A*M*A*Z*I*N*G READ! Bring on Book 2 please!!!!
I cannot believe this is a debut book, Winter Paige did an awesome job of pulling me in right from the very beginning and never let me go, I devoured this book in one afternoon!

We start off when Eliana was eight years old and discovered in the basement of a house waiting for her mother just like she was told to do, only it wasn't her mother that came for her it was Costin (age 9) who she dubs as her "knight" so he can help her slay the bad men. The sassyness of this little girl only gets better as we watch her grow into an amazing woman.

This story had me laughing, crying, doubling over in laughter, and sobbing like a baby that had a pacifier taken away from her....I mean it I felt every emotion in such magnitude it was simply amazing. I am still in awe that this is a debut book by a debut author.

This book journeys through 9 years and we celebrate each birthday with Eliana, some were simply sweet and one in particular had me wanting to hurl my kindle across the room. Like I said people, all the emotions were felt!

I cannot urge you enough to read this book if you are a fan of dark reads. This is book one which does end on a cliffhanger but book two will be out very, very soon!

Happy Reading!!!

**I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book for my Blog, Nadine's Obsessed with Books before it was available for purchase which I did once it was available and I preordered the second book!!!!**

I’m surprised by this book.
I wasn’t excepting the level of angst in this book….Like wow. That was a tailspin.
Secondly, I was recommended this book because I love a dark romance! I think that was one thing that was ‘disappointing’… I felt it was rather muted to be considered a dark romance but perhaps the second book will be darker.
Yes, I am looking forward to reading book 2 because I really enjoy Shattered Lies.
I loved the chemistry and the tension between the characters.
Eliana was not my favourite character. I mean, she herself admitted that she was a brat who basically has everyone wrapped around her fingers. BUT I do think that Winter Paige has written some really swoony male characters.
I love love triangles and forbidden loves and this one hit the mark on those tropes.

Did I forget to mention that this is a Debut book? NO? Well it is. Bravo to Winter Paige cause I look forward to reading her next book.

5 wth stars!! I can’t believe all of that goodness was in just one book, bring on book two!!!

This is book one of the “Devastation Duet” and can not be read as a stand alone. Yes there is a cliffy but it is well worth it.

This is a story of a princess, a knight, a villain, and Prince Charming. It may sound like the perfect fairytale but trust and believe this is no fairytale.

I love how dark and twisted this book was but still had that evil fairytale vibe. Eliana was born to an evil woman and ends up in such a bad place. Yes there are still many secrets uncovered but we know something was horribly wrong. But in steps the boys and Andrew. Life gets better. But the entire time you wait for the shoe to drop. The level of angst in this book is crazy!!

This is the authors debut novel. I was shocked when I realized this. This was not written like an a amateur. The writing is flowing and perfect. She brought us into this castle of sorts and have us rooting for everyone. I can’t even tell you who exactly is the bad guy. That’s when I know I am invested.

This book was way more then I expected. There is secrets, lies, hopes, laughs, anger, disgust, sexy time and so much more. Grab your copy today!!

**I received this book as a review copy from the author and in return gave my honest review**

When I start to read a new author and sometimes even a new series by an author I already love, it can take me a while to get into a book. Kind of like you’re getting to know new friends for the first time.
Amazingly this was not the case with Winter Paige’s Shattered Lies.

At all.

I think it took me all of 10 minutes to fall for these characters. And fall, I did. Head over heels.
These fuckers got me right in the feels. OMG the feels!

ELIANA - The Proncess

She is one hell on wheels, adorable explosion of trouble. I love her!
Found alone, scared and starving at 8 years old she manages to melt the hearts of the bad, bad men that found her.

They, just like me, loved her almost immediately and took her home to protect and love.
She grows up in the home of a very bad man (the king) with his soldiers (her knight, her protector and her prince Charming) and is treated like the princess she demands they recognise her as. The older she gets though, the harder and darker life gets.

Promises are made then broken. Hearts are filled then shattered. Lines are drawn and then crossed.

