Pretty Woman is my absolute favorite rom-com of all time, so you can bet your booty I’m always going to read a retelling/inspired by story.

MAIN CHARACTER NAMES AND AGES
Jewel Anderson (21) | Rush McMahon (?)

FEATURES
∘ rockstar romance
∘ struggling fmc
∘ sweet, understanding fmc

REVIEW
Okay, so I’ll be honest, the initial introduction to Jewel and the meetup between Jewel and Rush is VERY similar to Pretty Woman. That being said, as the story went on, The Right Man became its own lovely tale.

I didn’t expect to like Rush as much as I did, especially considering the first time we see him he’s being serviced by three women, but he grew into his own character. I loved how smitten he was with Jewel and how kind and reassuring he was.

Soft-hearted heroines can easily veer into doormat territory, but Jewel’s forgiveness, understanding, and kindness made sense for where she came from. She was trying her best, and I was rooting for her the entire time.

The focus on familial relationships and loss was a surprising addition that I adored. Both Jewel and Rush’s grief was so complicated and heartbreaking. That being said, the plotline with his mother felt so abrupt. Not that the author wasn’t leading up to it (they were), but it felt unnecessary to conclude her relationship with her son in that way.

As a side note, this is set during Christmas-time, but it is not a huge impact on the plot. I could read this in June and not even notice.

I will be reading more from this author. Michelle Mankin took a premise and expanded it with heartfelt writing and genuine characters. I can’t wait to read what comes next.

OW/OM DRAMA OW — the story starts with an explicit scene between Rush and three women ||| past OW — Rush’s ex (and current sister-in-law) stirs up trouble between him and Jewel

3.75 "just like the Pretty Woman" stars

Awwww

I usually don't go for sweet and yet when I stumble upon such a treat I then, take it in stride, as it is.

So, this modern "fairy-tale-ish" story of a rockstar in pursuit of a sense and meaning and self-questioning quest chance encounters a young woman "working a corner" and somehow this instant spark changes the odds for both of them.

What are the odds - she's a struggling prostitute with a heart of gold and moral principles and he's a rich rocker who found himself a muse and purpose. BUT reality still stands...
"This isn't dating, Rush. It's us capturing a moment in time. We can put off the reality of your world and mine for a few days, maybe a week. Then I have to go back to my life.

add a little bit drama, a misunderstanding and a stubborn mistake and a little bit of groveling for a HEA, and you got yourself this little "Pretty woman" look a like...or well the heroine's words could work for this fiction too
Everyone knows real love stories are the very best.

no matter how fictionally unreal and idealistic they sound like *wink wink*

it's was light and sweet and just so...ahhhh and ohhhh

and you got it ;)

So, there, if you are eager and have a sweet tooth, this is the candy for you....enjoy

***5 ‘Wishes Are The Seeds of Desire in Our Heart’ Stars***

And we have another fairytale inspired romance done right, add in a good dose of rockstar smexy and you have a book I couldn’t put down and gave me all the feels right up until the very last words.

I adored Rush and Jewel. Both were a little bruised and battered by what life had thrown at them and the choices they had made, but they survived - with their hearts mostly intact - and found ways to keep going.

As for their journey to their HEA. It definitely has Pretty Woman vibes, but it is all theirs. The smexy going on between them was nuclear, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. The connection they had from the start was strong and I loved watching as it grew the longer they were together. They had a flow to them that made it easy to believe that they could have a forever if they’d only let it happen. As for the lovely (not so lovely) jack knife in their journey? I growled a little and readily admit that I wanted more groveling, but I understood how it could happen and that in the end I loved how they got back on track.

This was a great read from start to finish. I loved the dual 1st person POV’s and the pacing was a good one. The angst was there but in comparison to say the angst level in the RFC series, it falls on the low end of the scale, which I enjoyed. As for the supporting cast of characters, Ben, Brad and Jack definitely peaked my interest and a few of the Tempest crew make an appearance (still have to read those books...one day *crosses toes*) but it was Cam that captured my interest the most and I’m hoping she’ll get her own HEA down the road because if anyone deserves one, it’s her!

*I received a free copy of The Right Man. This has in no way influenced my review which is honest and unbiased.*

The Right Man is a modern day fairytale! And I fell so hard for Rush and Jewel. I just loved how they clicked from the beginning - even with the odds unevenly stacked against them. And their story also showed us that love can conquer absolutely everything.

