Every time you think that Scott Snyder can't get any more crazy and ambitious in this epic run, he puts his beer down and shows us that there's no end to the insanity! I'm not sure why Snyder and James Tynion feel this need to make everything way more complicated than it needs to be. It seems like every issue so far has been dedicated to adding more and more cosmic mumbo jumbo to an already hard-to-understand multiverse-threatening mix. It’s getting a bit out of hand. But I guess if you’re going to write Justice League you have to go big or go home!

Here, in just 400 pages, the writers throw more development into the Thanagar Prime mythos, changes the history of Martian Manhunter, connects it with the introduction of a new part of Lex Luthor’s history, further complicating the Source entities, the history of the multiverse, while also revealing more on the powerful being lurking beyond the Source Wall, Perpetua, and how she is connected to the multiverse and the other cosmic entities. But that's before the discovery of the 6th Dimension, getting help from Mr. Mxyzptlk, all of it cliffhanging into Lex Luthor's big gambit and the massive Year of the Villain event.

Now that’s not to say that I’m not having a good time with all this silly craziness (because I totally am), but I can recognize that it’s insane and I hope that the creators can handle all that they're introducing. I'll never argue with anyone that dislikes this book because of all the confusion. But if you love the crazy, over-the-top adventures of classic Justice League, Fantastic Four, or other Silver and Bronze Age work, and you're really well-versed in DC lore, you'll probably love this one!

I can’t believe this was the conclusion to Scott Snyder’s Justice League. I recently ordered the Year of the Villain trade so I can continue. Really enjoyed this run.

Well... I loved this. Really.

It was super fun, it made sense (and even helped me understand other stuff) and it was engaging! And alternative reality stories get me, what can I tell you. I am a simple guy.

Also, Jarro is the best character ever created in the history of comics.

I love cosmic goddesses of death and destruction!

The Perpetua storyline is interesting - it's this idea that the multiverse was originally created by a cosmic entity who wanted her creations to be ruthless and violent. However, I find the whole "heading towards judgement" angle odd. The gist of it is that the multiverse is one of many multiverses and will be judged by another cosmic being who might wipe them all out if the majority (I guess?) aren't "enlightened" enough. This is such an awkwardly Biblical direction to take things.

However, there's a lot of stuff I enjoyed in this. If you had told me Martian Manhunter and Hawkgirl were the main focus I may have been hesitant to pick this up - nothing against them, they're just not characters I've ever felt particularly drawn to. But I really liked them here!

I also loved J'onn's secret childhood friendship with Lex Luthor (that they both forgot for plot reasons) and the reveals about Lionel!

Mxyzptlk comes into this and that's fun. I don't mind the idea that Superman and Batman both have fifth dimensional imps "assigned" to them, because it kind of tracks. However, it does annoy me that the implication is these grand cosmic decisions were always going to come down to Batman and Superman, essentially sidelining the rest of the League. Poor Wonder Woman has nothing to do in this volume; she's just hanging out.

The alternate universe/future thing was fun, though. And I was happy that Shayne got to stay in the end! Though how awkward is it for Kendra and J'onn to have a kid now, before even being in a relationship? They kissed one time - now they have a kid! Comics are weird.

Also, Jarro! I love Jarro! The running joke of this telepathic space-starfish calling Batman "Dad" and dreaming about being Robin was maybe the best part.

Justice League By Scott Snyder Book 2 collects issues 13-25 and Annual 1 written by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, and Jorge Jimenez with art by Jorge Jimenez, Jim Cheung, among others.

Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern search for answers on Thanagar. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor and the Legion of Doom are coming closer and closer to freeing Perpetua.

I think I enjoyed Book 2 as much as I hated Book 1. The issues and arc flowed better and began to make much more sense. This whole series has felt like one huge Crisis event which is great because it hasn't felt rushed. I do have a few complaints, the biggest of which is that Wonder Woman has almost zero involvement in this story at all. She is more of an after thought. One of my favorite parts of this series has been Jarro - he steals every scene he is in and I want to see more (Please give me a Batman & Jarro miniseries. Please!). The art has also been really strong throughout the series and Jimenez is proving he is one of the best artists in DC Comics at the moment. I still felt that Tynion's issues have been the best books in the series so I think the apprentice may have surpassed the master in this case.