COSTIN The Knight
There are few stories out there that can really make me feel the love. This guy? Och man, he has it bad. A soul-deep connection.
I loved him, I hated him, I cried for him.
He’s loved her from the first time he laid eyes on her.
But he’s Just. Not. Allowed. To!
He can’t cross the King
People have died for less.

ANDREW - The King
JAXX - The Protector
JOSHUA - Prince Charming

These men are all slaves to this mightly little warrior in their own way and I LOVED them all. They all have very strong roles in this story and by the end, I was sobbing in my wee nest. I. Don't. Cry!

SEX SCENES

The sex in this book is either beautiful and romantic or...datk and dirty. There is no in-between. And I know which I prefer, lol.

“That’s right, Darlin’, just like that. Give me those tits” He leans forward, pushing her large breasts together and takes both of the nipples in his mouth at the same time, sucking hard. She moans out deeply and picks up her pace. I grab my girl’s hips tightly and begin moving her to match their increased pace when I see Rachel coming this way. “Cos, baby, if you wanted more, you should have just asked,” Rachel says, slinking up completely naked. I nearly blow my load when she places a foot on the table in front of us and slides one side of a black strapless double dildo into her wet pussy, moaning seductively. She walks up behind the dark-haired girl on my lap and pushes her forward roughly into my chest while stroking the other half of the cock. “Spit,” she commands the girl, catching the saliva and massaging it into the girl’s ass before sliding in. “Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck!” she groans into my neck as Rachel works into her. “You like that, Costin? Fuck her with me. Harder!” Fuck, Rachel is a dirty whore, and I love it.

FINAL THOUGHTS on SHATTERED LIES by Winter Paige

In the name of the wee man! I need to read the next book in the series. NOW! This honestly took the wind right out of me with the emotions it brought up in me.

Omg. What a debut book! Amazing. Loved it.

Ms. Paige has shown us a dark and twisted take on Princesses, Knights and Prince. There was laughter. Heartache. Darkness. And so much feels. So much that at times you can’t breathe.

I love Cos. He is the dark and twisted Knight that you can’t help but love. And omg Jaxx. Cannot wait to read of his story. Of all of their stories.

Why 4 stars you will ask? Because at times main heroine just annoyed me way too much. Too much pink. Too much being spoilt. But nonetheless amazing read that I recommend wholeheartedly.

Go and read once it’s out!

This is my first time reading this author and this story blew me away! Eliana’s story begins when she is 8 and it follows her every year until she is presently 17!

This isn’t a ya story though, it’s dark and full of angst and omg I loved every second of it!

This is part one and you betcha I will not sleep until I finish this duet!

This was such an intense and amazing read. Being the debut story for this author, I was surprised and astounded at how deeply she took us into the characters' lives. I've never really been into "mob-based" novels and tend to shy away from them. But there was something about the way Eliana captured me from the moment I met her in the first chapter. I wanted to know who she was speaking to and knew I had to read it to find out. And when the author immediately took us to the child who would become the woman speaking at the beginning of the story, I could tell this little girl would be untamable no matter how hard everyone tried to do just that with her.

All of the secondary characters were necessary and played dynamic parts in the depth of the story. There wasn't one moment that wasn't important. The love triangle was absolutely heartbreaking. The secrets revealed as they navigated their ways through their growing from little children to young adults absolutely crushed me. And I have a feeling we have barely scratched the surface of the underhanded dealings or the importance of each of these characters.

It's a mystery wrapped up in a riddle wrapped up in a puzzle, and I wanted to get to the center of it with each corner I turned. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, the author proved me wrong by adding another layer to the deception and to the secrets that I kept peeling away. The teenage angst was evident, and the corruption and greed that drives so many of the characters runs so much deeper than is revealed in this first in the series. I laughed out loud and cried over the heart deep pain this heroine went through. I cannot wait to read the next book and am dying to see where this story leads.

Shattered Lies (Devastation Duet Book 1)

by Winter Paige (Goodreads Author)

Read

This story, guys, it is so damn good. This world, these characters burrowed their way into my heart, and refuse to leave! I was, and still am so captivated by Eliana, Costin and Jaxx. Ok fine, and Joshua.