“PRETTY WOMAN” … monotonous and without the comedy

This was a new author to me. As a sucker for the Pretty Woman premise, it easily hooked me before realizing that the plotless story was nothing more than a date that never ends, borrowed heavily and shamelessly from the film, and played out some stereotypical conflicts to thwart the romance and embarrass the heroine. Rush (mid-20s?) is the burned out rock star who stumbles on down on her luck Jewel (21), an artist-turned-hooker with a heart of gold. And then it’s runaway insta-lust train that he embraces and she resists to protect her heart. The first 1/3 of the book is their initial date. It’s that long and nothing interesting happens except nonstop sex. Not at all as expected.

I didn't connect with either character in this unoriginal romance. Jewel was innocent and sweet on surface, but downright shocked me when she poured on the slick and purring hooker act out of nowhere. Wow, where did that come from? I expected more inexperience and rules that limited what she would do. Uh-uh. And, Rush was harsh and vulnerable at the same time. I had trouble accepting his instantaneous switch from hardcore, out of control, partying manwhore to desperately smitten lover. Didn’t love or hate either character.

There was little substance to their journey. Literally constant sex scenes that numbed me and required skimming through repetitive drills of the couple only coming up for a breather and food and sleep. Lots of chat in between with constant inner thoughts about their eye color, body parts, etc. The important point was supposed to be that both have such sadness and tarnished dreams that suddenly seemed fixable by romance just from an insta-lust connection. In actuality, that felt more like a crutch than something real and genuine. All the stereotypical things happen as in PW, like him spoiling her and her being repeatedly embarrassed by her profession, and then there’s a finale conflict and decision time. Nothing unpredictable. It all comes down to both being pretty much a lifeline to each other in time of need, and realizing their true love, and other half, in each other, but I was unmoved.

Overall, I was disappointed in this author’s writing skills and it was pretty blah for me, without offering a fresh take on the PW premise. The original script of PW had Edward leaving Vivian and she committed suicide. Similarly, this version was sad to me. Also, something that always bugs me is authors writing things they don’t know. The author (I think she lives in Texas) maybe has never been here in LA because she thinks that Wilshire and Hollywood Boulevards (two of the city’s most well-known streets) are close enough to get from one to the other by going around the block. Not possible -- they are parallel (not intersecting) and miles apart. Rush would know this and not be "lost”. He would also know the area of West Hollywood where Jewel was hooking is not dangerous, but upscale – the same area as the upscale hotel on their “date”. This is sloppy attention to detail. Wish I'd skipped this one.

If you love PRETTY WOMAN and Michelle Mankin’s fabulous reads, you will absolutely love her newest book, THE RIGHT MAN. And it doesn’t hurt that we get to see past favorites make an appearance.

I didn’t instantly love Rush but it sure didn’t take long for him to grow on me. He turned out to be such a fantastic guy and watching him fall for Jewel made me melt. Jewel is sweet, but doesn't hold back. She has this charm about her you cannot help but love. Together these two were amazing.

Fantastic story and toe curling romance...this book had me reading all day until I was done. I never wanted to put it down. You will experience all the emotional feels with this one. So don’t hesitate. Pick it up today!!! 5 Stars!

I loved the way the book started out. With Jewel's grandmother telling her a fairytales.

This story hit close to home. I was never a prostitute, but I lost my mother when I was young. I had to live with grandparents. Jewel learned a lot from her grandmother, but still made mistakes. I understand her very well. I think making those mistakes, and learning from is what lead her to Rush. Just how I think is what lead me to my husband. Fate has a funny way making out things for the better.

Rush turned out to be the Prince Charming he needed to be. He was the fairytale that Jewel's grandmother told her about.

I really loved this book. I am very appreciative that I got read it. .

Full length stand-alone told in dual POV with HEA and super sweet epilogue. Rush is a lead singer and guitarist who just finished a long tour. His label Black Cat Records has just denied all the songs for the latest album and his drummer is ready to kill his bass player. Jewel is no stranger to homeless shelters and is barely getting by. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the fact that Jewel was a hooker, it just felt extreme for her personality (why not a stripper like her mom). The relationship between Jewel and her roommate felt very much like it came out of the movie Pretty Woman. A chance encounter between Rush and Jewel has them spending an hour together, then the hour turns into all night, then all night turns into a week, etc. Their back stories are good and through. They have a strong connection and the more they open up to each other the more they discover they have in common. I like that the book is them spending time together and the dialogue is between them and not in their heads. I liked their honesty with one another and the one misunderstanding felt natural and reasonable and I liked that it led to Jewel making better choices with her life. I also liked that Jewel was quick to forgive and move forward with Rush. It was great seeing the secondary characters from the Tempest series! ARC review.

