Bass player Jackie Hernandez has landed a permanent gig with the respected all-female rock band The Neon Fishnets. There’s only one problem: Ivy Finch. In the past, Jackie and The Fishets’ keyboardist engaged in an ugly online feud. Jackie is ready to put the feud behind them, but fiery Ivy holds a grudge. Amid recording a hot new album, spending late nights out at wild parties, and navigating the media as they prepare to go on tour, Jackie and Ivy realize they have more in common than they originally thought. And things get really complicated when their attraction to one another heats up, taking an unexpected, sexy turn.

**'The first few sentences of the first chapter should be the ultimate attraction to make readers wanna continue reading your story..'
Okay read! Not the greatest writing but still a readable 1st book in 'The Neon Fishnets' series that features an okay love story. Recommended if you're into female rock band music!
She stepped up to me and ran her fingers down the length of my arm until taking my hand in hers. "I want to hate you, but I can't."

I lament to say, it's true: the cover is hotter than the book itself. This book was a nice pick-me-up for a buffer in between long, more intense reads, but the romance lacked build-up to romantic moments, the characters lacked substance and the writing just...lacked. I didn't have a bad time, but it was nothing memorable. TW: drug use, overdosing.
I seem to be on a music/ band themed reading spree. The main character Jackie used to be in a rock/goth band Broken Scars. Her drummer Ray died from drugs. She auditions for an all girl band named the Neon Fishnets. She's been in a Twitter feud with their keyboardist Ivy, who coincidentally didn't know about her initial audition. This book deals with drugs/addiction. Ironically the main guitarist of the new band Reyna also has substance abuse issues. (Could have picked another name, not so related, alas pet peeve) Their is a little too much instalove for my tastes, but for others it may not be an issue.
This was my first Scarlett Knight book and I'm so thrilled I stumbled upon it!! Jackie and Ivy apparently got off on the wrong foot several years prior to Jackie auditioning for The Neon Fightnets, for who Ivy plays keyboards. A Twitter feud that Ivy just couldn't let go of as witnessed by the flying stiletto during Jackie's audition. Fortunately, Ivy approved Jackie's addition to the band. What followed was a steamy foray into the should we/shouldn't we game along with the laying of the groundwork for the next two books in this series. I really enjoy the story a lot, but I felt like the reader needed more conversations between Ivy and Jackie. The book was told in Jackie's POV so we learned a lot about her, but we didn't learn much about Ivy, besides her devotion to her adorable niece Bethany. Can't wait to read book 2!
Yea,yea, not a Nobel Prize Winner, but yea, I really enjoyed this. Surprisingly free flowing given the angst of the content, but never felt unsafe which says a lot about the skill of Scarlett Knight's writing.
I had been naturally drawn in when I first laid eyes on the cover. I'm human, I saw flesh and I looked. Guess what, though? The cover made me want to know more. After reading the synopsis, I thought, why not? It wasn't the type of story I'd normally go for, but something about the way the author wrote the blurb tickled my curiosity. I'm happy to say that this was a kickass read.
I adored Jackie, the bass player trying to fit in with a brand new band after her old band had broken up. Unfortunately, her old band broke up for a heartbreaking reason, a reason that hit close to home for me; addiction. I shed a tear during the story, but I also laughed, too. There were times I felt like I was right there in the recording studio or on stage with the Fishnets. So much energy, excitement, adrenaline, and colours! Jackie and Ivy's budding relationship was awesome. Ya know why? Because it was grown up. There was no second guessing or soul searching before they jumped into bed together. They knew what they wanted and went for it! A breath of fresh air.
Love This Fire A member of Jackie’s band died and they broke up. Now she is auditioning for a place in a new band. The problem is her Twitter feud with the keyboardist, Ivy. Jackie wants to put it in the past but Ivy isn’t so sure of Jackie’s real intentions…. The only thing she is sure of is the heat coming off the two of them. This is one of those go to feel good books. It is a fast read for a full length book and absolutely perfect for a lazy afternoon. I loved all the women in the Neon Fishnets. They all have their strengths and weaknesses but they are all dynamic and fascinating. I loved how they relate to each other and the love they all share. I couldn’t help but feel so content and peaceful when all was said and done but the best part? Even though the story ended in a great place, there is enough story left that should there be a part two it will be a wonderful addition!!
Ivy and Jackie start as enemies from a Twitter feud that got way out of hand. As Jackie is about to audition the the same band Ivy is on she wants to put the past behind her. Their friction is actually very sexy and they seem drawn to each other. Other band members are also going through some issues that will effect them all. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one.