Paige did such an amzing job, creating a dark and twisted world for Eliana. I'm so in love with Eliana. I love that as a scared little girl she reverted to fairy tales. Love that she chose her Knight, her Champion and her Charming, and that she was the Princess. Her life didnt start out too great, but she has this way of capturing hearts everywhere she goes. The lengths her Knight and her Champion go to, to keep her safe is...so heartfelt, dark and twisted all at the same time.

I literally am so amazed that this is Paiges' debut. It's amazing. So take a chance and get this book

The story is intricately woven together seamlessly blending the past and the present while still keeping me guessing about what’s next. A world full of tragedy and secrets but Eliana clings to the hope she finds in fairytales too stubborn to ever give up. There was more angst than I knew what to do with. The feels had me all over the place. The characters felt natural because they are are built on a sturdy foundation. I enjoyed watching them grow. My heart was ripped out of my chest so much that parts of me are still lost in the pages. The sass was real and so much fun to read. A bit dark, but beautifully twisted. It’s a page turner that I never wanted to end! A debut novel that knocked my socks off.

Wow!! What an amazing, intense, thrilling story! Shattered Lies by Winter Paige held me captivated the entire book and left me wanting so much more! This audiobook is narrated by Connor Crais and Eva Glade.

Eliana is loved and cherished by her father, and group of over protective men. Costin is one of those men who have always been her knight. Costin and Eliana have a special bond and love for each other. Her father says Costin is no good for her, and won't let him be with her. Joshua is pure and the right choice for Eliana and they quickly fall in love as well. As more of the story unfolds, more and more secrets are revealed leaving you wanting more!

Connor Crais does an epic job of narrating Andrew, Costin, and Joshua. He did an phenomenal job narrating each male character, never making you wonder who was telling the story. Eva Glad was a new to me narrator, and she was amazing! I loved her passion she conveyed through Eliana's character. Both narrator's voices flowed so well together.

Overall Winter Paige has written deep, emotional, dark characters, and an epic story! Beware this story ends on a cliffhanger, and will leave you wanting the next book!

I can't wait for the next part.

This book certainly grabbed my attention, it reads like a dark twisted fairytale with its fascinating characters. A pampered Princess, Prince Charming and a Dark Knight what more could you want? And like every good fairytale should, it has its share of monsters too.

There're twists and turns, secrets and lies throughout. It's a riveting page turner laced with danger, cruelty and violence.
The pace flowed well with lots of background story so you really get a feel for the characters.

I'm not sure about my feelings for Eliana as yet, I found her to spoilt and irritatingly naive at times. I'm hoping she surprises me in book 2. I saw glimpses of the strong woman I know she can be, so fingers crossed.

I definitely had a favourite character and it was Jaxx, he really intrigued me and I can't wait for more from him.

I'm looking forward to reading the next part, I'm sure we're in for one hell of a ride as more devastating ugly truths are revealed.

Shattered lies

This story is about Eliaina she is a girl was pulled out of a basement. By some of the worst men who do terrible things enter Andrew, Costin, Jaxx and Abel. These men take E and make her their own they spoil her and love her greatly while keeping E in the dark about the underbelly of what they do. There is a huge web of lies deceit and mistrust that is a key feature in this book. Every single one of these men adore E but the web of lies is so large that when everything falls together one moment the whole world explodes. There are so many side characters that also make this story great.

I give this first story which ends in a cliffhanger a 3.5 rating the side character's truly make this story I am also fully team Costin!

This book is a twist on the modern day fairytale. Not all love stories are butterfly's and sunshine. Some love stories cut deep, leave you raw, and hurt your heart. But those stories are the ones with passion and truth. This is that story.

I could tell you about how strong Eliana is. That she is perfect in her complexity. I could tell you that the twist will change your view of fairytales forever. Or, I could tell you how the Knight, the Prince, and the Champion crawled into my soul and are waiting there for their ending.

But, I wont. What I will tell you is that you should see for yourself.