Batman and Superman come forwad and take the rein in the second part, while the pages are filled with the plight of the Justice League of the present working with the Legion of Doom of the future to beat the Justice league of the future and the present day Legion of Doom (a boggling mix but streamlined artfully), but the batman works his detective mind to its full power, believing in his league even in the face of pure facts that tells him they are wrong, and Superman goes into a soul searching trip that brings him back from near death stronger than ever.

This second part corrects the course of action to the level I was anticipating, after a not so worthy part one, and leaves me anticipating the grand finale in book three.

This book continues the plot threads left dangling on the first volume, and it does a great job of following through and expanding on the events from the first book.

This second volume is, in many ways, stronger thant he first. The storytelling is more focused, less wordy, and moves at a slightly faster pace. The first volume, while having its share of big events and action, was slower and more wordy, probably to allow the reader to better understand and interiorize the cosmic concepts that are essential to understand the plots and threats the JL is faced with. Now that there is less to explain, the stories become more focused and immediate, while still presenting its share of high-concept cosmic plot threads and additions.

The Sixth Dimension arc, in particular, is excelllent.

The artwork is, much like in the first volume, by Jim Cheung and Jorge Jiminez. And while both are very good, Jiminez's artwork is sublime. So dynamic, so stylish, and so expressive. Its just fantastic.

Bare in mind, Scott Snyder's whole Justice League run should really be viwed as one long big story. While there are many twists, turns and adventure, there is never a real resoulution until its end (or so I assume, considering these two volumes, altough I've heard that even then, alot is left dangling, only to be resolved the Snyder penned events Death Metal and year of the Villain).

Also, a good grasp of DC's multiversial concepts is really kind of necessary if one is to properly enjoy this run. A casual reader might find himself quite confused by all this weird concepts if he is not somewhat familiarized with what came before.

Onwards to volume 3. if it's as good as this one, I'll have a blast with it.

In my opinion Book Two is much stronger than Book One. The writing and plot flows a lot better, and the characters feel more fleshed out and developed.

The first plot takes place on Thranagar Prime, and gives a chance for both Martian Manhunter and Hawk-girl to take the spotlight. This arc felt like a much needed breath of fresh air after the Drowned Earth in Book One. Taking some time to focus on the characters.

The next arc is the Sixth Dimension and is a lot of fun. Snyder develops the lore surrounding the multiverse and paves the way for the madness to come in Death Metal. I'm a big fan of the newly-introduced "World Forger" and his role in the DC Cosmos. Batman and Superman get the most time to shine in this arc but the rest of the cast aren't ignored.

Also I have to say I adore Jarro. Absolutely adorable and always fun throughout the story.

Still a lot of multiverse gibberish but it flows so much more easily than the first book. I enjoyed the read and did not have to force myself like I did with the first one. It is fast paced but not rushed. There are 3 issues more centered on past events (flashbacks) for global background which were pleasant and useful.

The only negative point is the characters building or involvement. Basically, many prominent members of this JL are not very usually / used (Wonderwoman, Flash, Green Lantern), and on the other hand we have a lot of Martian Manhunter.

It got me curious about Year of the Villains that launched from the end of this Book Two but I am not sure a satisfying collected edition is out yet?

Overall, way better than the first deluxe, but still filled with a TON of multiversal, cosmic stuff that bends around itself, but not in a fun way. I did like the ending of the arc with them running into the Sixth Dimension to find future, perfect copies of themselves, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the lead up to it? Took too long for me. Maybe that's also why I wasn't in love with the second arc when Lex just recruits every powerful villain for a future plan; love the idea! A little faster, please. :D

Significantly better then the first. Created great suspense leading into year of the villain and the rest of death metal. Introduced interaction between new characters and raised the stakes to new heights. Also a touching moment here and there. I wanted somewhere close to a four star but definitely higher then a three. I don’t think you need to read book one at all. You won’t miss anything in the plot of the entirety of “death metal”. Book two is what you want.

This book took a little bit for me to get into, but it's ending was much better than its beginning. The initial storyline was just not able to capture my attention and make me want to keep picking up this book. However, when I sat down and powered through this, it truly showed why this plot for the League is something to read. The twists and turns are perfectly paced and actually shocking.

Overall, a great installment, just the beginning that took it down for me.

The artwork by various artists in here is top notch, and the writing is sort of high concept. Godly cosmic threats and somehow the league can still stand up against them. This is comic book story telling at some of its funnest.

Scott Snyder’s take on the justice league is pretty great. So far I think I prefer his Batman run and work on metal. I hope that he does a deluxe edition volume 3!