Another gem from my TBR shelves! I really enjoyed this book! Jackie is a bass player who came from another band thats drummer died, and the band broke up. Shes auditioning for the Neon Fishnets, and all girl band. Only problem is she was in a Twitter feud with Ivy, the keyboardist. This is a wonderful enemies to lovers,HOT love story. 5 stars!
I'm glad this is the first in a series, because I really need to read more about these characters.
This book's main characters are Jackie, who unwittingly started a twitter feud with Ivy, a member of another band. When Jackie's band breaks up, she finds herself auditioning for Ivy's band. The way they work through their differences is, mostly, amazing.
I don't think this is a spoiler to say that I hope the next book is about C.J. and Trish. (We find out very early in this book that C.J, crushes on Trish.). And I need to know how things turn out for the other band member, too.
I read it in one sitting. At times I felt as if I were part of the band and at other times, it was as if I were a groupie, totally fangirling. I really wish The Neon Fishnets were a real band!
As usual, Scarlett Knight's writing is fantastic and it shows in the story, which flows seamlessly. The characters are well developed. I loved Jackie and Ivy and their connection. The vibe between them basically jumped out of the page.
I can't wait for the second book in the series! I know I won't be disappointed.
Jackie was looking for another band after one of her band members died and the band broke up. Jackie audition has a bass player and a new band and was hired. After she was in the band she didn’t realize that IV her enemy was also in the band. The plot in the story is good The characters are great and most her a good story and a good moral about overdosing on drugs and the problems it can cause. I recommend this book for all her like lesbian romance and music
I really, really liked this book. It was a great story, it was heartwarming and sexy. I loved the relationships, most especially Jackie and Ivy , of course. Awesome read!
I enjoyed reading this book by Scarlett Knight. Content of story about musicians and one band member developing a drug habit, unfortunately true to real life. Cute romance and everything turns out okay. Keep your imagination flowing!
This is my first encounter with this author. It was a quick read. I think the story concept is really good. I would have liked to have seen a little more relationship development and world building but overall enjoyed the story.
Slow burn enemies-to-lovers with a background of an all-women rock band adjusting to a new member? Yes, please! The details of making a record didn't feel authentic to me – all tracking, no mixing – but the jostling of egos with the addition of a new creative personality did, as did concerns about the line between partying and having a problem. Maybe worth noting that this is structured as a lot of short chapters, and I found the "one more chapter... ok, two... ok one more" effect powerful. Definitely onboard for the rest of this series.
This book was FANTASTIC!!!! Scarlett Knight gives all of her characters so much heart and personality that you forget that they're fiction. This is a great first book in the trilogy and I can't wait to see what's next for the characters in this world.
So this is kind of an enemies to lovers, but I happens fairly fast so I guess there's a bit of whirlwind romance in there. A good read and the characters are pretty fun.
This story is everything we imagine when we dream about finding that person: attraction, connection, emotion, passion, satisfaction… perfection!! ...& with music & rockstar ls! Awesome!!
Enemies to lovers. What a cool concept. I did not think Ivy would break. I guess the crush on Jackie was too strong. I enjoyed the book. Thanks for writing.
A rock star-themed lesfic that kept me interested the whole way through.
I loved the main character, Jackie, a lot. Except for a few moments, she is pretty chill and easy to relate to. Ivy, the woman she lusts after, she was okay to me, but that is mostly because much of the tension of the book is Ivy misreading situations that Jackie is put into, such as other women she is alone in a room with, and not even trying to find out what is really going on. Instead Ivy opts to act pissed and leave. Then again, if Ivy would have had a discussion for once, the book would have been about a quarter the length it is. Still, that frustration never made me want to put the book down, as it was clear that in the next chapter or three they would make up for a day and repeat.
The reveal of the relationship to the band, I absolutely should have seen it coming and yet I did not and absolutely loved it. Short and simple, but totally brought everything around to the start.
There was one character introduced at almost the beginning, someone who was trying out for the band, I was waiting and waiting for them to return since so much time was spent on them, but they never do. Maybe in sequels? It felt weird to see nor hear nothing from her again.
Oh, and the passionate moments between Jackie and Ivy? Unf. Aces. Yes. Very good.
Anyway, my 3-stars mean exactly that and not 1-stars. I enjoyed my time with "Playing with Fire" a lot, and if you're looking for a little lesfic read where you know exactly what you're getting but crave it so much, I totally recommend it.
Well written and enough twists and turns to make it interesting but too much to make it chaotic. When do you know you love someone? What are you willing to risk to be together and not care what others think? It was something when you put I'd down you wonder what's going to happen next.