P.S. though I love them all, Jaxx is mine

This book was so amazing!! It was so heartbreakingly beautiful. It kept me on my toes the entire time. I feel so emotionally drained after finishing it. I laughed, I smiled, I cried. It left me desperately wanting more. It was such an emotional rollercoaster but those are usually the best books to read because they make you feel something. And Shattered Lies made me feel a whole lot of stuff. It was my first Winter Paige book but it will definitely not be my last. I can’t wait to see what happens next in book 2!!

Words truly cannot explain how much I loved this book, but I will do my best. I was honestly hooked from page one, and simply could not put it down. Eliana will have you laughing so hard with her attitude and her sass. My current mantra is: what would Eliana do?

This book will give you all the feels. ALL. OF. THEM. You will laugh. You will cry. I totally sobbed, and I'm not afraid to admit it. You'll fall in love with some characters, and absolutely despise others.

This is, hands down, an absolute must read. Highly recommended.

Are you ready for this one? I am not so sure that you are, but I sure hope that you accept the challenge. Eliana, Costin, and Joshua were a cast of characters that each had a story of their own and together things felt right. Listening to find if Eliana would choose Costin or Joshua was worth every bit of the time it took to get to the end. But that was not the end really. I am excited to get to the next book of this duet. I want to know where do things go from her. Sorry not giving up the goods. You have to listen for yourself. Just know that it is not all that it seems to be. You may just be in for a surprise.

Elaina is saved from a locked basement to be thrown into a beautiful prison. Elaina has her knight, her Charming and what she thinks is the perfect life. If only she knew what really went on behind the scenes and the truth to who she is. Jaxx and Costin are her "brothers" who love her and would do anything for her. All the characters in this book are so good and the story is well written. This was a great story and I can't wait to read the next one!

Costin & Eliana’s Love Blossoms In Youth, But His Love Is Forbidden! Joshua Was Hand-Picked For Her, But Eliana Cannot Help But Fall For The Sweet Boy As Well. Years Of Denial Push Costin & Eliana Apart, But The Future Remains Uncertain. Eliana’s Story Ends With A Twist That Will Change Everything, Once Again Setting Up A Battle Of The Heart, But Andrew Still Has A Secret Up His Sleeve.

This is book one of the Devastation Duet, which is oddly in three parts. The series includes:
1. Shattered Lies
2. Broken Trust
3. Severed Bonds

This is not a happy story, although there are happy parts. There are a few scenes that will make you laugh or smile, but there are some gruesome scenes as well. This is the story of children that grow up in an adult world. Their childhoods have been stolen from them, their choices taken. There is forbidden love. There is heartbreak and betrayal. There is at least one love triangle. This book ends in a soft cliffhanger with a natural transition in the story.

This story is told from various points of view over time. Much of the story takes place on Eliana’s birthday, in February of each year.

Eliana was eight when Costin found her in that basement. She was hungry and terrified, but she had never let the bad men see her cry. Her attachment to Costin was immediate, and she recognized him as her knight. He would always protect her. With her mother’s death, she had become an orphan, so Andrew had agreed that they would take her home with them. He adopted her, and she became a princess. Costin, Jaxx, and Abel were her protectors. As the daughter of Andrew Jameson, her life became a fairy tale of sorts. The men in her life all adored her, spoiling her with their attention, but there was danger brewing in the background.

Costin Andrews is a great thief, a skill he honed on the streets. He was eight when he stole from Andrew Jameson. Fortunately, Andrew had use for him when he tracked him down. He and Jaxxson had been together for a while before that, both without family, so Andrew made them both a part of his random family. Now instead of stealing from Andrew, Costin steals for him. Costin was nine when he found Eliana in that basement. He knew he would never leave her. Her bravery was exceptional, and her sass demonstrated incredible resilience. Costin loved her with all he had, but Andrew had other plans for her.

Jaxxson was twelve when he and Costin were taken in by Andrew. Andrew entrusts him with a great deal, sending him out on jobs for days at a time and tasking him with research, etc. There is much about what Jaxx does that Costin and Eliana do not know. He also works as an enforcer. He is no stranger to violence, yet he remains a steady presence and a calm voice.