Everything in Rush and Jewel's life is not what is seems. Rush should be on top of the world as the lead singer of his band, but he is not happy. Jewel life is nowhere where it should be as she has fallen so far down as having to be a prostitute just to squeak by.
A random encounter puts them on a path of one hour, one night, to one week of being together in lust to love. The feelings are there on both sides, can they trust those feelings to create a future is the most difficult part of any relationship.

Mankin takes the reader on a ride of what if that end with two batter souls finding the other half of their heart. A great retelling of Cinderella finding her hot rocker prince charming while they save each others souls.

The Right Man could very well be Michelle Mankin's most romantic book to date. The way she beautifully tells the story of the rockstar and the hooker had me swooning from the very first pages. The often broody Rush McMahon finds in Jewel Anderson the woman he didn't even know he needed. She is truly the balm to his troubled soul as they navigate precious time together and wonder if an unexpected love like theirs can truly be the real deal.

Oh my. I truly lost myself in the pages of this book and fell hard for both Rush and Jewel. Getting to watch as they both transform into the very best versions of themselves even in a short amount of time was really beautiful. Jewel's soft-spoken ways were exactly what Rush's heart craved. Despite meeting on an L.A. street corner, there was a subtle chemistry right from the start and it only got stronger and hotter as the days went on. The passion is off the charts erotic between these two. Wildly sexy is an understatement! There is nothing they wouldn't do or try and it yet it became so much more than just sex. I couldn't blame either of them for not wanting their whirlwind 'romance' to end but, of course, it wasn't long before that damn self-doubt crept in along with secrets long-held and it was anyone's guess if they'd truly make it.

Mankin knows rockers like no one else and The Right Man has a ton of cameos by many of her best characters who I've come to adore through the years. These musical gods and goddesses provide the needed support, a bit of comic relief and the love that would ultimately see Rush and Jewel through their combined fears. And these friends never take away the spotlight, they are there to simply point out that love is sometimes all you need and to point them in the right direction when their road seemed littered with detours. Along with a dear, devoted friend in Cam, who often stole the spotlight without even trying, these two just had to make it. I wouldn't accept anything less!!

The rhythm of this story couldn't be more perfect. It flowed effortlessly and I found myself sighing often at how much Jewel and Rush were just so in tune with one another. You couldn't tell where one started and the other ended, their timing and gestures gorgeously in sync. It's like they finally found the missing pieces of their soul and couldn't stand the thought of losing that essence. Sure their worlds were 180 degrees apart and they faced a myriad of issues and negativity but their well-crafted cocoon containing the most surprising kind of love was their super power against everything that threatened their happiness. They just had to believe it.

This book is like a mix of both Cinderella and Pretty Woman, with my huge smile for Rush and Jewel as proof that dreams can come true. You just have to find The Right Man.

A true delight that made me beyond happy at the joy that Mankin can always bring to my heart with her stellar words, I happily give The Right Man a huge 5 stars!

No wishes are needed to make this a five star read, because simply it is a heart inspiring five stars. A modern fairytale that will wrap itself around you with words, love and heartfelt emotion. An unexpected encounter, one that should have been over just as quick as it started, but when fate brings you together should you fight it or take the risk. Rush and Jewel are two broken people who have made mistakes, been judged and at times drowning in their loss. Their story is beautiful and one that will have you enamoured. It is emotional, witty, romantic and off the charts steamy. The connection between the characters is one that radiates off the pages and you will feel deep in your soul. As you take the ride with these two on the melody of their story, it will be one that will leave you full of inspiration, hope and love.

This was a Cinderella inspired tale if Pretty Woman had met a rockstar! It had everything I have come to love about this author. There was heartache and angst, as her characters always feel real and authentic you feel everything along with them. In this story we meet Rush a famous rockstar who is spiraling out of control until he stumbles across Jewel, dressed as Harley Quinn her street persona she uses when approaching clients on the street. Their first encounter is filled with so much raw emotion and passion it bleeds from the page. However, they are both holding back as their lives are worlds apart.

Rush knows that Jewel is a diamond in the rough, however she has been hurt before and finds it hard to trust anyone. Can they break through each others barriers? I loved every minute of this amazing rollercoaster ride filled with love, lust, loss and ultimately hope! I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC and this is my honest review.

This is an irresistible read, a Rockstar Romance carved into a Pretty Woman style Fairytale.
Rush and Jewel's lives are totally opposite, and they are both very unhappy with the situations they both find themselves in with Life. Not being were they want to be. After a chance encounter their lives entwine, It's funny how One hour can change the rest of your whole life.., and put you one the course to love and a possible HEA..
Rush and Jewel will engulf you into their magnificent romance story, I thoroughly enjoyed reading their Sexy, sweet, emotional and steamy story. I could not put it down until the end.
Michelle Mankin has created a captivating, real, raw gorgeous book that I highly recommend.

