love this book.

Rough is book 1 of the Wolf Ranch series. It is a wolf shifter, paranormal, cowboy, romance set in Montana. The main characters are Boyd, a wolf shifter and champion bull rider, and Audrey, a human and a doctor. I really enjoyed part of this book. I liked the overall storyline and development of the romance. I didn’t really care for the OTT sex talk because the writing of it all seemed so sophomoric. I like spicy books, but I prefer they be written in a more mature way. I got tired of hearing about her pebbled nips and clenching p^$$y. It was tiresome. I liked that Audrey is a regular woman with a regular non-modelesque body. She was described as a few extra pounds, b-cup, and some leg dimples. It is always good to see a more normal size representation in books. The narration wasn’t excellent but it was good. The narrator's voice for Audrey was wonderful, but her voice for Boyd was super feminine. This book was included in the Audible Plus catalog. I will definitely try book 2 also. Overall, I am giving Rough 3.5 stars but will round up to 4.

Novela corta. Mamarrachada que pienso que me leeré del tirón y acaba resultando que a parte de infumable me ocupa la vida misma conseguir acabar el libro. Os dejo unos highlights:

- I would swear my ovaries dropped two eggs when Boyd entered the med room.

- Why was he looking at me? i wasn't important. I was the short, bespectacled doctor who could lose fifteen pounds and had zero game.

- Ovary just dropped out an egg. (sí, otra vez)

Y para rematar:

- I knew he was big, but that? Wow. It was practically a baby arm that jutted from a thatch of hair a few shades darker than on his head.

I have a hard time resisting a shifter cowboy/rancher, so I had to give this story a try when I saw it pop up in the Kindle store. I've never read Ms. Vale's work, but I am more than familiar with Ms. Rose's work, especially her shifter MC universe.

This book is OK—Good-OK, but still OK. It has all of the elements, but something is missing from it...or maybe they didn't blend together quite right? I'm not sure. So while I enjoyed this, I didn't love it. I wasn't feeling the chemistry between the mains.

And on a personal note, I have a hard time not being pulled out of a story and feeling sour about it when a character is so fixated on her weight, and it turns out she's "15 pounds" above what's so narrowly considered ideal. I get it. Every woman is affected by the misogynistic beauty/weight ideal and feels bad about herself, but as a properly fat woman, it grinds my gears to see someone who can barely be considered chubby wail about how she's hideous and will never be desirable because she doesn't have washboard abs. Like, some of us are literally dying because of fat bias and discrimination in the world—we're seen as something worse than being dead and the Thing to avoid becoming at all cost—so maybe don't make this her major plot point/angst/issue and bring it up every chapter. Fight it instead of reinforcing it.

There were several things that held promise in this story, but overall it was mid-level. I liked it, but there were enough situations that were either stereotypical, or just handled badly. Both H and h were borderline TSTL. Plus the other brothers fell into their tropes as if molded into those shapes. A couple of nice sexy scenes and a decent HEA make it worth reading.

Disappointing book, objectifying women, could not finish it

I struggled through a third of the book but the way Rough talked about woman and what he wanted just turned my stomach. there was no respect. I have read hundreds of shifter books and loved them but this was the worst.

Boring and kinda crass. Trying to dress up a smut book to have an actual story to it but there's way too much emphasis on sex right off the bat to be anything other then not very interesting smut.

Didn’t finish

Found the hero unappealing. Too aggressive and too focused only in sex. Book might get better - this one just wasn’t for me

3.5 “Never pass on saving a horse 😉” Stars

When I read the words wolf-shifter and cowboy there was no way I was not jumping in headfirst into Rough. It definitely delivered on the whole rough, hunky cowboy with a side of wild wolf premise.

Boyd was all cocky swagger and sexiness, with a dirty mouth and a massive… instalove for his little Doctor. It only took one look to realize he had found his mate, but now he needs to make sure she doesn’t suspect his true nature… and well, let’s just say he knows many ways to keep her distracted. He was fun, charming and hot AF and he definitely had a lot of tricks under that cowboy hat of his. He had some issues to work through for sure, but my only real problem with him was his inability to open up about anything.

Audrey is ready for settling down and starting a family of her own. So even if the charming cowboy that shouldn’t be able to be walking around let alone working the ranch, makes her body sing, a fling is not what she is after. Soon she realizes Boyd is not just after a night of fun, but forever, and she’ll have to decide if she’s willing to take him inner wolf and all.

I had a harder time connecting to Audrey. She was a bit insecure and the fact that she kept saying things like “I don’t understand why you want someone like me” got old real fast. She was sweet and a good doctor but I didn’t feel like she had much of a personality, as her insecurity and low self-esteem were the main topics of her inner musings.

I really liked the premise of the story and I enjoyed reading it. There were some things that had my eyebrows at risk of forever being lost in my hair, but this being a PNR I could kind of overlook them. As it was, I felt that some points of the plot weren’t fully developed and it left me feeling a bit dissatisfied.

I still had a good time with Rough and Boyd and Audrey had some really hot times together. I just wish we could have gotten an epilogue to see if all that practice on producing a baby paid off… I guess I’ll just have to wait to see what will befall the two older Wolf brothers and hope to get a glimpse of the first couple.