Abel is one of Andrew’s trusted men. He is a beast of a man at six foot seven, but he is a softie when it comes to Eliana.

Andrew Jameson is consumed by darkness. He is driven by greed and power, and he will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Eliana is the key, and adopting her suits his needs. Like his men, he cannot help loving the little girl who brought life to his random family. But that doesn’t stop the business that takes place in his basement or the blood that sometimes flows. The parties are notorious, giving him power and influence.

Joshua Laporte is twelve when he first sees Eliana. She is the vision of an angel as she sits at her knight’s side. He knows she loves him, but he hopes she will learn to love him, to choose him instead. He knows he is the best choice for happiness.

Costin and Eliana’s love is never allowed to blossom, but while Costin falls into darkness as result, Eliana turns instead to the love of another. Everyone loves Princess Eliana, but it leads to jealousy and heartbreak. Andrew has his own motivations for adopting Eliana, secrets that could change everything. The story ends with hope that is instantly crushed, once again setting up a battle of the heart.

Book two, Broken Trust, follows.

There are a few issues that merit mention. *Spoilers* First, reminiscent of Douglas Adams’ trilogy in five parts, this is a duet is in three parts. Unlike the Adams series, this is not a comedic work, so it just comes across as confusing. Next, although it does come across as adorable much of the time, the fact that Eliana has so many men wrapped around her finger becomes a little much at some points. That Abel, who is twice the age of Eliana and her friends, is portrayed as potentially being included in her list of admirers, is a bit much and diminishes the sweet, mature protector angle. Next, Costin and Jaxx had been like brothers for so long, but it feels as if their tight relationship began to wane at some point. That is alright, but it was not really explained. If Jaxx had concerns, he might have worked harder to prevent Costin from getting in too deep. That at his tender age, he had love stolen from him and was made to feel less than, it is not surprising he turned a little dark and found distractions that he might otherwise have avoided. In the absence of a father figure – as Andrew was no father to him, what Costin needed was a brother or a best friend. He was left flailing and heartbroken, and he was tortured by living in close proximity to the girl he could never have. Watching her fall for another would almost certainly push him to the dark side. I wondered why Jaxx had not tried harder to help his friend. Related to that, Eliana is supposed to be smart, but she holds Costin’s distance and his conquests against him. She ought to know at the very least that Costin stands to lose his home and the only family he has known were he to cross Andrew’s wishes. It is almost cruel that she is angry with him. Another confusing point is Rachel’s character. First, it is odd that a housekeeper would be also used as she is. Mixing those roles is rather confusing, particularly because she is passed around. Were she just with Andrew, for example, it would be easier to picture. Second, I would expect that Rachel would either become jealous of the devotion and attention that Eliana gets in the upstairs, or she would cause Eliana to become uncomfortable. Hiding the intimacy she has developed with the men would be difficult. As for Eliana, she had loved Costin more than Joshua, but she later declares Joshua was the only one, that there had never been a choice. This does not ring true at all. Next, there are declarations of love that feel unnatural given the ages. Separately, there is an error in the timeline. It begins with chapter one, which supposedly takes place twelve years ago when Eliana is eight years old. That would make her twenty now. Yet when the ages shift to the present tense, “now,” Eliana is just seventeen, and this book ends with her at seventeen. Next, Jaxx is quite young to be entrusted with the kind of jobs Andrew assigns. We hear of Abel, who is Eliana’s favorite of her father’s men, but we hear nothing of the other men. Presumably, if he has other men, Andrew would hire someone older and more established to do the work that Jaxx does. Next, Joshua is sent away because of some undefined extracurricular activities, and his supposed undying love for Eliana feels dishonest without a good explanation.

Costin and Eliana’s love blossoms in their youth, but for Costin, it is a forbidden love. Joshua might have been hand-picked for her, but Eliana cannot help but fall for the sweet boy as well. Years of denying their love for one another push Costin and Eliana in different directions, but the future remains uncertain. Eliana’s story ends with a twist that will change everything, but Andrew still has a secret up his sleeve.