With The Right Man Mankin delivered a Cinderella/Pretty Woman/Ever After inspired romance that hit all the marks. She also scored with a story that proves love can conquer all!

Jewel is our heroine - a hooker with a heart (and eyes) of gold. Circumstances put her in her current position. Fate places her in Rush's path. It's easy to fall for and believe in this compassionate and loyal young woman. Especially considering the fact she can't see her own worth.

Rush - our hero - is a rock star accustomed to getting anything he wants. So when Jewel puts him in his place with her sharp tongue, he's intrigued. The longer he spends with her, the more time he longs for because she, unlike most others, sees him for who he is and appreciates him for all of it.

Mankin did a remarkable job at conveying the consequences of the paths these two had taken and the vulnerabilities they each felt. Because of past decisions and past mistakes they both felt as though the fell short and used virtual armor of sorts - Rush with his arrogance and Jewel with her disguise. But in each other's eyes, they saw validation and completion. And despite being from two different worlds in the present, they came from similar backgrounds. Besides that, they had love and *singing* Love will keep us together. ;)

On a personal note, I'm very close to my grandmother. Jewel was raised by her Gran and I so appreciated Jewel's sharing of the wisdom her Gran had imparted.

The Right Man is a delight. It's a read sure to make you believe fairy tales can come true. And that love can conquer anything.

Fairytale remake?

This reminded me of the story of Cinderella....the downtrodden beautiful girl, the Prince arriving in his very expensive chariot to carry her away. Of course it was worlds apart from that story! Rush is a successful rockstar and Jewel is a lady of the night. He is propositioned by her while pulled over and he hires her even though she asks for an exorbitant price to hire her for the whole night. They fall in love which is a scary thing for both. We also meet some familiar characters from previous books which I loved.

Not her best story but still good.

**The Right 5 Star Read!!**

The Right Man is definitely no average fairy tale ... it is sultry and has a lot of heat built into the story. The shadows that lurk in the dark will keep you hanging on to the angst. The almost's and should have's are hanging on each breath of these characters. The darkness and monsters are there to swallow them up, until they find each other. I immediately was stuck on hero worship with Rush. But then I saw the naughty side of him and it was lust after! Our heroine Jewel is in survival mode and knows nothing else. She is a bit flighty at first, and ready to run. But once you get to understand her, you can't help but hope for a little peace for her.

The characters are not so forgiving and they have to fight for what they want. This story will keep you on your toes and fall for The Right Man!

Be still my heart! I LOVED this story. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. The fairytale-rocker romance was amazing and once I started the book, I couldn't put it down!

There was something about the two main characters, Rush and Jewel that I loved. I adored them from start to finish, don't get me wrong I wanted to smack them a little bit at times, but that's normal. They both are a little broken because of what life has thrown at them, the choices they've made and their lifestyles- this has only made them stronger and they survived. The only down side of their lifestyles and choices was that they closed off their hearts. Their first meeting wasn’t what I was expecting, but there is this chemistry between them that was insane. These two needed each other, they just didn’t know it. Watching Rush and Jewel navigate finding their way to each other was so sweet. They found their happily ever after and it was perfect.

Mankin takes you on an emotional ride of watching these two find themselves and each other. There's love, heartache and so many other emotions, but in the end you can't help but love and these two! I can't wait for more form the author!

Who doesn’t love a good rockstar romance? Plus combine it with a fairy tale....I do!! If you do too, then you HAVE to read this book!! Michelle Mankin delivers both of these in her fabulous new book, The Right Man!! Jewel always wanted the fairytale romance that her grandmother had and talked about, but she hasn’t gotten it yet. Rush wanted the fame and fortune of being a musician, but now that he’s a famous rock star, he realizes something is missing. When these two meet by coincidence, it’s love at first sight, they just don’t know it yet! They fight through the ups and downs before they finally get their HEA! This was hands down one of the best rockstar books that I’ve ever read!!! A MUST read!! 💜💜

First time reader of Ms Mankin and I’m definitely going through her catalogue to see what else she’s written of interest. I was caught hook, line and sink...R. From the first page, I was enchanted by the storytelling and giggling like a little girl at Rush’s antics. The Right Man’s storyline was executed and delivered in a perfect manner. I found myself being the little girl eagerly listening to the story and hoping for my very own fairytale. The characters were well developed and relatable, My mind drifted to Pretty Woman as I read, this is a perfect modern Cinderella retelling. I experienced every emotion, love and lust, I swooned, was happy, felt sad, laughed and became angry. I cried both happy and sad tears until the very last page was turned. Highly recommend this one.