Eliana’s life sometimes mimics parts of her favorite fairy tale – Sleeping Beauty - a story that her protectors often read to her. That story had a happy ending, though. If you are rooting for Costin, the knight never wins the princess – that privilege is reserved for the prince. His story is heartbreaking. This book is nicely written, but its presentation is somewhat awkward. The transition from one point of view to another often includes that particular character’s age. While I greatly appreciate that I do not need to do mental acrobatics to follow the passage of time, it felt funky. I still ended up going back sometimes, verifying the previous ages to calculate the passage of time. It was at least easy to find, but I would have preferred something that flowed more naturally. The characters draw you in; since several have their own point of view, it does keep you guessing the direction of the story. The story is told in first person. The POV alternates between Costin, Eliana, Andrew, and Joshua. I rate this book four stars.

I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

There are so many secrets to be revealed. Eliana was found by Costin in a basement after her mother left her there and told her to stay until she comes to find her. Her mother never showed up again so Costin took her home with him to live with her new daddy and her other brother Jaxx. Bothe the boys treated her like a princess and she called them her Knight and her Champion. Eventually she meets Prince Charming. Her new daddy has all kinds of crazy around him and bring the boys into his world of crazy. Eliana never knew about the underground club. The story grabs you from the beginning and you want to read the story all in one sitting to find out what happens next and what secrets will surface. Jaxx, Costin, and Joshua all love her and want to be with her, but she has a stronger connection with one, but can they really be together or will they be torn apart?

I enjoyed this book from a new to me author.

The beginning was very interesting and the story had enough to keep me going.

What I didn't like was that the characters were put in scenarios that seemed a bit unrealistic for people their ages. Gifting each other diamonds and getting elephants (or was it a cow?). Maybe that's just how the rich roll, who knows?

Then what really bugged me was that every other female character, except for Eliana, was either a ditz, slut, or something in the lines. Only Eliana was perfect and strong and not a whore and every male character either wanted to do her or protect her.

I hate when authors belittle all the other women in books to make their MC "special".

It was a good book nonetheless. The writing is decent and I might read book two to find out what happens.

This is an amazing first book of a set of two books. It comes to a real conclusion, but leaves a lot unanswered to be finished in the second book so still counts as having a clilffhanger, I think. It is about a young girl who is found after having been left in a cold basement by an abusive mother. The boy who finds her declares he will always love her. The man who also saves her from the basement and adopts her seems to be a crime lord who needs her for some reason, saying at one point that she is the key to everything. There are many mysterious events, betrayals, loves, and an extremely dramatic conclusion leading to the next book. I highly recommend reading this one and definitely plan to read the second book right away!

★ Journey into Princess Eliana’s dark & twisted fairy tale ★

—>>> This is the story of a little princess named Eliana, as we follow her on a journey through her dark and twisted version of a fairy tale, from the time she is saved at the age of eight by two boys she believes are her Knight and her Champion and the man who takes her in and rules them all, her new Daddy. She later meets her Charming, who is willing to patiently wait until the end of time to claim her as his. Greed, depravity, deceit, and heartbreak are in store for this little Princess, who gets little peeks from behind the blindfold her Daddy insists she wears regarding the life and family he has made her a part of. Looking forward to finishing her dark and twisted fairy tale in the next book!

Whew

Talk about being book hungover!!! I'm not sure i... can even...hmmm. I loved this from the beginning. I was captivated by the sassy little girl that was starving and afraid. I was enchanted and intrigued by the scary man who took her in. I feel in love with the knight that always loved his princess. I was angry by betrayed friends. I cried for broken hearts and further betrayal. This book had it all... and I'm still reeling!!! I definitely need more. But this book. Prepare for sleepless nights. And follow the journey of a princess whose kingdom was built on lies and love.

Shattered Lies is Winter Paige's debut book. All I can say is I am hooked. It is so good it leaves you wanting more. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and will leave you spinning. I love the characters, Eliana - Princess, Costin - her Knight and Jaxx - her Champion and Joshua - her Charming. All three love Eliana and would and do everything to protect her. Eliana is full of sass and the witty banter will make you laugh. I can’t wait to read Book 2 in the duet.
